Cute little neighborhood parilla. Food was super solid with good flavor and taste. Well seasoned. I liked it a lot! Good hygiene protocol and great service.

Love restaurant ! First day in Argentina, Buenos Aires. Tried this place just 2 blocks from our hotel. Very friendly & accommodating staff.Tried & loved their 2 verities of steak on the menu. Kids enjoyed the Pasta & steak with fries. All paired with Melbec of course

Yummy food, great service and a perfect location for us that just makes us feel we were visiting a neighbourhood restaurant around the corner in any part of an Italian neighbourhood. The bodega too looked well stocked, and the Argentinian steaks were perfectly done! They altered to all age groups and people. There seemed to be people in suits unwinding after a long day at work, families with their parents, and students in Seattle grunge clothing that looked like they were grabbing a meal after band practice, and then there was us, the rather still lost "extrajeneros " looking for a good meal recommended in our guide books. It wasn't 5 star, but if I were a local, this would be my local restaurant where I know I would always find something I like, because they sure had a very vast menu! The trout was excellente! :-))

First night in Argentina, I didn't have reservation and wanted something simple but good. I got there around 7:45 pm and it was less than half full. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was packed and by the time I left there was a line. I think I was the only tourist. Most were locals and seem to know the waiter or had been there before. I had a steak which was good but less than the hyped up Argentina beef reputation. Flan was homemade. I'm used to smooth flan but I really liked it. Two glasses of different Malbec wine and they were both drinkable. Waiter didn't speak English but was kind and helpful. So two glasses of wine, sirloin steak, side of potato, and flan, including tip for $22.78 US dollar. I can get used to the cost of living here.

Bustling place on a fri night. Was able to get a table for one at 7:30p but most tables were reserved and occupied by locals. Helpful, attentive service - didn't try to convince me to order too much - and down to earth vibe. Went for very simple - steak and greens. Tasty fillet mignon, medium on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside. Arugula salad included some slightly wilted leaves, but tasted fresh and was a generous amount of leafy greens.

Its architecture is actually very interesting, because these casa de comidas no lomger exist in Spain, so this like the Carmenère of the restaurant type. Its architecture and design is both super nice and dusty. The cafe part being the most refined of the establishment. The food is tasty and homey. Don't expect to be surprised. Not surprising is actually the goal here. The service is respectful and professional. A good experience everyone should have at one point.

Our third wasn't having either of these oddities, and opted for a plate of quite good smoked salmon with capers (280 pesos). Not so traditional, but tasty nonetheless. I was all set to order the place's famed rabo de toro, braised oxtail, which the waiter pimped for enthusiastically as the best dish on the menu, until I spotted that they had a special of the day of venison ravioli. He opined that they, too, were excellent, and in fact so good that the waiters and cooks were back in the kitchen sneaking extras whenever people ordered them. And, he was right - huge, plump ravioli filled with well spiced venison, in a creamy venison and mushroom reduction sauce. (270 pesos) Our salmon eater decided to stay with salmon, and went with nearly as good as the above, salmon filled squid-ink ravioli with fresh prawns, in a cream sauce. (390 pesos) And, our third, decided on the lechon, suckling pig, which was falling apart tender, and absolutely delicious. It could have used something to go with it - but this is old school, you have to order your side dishes separately. (320 pesos) It's not cheap, though not ridiculous - still, maybe a touch more than I'd expect in an old school bodegón, even with today's prices. Add in a cubierto charge (35 pesos each), a single shared bottle of water, a bottle of wine, and three coffees, and we racked up a 2285 peso tab, plus tip (we rounded to 850 pesos apiece), or about $66, $22 each, for 3 people. They do take credit and debit cards, a nice plus for this type of place, where many of them don't. And I do want to go back and try the oxtail!

The servings are really abundant and you will most likely get full and happy. This is one of this places where you go to submerge yourself on the local experience, it is a place to become a local for a moment, don't expect refined manners or even smiles from the people working there, you are going to be very well fed, perhaps see a football game and get a drink and that is it. It was simple but elegant and the portions were huge. Both tasted great. We went back a few nights later to the same street side table and waiter and had a full three course meal. We started with calamari and provoleta. The calamari is a staple there and the portion is huge. It is lightly breaded, fried and tasty. The provoleta was fine. This time for my main course the waiter suggested grilled fish so I tried it. It was not especially great since they bread it like it was going to be fried. It was flavorful regardless. My wife ordered the bife de lomo again and again was very happy. For dessert I had a fantastic piece of helado that seemed to be cut from a loaf. I don't remember the name but it was fantastic. My wife ordered the flan and was satisfied. I finished with a limonchella. Gijon is a great neighborhood restaurant with prices to match. It's worth a try.
