I didn't expect that I would use Rock Roofing when I started to look for a roofer, neither did I expect that Rock Roofing was beyond excellence! We started to experience granule loss on our roof that was installed in late 2005. That roof came with a 30-year warranty, but it didn't survive more than 18 years. I wanted to file a warranty claim, but the manufacturer required me to pull out a shingle as a sample, which I hesitated to do so. I don't know any lay person would be willing to pull out a shingle with some simple instructions. Even most handymen I talked to hesitated to take on such a job. When I was still figuring out what to do with the roof warranty, a big storm came to accelerate my re-roofing project. We got a leak on the roof, and the water came into our attic, and then our master closet. Yikes! I realized that I had to re-roof as soon as possible, so I decided to hire a roofer who could help me with the warranty claim. I got some recommendations from my neighbors, colleagues, and friends, and I started to call around. Rock Roofing wasn't on the list of the recommendations. However, because of that big storm, one highly recommended roofer declined to come to give me an estimate as they had got too much work, so they referred me to Rock Roofing. Colt at Rock Roofing was amazing. When I explained to him what I needed to file a warranty claim, he just volunteered to help without getting my promise to sign the contract. He then went ahead to pull out a shingle for me, and he also tarped the roof to protect my roof from the rain. When he was measuring my roof, he was able to identify the leak and just repaired on that spot. To be honest, when he told me that he had fixed the leak, I was skeptical. I also had other roofers come to give me estimates, but most of them couldn't even tell what caused the leak, so how could Colt identify the cause and fix easily?! It turned out that he did fix the leak. Before he came, we had a funnel system to direct the water from the roof to a big barrel. We always got lots of rain in the barrel. Since he came, we didn't get any more water in the barrel. Colt also helped me take many necessary photos for the warranty claim. Because my old roofing contract didn't specify the size of the roof, and the aerial roofing measurement didn't work due to the surrounding tall trees, Colt drew a roof sketch with detailed measurements for me to present to the manufacturer, who accepted the sketch and processed my warranty claim. He even did all these things during his vacation time. I really appreciated his assistances and efforts. I got total 4 bids for my roof. By comparing the same materials, Rock Roofing's price was the lowest. I normally don't take the lowest bid, because sometimes low bid just means low quality of work or poor customer services. I reviewed the contract closely and asked many questions. Colt was very patient with me, and he responded to my questions quickly. His explanation was very clear and easy to understand. Later I came to Yelp and realized that Colt had been highly praised in many reviews. Therefore, I decided to move forward with Rock Roofing. During the roofing process, the workers arrived on time and cleaned up after work. The work was completed on schedule. The next day after the work complete, one Rock Roofing staff came to do a thorough clean up, including the moss on my driveway. Colt came to walk me through the work to make sure that I was satisfied with every detail, and he also explained to me how the roofing system worked. Had Rock Roofing in Bothell, WA. do a roof on my home. Went out to see nails had penetrated through ALL of my eaves by 1/2 inches. Porch area looks terrible. The nails broke and chipped wood out along with nail points. Horrible ! Have me a bunch of BS about a clause in the contract about " what could happen ". So unprofessional. Great bid process. Rob was great and quite responsive. Stopped by my work in Lynnwood a few times with samples and guotes. The bid was aggressive and allowed us to upgrade the shingles to a higher grade. We also purchased the special ridge venting system, new argon filled skylights, new gutters and downspouts and a leaf guard system for the gutters. Finally the installation was at hand. The setup could have been a bit better. There was no communication and they plopped a giant dumpster right in front of a garage bay we use for one of our vehicles. The roofing materials were dumped on the driveway right behind the RV making it inaccessible. Not a huge deal but an inconvenience that could have easily been avoided. The roofing crew did a great job. They had the roof stripped, and the new one installed in about three days. My wife was impressed at how hard these guys work. She made them a big batch of cookies and served them milk and cookies on their last day. The gutter grew arrived the following week. I'd advised them I wanted the upper roof downspouts extended to the lower roof gutters instead of having the discharge flow over the lower roofs. The reason I requested this was because my previous roof suffered because of so much water flowing over the lower roofs from the upper roofs. I did not want the same premature deterioration to happen to my new roof. They accommodated this request, but I wasn't very happy with what looked to me like a sub-par result. They had extended the downspout on the short side so they had to cram the downspout into the gutter, bending the edges of my new shingles in the process. Also, the one of the downspouts was several inches off the roof which did not look aesthetically pleasing or professional. I suggested an A/B transition elbow would be a better choice to allow the downspout to lay flat on the roof, and give it more clearance where it discharges into the gutter. After about a week, they finally finished the job and installed the gutter covers. One downspout is still several inches off the roof, but since I have complained about it twice and it remains an issue, I will just fix it myself. I was charged an extra $125.00 for "custom" downspout elbows on a $26,000.00 roof. I found the transition elbows for $5 each at Gutterworks, an online roofing supply outlet, so I think it was kind of petty they felt the need to pass that cost on to me. We still ended up with a great roof for a very good price. The issues are actually quite minor, and I can fix those myself. I've learned in my research that most roofing companies are very similar. They use the same suppliers, same labor pool, and even the same products. It's really the "little things" that make the difference between a good company and a great one I believe. They were one of several roofers that I had come to take a look at my roof. Colt was the only one to remind me that my roof likely needs to be replaced in 5-7 years as it was just past its midway point. He pointed out to me several ways to tell and was incredibly knowledgeable. Originally I had him come give an estimate for installing a new ridge vent but he said that since I was going to have to replace the roof, it wasn't worth the cost (vs installing new exhaust vents) given what I was trying to solve for. I really appreciated his experience and judgement. For that I am happy to give a glowing review for his repair work, and very likely will use his company for whenever I need to replace the full set of shingles. I am writing this review upon observation of my 85 year old neighbor. Mildred was in a panic from a leak coming in through her 30 year old roof. She had a had a few roofing companies come out and bid the roof. All of which couldnt get to the replacement for a few weeks (understandable) mean while her drywall was dripping! They all offered to tarp the roof but at the cost of $1000-2000!!! Colt was the only who even bothered to get up there then took the nice shirt off and to my surprise put on his tool bags then tarped the home at no cost because he had "some free time". We hired Rock Roofing to re-roof our house in 2019. The day after they finished our chimney started leaking. Both the owner and lead worker came out to look, but neither of them could figure out what was wrong. Our mason ended up determining it was some damage to the counter flashing, which was excluded in their contract. We put an addition on the house this year and called them for an estimate to roof that and tie in the new roof to the old roof. They never returned my calls or emails, and never came out to look or provide an estimate. We found another roofing company for that job, and when doing the tie-in for the addition found that Rock Roofing improperly installed the underlayment. They told me that because the roof was a low-pitch, 3:12, the shingle manufacturer Certainteed requires a double layer of underlayment which they did not do. read more

Rock roofing has done an amazing job on my roof. We have an old home in bridle trails with a cedar shake roof. We started having leak and Rock Roofing was recommended to us by our roof cleaner. Since the new roof was installed, we have had a leak in our family room that will require thousands to repair. Rock Roofing claimed the leak is the result of repairs needed to the chimney, however it didn't leak before the new roof was installed and Rock never pointed out a problem when they installed the roof. We had a couple of chimney contractors come out to make repairs to the chimney. Those contractors stated the roofer did not do an adequate of sealing the roof around the chimney. We'll need to hire another contractor to fix that as well. I suggest using another contractor for replacing your roof. read more
