After reading several reviews on Yelp, we decided to give Rokko a try. The owner was very…read morefriendly. She speaks fluent English, Japanese, and Italian. We went on a Monday evening. It was one of the rare sushi places that was actually open on Monday. It was also quite warm in the restaurant. Admittedly, we were in Rome during a major heat wave, so maybe their A/C just didn't have the power to keep up. As far as the rolls go, they had the typical sushi rolls that you find in most sushi restaurants. It tasted fresh and was pretty good basic sushi rolls. Maybe it's me or maybe my sushi has become to "americanized", but I like places that have specialty rolls. I like the ones that have spicy mayo sauce, or smelt roe, or avocado slices on top, or tuna/salmon on top, or spicy pepper, or etc etc etc. In my opinion, Rokko was simply basic sushi. Don't get me wrong. It was good, just basic. Bottom line - Open on Monday (at least during the summer months). Good but basic sushi. I wanted more variety in the rolls. Personally, if I want sushi the next time I'm in Rome, I may try a different place first simply to see if they have better variety. If you do decide to try Rokko, I think you'll be treated well by the staff. They're friendly. Bon appétit.

I liked it enough that when I visited again a few weeks ago, I went back and had yet again another pleasant experience. The service was great: attentive, very friendly and helpful, and made me feel comfortable. The food is great too, probably some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. And the prices are very reasonable in my opinion, compared to what you'd be paying everywhere else in Rome (for the most part). Also the ambiance I'm a fan of: the décor and design in there is so nice! This place is a high-recommend from me - if you want to try some really great Japanese food in Rome, Taki is the best place to go.

None of the staff spoke English but thankfully there was a QR code to pull the menu up in English. They describe themselves as Nippo-Brazilian sushi cuisine. I don't really know what that means but the Gramada was certainly not like anything I had ever eaten. It had a great flavor but a very unusual texture.

We came right when they opened for dinner service, we were asked if we had dinner reservations, which we did not, but were still seated (was a little odd since by the time we left the restaurant was still mostly empty). Food was good and came out quick, although we did get the more tamer options with less of the Brazilian flair. Overall, was a good alternative to the normal Italian cuisine.

The experience overall was only ok unfortunately. Felt that all the staffs were really preoccupied with their phones, food came out really fast (maybe too fast?), we noticed all the food orders were made and it took a while to be delivered to the other guests, the lack of energy in the dining room from the staff was very not very "Japanese".

I have been to this amazing sushi restaurant quite a few times this summer in Rome. The best thing…read moreis that each time it simply kept getting better and better! You have various options here to eat, there is the Kaiten (conveyor belt with many different plates ready to eat) this is the best option especially if you want a quick meal or have a movie to go watch at the nearby cinema. Otherwise there are regular tables, or the tatami, a special japanese room where you eat like in Japan and is ideal for private parties. Than there are about 12 seats at the teppanyaki, which is the japanese style grill where an extremely knowledgeable and experienced chef cooks extremely good dishes but is entertaining at the same time! This is one of the best I've ever been to and I've traveled pretty much all around the world. The sushi has an "italian" approach to it, since all the ingredients and food is locally grown therefore it is always fresh and delicious. They also make extremely good "american style" rolls that are very good too! A must try for sushi & sashimi lovers are the Gunkan, a rice ball wrapped in fish (usually tuna or salmon) or avocado with a fish tartar on top, that if asked will be mixed with flying fish eggs and spicy mayo! Delicious! A must try when in downtown Rome, 10 min walk from the Vatican!

So after almost 2 weeks in Europe and eating a lot of carbs and meat, I was really missing clean…read morefood and asian food. As crazy as it sounds, for our last meal in Europe, and in Rome for that fact, we opted for sushi. We chose Daruma as it was 5 minutes from our B&B and throughout the past few days we walked by it a number of times, and each time it was busy. So why not. Out of pure chance and coincidence we dined on a Sunday night, which is a special night. Every Sunday at the Kaiten (revolving sushi belt) the dishes are yellow and each dish is 3 euros. Which is a STEAL if you look at the rest of the menu. Yes the sushi on the Kaiten is limited, because they can't really afford to put the good stuff out. Still it wasn't bad. We did notice that a lot of the plates were salmon. Either the Italians LOVE their salmon (which appeared to be the case to the diners across from us) or salmon is really cheap. Once the Kaiten starts, all the dishes load up and the belt is full and at max capacity. I would say out of 10 dishes, 8 were salmon. If you really liked salmon, I recommend the one in sashimi. It was more fresh and had that fattiness that sashimi salmon has. I would stay away from anything that has avocado. As a California native who has definitely eaten my weight in all forms of sushi, the avocado SUCKED. It wasn't ripe and it was missing the creaminess that is avocado. I would also wait from ordering edamame which on the menu is 4 euros, when you can only pay 3 euros. Overall, it wasn't the greatest sushi place I've ever been to. For Rome standards it probably was better than mediocre? I'm not sure how european's do asian food...It's definitely not authentic here. If you are a true sushi lover like me, and you are an adventurous eater, this is not the place for you. However, if you're craving and want something clean apart from pasta, come on a Sunday night, your wallet will thank you. PS: again, no tap water. Only still or sparkling, and of course you had to pay for it.
