So, I had a very poor experience last August with this company, particularly the owners and their employee, Steve. If anyone is wondering why it took me 9 months to write a review, here is why. I'm not much of a review writer. I know sh*t happens, and once it's behind me, I don't like to engage in the negative stuff more that I have to. But, I'm back now because the owners appear to have JUST responded to the review my sister wrote, in which she took a lot of time and stress to put into writing, so that other folks could be warned and not have the same bad experience we did. Why would the owners only just respond now 9 months later, with an apology? It is too little too late. I'm not writing this review to get into a re-litigation over the particulars (a theft of our catalytic converter while our car was parked behind rocky mtn camper vans locked doors with (supposed cameras). It was unfortunate for us, but my sister and I get it - these things happen. What made it really awful, though, was the attitude first of Steve, their employee, and then of the owners themselves (erin and her husband). Did they apologize? Sure. Maybe. But only after sending us a reminder that they aren't legally liable. Somewhere in between their litany about how this could happen anywhere, even going into the grocery store, blah blah blah. The police could only help us if we could have access to the cameras, which the owners were unclear and sketchy about. Turns out, the posted signs about "camera surveillance" were just for show (which I only just learned about reading their response to my sister) - would have been good to know this BEFORE we decided to leave our car on their locked lot. So, buyer/renter BEWARE - our van was cool, our trip was great, but if you have ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL, don't expect the employees and owners to have any genuine support and kindness. They are unlikely to be genuine and supportive just because it's the kind and professional thing to do. Husband (Boyd?) is especially condescending, but neither of them appeared to actually care about our predicament. Bait & Switch.........Absolute rip-off. Booked via Outdoorsy but was contacted by Erin (owner). She stated that not only was the van we selected not available, but a comparable van could be booked but the price was higher. Blamed Outdoorsy. Then canceled within 48 hrs and they stated we will not refund you, its an Outdoorsy problem. Great experience renting a 1999 Eurovan for a trip from Vegss through Zion, Bryce and Page. It was our first time in a campervan and it took a day to get into the groove but we loved it the flexibility and laid back vibe. AC furnace and stove worked great, the fridge was a bit weak and the back shower was finicky at times but those were not major issues. The bed was super comfortable and the pop top gave us plenty of room to hang out when inside. Overall it was such a unique experience, I'm already looking forward to our next trip. read more

Unfortunately, RMCV will be the recipient of my first negative review. I waited to post this, as the situation left me feeling sketched out, but I think folks need to know what they're potentially getting into if anything goes wrong during their rental. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a business. We received callous, indifferent treatment after being the victim of a crime on their property. I know we're in a collective state of post-pandemic agitation & many of us are not the best version of ourselves right now, but their response fell below my standards of basic human decency. I do hope this will motivate them to look inwards and do better by their customers in the future, but I feel like we were punished for supporting their business. My sister and I rented the Promaster for a week. We were invited to leave my personal vehicle on their locked, gated private property during this time. The gate was covered with a tarp, obscuring the vision of what's inside, with barbwire and signs saying security camera in use. Upon our return, I learned that my catalytic converters were stolen, with additional damage done to the car. When we called Steve (manager), he was bizarrely unhelpful and couldn't be bothered to physically come on site to help us navigate the situation. He said it's, "no different than if a break in occurred at a grocery store . . . that if it happened there it wouldn't be expected that they come out to call the police & file your claim for you." I disagree. I would never leave my car parked unattended for a week at a supermarket & had they made it clear it wasn't safe on their property, I wouldn't have left it there. We were also told that we signed a contract releasing them of any liability in this situation. In addition, the security camera footage was not made available to us. Without it, the police were unwilling to investigate, leaving us with no option to pursue the perpetrators. Erin and Boyd (owners) were equally unkind and unhelpful. Boyd told us, "he couldn't be held accountable for the actions of crackheads." He talked over us in a raised voice & almost seemed angry at being put in the situation. The whole conversation had very victim blamey vibes. If anything, he should've felt grateful that his vans didn't get targeted along with mine & have been willing to help out. Boyd did mention that he didn't charge us for one extra day, since we returned the van a day early and how this action alone made him "a good guy." As an afterthought, he also shared the name of his mechanic and said he, "hoped they will give us a discount if we mention his name." In my mind this was a non-solution. In fairness, our experience wasn't all bad. The van got us where we needed to be, while providing shelter. The big pro was that the poptop enabled us to have our own space at night. Fridge was nice too. While not filthy, we did need to wipe everything down before leaving for our trip. Bedding was also questionable as to cleanliness, so I'd recommend bringing your own. Van struggled going over 45mph uphill in the mountains. We weren't in a rush, so no big deal, but know you'll be chugging up hill, in case that's an issue for you. Overall, we had fun & had the trip not ended the way it did, we may've considered renting again. It seems like these guys are capitalizing on the vanlife trend without actually embodying the spirit of it. While I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that their response was fear driven since a crime occurred on their property, it still felt awful to be on the receiving end of their treatment. Had they shown some genuine empathy & concern for what occurred & been willing to at least meet us half way, not because they were legally obligated to do so, but because it's the morally sound choice, it would've made all the difference. I'm sure if the roles were reversed & this happened to them, they would've been reeling. If you are going to rent from them, I hope you have an amazing time, but don't assume they'll have your back if you have any issues. And don't park on their property! read more

We have rented eurovan camper vans from other individuals and loved them and had excellent experience with the owners. This, however, was not what we experienced with Rocky Mountain Campervans. Problem #1 Two days prior to flying to Vegas to pick up the van for a trip to Death Valley, I was informed that the vehicle we were renting was damaged. So they were going to give me a different vehicle that they tried to pitch as an upgrade, but it was not the vehicle I wanted with space and seating arrangement. However, due the lack of prompt notice of this change I was stuck with no time to find other arrangements. They indicated that they knew about it 3 or 4 days before they spoke to me about it. Had they been proactive in communicating with me, I could have made other arrangements. They made no effort to make this inconvenience of a vehicle I didn't want right by offering any financial compensation which I felt would have shown good faith and customer service. They said they would pay the difference of the increase in insurance as if that was some great benefit to me for a vehicle I didn't want. It benefits them to have their vehicle insured. As of today, the company charged me $100 for the additional insurance and have only refunded $75 of it. Problem #2 Arrive in Vegas, get a ride to the remote pick up for the van. The van is NOT at the designated pick up point. (SIDE NOTE: I would NEVER DO REMOTE PICK UP again. You need a person there to make sure everything is as it should be.) This is kind of a big deal as it is me with my two kids it is getting dark and I have a 2 hour drive ahead of me that night. I call the company. They have to make a "call" to find out where the van is. It is at another location 20 minutes across town. Do they offer to get it to me?? NO. The onus is on me to get myself to the vehicle. I ask how are they willing to make it right? I ask if they could waive the $50 after hours pick up fee (which felt like a ridiculous nickel and diming me fee because the van is just sitting in a parking lot. No employees are there to even help me. Who's being inconveinced by a 6:30pm pick up?). The employee agreed to that which I thought was a fair considering the incredible inconveience and error on the part. Two days later when I asked about it, the employee said the owners said no to waiving the $50 fee but instead would cover my uber expense, BUT only if I sent them a receipt. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have to prove to you that I had to get across town to pick up a van you said would be at a different location!! I didn't bother. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Huge mistake on company's part, yet onus is on me. We get to location of van and is hard to find in the dark in a complex of office buildings. Once we find the van we wrestle in the dark with the key lockbox to get the keys out for the vehicle. Then we find a large cooler in the van we didn't ask for and have no space for that we had to figure out how to unload, again another drawback of the remote pick up. It was a very frustrating and tiring way to start our trip and the company did little in the way of making their mistakes right. Problem #3 The interior was not very well maintained. We have rented these old vehicles before so we know how the equipment can work smoothly. A lot of WD-40 is needed. The bench to pull into the bed was very "sticky" and hard to pull out. The pop up didn't work super smoothly either. A couple of the pushdown locks were wonky kind of "loose" so they wouldn't pull up and down or wouldn't lock with the key and had to manually push down or pull up. Window shade on the sliding door was broken so couldn't secure that for privacy or block out morning sun. There were crumbs and some garbage on the back bench and dry crusty stuff on the table. Things were scratch up and stained and there was random gunk on the cupboards, drawers, walls that was all washable (yet hadn't been). Nice to have outdoor folding chairs but 2 of them were torn/broken. Kitchen items and bedding were worn. Sheet had a hole in it. The company/van instruction manual was very dirty and falling apart. The van had a very shabby unclean vibe. We've rented well maintained ones from other individuals. Problem #4 We returned the vehicle early to the CORRECT remote location in good condition. I let the company know it was there through a text and that text was briefly acknowledged but there was never any follow up from the company. They never confirmed everything was fine with the van or thanked us for our business, or asked for feedback, or apologized, etc. It was radio silence. The lack of customer service once again dumbfounded me. The Good-The steering column was in good condition. The rubber matting on the floor was nice. It did not break down or have any mechanical issues. Moving forward - I will never rent from this company again nor can I in good faith recommend them. The experience with them was a dark cloud over our trip. read more

We rented the Eurovan Full Camper and couldn't have been happier - picked it up in Vegas and drove to Southwest Utah to explore Zion, Dixie National Forest and Bryce Canyon for my 30th bday with our pup. The RV was well equipped and performed well - just be sure to really go over the driving and equipment details of the campervan thoroughly. Didn't realize the auto tranny required a half-click on the shifter to drop it into 3rd for going up hills. Called Boyd, he picked up right away to explain and we were good to go. This was perfect for a family getaway into the mountains! The kids loved cooking and sleeping in 'Bertha'. We usually camp in tents and the convenience of having water and a kitchen might make it hard to go back! Erin and Boyd were great to deal with and we had no issues. read more

We had the luxury of taking out "Bertha" for a quick weekend get away to Angel Fire, New Mexico. Boyd, the owner, was super friendly and detailed when we picked up the van- giving detailed instructions on how to care for and operate Bertha! Bertha drove nicely to our destination and was easy to set up and equipt with all the necessities for the weekend (pots/pans/plates/wine cork, ziplocks, foil, etc). There was plenty of space for our small family to sleep comfortably and the black out shades made it ideal to catch up on some much needed rest! Especially enjoyed running water and counter space to prepare meals. Our camping adventures have changed now that we've had a taste of van life! Can't wait for the next adventure and to continue to support this awesome local family business! Thank you for a great weekend. read more

We rented a 1999 Eurovan for a trip to Escalante, UT. We experienced an issue with our van due to road conditions. Staff clearly walked us through what was restricted and this road was not included, though we were later told we should have "known" and were at fault. OK, fine. We paid in full for all the van fixes. Boyd, the owner, was rude and unreasonable throughout. When we broke down 25 miles down a road without cell service in the blazing Utah heat, we flagged down a passersby to call Boyd as directed. He was rude, aggressive, and flustered. He seemed to not even have rudimentary knowledge of what could possibly be wrong with the van. He demanded that we (two women who did not know the area) stay with the van until the tow truck came. We declined for our own safety and good thing - the tow truck didn't come until 10pm that night. Long story short, Escalante, UT is the bomb but Boyd personally offered some of the worst customer service I have experienced -- from start to finish when he refused to release maintenance records of the van and then surreptitiously charged us for damages without notifying us first. The van is cool but vintage means several things were not functioning when we took it and is not fit for use outside of a paved national park. Now we know. If Boyd had been respectful, transparent, and courteous we might have had the same outcome but SUCH a better experience and would be returning again and again to rent from him. read more

We rented a van on May 2021 (DEN-3924) to head to Yellowstone, which is like a 10 hour drive from Denver . Leaving Denver, around 4pm, the transmission of the van failed abruptly. While driving in the fast line of the highway. We had emergency help from a trouper which literally pushed the van to a "safer" place (i.e, the emergency lane of the highway). We immediately called Rocky Campers Rentals and yes, we were lucky. First of all, we did not have an accident. Second, yes, there was a van available and we didn't have to cancel ALL the trip for this incident. But this was not by any means not a set back or a disruption of our planned schedule. They even agreed that the van was not adequately checked before handing it to us. It took around 3 hours in the emergency lane of the highway for the replacement van to arrive. I think any renter would have done a HUGE issue about this. But we exchanged the car with a smile and followed our trip. We drove long hours by night and had to sleep elsewhere and pay an extra night of the hotel. By the way, we also lost a day in Yellowstone because of this. The owner itself assured that they will cover for the night of hotel we lost because of the incident. He thanked us for not making a big issue with the transmission failure and he confirmed that the company would reimburse and asked us to send the invoice. To be honest, this was the LEAST we expected, and it was not even significant money. But they never did. We contact them MANY times. They first agreed but then simply denied their offer and made excuses. Thus, even though we love WV and had overall a very nice trip, the experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. We do not consider them a serious company and would not rent from them again. read more

This Campervan made our trip to the West Epic! We stayed in Devils Tower, Bozeman, Yellowstone and the Tetons. Boyd and Erin (owners) were wonderful to work with and reviewed all of the Campervan functions in detail so that we felt comfortable driving and using all of its features. We stayed at both KOA sites (plugged in to electric) as well as off the grid (which is easy to do too)! You can park in regular parking spots and fit anywhere which for us was much easier than an RV. We can't wait to plan our next Campervan trip! read more

My wife, 2 year old daughter, and I rented a 80's Vanagon Westfalia out of their Las Vegas location for a week long trip through some of the national parks. I cannot recommend this Company enough! We just got back from a great trip in Southern Utah in a Winnebago Solis. Boyd, Erin, and Steve were easy to work with and the Van was in great shape. Highly recommend working with RMC and doing your trip on or off the grid. I recommended to RMC is to ensure the directions for all the upgrades to the van are in the binder and all the levels are full upon takeoff but otherwise it was a great experience. read more

Do NOT rent a camper van from these folks unless you have unlimited time and money for gas! They told me it would go 65 miles per hour on the highway. It will, if you're going downhill! I averaged less than 40 mph on my trip to Laramie, WY and back. It lost power on every hill on I 25 and almost conked out a few times. They studiously avoid telling you about the gas mileage, because it's abysmal. I averaged less than 10 mpg on the highway and actually ran out of gas, for the first time in my life, one mile outside of Laramie. I had gone 155 miles on a 16 gallon tank! I had to cancel my trip to Yellowstone because I had neither the time or money to make the trip in this completely inadequate vehicle. I returned it after one day and they charged me for six, refusing even a partial refund. Don't make the same mistake I did - NEVER rent one of these vans! read more

Family run company that work hard to make sure you have a great experience! Very knowledgeable about their Campervans and also about the area and where to go. We are so glad we kept our reservation during Covid. We rented "green apple" and drove to Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The campervan came with everything you needed to camp. All Camping and kitchen items, bedding, towel, chairs included! It was so much fun! We are already planning our next trip! read more

Where do I even start? These people are AWESOME. As someone new and unfamiliar with the process of renting/operating a campervan, I felt completely at ease throughout the entire process. Erin was so helpful throughout the booking process and answered our many questions promptly and with patience. The pickup process was seamless, complete with a full tutorial on how to operate the vehicle, what to do in an emergency, etc. Boyd helped us with the drop off process, gave us some great advice on what to do in Denver and anyone else we met on the staff was a pleasure to work with. We couldn't have been happier with the our experience with RMCV. They make it so easy to camp by providing EVERYTHING (bed & bath linens, flatware / cookware / utensils, clothesline/clips, bike rack, games, chairs, outdoor rug, lanterns / lamps, etc.) you need (just bring your clothes and some food) to have a really good time. A chalet on wheels! The van was clean, fully equipped, and ready to go with everything we needed for winter camping. A.B. & Erin made the rental experience very easy. Great service, very friendly, and affordable. You can tell they really love what they're doing. We rented a `97 VW Eurovan to go snowshoeing, sledding, and camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. Camping with snowy peak views in January! A.B. gave us the full rundown on the van's features before we left. He was very thorough and everything was very smooth. The van came equipped with absolutely everything we needed for winter camping. The propane furnace kept us nice and toasty. The van was weather ready with snow tires and handled very well, even on snowy passes. Rocky Mountain Camper Vans is a total game changer for anyone like us who has always wanted to travel VW-style, but doesn't have one of their own. We've already reserved a van for this summer for more camping and music festivals. read more

I wanted to provide some detail to prospective users, as I appreciate it when I am making arrangements. My husband has camping experience; I do not. We rented the Manual transmission 1984 Westfalia for one week with a tent package. My husband wanted to go camping - I wanted to have the option of sleeping in a more secure camper with a mattress, but still maneuverable for driving around the hairpin turns. We (couple plus 11 year old) camped in Rocky Mountain National Park, and then also "first come first serve" Guanella pass campground in Arapaho National Forest. We flew in from Boston. Pros: great customer service, cool/vintage vibe, many people (rangers and fellow campers) love to come and see it/talk (i.e., "I love this - I had one of these in the past), in good working order, stocked exactly as described, comfy sleep for myself and daughter in upper part. We really appreciated having a big sturdy canopy (free standing, not the attached awning which wasn't available) as it rained and hailed during our camping trip - we could sit on camp chairs under the canopy next to the fire in the rain. Nice to have working stove - quick to boil water for coffee etc. mattress was very comfy - even, new foam. All sorts of cool knobs and storage. Cons: Drives and rides like an old school bus. Important you are comfortable driving an older model manual transmission - in the hills. My husband drove the whole time as I don't drive manual - big "four on the floor" shifter. Van was very hot to ride in except in the mountains - no real A.C. - needed when on the freeway - van got heated up - hot air coming through vents. Miserable driving in and out of Denver. Had to drive it gently (slowly) as requested by owners - frequently pulling over to let others pass us when in mountains. A few things in the van did not work - lighter out of fuel, lantern out of battery - so bring back up matches and lamps. Very hard not to have a way to light a fire! Despite storage in van, once you get food and groceries and suitcases in there it is pretty packed. Sleeping pads are thin - that is not their fault, just the way of camping. But as I said I was sleeping on the bed inside which was great - pad used by husband when camping in the tent, Also these are regular sleeping bags not cold rated ones and we were cold when camping above 10,000 feet (we did not use the heater - but were dressed in layers, hat, winter coat - in August). Just sharing all these details so you know what to expect - not a complaint - just this is apparently how we all used to ride around back in the day - I just had forgotten it! In all an excellent experience - great company - and the Rockies were gorgeous! read more

Took a weekend mother-daughter road trip with my 9-year old and we had the pleasure of taking "Pinky" along for the ride - '84 Westfalia. Words can't describe what a fantastic time we had! The AWESOME owners made the process so simple and walked me through everything that I would need to know to have a great trip. I've lived in CO for 12 years and have made it around most of the state, but making the trek in a campervan was a whole new experience. My daughter has already asked to make it an annual tradition and we've adopted Pinky as part of our family. Huge thanks to RMCV for making our trip so memorable! read more

My girlfriend and I had such a great experience with an 8 day VW Campervan rental from the great folks at Rocky Mountain Campervans. We flew in from Ohio for the rental. The van was equipped with everything you would or could need for a car camping trip. We were fully instructed on all aspects of use of the van. The van is so user friendly and fun. We went to three national parks and Telluride for a music festival and the van did great. You basically pull it in to your parking spot and within just a few minutes you are all set up. Tons of room in the vans. We had a small problem with the van, but Erin and Boyd were so quick and helpful during a holiday weekend. It says a lot about how they run their business and take care of their customers. This is such a great way to see the beautiful state of Colorado. I highly recommend to anybody!!! read more

As a particular and ultra-picky VW Vanagon owner myself, it's hard to imagine a better experience than I had with Rocky Mountain Camper Vans (RMCV). Owners Erin and Boyd were easy to deal with, accommodating, and had the van LOADED with everything we needed to camp and snowboard out of. The van, named Stanley, ran great, was clean, and handled the snow in Keystone and A-Basin without an issue. I recommend RMCV to any and all comers who want to have an adventure in a unique vehicle. The best part about driving a VW van is you instantly become a traveler as opposed to a goofy tourist - which is exactly what RMCV allows you to do. Blessings phriends... read more

If only the vans they actually rent to folks were as clean and lovely as the one shown on the Youtube demo. That must be a special demo for the youtube demonstration only - a fantasy van that never actually goes out on the road, perhaps? The vans on their website look nice, so I actually believed this was what we were renting. Not so. The camper van we rented was eleven years old, filthy dirty, nothing worked properly, and there was literally scotch tape on the propane ignition switch inside. I would have backed out when we picked it up, but the owners were out of the country, I had to deal with an employee who not only didn't seem to know how things worked, but repeatedly insulted my intelligence when I later contacted him with questions. Also, I would still have had to pay fifty percent of the entire rental fee upon cancellation. Bedding?? I actually laughed out loud at that part. No bedding, just filthy stained seats which we could not sleep on. We put towels on the front seats while we were driving because they were so nasty. They also put used tires on the van (calling them 'brand new') which nearly blew out on the highway after we had driven the van just over 1,100 miles. The front end alignment was faulty and after replacement of all four tires, had to be realigned. The VW mechanic who assessed the tires and alignment was clearly rattled at the company's negligence in sending us out with tires in such poor condition. Will never rent again or recommend a rental from this company. Take your valuable vacation dollars elsewhere, folks. read more

Three of us decided on short-notice to fly to CO for a girls' weekend. Couldn't decide on where to stay or what type of vehicle to rent. We found Rocky Mountain Campervans online and that solved our dilemma. Erin, one of the owners, met us at the airport with the VW--how convenient is that?! She thoroughly-- yet succinctly-- demonstrated all the features and we were able to get on with our vacay in no time! We couldn't believe how well they stocked the van. Aside from food and drinks, we had everything we needed to camp in comfort and style. We bombed around Colorado for two days and packed in so much fun that it felt like two weeks. It was great being able to pull off at one of the many little roadside campgrounds and set up for the eve. Footloose and fancy free. We had so much fun with our VW and can't wait to get back to CO to do it again! read more
