Stumbled across this spot while walking around Midtown Sacramento. It's a small location, but packed with great finds and a lot of options. The staff was welcoming. You can find everything from CDs and cassettes to vinyl records, definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and enjoy browsing for music gems. read more

Loved rocket records. I stopped in with some friends just to look around and ending up finding the perfect gift for my brother. The selection of music is great, the prices were reasonable, and service was quick and friendly. I would recommend to anyone looking for a new record ! read more

The vibe fits the place straight retro, they have a couch where you could listen to some records. Owner will have a conversation with you if you are looking for something specific. Art work on the wall is cool foo. Swing by and also hit the coffee shop next door. read more

In regards to the recent 2026 RSD complaint towards the store. There are rules set-up beforehand to make sure it can be an enjoyable day for all, not just for one individual. Augie tries his best to provide that and implemented a new system this year to try and make it a better experience. It seems this individual was not happy because it did not benefit them. If the rules were confusing or not clear, customers are generally encouraged to call and ask questions. Also, when leaving a complaint, what nesscessity is it to state your ethnicity? What does that have to do with rules that are enforced to everyone. Augie is a pleasant and kind person and doesn't discount people because of music genre tastes, education, or race. This negative review is undeserved. You still had the chance to have 5 guaranteed picks. More then most other places. I was in line as well, but just behind the first 10 people. If you wanted more you could go back in and try your luck with everyone else. You were waiting since 8am? Try waiting from 12am if you want to try to make sure you get an album you want. I've done that. Rocket Records, Augie and the whole family are great and I'll always stand behind that. They try their best to provide a welcoming shopping experience. read more

I'm extremely disappointed by my first Record Store Day experience here in Sacramento, as well as my niece's first experience ever. We arrived at 8am and waited until doors opened at noon, only to be met with policies that were not clearly communicated or reflected on the store's website or instagram account. We were told we counted as one person and could only purchase five rsd items total, despite having separate payment methods. Had that been made clear in advance, we wouldn't have wasted our time at this small shop with small-minded employees who looked like this was as far as they were able to go in life. What made the experience worse was how we were treated. I felt profiled and unfairly accused of being a reseller, despite the fact that my niece and I had completely different lists, hers clearly reflecting a younger audience, and mine my own personal taste. That assumption felt baseless and, frankly, discriminatory. The overall atmosphere was unwelcoming and condescending, especially toward music tastes that didn't seem to align with what staff considered acceptable. My niece was made to feel uncomfortable and overlooked, which is incredibly disheartening for an event that should be inclusive and enjoyable for all ages. As an educated Mexican woman, I left feeling judged and looked down on. I was really looking forward to experiencing Record Store Day in my hometown, especially after missing it in San Diego due to a difficult personal situation. Unfortunately, this experience only added to an already challenging time. And after we left this location, we went to a different record store and told them about our experience at rocket records. They helped us get everything that was on our list while providing wonderful customer service. They even apologized on behalf of the other record store. Thank you, Kicksville Vinyl and Vintage, you are wonderful and we will be seeing you again!! I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to clearer communication, fairer policies, and a more respectful, inclusive environment in the future. read more

A worker (possibly the owner) yanked my iPad from my hand as I walked out the shop. He assumed I was stealing and I have empathy for him when it comes to dealing with thieves but the audacity of him to grab my stuff from my hands with no remorse makes me feel obligated to leave this review. As a veteran that deals with PTSD and is working on my emotional regulation, this experience ruined my trip to Sacramento. I didn't deserve to be treated that way and no amount of I'm sorry will fix that. read more

The guy at the counter was very nice. Great selection and prices. There was a wide variety. There's not too much mainstream except some new stuff but a ton of old stuff and interesting finds read more

Great smaller scale shop that feels old school. Run by Augie who is always friendly and passionate about music. Good curated selection of both vintage (used) albums as well as newer bands and reissues. My family has found great stuff here over the years. Highly recommended. read more

I come here pretty often, the owner Auggie is always really nice, he's super knowledgeable about music and has helped me find records I was looking for along with authenticate a record I was unsure of. They have a wide range of music and it's well organized. The records are priced fairly unlike some other record stores. read more

I visited the Rocket Records store on Wednesday, 1/17/24. What I liked most about this store was the huge selection of records, CDs, etc. I found of specific box of CDs and the store was selling each one for only $1. That was an amazing deal that I had to take advantage of. The customer service was pleasant and friendly. I recommend coming here. read more

Great selection, great owners and great atmosphere! Their stickers are also amazing and so fun!

I just called Rocket Records 5 minutes ago. I gave my name to the representative that answered the call. Since he didn't say his at first, I asked him for it. He questioned me why I wanted it. I mentioned that is a good business practice to be professional and customers like to know who one is dealing with. My intention in contacting the business was to consider a pristine Christmas LP vinil records from the 60's and 70's. It'll be of no surprise that businnes competion would be please I didn't go to Rocket Records. read more

We jumped on the trend of getting a record player and were on a search to add to our small collection of vinyls. The one that I HAD to find was Michael Jackson's Thriller. Although it was a rainy day, Rocket Records had quite a number of folks perusing their collection. I love that they have a player to sample records before you commit to buying them. We ended up listening to New Order on their headset and instantly knew this was one to add to our home collection. Low and behold, near the end of the search, I found the vinyl that I had searched for all day!! We also left with a Cyndi Lauper record. 3 from one shop means great options AND great prices! Definitely one of our favorites of the day (we visited 4 that day)! We will definitely be back. read more

Price range: moderate to high To consider: a few free parking spots, but hope you get lucky. Wait time: usually not too busy, mostly people browsing. Wait time should be -2 minutes. Shoutout(s): to the decor. It's a really nice vibe inside. There is tons of old vinyl records to choose from! Location review: it's great! Midtown has a lot of hipsters. This store just adds to that midtown magic. There is so many cool shopping variety around this store. Service: great! The owner was happy to chat artists, music, and his thoughts on the vinyl market as a whole. Expectations: I expected them to have a few more Michael Jackson, Kanye West, and newer vinyls, but not much. They have tons of random music from artists I have never herd of. Maybe you'll have better luck LOL. Improvements: lower the price by maybe a buck. Maybe try a discount day, or BOGO offer to really drive traffic to the store. Last words: thank you'd. Thanks for opening up a cool shop to take pictures, shop vinyls, and meet folks that are also into trendy cool things. read more

Rocket Records is my favorite record store in all of Sacramento! The vibe is cozy and unmatched! Augie knows so many music facts that you'd have to be wild and crazy to not want to talk to him. He's also a very pleasant fellow. Looking for a dollar bin? He's got one. Seeking a music-filled experience while hunting through the bins? This is the place! All this plus the best King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard selection around! read more

Great place to buy records and CDS. A very inviting and comfortable vibe for searching for your favorite record. The proprietor Augie is very approachable and knowledgeable and most of all he's "Puro Gente" ! Added bonus an amazing coffee shop right next door "Balance". read more

Augie is the best, through and through. The wife and I have been making it a habit to go see him almost every weekend since we discovered Rocket Records back in January. He orders and holds stuff for me constantly, and even though I vow to be mindful of what I spend while I'm in there, Augie always has some gems that I can not pass up. Fair prices, great quality cleaner used selection, and the best customer service in Sacramento! read more

A recent review said this: "it's great! Midtown has a lot of hipsters. This store just adds to that midtown magic." This is actually a turn off for me. I've been there twice and given it's location it's going to pull in Crosley types or folks who shop for album cover art and don't own a set up. No judgment there, the store serves its purpose and they are definitely catering to their neighborhood. Just not for me. It's also pretty small. So you get 5 people in there and it gets tight. On the positive through it is a nice little store in terms of decor. read more

Very small selection of vinyl records. The staff were very pretentious and rude. Act like they know it all. Not friendly and hard to talk to. Will not be coming here again. read more

"I get by because of the people who make a special effort to shop here - mostly young men - who spend all their time looking for deleted Smith singles and original, not re-released - underlined - Frank Zappa albums. Fetish properties are not unlike porn. I'd feel guilty taking their money, if I wasn't... well... kinda one of them." - Rob Gordon, High Fidelity That quote appropriately sums up my experience at most record shops, and the newly-opened Rocket Records is no exception. Record stores are a haven for music junkies of all stripes, but particularly those who like the warm throwback sound of vinyl. I found the selection here to be solid compared to other tiny shops around town. Since they are new and were unboxing records when I popped in, I assume that selection will only expand. I collect a lot of reggae records and found that selection minimal, but the classic rock and country were on point. Never did I feel rushed or pressured to buy. Just open your mind and your ears, start thumbing through the vinyl and enjoy the ride. read more

i decided to do a record shop tour today. of the four places i went, rocket was probably my favorite! had a fun convo with the person behind the counter, he was super friendly ... nice customer service. selection is outstanding ... there's something for everyone! i picked up sting & world party ... both for $15. now that's the kind of pricing i like seeing in places like this. new releases prices are about what you'd expect ... a tad more than you can get online ... but hey ... support local when you can! this place has all the old-school crate-digging vibes i dig, location is great (easy parking, no meters!) ... i'm 100% positive i'll be back there whenever i'm in the area! read more

Really cool store. Good variety not a lot of junk and filler actual music you'd want to buy.

After getting back into vinyl I decided to check this place out since it's so close to work. I really like this shop, they're taking Covid-19 seriously and enforce precautions that make me less anxious about flipping through stuff that's been handled by other people. Their inventory is nice and they add stuff to their shelves every day it seems. The prices are really reasonable compared to what I've seen at other places. They also have a "New Arrivals" section that always has something new that wasn't there the day before. For anyone wondering, they have a pretty good selection of CD's and tapes. read more

Good vibe in the store, friendly owner, nicely decorated and wide selections of hard to find/rare vinyl. Prices are reasonable and Midtown Sac location make the visit worthwhile. Picked up a number of 12" dance vinyl; Lime, Donna Summer, Free Style, etc. Will definitely come back.... read more

George Duke, Christopher Cross, Tommy and the Shondells were all records I had on my list; Rocket helped me check off those items and grow my eclectic collection for not a lot of duckets. Records were in great condition for being several decades old as well as the covers and sleeves. Located in a hip part of mid-town, I feel lucky to have come across this gem of business. I visited pre-pandemic and trust that it's still going strong. I chatted up the owner briefly, and you could tell the passion he has for vinyl. Many genres are represented here, mostly skewed towards classic rock and 80's with a sprinkling of funk. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. read more

Walked in and was reminded on how I felt when I walked into my first record store in the early 80's. Was the scent of used books vinyl records and well thumb threw album covers.....of coarse this place is small but its unique in its own way! They buy and sell used movies CDs Records....etc. The owners son said they have been open for two months so there :) check it out if music and old memories are your thing, they even have a few cassettes and 8 track tapes! read more

This place was amazing. I never heard of this until I googled alternates because the iconic Records on Broadway shut down in December. Found this place on yelp so I thought I should give it a try. AMAZING PLACE!!! Specifically came for Prince records and found the legendary Black Album AND the out of print Emancipation album on cassette. No way I could afford these but I just may splurge one day if I keep seeing them on my many future visits. Could spend the whole day here. Old music magazines for sale as well. Definitely a plus. read more

Sweet records store right off the freeway in West Sacramento. Picked up some dope, excellently priced 45's, a Madonna "Like a Prayer" 12" and a sweet Rocket Records shirt all for less than $20. Great record store! Augie the owner is super friendly. Every time I was searching for hard to find vinyl I found it here!

Small shop & very well organized. Lots of strange 70s stuff & less known titles from well known artists. Both my wife & I had a nice time reminiscing about music from when we were kids. Bought some Carole King & Carly Simon. Everything was priced appropriately (or low) with some gems lurking. Friendly staff playing interesting stuff. A high recommendation from me! read more
