This place is a find! The dirt road leading here had me concerned but it's a Texas Cool shangrila…read morecarved out 5 MINUTES from downtown Fredericksburg and it's in the middle of the country! There are 8 rooms built from shipping containers... not 1 container per room getting smuggled into the US creepy, but several joined to give each room a multidimensional look... each has a bedroom with a spacious reading den/nook and kitchenette. Huge fluffy towels in high end bathrooms. Each room customized with the owners collection of books and art and just... things. Built around a courtyard with a big gas fire pit... looks like lots of s'mores are downed there... where our group finished off every evening. So much better than ANY motel and MOST hotels. This place is a no brainer stay when I'm here in F'burg....

Spent 2 nights and three wonderful days at this fairly new getaway compound. We rented the Rosa…read moreroom, and my sister and her husband rented the Shangri-La (they were repeat customers). The buildings are constructed from shipping containers! They are very quiet inside, beautifully and smartly decorated, and each has a unique "theme". Immaculately clean and well appointed with everything you need. Great heating, AC and ceiling fans. Be warned, there is NO TV and the internet access is sketchy. But isn't that the purpose of "getting away"? Very pet friendly place! There is a 10 acre hay field behind (also owned by the hosts) where dogs are allowed to run freely. The hosts, Mary Susan and JD, are very personable and always on site. They actually greet you, get to know you, hang with you at the fire pit at night, dispense great local knowledge and bid you farewell at departure. Only five minutes from Fredericksburg and lots of great food, live music, the Chester A. Nimitz, National Museum of the Pacific War museum and many wonderful wineries (particularly The Edge and Adega Vinho). It's a bit challenging to find, but the hosts provided good directions. Our hosts provided S'mores at the fire pit nightly. For New Year's Eve, they provided tamales, black-eyes peas, fireworks and Champagne! Very quiet and a bit remote. Deer occasionally visit the grounds. A great getaway that is becoming very popular. There is also a farmhouse with a meeting room for larger groups. Make reservations early! We will definitely make a return trip here!

What a lovely time we had at The Lodge We were there for a…read morewedding and it was u h a beautiful experience. We were in suite 10 and the room was spic and span clean. The room was appointed in beautiful old world charm. It had a huge king size bed that sits high off the floor, an old hard wood cloths wardrobe and night stands on each side of the bed. It was also furnished with a couch that pulls out into a bed and also a coffee table. The bathroom was great , it has a huge jacuzzi soaking tub that easily accommodates 2 . I had to use the step stool provided for the bed to get into the tub. I am only 5'1 and the tub is so deep that it's hard to get into. Yes here is not much counter space in the bathroom to put toiletries but we made do. There is also a fridge , microwave and coffee maker in the room. The grounds are well kept and the pool area is so relaxing. In the outdoor lounge area there are comfy couches and a fire place. Breakfast baskets are provided every morning and were a great touch. It was an amazing weekend and we will definitely be back.

For years, I've visited Fredericksburg and every time we passed this lodge, we fantasized about…read morewhat it would be like to stay there. It looked so inviting and cozy from the outside. Thankfully, we found out that it's not quite as expensive as it looks, and we could afford to stay there, so we did! The room was wonderful and very comfortable. I love the stone wall! Only qualm I had was in regard to the shower/tub. The jacuzzi tub itself was amazing, but they put a "rainshower" head above it for showers. First of all, it was a regular showerhead pointed straight down, not a rainshower like those positioned that way should be. A sign asks you to utilize the shower curtain properly so there is no water damage... which is impossible even when using the curtain. It's just a very odd setup. There will be water damage just of how the whole thing was designed. Worst about it all, was how high the tub itself is- if you are in any way disabled (be it permanently or temporarily injured) or elderly, you are going to despise this tub/shower. I'm a 34-year old fit and active person, and I struggled getting in and out of this thing. It's awkward to start with but then add water and oh sh!t, you're going down for sure! We used the stairs for the bed and put them in the bathroom for this reason but it didn't help much. Other than that, everything else was spectacular. The staff was friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the fireplace which was SO cozy! Perfect for the chilly nights we had. They supply firewood and firestarters so it's very easy to make your own. During one of the days, it was warm enough to enjoy the pool too. Breakfast gets delivered in an adorable picnic basket and it's loaded! We expected the norm of simple breakfast options like mini boxes of cereal and muffins. Nope! Hard-boiled eggs, fruit galore, prosciutto, cheese, danishes/pastries, oatmeal, and yogurt. It was different every day and delicious every day. Treat yourself and stay here! You'll be glad you did. If you fear the wacky tub/shower, don't choose room 10. That's where we were but all the rooms are unique and others may have a better layout in the bathroom.

After I discovered their site, the hubby and I decided to conference in a call. The phone was immediately answered by a very friendly lady named Carren. We told her our likes and dislikes and in under 5 minutes she suggested about a 1/2 dozen properties they book for (they have listings for over 200). After we reviewed the suggested properties, we certainly had a preference for which one we would like to stay at (the Fawkwerk Cottage at Haussegen Log Haus). Booked and done! And, I must add this was a last minute trip. We called about 2 days prior to our desired arrival date and Carren was more than eager to accommodate us. We loved the Cottage and our "hosts" (please see separate review) so much that we decided to stay an extra night. One call to Carren. Booked and done again! GREAT customer service from Carren and all of the other staff we interacted with! They were all so helpful, friendly, and a hoot to boot!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ALL OF YOUR TRAVEL NEEDS WHEN VISITING FREDERICKSBURG, TX!!! Have to add the following to the overall review: On the FCLRS website, they offer "Romance Packages" that you can add on to any lodging stay. We discovered this while we were on the initial phone call with Carren during booking. So, the "fun" between my husband and I and FCLRS began very early into our first experience of Fredericksburg. A necessary explanation: There are 3 different package prices ranging from $39.95-$59.95 that offer a variety of items to enhance your stay; chocolates or roses perhaps...or Easy Cheese (Midnight Package) and 1-time use camera (in the Snuggle Package). hahaha! I am NOT kidding! Here's the URL: http://www.fredericksburg-lodging.com/romance-packages.asp We all laughed so hard at the offerings while we were on the phone....and continued to laugh when we arrived to check-in and get keys to the cottage. The whole crew have a great sense of humor and complimented us on how fun they thought we were. :-D So much in fact I was sent out with a free can of the cheese. hahaha After we decided to stay the additional night we had to pick up our breakfast voucher after FCLRSs business hours. Low and behold the envelope was rather large...that's because they had included a free disposable camera and written "Love u guys...Have fun!" on the outside! Well, I had made the off-handed suggestion that I thought the cheese and camera should come in the same package...so they gifted us one of each. Thank you!!! Love you guys, too!!! The best customer service EVER!!! .....'as I type still smiling'.....;)

The cottage had just the right amount of roominess to feel cozy. It had top of the line appliances, Samsung TV, refrigerator, full kitchen with microwave, coffee pot with coffee, etc, snacks, comfy bedding, nice sitting area with a comfortable love seat and chair, a table and two chairs, the bathroom was nice, not big, but, supplied with all our needs, outside the front door was a concrete patio seating area with a table covered with an umbrella. We felt secluded and enjoyed every bit of time spent there! In fact, one night, we stayed in and watched Netflix. Also, access was very private. No noice that we heard. We couldn't have been more pleased. I would have liked breakfast to have been included, but we couldn't have everything, but had everything else. This made the price, right for a stay in Fredericksburg. We loved staying at Viola Pearl and will again. The host was lovely, but, not, at all, intrusive. We highly recommend a stay at Viola Pearl!
