Stopped by Rodi near Recoleta Cemetery for a quick lunch. The place was busy with locals, which seemed promising. We ordered a few starters, including empanadas, a stuffed tomato, and deep-fried mozzarella sticks. The empanadas were decent but nothing memorable. The stuffed tomato was very basic, and the mozzarella sticks were huge but had an odd flavor to the point that none of us ate them. The plates were cleared without any comment, which felt a bit inattentive. The reviews were not wrong! Great experience all around in a quaint and reasonably priced neighborhood restaurant. We shared the lomo (sliced filet mignon) with marsala wine sauce that came with noisette potatoes and we added a side of creamed spinach. The beef was good quality and tender and was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. The sauce was light and flavorful. The potatoes were simple but some of the best we had in Argentina. The quantity was easily enough for two to share. Solid service too. Highly recommended. read more

Once again, I guess an American in Argentina doesn't get the same service as locals. I was seated, took over half an hour to get my food in a very empty restaurant and then no one ever came back. I don't understand. I watch everybody else get served and get attention and I still sit here an hour later. Finally, someone came in another half an hour later to clear my table. Food was good, the service questionable. My server never returned. But I have to add when I came here with my Argentinian guide, the service was awesome. read more

Yummy food, great service and a perfect location for us that just makes us feel we were visiting a neighbourhood restaurant around the corner in any part of an Italian neighbourhood. The bodega too looked well stocked, and the Argentinian steaks were perfectly done! They altered to all age groups and people. There seemed to be people in suits unwinding after a long day at work, families with their parents, and students in Seattle grunge clothing that looked like they were grabbing a meal after band practice, and then there was us, the rather still lost "extrajeneros " looking for a good meal recommended in our guide books. It wasn't 5 star, but if I were a local, this would be my local restaurant where I know I would always find something I like, because they sure had a very vast menu! First night in Argentina, I didn't have reservation and wanted something simple but good. I got there around 7:45 pm and it was less than half full. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was packed and by the time I left there was a line. I think I was the only tourist. Most were locals and seem to know the waiter or had been there before. I had a steak which was good but less than the hyped up Argentina beef reputation. Flan was homemade. I'm used to smooth flan but I really liked it. Two glasses of different Malbec wine and they were both drinkable. Waiter didn't speak English but was kind and helpful. So two glasses of wine, sirloin steak, side of potato, and flan, including tip for $22.78 US dollar. I can get used to the cost of living here. read more

Bustling place on a fri night. Was able to get a table for one at 7:30p but most tables were reserved and occupied by locals. Helpful, attentive service - didn't try to convince me to order too much - and down to earth vibe. Went for very simple - steak and greens. Tasty fillet mignon, medium on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside. Arugula salad included some slightly wilted leaves, but tasted fresh and was a generous amount of leafy greens. read more

Came here with a good friend from Germany on my last night in BsAs. We wanted to have a traditional Argentinean steak dinner, at least I did. So I ordered the bite de chorizo with mashed potatoes and my friend got some combination dish but when it came out it was much different from what she thought she ordered. The waiter was nice and attentive for the most part. The location is nearby the cemetery in Recoleta and our favorite gelateria, Rapanui. Biggest pet peeve with this place was the bill. Warning to foreigners, ask the waiter before reviewing the menu NEVER to bring bread on the table. This place scams you rotten. We know that many places in BsAs will charge you for the bread if you touchdowns it so when he placed the bread basket on the table we didn't touch it. Later we realized they charged us for the bread and when we questioned it, the waiter salid it wouldn't matter its a regular charge. Another issue with the bill with some other unknown charges and charges for things like mashed potatoes since what I ordered was simply steak with nothing else. What?! Overall the food was I've definitely had better experiences elsewhere in BsAs so this is definitely a place you can skip. read more

This is my favorite restaurant. Ever. I like everything on the menu. I love the waiters. I love the ambiance. This is the typical neighborhood joint. If you go during lunch - check out the deals on the little piece of paper in the menu. I personally like the #7 milanesa completa- veal cutlet with a fried egg, mixed salad and French fries. Be sure to order a bottle of wine and one of their desserts. When I say everything is amazing - I mean it. The spinach crepes, the lomo, the raviolis - I'm actually drooling now. Rodi has been here since the beginning of time, everyone in Barrio Norte has eaten here. The city of Buenos Aires might possibly have been created around the Rodi Bar ;-) It's a neighborhood restaurant with something for everyone, as long as it's something Argentine (which includes plenty of Italian fare). I'm still trying to figure out what some of the reviewers think the big deal is about Rodi-Bar. I came here on the recommendation of my hotel (Sileo -- right across from the Recoleta Cemetery, and a great place to stay, FYI). I asked for something simple, not fancy, where I could have a parilla. Rodi is definitely simple in the sense that it's a nice, local restaurant and not fancy or pretentious. None of the wait staff really spoke much English, but that's ok. We made it through. But I just didn't think the food was all that amazing. The meat was fatty and chewy, with very little flavor. The potatoes needed salt. And the tomato in my salad, although perfectly colored, was super-mealy and flavorless. I saw several locals come in and out while I was there, and they all seemed to know the staff and go there often. I won't go back, not because it was awful or anything. I just think there must be better places. read more

I had one of the prix fixe steak menus at lunch, and it was perfectly cooked - tender through and through. The steak was at least as good as those at La Cabrera and only about one third of the cost. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the value is. I look forward to revisiting the next time I'm in BsAs. read more

Well worth giving a try if you're in the area and want something good but aren't in the mood for anything fancy. Lots of options on the menu to choose from. The perfect upscaled "cantina/bodegon", a truly traditional neighborhood restaurant, a menu as long as a bible, the best friendly attention, excellent prices, good quality, very traditional dishes of the Argentine cuisine with its Spanish and Italian influences. Thank you Santos for recommending it! We went many times in our last trip and a lot of times this trip. The ideal counterpart of all the high-end restaurants we also tried. Every day food for angels. Rodi is like a traditional bodegon, except the atmosphere is more like a cafeteria. That is, it's very brightly lit, with white walls and ceilings. The clientel is lamost exclusively locals, probably because tourists, particularly U.S. tourists, are repelled by the bright lighting. Once you get past the brightness and the wait (it's quite popular), you enter a hectic and boisterous room that is bustling with people and the many servers. We received good and prompt service from our waiter, who was the type who was scanning the room constantly to see if any of his customers needed attention. That is always appreciated. This combination of ambiance and service make it distinctive and memorable. Two of our group of three ordered a minestoni soup. It's nothing like the ministroni that we yankees are accustomed to in the states. For one, there is no tomato base; it's a clear broth with various vegetables that seem to have been cooked for days. The aroma is nice, but the broth has no flavor whatsoever and the veges have lost all their texture. If that's your kind of soup, you will love it. ;) I ordered a bife de chorizo (jugoso, which means medium rare) and papas fritas. The steak was over 1-1/2" thick; perfectly grilled and very, very tasty. The french fries were very good. C and J shared a ensalda completo (salad with mixed greens & tomatoes). Awful. Just a completely awful experience at this business. Rodi was busy every time I walked by. Based on how busy it was from the outside looking in, I decided to look it up and see if Yelp could confirm my temptation to try it out. To get straight to the point, I was deceived. Tomorrow, I will be eating heading to La Cholita for parilla based on my friend's recommendation so I felt that a meal consisting less of beef, but containing more greens and carbs would be appropriate. Spaghetti Bolognese and a Rodi salad was ordered along with an agua con gas and a 350ml bottle of malbec. You would think that such a simple dish as Spaghetti Bolognese would have a significant chance of being good, no? No, it sucked dirty brown asshole! Just regular meat sauce over spaghetti noodles that were like sponges. That is correct. The noodles were soggy with a puddle of liquid (most likely water) hanging out at the bottom 1.5 centimeters of my bowl. I am far from being the most refined diner, but this is the complete opposite of al dente. Perhaps it is the Argentine way, but I truly believe that damp, soft spaghetti noodles should only occur when I am the one cooking. Now on to the restaurant's namesake salad. A salad named after the restaurant itself should guarantee a good degree of respectability, right? How wrong could I be... It was just chopped chicken, lettuce, apples, onions with balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing. I should have just gone to Tea Connection for a chicken salad. In fact, I should have just gone to Tea Connection for everything, despite it being a small chain restaurant. I really could have made this one myself. The lettuce did not look fresh and vibrant, the apple pieces and onions were cut in all shapes and sizes with no regard for presentation. The chicken was plain as can be. It's just not a chicken salad for a table cloth establishment. Tea Connection baby (Uriburu and Pacheco Melo location). Now on to the service. I have to let it be known that I cannot speak Spanish. However, when I point to a wine, I expect to get that wine. My fault! Completely my fault for taking it for granted that he would get it right and I would not have to confirm whether or not I was drinking the wine I had ordered. It would have been fine and I would have accepted my mistake without much issue, but when the waiter brought the wine menu back (my request) to me to figure out why I was being charged for a different, more pricier wine; he confirmed by pointing to the wine that I had originally selected to show me that he brought the correct wine until he looked at the bottle on the table. Wrong wine! In an effort to quickly absolve himself from this mistake, he moved his finger down one line item to the wine he brought me. I did enjoy my agua con gas (carbonated mineral water) and bread & butter. I would not eat here even if they gave me 50% off. I did not leave tip. The only foolish choice for dinner I have made thus far in Buenos Aires. For a better experience, go to Los Pinos a few blocks away. read more

Close tables made the place a little loud. If you like roomy seating, this is not the place, especially given that it is usually crowded (a good sign for a restaurant.)
