Many tables have views of the water

We visited 3 times on our trip to Salt Spring Island. Not expecting good eats from the only restaurant in town (Ganges, about 10 miles north, has them all) and usually ones by the water use their location to cut quality. But Rock Salt happily bucks the trend. Tuna melt had good flavor. Salads and bowls are large and fresh. Albacore tuna was perfectly seared on all sides and rare in the middle. Sangria was watery, I wouldn't get that again. Really good IPA on tap (but there was only one, along with a larger, a pilsner, and a porter) and ice cold in a chilled glass. Really hit the spot as we came during a heat wave (over 80 degrees F). Location right next to the car ferry lets you park in the ferry line, walk over and grab a quick bite, and then come back to your car in time. Our server was a pro and able to accommodate us with the timing.

The food and drinks here are fabulous, but the wait time to get in and service tending to those waiting is largely lacking. I found that people didn't even acknowledge you were there waiting for a table unless you went up to the coffee bar area to ask.. which I did. Luckily, as long as you are there before closing, they will seat and serve you, which is nice. Anyways, came here on my birthday and after a bit of a wait, was finally seated at a nice window seat. We got some nice wines and cider and some wings to start, all of which were delicious. We got the wings with salt and pepper and the buffalo sauce on the side per the recommendation of our waitress, which was a good call! Loved the salad and the dressing on the side which helped to balance everything else out. Salmon sandwich with yam fries were delicous and perfect. And the Tuk tuk bowl reminded me a little of a vermicelli bowl except with rice vs rice noodles and curry/seafood. The mussles and shrimp curry was so so good and fresh. Loved every bite of this and would definitely order again!

What a great little place! We arrived just as the ferry was leaving so got a seat right away. I had the most delicious curry bowl with mussels and prawns and a tasty Moscow Mule. My husband had a fabulous tuna melt with tomato feta soup and a rhubarb cider. The setting and space are lovely and the service was excellent. We got a lovely little pumpkin tart to go with our Thanksgiving dinner later.

You may spot a few horses during your dinner! The seafood chowder was highly recommended so I had that as my entree. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. There were jumbo prawns, fish, mussels and clams. I enjoyed the taste of the broth as well. For dessert, they had a special Japanese style cheesecake which was light and fluffy and accompanied with ice cream, a sprinkle of nuts, and edible flowers. Great friendly service as well!

The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, and Anita in particular was awesome. We asked for recommendations and Anita recommended the Seafood Chowder to start which was to die for!!! Best one my Gf and I have ever had anywhere.. For the main dishes we had the Rack of Lamb, and the Beef Bourguignon and both very delicious and very tender. The owner Roxanne and Stephan came by and mingled with everyone and I have to say are incredible hosts and have done an amazing job with the place and the staff. Did I mention they have a 3-Michelin Star Chef?!! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place to any and everyone to stay, relax, enjoy great dining and unwind. Michael and Teresa:)

Having made reservations beforehand, we were really excited to try this place out. The servers who greeted us were really nice. The restaurant had a beautiful dark interior that gave off a cozy steakhouse vibe. They even offered to take my coat, how nice of them! Despite the hospitality, the food did not really live up to expectations. I got the birria, and while it was okay, it definitely wasn't worth the price I paid. My girlfriend's scallop crudel was almost as pricey and it did not even fill her up. I believe the bill for our whole meal (including a mocktail) was over $80. This was definitely not worth the price point paid for, considering that we were not fully satisfied with that meal. Regardless, many thanks to the Monti staff for having us.

Great decor and service, but the meal really distinguished itself…read more First course was a fennel shaved salad with exceptional flavor - don't be dissuaded by the reference to anchovy dressing - it works magnificently and nothing overpowers. The chicken liver with summer tomatoes was magnificent, even if they needed an extra slice of sourdough to finish the plate. The star was the roasted pork belly. I've had many in my day but this was the crown jewel of belly's - succulent, tender inside and crispy edges, and the flavor was off the chart delicious. Rigatoni with lamb did not disappoint and pasta was cooked to perfection. Saved room for chocolate mousse and it was excellent and not too sweet. Wine pairings supported the wonderful meal. I look forward to returning and trying all the dishes we didn't select. This place has it over Rosario and Madrona. Your wallet will be lighter but not unreasonably so.
