She is incredible at blowouts. My hair is curly but I always straighten it. She got it straight with just a hairdryer. No flat iron. My go to hairstylists can't even get it this straight. I've found a new girl to add to my blowout list. If you have difficult hair or just love blowouts like I do, Tristen is excellent.

After my stylist retired, I started going to Mallory, another fabulous stylist here, and I couldn't be more pleased with my haircuts and the attention to my haircare needs. The salon is clean and attractive, with good spacing between chairs -- which has been important to me during the pandemic. The front desk is also pleasant and efficient, and great about scheduling or rescheduling when I call. Another bonus: The parking at Bianchi's is free and convenient -- which you can't say about many Royal Oak businesses!

Holly cut my husband's hair. She seemed nice, was chatty at the beginning and end and concentrated during the cut. The wash and cut took about 30 minutes. It also cost $30. Tips have to to be given in cash, rather annoying since I am not one to ever carry around cash and don't want to be paying $3 to use an ATM machine, which is ornamental, as it does not work. The top was nicely trimmed. I did have to clean the sideburn on his left cheek and around his ears on the right side of too. The attention to detail needs a bit of work.

I was in between salons and find it hard to get a stylist without the big ego garbage where they do what they want to your hair or they don't give a shit and rush through. Even worse is if the salon is expensive and they do that = not worth my hard earned $$ - - Not here! Ella was an incredible stylist and not only was she so kind and fun with my mom who's handicapped (I find people look down upon her and it gets frustrating) she did such a good job on my mom that my whole family was impressed! She took my mom as a walk in which never happens! Then she booked me the next day and knew her stuff about color choices with my complexion. She was very confident about the tones and matched exactly what I wanted! Also she's super sassy and fun - we will be back

I'm writing this review without ever having had any hair services performed at Black the Salon…read more This is simply a review of their character, particularly from the manager Mary. Last night my friend and I went to dinner at Iron Horse before going to the Royal Oak theater. Having purchased online tickets in the past, I did not pay attention to the email that said in bold letters "must print tickets to attend". With 15 minutes before showtime, we were in downtown Royal Oak without a printer and had no idea what to do. Black the Salon shares a corridor with Iron Horse, so just on a whim I went next door and explained my predicament to a staff member who promptly referred me to Mary. Without hesitation and with several customers in the salon, Mary took time out of her evening to print my tickets and save the day. She is a rockstar and her staff was equally as welcoming. I'm not sure how well they cut, color, or style hair, but I will definitely be booking my next appointment for salon services with Black because if their talents behind the chair are half as good as their talents in front of it... I know I'll look and feel amazing when I walk out.

I've given Black three shots now because my husband liked it. My first haircut was pretty good, no complaints. The next visit...I decided to get some color done and made an appointment with a different stylist just based on available times. I got a call an hour before my appointment letting me know the stylist was running behind about 10 minutes. No problem. I thought that was very courteous. So I arrived a few minutes late as told, only the stylist wasn't even at work yet. I waited another half an hour for her to show up. I was worried about the appointment going over, but received no apologies when she arrived. The icing on the cake was that the color didn't even take. The stylist didn't charge me for the appointment, which was the one grace of the day. But I wasted 3 hours and still had to make another appointment. And right now, I am sitting at the salon AGAIN waiting for a third stylist, who is also now over half an hour late to work. Now, there's bad luck and there's bad service, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting equal doses at this salon. Customer service just doesn't seem high priority. I'll think about revisiting my star rating after she redoes my color today, but I already feel stupid for even sitting here.

I have very long, thick hair and I am very specific about how I like my color done and blowouts. The problem I was having with every hair stylist was their ego. He is very talented. He does not over-book and rush your appointment like the rest all do. He has kept my hair in good health as well. It was a bit damaged when I came to him and he brought my long locks back to healthy shiny locks without having to chop it off. He is also very reasonably priced especially for the time he takes on my visits. I am so grateful to have found him. He is a true artist. You will not be disappointed with his work.
