They were super knowledgeable about the gear and even though it was a slight cosmetic difference I wanted on the clubs, they made it happen and had the new clubs arrive in days. Monrovia Branch Review: Value and selection are decent, and the 90-day satisfaction guarantee is a good policy. But none of that matters if customer service is this inconsistent. In just three days, I had two completely different experiences. The first visit was fine--an employee actually noticed I needed help, gave me useful advice on grips, and quickly regripped two clubs. That's how it should be. The second visit, however, was unacceptable. I stood there with eight clubs in hand, clearly waiting, while employees spent more time chatting than helping. Not one person acknowledged me. When I finally asked directly, the employee dismissed me, prioritized a customer who had just walked in, and told me grip selection was simply "personal preference--like buying shoes." Even after I pressed for advice, he refused to engage and continued with the other customer. If this store can't be bothered to help customers who are ready to spend money on regripping, what's the point of going there? I don't expect to beg for service. A golf shop should be eager to offer guidance, not make customers feel like an inconvenience. read more

When I was growing up there was a store at the West Covina Mall called Sport Authority that sold sporting goods. And, in the store, there was an actual half court where they had different basketballs you could try out and shoot hoops on. Now, I never actually bought a basketball there, but I do have memories of going in there to throw up some shots as indoor courts were hard to come by and I needed something to do while my mom was shopping. Fast forward twenty some years and the store is gone and so have my knees, so now I have switched to golf and the perfect place to keep those glory days of free shots alive, Roger Dunn. I go about once a month for about 15 minutes to hit some drives everytime I come up with a new idea that will cure my swing and increase my club head speed which is paltry at best. The funny thing is at this point everyone in the store knows I'm there just to hack away so they let me be. It's a great way to test out new equipment and realize that the problem with my swing has never and will never be an equipment problem, it is a ME problem. Having said that, I have picked up my current driver, a hybrid, a putter, and got my wedge fixed here before. This grand total came out to 35 for the driver, 30 for the hybrid, and 30 for the putter and 15 for the wedge fix, and they are still the clubs I use in my bag. Long story short, if you search there are still good deals to be had! read more

So this review comes 4 years after my previous one, and this is one of those rare situations in life that you can happily say that nothing's changed. I still go to Roger Dunn way too much. Their inventory selection is still great, almost too great, because every time I drop in for a re-grip or something simple, I somehow end up with a club in my hand, swinging it in their simulator. There are always people asking me if I need help with clubs, but never any overt pressure to buy the clubs, which is probably the biggest difference between Roger Dunn and other big box stores; they want you to be happy with the club that you buy, rather than have buyer's remorse after you leave the store. The manager, Eddie, Chris, in club repair, and all the guys in clubs, easily make the Roger Dunn experience amazing. They all have a wealth of knowledge regarding the different clubs and are great to bounce my multitude of ideas regarding how I should build my bag. Like I said in my previous review, if you haven't been to a Roger Dunn, hurry up and go, because after you experience Roger Dunn, you'll never want to go to another big box store again. read more

Came for driver fitting, after reserving a time. Drove about 40 minutes out. At the end of the day, i guess if you arent buying theyll treat you like youre not there. When i showed up the middle aged guy with glasses had me warm up while he got me started on a bay. Before we got started he asked me if i was planning on buying that very day, to which i responded that im not sure if im pulling the trigger, until i really understood what it is i need. After having said that he handed me a few clubs and proceeded to walk off and occasionally stopped by to check in. By the end of the session i had to pry all the answers out of him. What shaft do u think i need, what loft, what grip, etc. all met with one worded answers. I thought yall were the professionals, recommend something for goodness sakes! I had a way better experience at another store when i got my irons. At the end of it, there was no interaction, no thank yous exchanged, but instead he just walked off and continued helping other guests. Terrible experience. If you arent going in without being dead set on buying i guess you arent welcome! read more

I went to the Roger Dunn in Monrovia for the Labor Day trade-in promotion and had one of the worst retail experiences ever. When I asked what my total would be after trading in my driver, the associate told me, "If you have to ask, then you can't afford it." I was shocked and offended, especially since I've spent thousands of dollars at Roger Dunn over the years. Thankfully, another employee overheard and helped me finish the purchase, but the damage was done. Completely unacceptable--will not return to this location. read more

Been to multiple Roger Dunns and this one is no different. Staff is grumpy, rude, and flat-out unwelcoming. The moment you walk in, you feel like you're inconveniencing them just by existing. A whole bunch of side-eye and sass. And God forbid you ask a question. They'll sigh and look at you like you interrupted their nap. I get it though - commission structure in retail is tough. I been there. They're dealing with a ton of people who waste their time hitting a million balls and just walking out. But they're not doing the business a favor treating everyone as a waste of time. Well, I hate giving bad review but RD Monrovia club repair department need lots of help. I worked down in OC and close to the Santa Ana superstore, thats where I usually go to. I was in the Monrovia area so stopped by this RD to have my Aerojet driver reshafted. One month later, on the first tee, my driver head went flying off. When I look at the shaft, there was barely any epoxy and worst was it was never prep (not sanded). I thought that would be step one in re shafting. So they offered to fix the issue, but I'm not having them touch my club anymore. When the club head flew off, it hit the cart path and Knick a few spot. They did refund the labor but I was really disappointed that they failed to do the simplest thing. . . read more

This Roger Dunn location has been my go to place for the last 2 years and they've been nothing but helpful! The latest is a full iron service. Shout out to Nick! He's so knowledgeable and just a total golf nerd in the most positive way. I brought in a set of P7mb to be reshafted, regripped, new ferrules, and new swing weight (D4). Picked them up today and they're perfection! I was also able to try them out for free using their launch monitor. Again shout out to Nick! I come here often as it's the only big golf store around here but man, I always leave with a bad taste. For some reason the older gentlemen that work here absolutely love to make you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I've had a guy blatantly complain about me to his other coworker because I mentioned 6pm was early to be closing. Another time I was looking at bags and one of the old farts said "yea they'll sometimes mark the stuff and and complain and try to get a discount at the counter" mind you I was the only person in there at the time. Also don't bring any relatives that look like they don't golf because they'll make them feel stupid or like they don't belong in the store some reason. Other than that the young guy with glasses that work there are pretty cool and treat you like a normal person, so try to get help from one of those guys if you do end up at the store somehow! read more

Today I visited Roger Dunn in Monrovia to get my driver and 3 wood re-gripped. I was told it would be about 5-10 minutes. As I waited for my clubs I walked around and then decided to test some putters. There was a small cardboard box sitting in the middle of the putting mat. The area was not sectioned off so I did not think moving the box one foot to the right was a big deal. Again, I was just going to putt while I waited for my clubs. After a few minutes I walked up to the counter where my clubs were waiting for me. The gentleman told me they were ready and I could take them to the front counter to pay. As I approached the front counter an employee by the name of Christian yells from across the store asking if I was going to put the box back. I explained that the box was there already. I was confused, so I followed him back to the putting green where he moved the box one foot back to its original position. I'm sure the box was there for a good reason, but maybe someone should place a DO NOT MOVE sign or section the area off. I did not appreciate being yelled at by an employee. I really liked this store and have purchased many items. But after this experience, I will be taking my business up the street to Golf Galaxy. read more

I rarely write reviews and usually don't complain about certain things much. This is more about the club repair service department of this store. I just got a reshaft for a fairway adapter and a regrip for a hybrid. Dropped it off Friday picked it up Tuesday. They asked me if I wanted my shaft aligned logo side down. And I said yes that is how I prefer it. Well I got home cut the zip tie holding the shaft and club together and the shaft is definitely misaligned. Then I look at the hybrid grip and its unaligned too. (It was hard to tell at the store with the clubs and shaft taped and ziptied together.) The logo on hybrid grip is clearly off to the right. And the logo on the back off the fairway shaft is clearly off to the left. Roger dunn has always been a great place to get deals and to shop. But if you want custom work done beyond a regrip that you can double check yourself on the spot I would go else were. Clearly the attention to detail is a bit lacking. read more

When i dropped them off i noticed they had a ton of clubs to work on so i figured two days would be about right, well, that same afternoon Nick called me and told me they would be ready before end of day. This is an update to my updated review. Less than 24 hours after I posted my "less than stellar" updated review two weeks ago, I received a call from Darren, the store manager. He wanted to inquire about what happened and apologized profusely in regards to the bad experience at the register. He was incredibly professional and told me that the next time I came by the store to ask for him. Well, today I came into the store to return a utility iron and spoke with Darren. I needed advice on getting some new wedges and the Callaway website is back ordered. He walked me through what he uses, what we thought would be good for me and I ordered an additional 3 wedges through them (Mack Daddys Jaws 52, 56 and 60). Since they are in such high demand he was going to have to track them all down, but would most likely have them by next week! All around an incredible customer service experience. While I was there waiting Nick came and checked on me, asked me about my driver that I had exchanged a couple weeks back. This store will have me as a lifelong customer and I'm really thankful for the great team they have there. read more

I am a new golfer and was a bit intimidated by the prices and specifications of getting a set of golf clubs. I came into this shop not really expecting much and started to just look around. I have been borrowing my friends clubs for a while but they are around the height of 5'9 while I am 6'2. However this one guy came up to me, and was able to fit my clubs find something in my price range while still being a complete set. I never got his name but this guy was an absolute legend. Came in after grips on the go were not comfortable puling graphite shafts. I dropped off the clubs and gave them my specs. They were more than able to accommodate except adding .5" extension, which was fine. They helped with getting it shipped back to me when they are done. I am pleased with the service and price. The tech was knowledgeable and experienced compared to grips on the go. The store is like a candy store for kids. They have taylormade, Titleist fittings, 3 self demo lanes, a large putting demo area. They do trade in for store credit. The prices are retail compared to lower prices online.
