We ourselves are a licensed moving company. During the summer there are more than a few smaller jobs that we cannot complete in the Rochester area because I refuse to over book our days. Most moving companies will over book each day, and if someone does not cancel then there will be a customer out of a mover. Myself typically I get 2-3 calls a day from customers who had movers cancel on them because they over booked. We schedule our days appropriately to give more than enough time for each customers move and refuse to overbook. If I do not have space to book a new customer in from the Rochester area I always refer these jobs to Dave the owner of Rochester Moving and Storage. He in return has referred us to moving jobs out of his area or is too booked to add another job in. Each and every referral I have given Dave I have had the customer call me back and thank me for the referral. Dave the owner is a very likeable and honest person. Being in the moving business typically movers get very competitive and have no working relationship with each other. While this is a long review, I feel it is important to let people know the full story of the move that we just endured. Dave Conkey took a day that should have been made simple by our hiring his service, and turned it into a day from hell for my family and I. Dave came for the estimate appointment on time and was kind and courteous. He thoroughly checked my house and wrote me an estimate to move all furniture, boxes, and our outdoor items (two patio sets, deck box, etc.). The estimate seemed reasonable - so reasonable I asked a few times if it included everything. He assured me that it did. He also stated that he would be there for at least part of the day of the move to ensure that everything would run smoothly. When I called to book his service, I asked in that conversation what size storage unit would be appropriate for our belongings, since we couldn't move into our new place yet - he recommended a 10x20. I couldn't find a 10x20, so I asked if 2 10x10 units would be large enough and he said yes. Dave called the morning of the move to let me know that they should be there around 12-12:30. I called at noon to confirm and he said they'd be there by 1 with no issue. This is where the lies begin. The movers arrived at my home at 2:30 - over an hour and a half late. They met my husband there and started loading. The moving team was great - 7 guys and one large truck. They worked diligently and carefully and loaded the truck as full as possible. I have no complaints about his team - they were great guys who did a great job with the assignment they were given. After the loading was complete, our garage was completely FULL with no room on the truck. In addition, we needed a THIRD 10x10 unit PLUS a family member's garage to store all of our belongings. The job had obviously been completely underestimated by Dave. When my husband called him, Dave said basically "oh well", and that his guys could come back to the house for a second load and trip, but we'd have to pay full price. He did offer to stop the clock after the storage units were loaded in Bergen and not charge us the .25 hour for the trip back to Irondequoit. It would have cost approximately $500 more to have the movers come back and do another load, so we declined. We then ended up moving the remaining belongings ourselves that night (until 2:30 a.m.). The estimate that Dave gave me was GROSSLY under what we ended up actually needing. In addition to the one truck that the movers loaded and unloaded, it took 8 hours and THREE trips with a full trailer, minivan, large pickup truck, and car to move all that was left over. I called Dave that night to express my frustration with the way things had gone. If he had apologized, you wouldn't be reading this review. Instead, he was unsympathetic and took no responsibility for his completely inaccurate quote. He said "I told you plus or minus" - I told him that I did not take that to mean +/- $500! He repeatedly said "you know, a truck can only fit so much", and said we really needed 2 trucks for the amount of stuff that we had. I told him that it would have been nice to know that in May and he said "It's the busiest season, we wouldn't have had two trucks." I wish I'd had all of that information before having to make a choice in movers! Anyone can offer a reasonable quote if it does not take into account all of your belongings. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Dave will likely write you a fantastic quote, but he has absolutely no clue how to estimate a move, and you will end up either paying more or doing the rest yourself. A day that should have been made relaxing by using paid movers was filled with stress and ended with my family moving a quarter of our belongings with no moving truck at the very last second. Save yourself the trouble and go with a different company. read more

Moving can be a very stressful experience and if you're in a city where you don't know anyone, or aren't familiar with it, it can be d daunting. Dave gave me a fair estimate price for packing and moving. He helped me figuring out a storage facility (size, proximity to avoid increase in cost, as well as ease of moving items into storage unit). The came Ellen, who provided a clear estimate of the cost of packing and was able to scheduled it very quickly. Packing team, Carol and Debbie arrived on time and quickly went to work and completed the tasks as it had been estimated. They were friendly, caring and funny, got more than a few laughs without missing a bit with there task. The next day, moving crew of 5 men arrived and quickly proceeded to move items into the truck always being careful, just once one of the men dropped a suitcase and Dave immediately took notice when I informed him that there were framed pictures in the suitcase but that I would not be able to open and check for a while. They quickly completed the loading of the truck. At the storage center, they moved quickly but allowed me to create an inventory of everything as it was moved into the storage unit. The price was close to the estimate given. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend Rochester Moving and Storage. Good work ethics and reasonable price. read more

Our family used Rochester Moving and Storage to move across state this past summer. Dave came out and gave us fair estimate and was easy to work with on a moving date when our closing was pushed back. The team showed up on time and finished early. They were hard working, respectful of our property, and experienced packers. Only one truck was needed. Since we were moving across state, Dave was good enough to send out a minimal team and hired some local movers to fill out the unloading compliment, which saved us money. Also, they don't load your belongings on the truck with anyone else's, which was a big relief. The day of delivery, the team showed up on time and again provided excellent work, and were done upon the estimated time. While we are still unpacking, we've yet to discover anything missing or destroyed, nor do we expect to. I had a number of awkward moves to complete in the past 2yrs and have used Dave for all 4 of them. Unlike the reviewer above, I found his estimates fantastically reasonable and we were billed exactly as quoted. The moving team is great and "fast as all get out," without being reckless. My husband and myself are very organized folks so that makes it much easier for movers to estimate and move us in general. I would highly recommend Dave for busy professionals who need a job done fast and well. read more

I just read the review from Kelly G. I can't believe we have a similar story about Rochester Moving and Storage. As I agree, Dave Conkey was pleasant to talk with. The move and my organizational skills couldn't have made for an easier job. Dave came in with a very reasonable estimate. When they were finished, Dave came in for the payment, which he wanted in cash. He gave me the total bill and it was almost $400.00 more than the estimate. I had to make him out a check for the balance. I was so exhausted from the move, that I couldn't argue the cost. I believe his politeness is partially an act. He is calculating in his business and I would never use him again!! read more
