It is a hard cruel world out there! I have had my vision exams& bought my eyeware at Rochester Eye Associates for decades. They have slowly stopped taking a variety of insurances over the years (Market Place health plans, recently Medicare & United Health). So I would pay out of pocket for everything. Finally I said enough of this & went to a chain to buy my glasses. The final bill for my new glasses was $45, & the Optrition says "you have really good insurance, it paid for just about everything". My last pair of glasses at Rochester Eye Associates was $750. read more

They are extremely rude they clean that they're short staffed however, on the day of my appointment, there were people to stand in the office chatting. They asked if you received your yearly flu vaccine. Not sure what that have to do with my eyes contacts have not shipped out yet they say that it's a manufacture issue they do not return phone calls they have no concern over their patients. read more

It is difficult to summarize how completely awful this place is. I go here only because they take my employer's vision plan. The doctor is fine. It's the office staff that are so awful. They are disorganized and rude - they operate by an internal set of rules they require you to understand - and they will not do anything to go out of their way to help you. You're out of town for months due to a family emergency? Too bad. They can only send you one spare set of contact because your prescription has expired. You can't come in for a fitting? Too bad, they can't give you your contacts. You need a copy of your prescription at a distance? Too bad, they can't email that - they can only send it the mail. It is an exhausting experience trying to get an appointment and get your questions answers. Someone needs to train the staff in customer service. I've been going here for a while but I think I'm done. I'd rather pay more for eye care and deal with professionals that put up with this behavior. read more

Don't bother with them. They will cause you so much grief and then deny any wrongdoing. My husband's first language is Spanish. I made it clear when scheduling our first appointment that he would need a Spanish interpreter. We show up and there's no interpreter -- it's not even in his chart. So I have to compensate and interpret the best I can. Next time I check in with the receptionist a few weeks later, it's in his chart that he's Spanish-speaking but his follow-up appointment has no interpreter request filed. They give him the wrong scheduling information and he shows up to his appointment two hours late. At his rescheduled appointment, there is no interpreter, again. They take his debit card and do not tell him how much the appointment will be. When I call to sort it out, I'm told there was no interpreter available (in which case we would have needed to reschedule but there was no communication on their end), and that they don't know the cost of the exams until the codes are run, "but we can give you a range" (a courtesy they did not offer to my husband, who is very confused, and concerned that now they have his debit card information and can do what they want with it.) Our first visit? The reading cards were archaic and racist. Referring to a "barbarian race from the tropics," which is a slap in the face to my family. I made that known to our eye doctor. We were also initially charged a late fee for services we did not receive. We would be receiving those services at our follow-up visits and had confirmed with the office at our first appointment that we would pay when we come back for those exams. After a long hold and much discussion to clear this up with billing, the late fee was dropped. And then... we received another bill for my husband with yet another unnecessary late fee attached. We will be going elsewhere. If you're actively working to be anti-racist, or would rather not be treated like a second-class citizen, avoid this eye dr.s office. They do not care for all patients' interests. read more

I am 76 six years old with spinal arthritis and am slow to move. Also suffer from severe PTSD. I was told I need surgery for cataracts and started having a huge panic attack. I asked the surgeon several questions and was brushed off with oh no worries. I've had 3 children pass away around Christmas when they wanted to do the surgery. anniversaries are hard. I told them several times I can't do it before Christmas. The Dr. never looked me in the eye and refused to acknowledge my illness. Never answered any of my questions and as I felt the panic rise and my heart pounding I left the room. Went to pay the bill and was in full blown panic mode. They have no idea of how to deal with any kind of mental health. I can't go back. I thought the days of ignorance about mental illness had changed. Not in this office. read more

I appeciate that Rochester Eye Associates (REA) uses an online system to manage records. Filling out multi-page blank forms on a balanced clipboard - providing information already gathered in earlier appointments is a pet peeve. My preference is to schedule appointments early in the day. When successful, the full exam takes about 45 minutes. I appreciated the technician's matter-of-fact approach - repeating instructions without attitude or judgement, explaining the impact of random movement on the tests being run. The offices are spotless. The technicians take care to wipe down equipment immediately. With an early appointment, I waited only a minute or two between technician procedures and doctor's exam. Dr. Albert explains each procedure, what she is looking for, and the findings in real time. She shares a comparison to previous exams as warranted. Best of all, she has read your chart and comments before entering the exam room. She treats me as a partner in my health rather than distancing herself. Dr. Albert backs this with expertise, perspective, and language the layperson can understand. She treated the technician with respect - introducing her and explaining her role during the doctor's portion of the exam. Dr. Albert takes the time to explain symptoms of degenerative conditions that might impact vision going forward - emphasizing when it would be appropriate to schedule between annual exams. No panic, no fuss, no talking over or ignoring my comments and questions. She does ask about and listens to exchange over well being. A sense of proper friendliness mixed with professional, efficient services. There is no pressure to use the in-house eyewear services. I highly recommend this efficient, pleasant experience for annual exams. (I have no experience with needing surgery, procedures or medications from REA.) read more

I had been to Rochester Eye Associates before without problems but this time was entirely different. I had my first appointment the first week of July, They did not have samples for me to try the new prescription. It took 10 business days to get the samples which I had to pick up from their office. The prescription wasn't right so I made another appointment, got another prescription, and waited for samples again. This prescription was even farther off than the first. I went in for another consultation and exam got another prescription and I am still waiting for samples. I just received a message from a very rude person stating they don't have samples to try so I am just going to have to wait. It is now nearly October and I have been waiting since the first of July. It does not seem to occur to them that I need contacts or glasses to drive and to work. I would not recommend them to anyone read more

I switched to Rochester Eye Associates several years ago when my solo practitioner Eye Doctor left the area. I think I was spoiled going to a solo practitioner because I definitely notice the difference. I have no complaints, but there is no real personal service. I am clearly a #. Two weeks ago for my annual exam, check in clerk was polite and quick to get me registered, tech who roomed me was nice enough, but no small talk or pleasantries, Dr. who came in 20 minutes or so later after eyes were dilated was pretty much the same, no small talk, how have you been, enjoying the Summer etc, just down to business and then bam, here's a script if you want new glasses. Location is great in Brighton as it's in the Top Plaza so centrally located, they are nice enough, just no personal service. Would recommend if you need an eye doctor. read more

Went for a vision concern. Dr Ferri diagnosed me with dry eye (said they were seeing so many people with it due to masks being worn). Told me to put drops in moisturize. Called two weeks later and it was getting worse. Person on the phone said I needed preservative free drops, which wasn't told to me by the doctor. Two weeks later the problem was still worse. Saw her again and she said it was the same and to give it time. Gave it another two weeks and called. She wasn't there so they had me see a colleague. He didn't even examine me and said that it was dry eye because she said it was. It was so bad I went to another eye doctor and just by looking in the back of my eye during her routine exam, she immediately knew it was a serious problem and not dry eye. My eyes have permanent damage because of her obstinacy and refusal to believe she could be wrong. And her colleague didn't take me seriously and didn't even examine me to see if there was a different issue. Will never recommend them or forgive them for causing me to almost lose my sight!! read more

The service at Rochester eye associates has become that bad!!! Dr Grant dies not respond to problems or requests when you write a letter. It is ignored. Dawn has completely messed up my eye drop order and I've been waiting about 2 months or more and spend entire days calling them repeatedly. They have no idea what's going on. They finally gave me a tracker number when I had to call again because they do not return calls and the tracker number us for UPS. UPS does not deliver to P.O. boxes! The post office never received my eye drops and I have severe dry eye and can't see well without drops. When I called several times for Dawn, strangers called me back and have not a clue! When Dawn finally called me she gave me bad info. My post office dud not receive my eye drops and UPS dies not deliver to them!! Hours upon hours spent on this with them not being responsible and untold them to have my drops delivered to their office right from the start and in writing! But instead they had them delivered to the moon apparently and aren't doing a damn thing to find them despite my writing a letter to Dr Graby for help! Their service has gone down hill in the past 3 years and its completely unacceptable. Where the hell are my eye drops and why wasn't I told about a new dry eye procedure even when I requested info in writing? Dr Grant cannot be reached by phone or mail. read more

We were forced to start going to Rochester Eye Assoc after my husbands company changed insurance and our current eye dr was then out of network. We had been here many years ago for pediatric eye exams and never had a complaint. It literally took MONTHS to get an eye appointment at this office. Our daughters were heading back to college and needed an exam and contacts before they left and the person I talked to on the phone was like "sorry - that's all we have" - not concerned at all at the multiple month wait time. I feel pretty strongly that they are way over extended and have too many patients to take care of in a timely manner. We have since switched back to our other dr and will just pay out of pocket :-( read more

I have an eye condition that requires surgery and is causing me to lose appetite and sleep. I guess that is not an emergency enough for them. They offered to schedule something 2 months from now. I have been going to this place for over 20 years and they used to be great, unfortunately in the last couple of years they have changed for the worst. They used to be very friendly and they no longer are, the doctors and staff have no compassion and it used to be if you had a urgent problem they would get you in the same day, even coming in after hours if necessary, now they won't do that and couldn't get me in for a urgent problem even during business hours despite the fact that they have hired more doctors than they used to have years ago. read more

In July the office called me to inform me that it has been a year since my last exam..so I made the most resent appointment they had available. I waited 2 months for this appointment. I showed up at 8:30 sharp for my appointment! The RUDE receptionist said "you don't have an appointment". I had to take a vacation day for the appointment that I made 2 months in advance. The RUDE receptionist told me I can wait if I wanted. So I waited over an hour. I finally decided to leave and never go back there again. They could of cared a less that THEY made a MISTAKE and wasted my time and vacation day! read more

I was on the hunt for a new eye doctor and I put off the decision for far too long. This spring I gave Rochester Eye Associates a call and they got me in within the next few weeks for a new patient visit with Dr. Graby. Honestly, everything was great. The staff is pleasant and helpful both on the phone and in person. The office is bright, well decorated and pristine. They offer two locations (Brighton and Greece), and while both are nice I definitely prefer the feel of the Brighton office. The techs were knowledgeable and friendly. They employ quite a bit of new technology in their examinations which was a nice upgrade from the office I went to back home. Dr. Graby was also wonderful, very pleasant to chat with and answered my questions well. The staff helped me out quite a bit and actually figured out I had better eye coverage than I initially thought through my insurance. Overall, I'm glad that I found this office. read more

I went to the Greece location for the first time today after my regular eye doctor would not see me for a swollen eye even though I had been going there for over 10 years. The receptionist was polite and accommodating to me as a new patient. She explained everything for billing and health insurance prior to my visit so I wouldn't be sticker shocked (I have a high deductible plan). The technician was polite and professional and did not judge me for not having a current prescription for my glasses. The doctor was so nice, did the best exam I have ever had and explained everything. I have decided to switch to this practice even though they don't take my insurance. At check out I was pleasantly surprised that I was charged much less than quoted at check in. read more

Have had a terrible experience, just picked up the glasses for the 4th time and they are still useless. Last time I bought my glasses at BJ's but was never quite happy with them so I thought by purchasing them at my eye doctor's office I could get something better. Four times now and the glasses are worse then the ones you can buy at the drug store. (Using drugstore glasses right now to write this.) I was looking for glasses for work, meaning I needed ones that I can use while sitting at a computer and still able to see the paperwork on my desk. (It seems to me that this is typical of so many work places, I don't understand why getting glasses that work should be so difficult.) First visit: everything was completely blurry. The guy tried to insist I "take the glasses home with you to get used to them." I refused, and just kept saying everything is completely blurry. They held onto them for 'adjustment.' Next visit, I go to pick them up, they seem a little better, but when I get to work can't see computer or read. Take them back. The women (every time I went I saw a different person, that can't be a good way to fix a problem.) Third time I again make the mistake of taking them with me, but when I get to work glasses are a mess. It's like trying to see though a fish bowl. There is one tiny area where my sight is clear, everything else is blurry and when I try to look even 1 inch over on my computer screen it's blurry and when I moved my head, all the blurriness made me sick. Couldn't keep the glasses on at all. Finally I call back very upset and frustrated. I said I wanted another exam. I can't even just go to another doctor because health care only pays for 1 visit every 2 years. They call and admit that the first time the glasses were ordered the wrong prescription was written on the card so every subsequent adjustment only made it worse. Really? Why wasn't that checked at the first visit when I told them it was completely wrong? Got another exam. Spent a lot of time with doctor explaining that I need them for work: the computer screen and paper on my desk. She says that the only way to get rid of the "fishbowl" effect is to go with a single vision. (Have slight astigmatism in right eye, and old person reading issues.) We tried looking at her laptop and a magazine on the desk with trial lenses. I thought maybe we were getting somewhere. Pick up the fourth pair, take them to work, they only work for reading. Everything has to be one foot from my face to be clear, everything else blurry. Can't even read the papers on my desk. (Computer screen & papers on my desk are all 2-3 feet away, not 1 foot.) Paid $400 for useless glasses that don't help with anything. Still wearing old glasses. I just don't understand, I can't be the only person in the whole world who needs to work at a desk, and need to see both a computer screen and written papers clearly. Why is this impossible? Don't know if I can stand going back again. read more

Even though the glasses cost a lot more than other places (twice the price at BJ'S), I got my glasses there because of the type of lenses and the coating. I was told you get what you pay for. From the first time I tried them on I noticed that the clearest vision came only when I turned my head and brought what I was looking at into focus. After several weeks of wearing the new glasses, "to let my eyes get used to them", I went back and advised the optician, Shasha, that there was no change. At that point she ordered new glasses, and she told me of changes that were being made, including a change to my prescription (I have not seen the doctor since my initial visit). When I got the "new" glasses the original problem was not as bad, but was still there. At this point, I am tired of telling the same story with the same results. The optician did her best to make the glasses work, but the focus problem is still there. She worked with me for over an hour the first time, and took time when I got the remake lenses. read more
