We went to Arizona for our honeymoon and stopped in Barstow for the night on our way home to the SF Bay Area after a long day at the Grand Canyon. What a pleasant surprise. Banged on office door and rang bell for 15 mins and no employee came out. Apparently the graveyard clerk fell asleep. So I had to find another hotel. Our stay exceeded our expectations. The owner was very friendly and customer focused. He has two lovable dogs that greeted us when we arrived and saw us off when we left in the morning. Wow! What an extremely pleasant surprise. We came in after driving 600 miles that day and we were ready for the last leg of our 12 day trip. So, to meet such a cheerful and happy desk clerk, who fixed me up with a ground floor room before I asked! Well that's nice. The room was large and well furnished. The computer desk works well and the internet is good. The TV is in a fancy cabinet, even better than most home furniture. The bed is so comfy and soft. I like that a lot. The cooler makes it like a refridgerator and that was really welcome since we had come across the Mojave with temperatures up to 113 - OUCH. The folded towel animals are too cute. What fun, it reminded me of being on cruise ships where there was a different animal in our room every day, all from folding towels. Well enough - This is now our GO TO place in Barstow. My fiancé and I had such a lovely experience staying here. It's by far the nicest experience at a budget price, with Roger being an excellent host. I live in Big Bear and had to stay in Barstow because the roads were too icy to return home. I was on a job at a nearby military base, and had to stay the whole week. I stayed at the Rodeway Inn because I'm a member of the Choice hotels rewards program and wanted more points. This motel was really nice! Nice clean rooms, good parking, and they have breakfast every morning. The young lady that works the front desk, "Bindi" was an absolute doll! She was so nice, friendly, and courteous. She was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area for anything you could possibly want. It gets cold in the high desert during this time of year, and every day before I checked in, she actually turned the heater on in my room before I got there. Amazing service! She made sure I was comfortable and enjoyed my stay. Next time I'm in town, I'm staying here again. She made it all worth while. read more

Stayed here just for one night, in the middle of a route 66 sightseeing trip...I like the weird stuff. From the outside it looks like an average motel in a sketchy area, the town is super sad looking, reminds me of where I came from a little too much :( Inside it's obviously been renovated recently as the lobby actually looks really nice, and the rooms are nice too--I love the tiling in the bathroom and all the little towel elephants! The owners are super nice and will make waffles for you, she even made me one even though breakfast was ending in like 10 minutes and she was putting stuff away. The breakfast offerings surpass some of the more top tier (like Marriott and such) hotels I have stayed at. The price is pretty reasonable, the base rate was $52 which isn't that far off from the advertised $45 rooms elsewhere and if the internet reviews and bedbug reports are true of some of these rooms, I prefer to pay an extra $7 for better quality. If I was ever doing another overnight in Barstow, I'd stay here again! read more

On the plus side, the room was clean and had a touch of India with decorations and such, which made for an interesting environment. There was free wifi which had a reasonably responsive download rate. The down side...the A/C unit was an old one and very noisy. Had to turn it on because the room was too hot and humid. It would kick on and off during the night, waking us every time. Continental breakfast was sparse and the coffee was terrible (I dumped it after one sip). Spent the night here after the lights festival. The owner is extremely hard working and works hard to make sure his customers are happy. Stayed here on a recent Saturday night. Right on main street Barstow with restaurants around and supermarket. Minutes to Hwy 247 as we were heading to Big Bear next morning (btw 247 is a great easy drive with little traffic if you want to go Big Bear). The exterior of the hotel looks a little older, maybe it's the brown color, but interior rooms have been remodeled. Standard amenities of a Rodeway Inn, and it has a microwave, which is a plus for us. Check-in was simple. I think the friendly lady maybe the owner of the motel. Sunday morning breakfast was at 6am (as opposed to 6:30am at some other nearby motels). We went to breakfast (at the lobby) at 6am and the lady cooked us eggs however style we want (1 egg per person). Other than egg, it was continental breakfast. No meat. Overall it was fine. It was a great little motel at a very reasonable price. read more

I give this hotel four stars, because it had just what I needed for a long stay there in Barstow. I was in town and working out in the desert and I stayed here for 2 separate 10 day stints. My favorite part was that some of their rooms have kitchenettes, which include a full oven and stove (better than mine at home), sink with disposal, microwave, coffee maker, and full sized fridge. You have to bring all of your own cookware. The rooms are spacious and there are a lot of channels on the tv. Free wifi is provided, though not perfect in every room (depends on where you are with respects to their routers. Location is great, Von's is right across the street, and there is an Anytime Fitness next door that will give a week use free. There is also a laundromat very near. The family that runs this hotel is really sweet and I felt from them that they truly cared if I needed anything. Also, they cut a good deal if you're staying for an extended period of time. read more

OK, I'm a Yelp junkie so when I stopped on a road trip in Barstow and needed a room, I consulted Yelp. The Rodeway seemed to have the most positive chatter, so I thought I'd give it a try. On my way to the motel I passed 3 or 4 other clean looking places that advertised $40 rooms. When I checked in to the Rodeway it was $60. Oh well - I'm willing to swing $20 for a more positive experience. But the thing is, it's just another motel. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing unpleasant about my stay. The owner was very sweet and they had a decent free breakfast. Room was clean and comfy and simple as you would expect for a motor lodge. I'm just saying it wasn't 50% better than, say, a Motel 6 as the price would indicate. In short, I think some of the other reviewers have gone a little overboard with their praise for this place. 5 stars!?! Come on. If there is a next time in Barstow, I'll choose one of the cheaper options on the same block as the Rodeway, and I'm sure I'll be served just the same. read more

This place is great! Stayed here on our way home from Death Valley. Upon check in, they were so friendly, asked where we were coming from, and thanked us for staying with them. Room was clean and comfortable. Stayed in a non smoking King. Bathroom was clean, too. We can tell the owners have a great care and attention to the rooms. Slept great! Breakfast was wonderful! The proprietors came out, made us some delicious waffles, and made sure we had all we wanted. Coffee was good, too. I typically don't like the complementary breakfast, but it was so nice. There are waffles, cereal, bagels, cinnamon bread, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, fancy coffee, juice, pastries, on and on. It's a very very affordable and awesome hotel. If you find yourself on Route 66 which is borderline scary, pray for protection. Some of the motels out there give me the creeps. Unfortunately, Main Street, Barstow looks more like Post Apocalyptic destruction then Main Street USA; ,however, if you need a safe place to crash, definitely check out the Rodeway inn. Normally, check in's can be a pain with some unfriendly jerk at the counter, but the family that runs it are really kind and patient. As I opened the door to my room, I was immediately impressed with how clean it was. Sounds kind of weird, but the linens on the bed smelled super fresh...kind of important to me. The bathroom looked modern and well maintained, not like a crime scene or something off the set of Alfred Hitchcock's movie, Psycho. ( That shower scene still freaks me out) The next morning, I grabbed a bagel and some tasty caramel machiato cappuccino and headed out. In all honesty, I would stay here again. I'm part of a film crew, and we ended up booking rooms at the Rodeway Inn. At first we thought we were going to need 10 rooms, but then we swelled to need 14 at the last minute. The owners were very helpful in dealing with our crazy needs, even setting up breakfast early one day for an early call time (they even had Nutella!). The rooms are clean and smoke free (so they don't smell), and the beds comfy (our horse wrangler said he wanted to take one with him). We filled up the hotel's last room one night and needed an extra room/had to go to the Astro Budget next door. We had to look at two rooms over there before finding one that didn't smell. Yeah, that hotel was a few bucks cheaper, but the peace of mind from the Rodeway makes me want to book with them again when we're back for reshoots! read more

Everything seemed to be great after seeing all the good reviews they had until actually experiencing everything first hand. As soon as we walked in the room we saw a couple of bugs, we didn't make a big deal about because my girlfriend and I are not afraid of bugs and plus we didn't think anything of it since there were good reviews left on yelp for Roadway Inn. We decided to stay, 15 minutes after laying down my girlfriend began to grow red bumps on her skin. We think it was something on the bed. The bed was also full of hairs both short and long which was a bit disgusting. We used two of their rags to clean our dishes not knowing later they will over charge us for "damaging" their cheap towels. This place will try to overcharge you for "damaged" items. Overall it seems like a presentable place to stay, but from a closer look it wasn't as expected. Not recommended. read more

Holy smokes! You HAVE to read this!!! We were lucky enough to find this gem on our travels. We are currently moving across country from Florida to Washington state so you can imagine how long we had been on the road. Add in three kids ages 9 and twin 2 yr olds, plus three cats. Have mercy! We have stayed in our share of hotels during this trip and over the years from military life. This Rodeway was the absolute best. We made the decision to stop in Barstow on New Year's Eve in hopes to find a decent rate because everywhere we had stopped previously on our trip had been almost $200 a night! I had done a bit of research and noticed a LOT of complaints about bed bugs in the California area which obviously concerns me. When i found this hotel on Yelp, I noticed everyone mentioned the remodel and how nice the place was for an older hotel. They also mentioned how great the hospitality was. Rodeway seemed to be our best bet. We were exhausted and they were pet friendly so.... We off the exit and the city street area is dark and a bit sketchy. At the hotel, I instantly noticed the well lit parking area and the security cameras turned toward the rooms and on the parking lot. I felt MUCH better! Upon check in, Bindi welcomed us with a free room upgrade to a larger room with a full kitchen! I was shocked! For under $100? What's the catch??? The beds were so comfortable and i definitely checked them! They have each mattress covered in a bed bug resistant cover which is the same kind i have on my own bed. (I obviously don't like bugs!) They gave us a free bag of crackers at check in and took the time to tell us about restaurants in the area and their facilities. Then she mentioned they had a washer and dryer. I was in tears! Let me explain. We had been on the road a week and we will be staying in a hotel when we get to our final destination until our house is ready. Probably a total time of 3.5 weeks on the road and in hotels. I've really been making clothes stretch- which is super hard with kids in in-climate weather! I was skeptical bc public washers can be gross. Not these! They have a washer and dryer that cost about $1.50/$1.25 a load. I was able to get both loads of laundry done, all our jackets washed and the pack n play sheets washed! They turn the washer and dryers off at 10pm to keep the area quiet for guests. I didn't get my clothes completely dried before 10, so Bindi and her brother offered us the ability to use her industrial size dryer which dried the clothes in about 15 mins. She then insisted that we use her basket to get them to our room. We welcomed in the new year resting in their comfortable beds in dark rooms that were very quiet. We were so comfortable that I purposely slept right past my 530a alarm and we finally got up about 745. They had waffles and eggs cooked to order, oatmeal, pastries and fruit. Plenty to feed my family and get us on the road satisfied. This is a small, older hotel that is family owned and operated. It might not look like much on the outside but I promise you will not be disappointed. This was the best stay we have had in awhile and if we ever make it back this way, I will be back! I cannot Recommend this hotel or this family enough. They were so very kind to us and I truly appreciate everything! read more

I would never stay here again. The bed was uncomfortable and slanted. The heater was very noisy and woke me up every time it went on during the night. The blanket was thin and not large enough for the king size bed. The wireless was sporatic and slow at best. Basically an unpleasant night of poor sleep. Great place for the money! My husband and I stayed here last night. The owner is friendly and chatty. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable with an assortment of pillows. (My husband prefers firm and I like a soft pillow. We were both happy!) A fairly substantial continental breakfast was included: waffles, toast, bagels, packaged oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juice, and coffee. This was not our first choice when looking for a hotel for the night after a long day of driving. However, the first two places we went to had no non-smoking, 2 queen bed rooms available. After driving for a bit, we came across the Rodeway Inn and decided to check it out. Overall, the experience was fine. It was just what we expected, nothing more and nothing less. The towels in the shape of an elephant were a nice special touch to an otherwise traditional motel room. Sure the pillows were a bit flat, and the blankets thin, but the air-conditioning worked very well, and that was really all we needed to make for a comfortable night after a long day of driving. read more

Clean, spacious, above and beyond expectations. We're in the middle of a long distance relocation and the Rodeway Inn in Barstow is the best spot we've stayed. There was room for all our big suitcases and cooler. The laundry machines treated our clothes well. They even upgraded us to a room with a kitchen that enabled us to chill our cooler foods and re-freeze all our freezer packs. The restaurant they recommended was close enough to walk (nice after 9 hours in the car) and was just right for our family. They even maintain roses in the desert heat. This place was clean, quiet, and the bed was comfy. I would've given this 5 stars, but the manner of the owner is why I rated this lower. He explained that I was not allowed to leave the dining room with food at breakfast. When I asked why (because we have a microwave and fridge in the room, so they know we eat in our room), he said it's because everyone is vaccinated and everything has been opened up again. I said that doesn't mean everyone is comfortable, doesn't take into account the new variant, and it doesn't take into account personal situations. He continued on about how safe things are now and disregarded what I said. As I was preparing to leave the next day (without breakfast as I wasn't comfortable eating the small dining room with a bunch of unmasked people), I saw people leaving the dining room toward their rooms with breakfast. The owner was there and saw this. I don't know if he told other guests about this rule, but regardless, it's an absurd rule for him to make such a strong stance on with me yet not enforce it for others. The service during my stay and days after was exceptional! Nikki was most accommodating and professional. I saw her late when I checked in and first thing at sunrise working with the same bravado. She even made my waffle before I could find a cup to pour the batter! The room was excellent, had the feel of a 5-star hotel really. I know of little hotels, less much a motel that makes the towel animals! The elephants were a very sweet and welcoming touch in the room, there were 3 of them at least!
