A little history. I was an AV8B Harrier powerplant mechanic, troubleshooter and inspector. I moved to Humboldt afterwards and I wanted to get my 4x4 tricked out but I didn't have the opportunity to do it myself.
My brother pushed me to take it to his friend Cory and claimed they knew what they were doing. The work and level of knowledge was sub par and they are horribly unprofessional. A couple of the mechanics were alright but the management is a joke.
Numerous problem of incompetence and complete ignorance about how machines work.
For example:
They installed ARB lockers and when I took the truck out to test them, every time I drove over any bump bigger than a shoe box the locker would disengage. I took it back. They looked it over and said it was fine. I tested it again and it was still not working. I went back and this time the owner Cory and his completely mechanically illiterate friends talked down to me and tried to mock me for attempting to educate them on how to troubleshoot and fix a simple problem like that. As I walked away his stoner loser friends were laughing at me like I was the ignorant one, never mind that I was a certified aviation machinists mate who studied at NAS Pensacola where NASA does tests and takes classes. So, I let it go and didn't sink to the levels of these small town fools. My truck sat there and they didn't fix it. I went to talk with them again and they acted like I didn't know how to work a switch to turn it on. They thought it was a joke and laughed it up. They refused to take it seriously.
I had to take the truck and take video of it not working to show them, that is how arrogant and incompetent these guys were. Again they tried to make fun of me when I took the truck back. I came back a couple days later and it was just the owner and the mechanic. Gone were the inbred looking simpletons that hung out there and acted as if they were some mechanical gurus and their tone was serious and professional. They told me they found what was wrong and showed it to me. The air line to the differential was installed incorrectly and whenever the axle articulated, the pressure would bleed out and the locker would disengage.
This shows you that in order for these guys to be professional they have to screw up first. This is evidence that they are amateur hour and have little to no technical ability, just small town chop shop shade tree mechanics. I don't blame the mechanics. I blame the management.
This is only one of several embarrassing displays of incompetence, but it would take too long to list all of them so I will only give two more.
1.They routed a hydraulic steering line INSIDE the wheel well right next to the front tire so it would rub it and catch on the knobs when turning and hitting bumps; never mind sticks catching it and ripping it out.
2.The engine idled irregularly from sitting for years. Instead of troubleshooting like any knowledgeable mechanic would, they played shotgun R&R instead of learning what can cause that. I came back and they had changed the mass air flow sensor which is a box, without asking me, on the basis that someone had opened it before. They could tell because the sealant was not factory. Well they were correct. A guy I knew who also is a licensed aviation technician and a mechanical genius if I've ever known one did it when he owned the truck before me. When I tried to correct them they acted again like I was the know nothing and they were the experts. These guys are a joke.
So, even though I paid them a lot, and I mean A LOT of money they couldn't even fix what took me about two hours to figure out and fix myself, and I am disabled. I researched it and found out it was because of corrosion and coagulated coolant valve attached to the firewall.
I tried to educate them but they were intent on staying ignorant due to complete arrogance. If I had no real technical knowledge and an experienced aviation mechanic tried to educate me I would listen. But not these guys. They knew it all from working in their own garage.
They never finished the truck and they never would because they thought it was finished, or good enough. The management at Rock Solid 4x4 breeds incompetence even if a couple of the mechanics were decent and willing to learn, the management allows incompetent and unfinished work to be pushed as if its finished and working as intended. I realized if I kept taking it back it would do no good and I would just have to listen to these ignorant and scientifically illiterate hacks talk down to me out of complete ignorance.
Never take your vehicle here if you care about attention to detail, professionalism, or just good old fashioned getting the job done right. Sad considering how simple automobiles are, that these guys ruined their own reputation and it's all the fault of management. read more
