Just wanted to offer another happy review for Ismael and Capital City Paint. We asked Ismael to…read morepaint our house after getting three estimates. His and another company's estimate were almost exactly the same, but we really liked our interaction with Ismael. He was extremely helpful, answered lots of questions, and was quick to respond. I especially appreciated his effort to help us find the right paint color (another guy told us that wasn't part of his job description). We told him the tone we were seeking, but that we were having trouble finding the color. He went to the paint store, found a couple of tones, painted the samples on our wall, and gave us a little time to make our choice. The paint we chose was from a back catalog of colors - where we would not have thought to look. We love it and are super happy that Ismael helped us in the process. Apart from our choosing the color, he also made the process super fast from our first inquiry to final result (I think it was about a week from estimate to final result). He came and did a final check and immediately arranged to fix a couple of tiny things that seemed a bit undone. I would definitely hire Ismael again for this kind of work. As a sidenote, we also reached out to Ismael for some renovation work in our laundry room - restoring some dry wall and creating some shelving. We found his bid to be quite a bit more expensive, so we opted to go with another contractor. Perhaps the exterior work is more competitively priced? Not sure, but overall, we were very happy with Ismael's help getting our house painted. It's been a couple of months, and I still love looking at the paint color. I know a couple of neighbors reached out to him, too, when they saw the work the guys at Capital City Paint were doing on our house. That's nice for him and nice for us, too. Thanks, Ismael.

I hired Capital City to paint the kitchen cabinets and interior doors in my new home. Based on the…read moremultiple 5 star reviews on Yelp, I was expecting really great work! Sadly, what was supposed to be a 3 day painting job turned into a month long ordeal that has left my cabinets and interior doors damaged beyond repair and me heartbroken and in a state of shock. I had brand new solid wood unfinished cabinets in my small kitchen and all new interior doors that I wanted painted. Ishmael was responsive, friendly, and quite convincing that he would be in and out in 3 days. After about 10 days of having his crew in my home, they finally finished. Upon inspection, the paint job was sub-par (lumps, smudges, clouding, etc) and the paint scraped through with a fingernail even after 3 weeks of drying. Ishmael said it was an issue with bad paint and a malfunctioning sprayer and kindly said he would fix the problem. His crew then spent another 10ish days sanding and re-priming everything and then repainted the cabinets... but in the wrong color! (grey instead of blue and Benjamin Moore admitted to making a mixing mistake). After several discussions with Ishmael and testing multiple paint samples he brought over, I finally resorted to buying the paint myself because his vendors were unable to do an accurate color match to Behr's 'Night Shade'. Just as I thought we were back on track and finishing up, his new crew pointed out to me extensive damage to all of my interior doors and cabinets from improper sanding by the first crew. I sent photos to Ishmael but did not receive a response. Around 1 pm that day, the crew abruptly packed up and left - doors partial painted, left leaning up against the walls, overspray all over the kitchen, damage to the dishwasher and microwave, dust everywhere, my ladder was taken, trash and paint stains (on walls, carpet, garage, hardwood, concrete) were left behind, etc. When I asked if the guys were coming back, Ishmael did not return my calls or text messages. To be fair, Ishmael and his crew were nice, and I feel like he did originally try to fix the issues; maybe they were just beyond repair? All I know is we were VERY patient and understanding, and we gave Ishmael and his crew every opportunity to make it right. But now I am left with damaged doors and cabinets, and a very sad heart. Ishmael just sent me a text saying they are not coming back to finish the job. I'm so heartbroken that my new house is ruined and a 'professional' business would just walk out on a job like this with out finishing. I do, however, want Ishmael's crew to know that I appreciate all of their help and honesty in pointing out the issues to me, and that I know none of this was their fault. Just please, please, beware of blindly trusting Yelp reviews. I learned my lesson the hard way and would hate to see anyone else's property damaged! Feel free to message me if you'd like more photos of the damage to my doors and cabinets and the way the house was left (I posted 3 here on yelp), or copies of any of my communications with Ishmael.

I had 7 bids for this project. Johnny came in at the least expensive only after I told him I had others bidding. I specifically requested Sherwin Williams Duration. He showed up with maybe 3 gallons of SW. The remainder, he used Behr Pro. At the end, I asked how many gallons did you use, and he said 7. So four gallons was not duration. The job from the other pros called for 14 gallons. I specifically requested that my caulk around our windows and soffit be removed as it's 18 years old. Johnny has his guy use SW caulk over the existing caulk. I was not happy with that at all. I also paid for caulking between the soffit and masonry. I went over the details not just during the initial bid, but before the job began. I had it also in a text to him. But guess what, after I requested the duration and remove caulk he added an extra $200, which I agreed to. Only using 3 gallons and removing the caulk only from my front porch was unacceptable. He also left two 2x12s in my yard, thinking I wouldn't notice. I had him come back and clean up, and also repaint soffit. The paint around gutters, and fascia look great. The shed trim was not completed it was all painted the same color. The caulk still has gaps at soffit and masonry. The paint at soffit is still spotty near the inner edges (can clearly see about an inch missed all along), and will end up having to do it myself. His worker did much of the work, as he had family in town. I believe when Johnny does the work, it comes out good. He repaired some fascia that was tore up by squirrels as well as back door using bondo. And did a good job repainting back step railing. I'd update my review if the soffit, caulking around missed gaps and shed trim completed.

The color is beautiful and he took pains to make sure none of the old color showed through even in tricky spots. And then...he made me a deal my husband and I could not refuse.... our red metal roof, which we tried to work with, just didn't look as modern as the rest of the exterior. Sadly, my experience with Southern Painting has left me sitting in a house with mismatched paint,…read morepoor patching and $5000 less in the bank. My mother and I contracted with Zachary from Southern Painting to paint my 2200 SF home. Looking to save a little money, as I'm a single, working mom, I elected to have only the walls painted, leaving my existing white ceilings and trim untouched. Naturally, color matching and expertise around that issue was critical. I wanted to transition my home from a tan wall/white ceiling & trim to a clean white all-over look. Zachary recommended a white (Snowbound) that he claimed would easily work in all areas and would not cause a visual disconnect between my ceilings, doors and trim. My mother and I trusted his very clear statement that the color would work. Was a test wall painted? Yes. Did we approve the color based on that? Yes. Unfortunately, the test area was not a good representation of how the would look applied across the house, against doors and in less naturally-lit spaces. The recommended color is blue in undertone while the rest of my painted surfaces are yellow in undertone. If you understand undertones, which I now do, this is a big problem. Caveat emptor always applies and I know this as a consumer, but when you hire an "expert" painting service, ask the right questions about color matching and pay thousands of dollars, one does not expect to have the simplest issue of blue or yellow undertone in a white application be a problem. When my displeasure and concern over the very obvious color incongruence was shared with Zach, his offer to repaint my home at the same price was hardly a satisfactory response. I simply could not afford that option. I see now that a correct white color choice, for someone unable to paint ceiling and trim, would be to match the ceiling color (yellow undertone) and apply that across the walls. It would have created the desired white effect without the terrible color mismatch. I've learned this the hard way after one experience. I would have expected my expert painter, with years of experience, to be able to identify such a simple solution. To the contrary, I was assured multiple times there would be no issue or visual disconnect between my existing white and the white recommended. To add insult to injury, the patches made to my walls where photos hung prior to painting, are terrible. Overall a very poor experience and I cannot recommend Southern Painting or Zach based on the outcome of my home. It's taken me this long to write the review because I've been so depressed about the overall look of my home. I hope this review can spare someone else an outcome they just have to live with and that, if you do choose to go with Zach and Southern Painting, I would strongly recommend the additional expense of a decorator that understands color matching.
