The name "Zois" is the Greek male equivalent of the female given name "Zoey", but it is also the Greek word for "life". Zois Pizza became well-known for their Greek-style pizza which is cooked in pans. Tzepos' brother Nick also operated pizzerias throughout Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley. The last pizzeria he ran before his retirement was Oxford Pizza Palace, which is currently operated by his son John. Zois Pizza is and has always been a family-run establishment. Zois' son Jim Tzepos has been running the day to day operations since the early 2000s, but Zois still pops in from time to time to make some pies. In addition to the signature Greek-style pan pies, the menu also consists of salads, appetizers, grinders, trays and calzones. I recently stopped in for dinner at Zois Pizza for the first time. I often go to downtown Seymour to see cult film screenings at the Strand Theater. I usually stop at an area restaurant beforehand to grab dinner, so I decided to try out Zois' on my most recent outing. I looked over the menu and decided to order three small pies so I could sample a few different kinds. The three that I ordered were the "Greek" (cheese pizza topped w/ fresh tomato, spinach, feta, garlic & oregano), the "Greek Godfather" (cheese pizza topped w/ sausage & roasted red peppers), and the "Roula Special" (cheese pizza topped w/ chicken, bacon, broccoli & garlic). Although I'm partial to New Haven-style apizza, these Greek-style pan pies were very good. They were full of flavor and had a nice and light, airy crust. At one point, my server checked on me and asked which of the three were my favorite. I told her that I enjoyed all three, but it was the Roula Special that really hit the spot. She responded, "OMG! That's my pizza! I'm Roula!" It turns out that she was Roula Tzepos: Zois' granddaughter! To drink, I enjoyed some cans of New England Brewing's "Fuzzy Baby Ducks" and "Sea Hag" IPAs. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Zois'. I even had some leftovers to bring home for my family to try. If you're looking for a good place to grab dinner in downtown Seymour, then head to Zois'!

There's other negative is that there was nowhere to sit and wait for take out. This might be due to the Christmas tree and decoration but I don't know. So, why 3 stars? The pizza was just ok. They are small (12"), and, yes, less expensive, but just ok. I don't like Parmesan sprinkled on top of my pizza but saw them put it on every pie. This should be a request, not a given. Since I ended up driving on Highland Avenue in Waterbury towards Naugatuck for whatever reason, I decided at that point to make some fruit out of it and come back here, and boy am I glad I did! Today's visit was just as good as the first visit. That says something because during the first visit, there was one person who the order and remarked it was one of their Top 3 pizzas in the state! Honestly, I would not be mad to see this in people's Top 3 pizzas. I grabbed up a white pie with bacon, garlic, and basil (Yes, it is pizza, and if you disagree, then tough). Alongside that, some fried ravioli, garlic bread with cheese, and an order of mozzarella sticks with a Foxon Orange Soda because that's how I like pizzeria meals goddammit! And yes, all of these appetizers ruled! Anything different said will go in one ear and out the other because I ain't hearin' anything different. That ravioli has a nice squeeze after that first bite, crunchy, and the marinara sauce does give it a nice little kick. Garlic bread with cheese is always a winner, and the mozzarella stick is cheesy and delicious. What can I say? Giuseppe's serves up some bangin' out the frame appetizers! And the pizza. Oh the pizza! They make with love and care. One look at my pizza, and you could see how crispy that bacon was. The aroma was SO good that I had to have my first slice before I even started the car to go home. And yes, the pizza was that delicious! I even had my second slice after I parked my car to go home, so a quarter of the pie didn't even make it back to my apartment it was so good. Oh yeah, and while I didn't do it this time, last time I actually had a second person with me who also had a slice of the pizza and they also thought it was delicious. Dine-in or take out you can't go wrong here. Lastly, you can take advantage of some of the specials they have. As of 6/7/2026 (6 7!), Tuesdays and Wednesdays have all-you-can-eat specials if you choose to dine in. Tuesdays you get spaghetti, and Wednesdays it's ziti and garlic bread. On Sundays, you can get a nice lil deal on chicken wings ($1 per wing) and for those it doesn't matter if you dine in or take out. The ziti in particular seems like a great deal because that special is $10.95 (normal menu price is like $22). And speaking of prices, they're very reasonable for 2026. What I got tonight came out to $55.60, and it was a $55.60 that was well-spent. Seriously, this pizzeria is a must-go!
