The grounds are not well kept, I would not want to take children there. It looks run down. Owners are not overly interested in guests' needs after you check in. Their website says available 24/7 but owners say office closes at 6pm. So if something happens at your cabin and you call them, owners won't answer. The next morning they come to cabin with "attitude"! Not much customer service going on here. The website is not truthful - one cabin described as cozy, turns out to be a trailer, yikes! He has horse stables on grounds. On observation the horses are unfed, food is not being brought to them daily, no clean water. . Horses look thin, unhealthy. We spent last weekend here in a 4-bedroom cabin (3 kids, 6 adults) and loved the time we had despite the crazy drop in temperature... It made for an excellent chance to utilize the indoor fireplace at our cabin as we played board games throughout most of the evening. Our cabin wasn't much to look at on the outside, but gorgeously decorated and maintained on the inside. While it was secluded by trees from the many other cabins on the ranch, some others looked too close for comfort or privacy (but that's just my observation). Its October and probably the start of their off-season, yet they had a live music series we enjoyed Saturday night on the property. The music was at an outdoor cantina bar near the front of the ranch, which also had a large basketball court and miscellaneous balls for the kids to keep occupied with. At the bar, they offered a small selection of food which primarily consisted of Chili and Sausage wraps. The river across the street was easily accessible. If it were warmer, we would have spent our whole weekend in the scenic waters of the Guadalupe. Kayaks, tubes and rope swings were available to all guests on the ranch. I will mention (PARENTS TAKE NOTE) that the one fickle child who didn't want to do anything outside or with the family, was sorely disappointed in the Rec room offerings. With family coming in from all over, RTR was a great place to gather and relax. We brought lots of snacks and food to make for the weekend. It was nice that the kitchen was fully stocked with cooking utensils and dishware. Making breakfast each morning was a pleasant and fun delight. The most enjoyable and scenic part of the weekend was the herd of deer (saw at least 7-10) in the backyard. It was early in the morning while we enjoyed some fresh coffee. The kids even got to see one just a couple feet from the back door later that same morning. Roddy Tree Ranch offered us plenty of amenities and activities to take pleasure in, but the fact of the matter is the family made its own fun by simply being together in nature. read more

Wonderful place for a relaxing family vacation. Amazing service and a friendly atmosphere. I recommend The Ponderosa it is a nice size house with a fully furnished kitchen (has a washer and dryer as well but it was old, loud I recommend they buy a newer one) and bunk house. A great plus was free movie rentals and we could exchange our linens & towels for clean ones at the general store. The pools were great only wish they had hot tubs. Another plus was the game room it had a few ping pong table, foosball table and small movie room. Along with a meeting room for large groups. The Lazy Days Cantina had great food & music on the weekends. At the river they provide 4 canoes and life jackets (not a lot to choose from as far as sizes). A rope swing and lots of shade. We enjoyed canoeing down to the dam and sliding down the dam as well as fishing. You can also rent inner tubes for $3 a day at the general store to bring down to the river. Just to comment to the previous reviews. The grounds were not fabulous but they have been under a severe drought for the past 2 years so things are a little bleak but it was VERY clean. It was nice to wake up every morning and sit on the porch and watch deer and hear the birds chirping (lots of dove). read more

This is our third stay at the Roddy Tree Ranch. Each experience has been great. The owner, Keith, is friendly. The grounds are kept natural. There is usually live music in the evenings so if you don't like that, be warned. We love this rustic quirky place and will definately keep coming back. read more

The location is great the hospitality is great. However the cabin was very dirty! The bathroom smelled like a gas station urinal and the floors were filthy dirty they hadn't been swept or vacuumed in a very long time. There were dead bugs everywhere! Dead bugs all over the floor there were dead bugs in the lighting fixtures under the furniture in the bathroom and the microwave was really bad it was look like something had exploded in it and nobody had cleaned it for the next guest which was us. Like I said though the locations great if you need a place to stay where you want to bring your family for some good old-fashioned fun on the river spending time around the pool it's perfect. It just needs to be clean! read more

We visit roddy tree every summer for 7 nights. Our family of 30 rents 7 different cabins, and it's just awesome each year. Cabins are beautiful and so clean - very peaceful surroundings. Love the pool, river, farm animals, long walks, watching deer. Love the cantina with music and food on weekends. Keith (owner / operator) is so friendly and hands on. Very few (minor) problems we have had over the years were addressed and resolved right away. It's just a very relaxing great (huge) space for us all to spend down time away from busy lives. Love seeing all the grandkids playing. I'm aware some cabins may be nicer than others, but there are pictures on website so you may choose accordingly! Its actually our favorite week of the year. Can't say enough good things about this special place. read more

Second time holding our company retreat at Roddy Tree! Great place, amazing time! Highly recommend staying at this peaceful ranch!

I believe the owners of Roddy Tree Ranch do not run an honest business and I think it is best to avoid doing business with them. A long story short, we spoke with the owner who personally agreed upon honoring an expired groupon. The amount paid for the groupon was $258 for a 3 night, 2 day stay. We then called the front desk to schedule, they confirmed they knew about the arrangement, and they took down my credit card information. This was to keep a deposit of $149.85 to be refunded after the stay. Later that month when I reviewed my statement I was shocked to see a second charge for $149.85 made to my credit card two weeks after the initial charge. We called Roddy Tree Ranch back to ask about the charges and they claimed they said they would only honor a single day. This for starters, did not even equal the paid value of the groupon which does not expire until 2018. I will do my part to ensure that my experience is known via every channel possible. In my opinion, consumers should avoid companies who falsely represent themselves to customers, overcharge them and try and get away with it. Many large corporations are being charged for this in recent times and it's sad to feel that way about a smaller operation which I wanted to have faith in. Also, we did not get a bottle of wine with our stay as the groupon stated. My opinion is to hate this place with all my being. read more

Love this place so much! My family has been coming to Roddy Tree for about 20 years now. I have booked one or two cabins at a time for a small family getaway or a church retreat. We have also booked the entire ranch for the weekend for a wedding. The grounds are beautiful and absolutely well maintained. Property owners/managers are always quick to respond with any needs that we might have in a friendly and professional way. You can swim in one of two pools, game room, play sand volleyball, disk golf, go for long walks on trails, fish at the stocked pond, canoe/float the river, or just hang out and have a drink at the outdoor bar listening to live music at the Lazy Canteen bar/pavillian while the kids run around in a safe environment catching fireflies or playing basketball. I have never had a problem with any of the house being dirty on arrival and kitchen/bathrooms are all fully stocked with pretty much everything that you needs. I can't recommend this place enough. My family looks forward to our Roddy Tree vacation ever summer. They can fill up quickly so book yours sooner rather than later! read more

Unfortunately this was an awful experience. My family spent a lot of money on a living social deal to send me and my boyfriend here for my 30th birthday. I lived in Houston and he in Austin at the time, so the deal value had expired before we got to use it, but the paid value was still valid for another 3 years. I called to see if they would work with me and without asking the owner offered to honor the coupon. Other businesses have honored an expired living social or groupon before, so I wasn't surprised, but very pleased. They obtained our credit card information for the reservation and we booked our weekend. A few weeks after our stay we noticed 2 large charges from Roddy Tree. When we called to sort it out, they claimed they did not intend to honor the living social deal, just honor a one night's stay. However, they did not even honor the paid value on the coupon. It specifically states in the living social contract that the paid value is to be honored until 2018. In my opinion, they have unlawfully taken our money. They received payment twice, once from my family and once from us. I believe this was very dishonest and despite multiple attempts to rectify the situation, they have avoided any communication from us. I think customers should be very cautious. read more

We come to Roddy tree each year and have stayed in many of the different cabins and always have a blast. The amount of things to do that are all fun and family friendly are awesome . The kids love dancing to the live music at the cantina, playing at the playground, canoeing the river and swimming in the pool. At night most of the cabins are fenced so they can play flashlight tag while the parents have a beer and grill dinner. The pits are charcoal so bring a bag with you. The cabins are not remotely run down as the other reviewer states, they are rustic. Trust me there is a difference. read more

We're from Austin and have visited the Roddy Tree Ranch recently for the 3rd time in 6 months. I absolutely love this place as we have visited other bed and breakfasts in the area and have to say this is our favorite. Great place to take the family, we stayed in a three bedroom upstairs home that was lovely and plenty of space for 7 guests. The kids had a great time and took advantage of the sand volleyball, playground, easy access to lake/dock with free canoe use, they played basketball at the Lazy Days Canteen and listened to the juke box. Location is great and close to town but still far enough outside to feel like you're in the country. It feels very much like a home away from home with all the comforts including full kitchen with pots & pans, dishes, etc. We brought groceries and cooked out on the patio grill and they had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone just needing to get away from the city to experience what small town life is like. Kids LOVED going down to the gift shop and the owner & staff seemed not to mind at all which I appreciated as some people are bothered by kids at these types of establishments. Each home has a TV with dvd player and their gift shop is loaded with DVD rentals. Also, definitely is a romantic spot for couples as most of the homes are secluded enough or far apart enough that you are not rooming right next door to others as in other B&B's in the area. You definitely get your privacy. Although there were families there you do not get a sense of noise or commotion as everyone is pretty separate from each other. The owner was driving around the entire time on his golf cart as was his staff maintaining the property so you feel completely safe and not isolated as another guest commented. Overall LOVE this place and it has become a preferred mini getaway spot for my family. read more
