Large cheese, at Dimitri's Pizza in Watertown, CT.
    Tom D.

1st Timer to Dimitri's Pizza, I ordered a plain, large cheese pie this afternoon. Pizza was ready in 30 minutes, cost me just under $20. I wouldn't say it was typical New Haven style pizza (because there wasn't much char at all), but it was tasty nonetheless. Thin crust, half the slices went down easy for me in my Jeep. Loved the sauce. All in all, a decent pie. Dimitri's is a solid 4 Star rating, IMO.

Medium Mushroom-Onion New Haven Style Pizza - no we could not wait to try their new recipe, hence missing several slices :) Tasty!!!

I was looking forward to having another pizza from Dmitri's after learning that they switched to New Haven-style pizza. Well that day finally came when we ordered takeout recently, and the entire family absolutely enjoyed it. We ordered a large cheese and a medium mushroom-onion pizza--they totally nailed it, and the pizza stands out in its own right among the crowd of restaurants serving NH-style 'apizza' in CT. They managed to get a nice amount of char on the crust, which was perfectly thin with just the right amount of salt and olive oil. There is a nice interplay between the charred crust and small amounts of oil which are crucial in achieving that New Haven taste, IMHO. They went with a nice simple crushed-tomato sauce which did not overpower the pie. I think I also tasted a sharper blend of cheese in addition to the mozzarella, which produced a nice bold flavor. Tasty! Finally, they nailed the droop factor--also critical in a New Haven-style pie. If you pick a piece up, it should have some serious droop, which can then be properly angled to target your mouth by bending the crust edges; when you bite into it you get a nice firm crust coupled with the soft tomato-y and cheese umami layer. I am getting hungry just writing this review. I honestly could not stop eating the pizza, it was that good. Our entire family gives a hearty two thumbs-up, and we all definitely prefer this new recipe (although I also loved their Greek-style pizzas, but always best to simplify a menu). Great job to everyone at Dmitri's! Best of luck and warm wishes to the next generation.

It's hard to find a good pizza! Well I found it. Delicious sauce, fresh toppings. I can't wait to be back in town to order again.

The atmosphere is from my childhood. Welcoming wood paneling, unapologetically antiquated glassware - the small bar where the bartender definitely knew every customer and instantly identified me as new. If you closed your eyes you could smell the smell of historical cigarettes and Chianti (this is a good thing). For the above they receive their only stars. The food was hugely disappointing. Chicken wings were clearly frozen Pierce Wing Dings - salty, bland, thrown on a plate with a plastic cup of bottled blue cheese and carrots from the Reagan administration. But the pizza - CLEARLY - not the "Apizza" as noted on their charmingly old sign - was a cross between frozen airport pizza - and sauceless/tasteless, too thick to be thin crust and too thin to be Greek style - hot bread with greasy cheese. I appreciated the photos of the original owner over the bar. I suspect this was actually a really great place in the 60's, 70's, and 80's under his regime. If in the area, there are 3 other better options with a 5 min drive in any direction.

We got a large half bacon & half pepperoni, as well as some garlic knots. The garlic knots were pretty decent, some crispier than others but that was fine, & brought a side of marinara. In my opinion some real garlic could ve gone a long way into making them more than decent, as the dough itself was good. The pie itself half some flop to it but not to the point where everything fell apart. I personally liked the flavor of the sauce but felt the cheese could've been a bit cheesier & the pizza dough was good. Again, these are my personal opinions, everyone has their own. There's not much parking available at all, I parked on the side of the street; just for reference. The total price was also pretty decent for both items. The ambiance was pretty good & the timing they stated for pick-up was accurate. The service was also nice.

They're a couple of great guys with tremendous hospitality among them but I personally don't care for their food. Pizza was underwhelming and the meatball parm was bland and fell flat. Tiny place with very limited parking along the street. They do a ton of deliveries within this area. The first time I was there they forgot the pepperoni on my pizza. I brought it back for a refund. They immediately said without skipping a beat that they'll remake it for me. I didn't have time on my side that day. They them said that they'd deliver it to me but I wasn't going to be close by and was leaving town. They even mentioned to do some pepperoni and put it in top. I refused that one and said that's jimmy rigging it which is a no no in my book. They ended up refunding me then to remedy this situation. I was happy with that to end up giving them another try at a later time. In not saying the food is bad. I'm only saying that it's not likeable in my opinion. Their service was pretty quick to have the pizza made. No lengthy wait. The decor inside is plain. They were in the middle of a remodel when i was there. They recently took the place over from the original owners who were there for umpteen amounts of years before this. I wish them the best of luck in their future success with this place.

Friendly, attentive, genuinely welcoming staff. The atmosphere was great too. Casual neighborhood pizza spot vibes done right, and bonus points for a private parking lot in Watertown, which is apparently rarer than a perfectly cooked New Haven-style pie north of Route 84. Now, let's discuss the family salad. Fantastic. Fresh, generous, great dressing options, and honestly one of the better salads I've had from a local pizza place in a long time. I would absolutely come back just for that. Unfortunately, the star of the show, the pizza, kind of collapsed under pressure. Literally. We ordered a medium cheese and a medium sausage, both "thin and crispy." What arrived was more "soft and floppy." The sausage itself was excellent. Clearly high quality, nicely seasoned, and probably the best part of the pizza. But the sauce just didn't bring much to the table. Very little flavor, too much cheese, and the whole pie felt heavy instead of balanced. That said, this was one visit, and I'm willing to give any local spot another shot. Next round, I'll order it well done and see if that changes the equation. I really wanted to love it because the people were great and locally owned places deserve support. But on this first visit, in an area absolutely loaded with excellent pizza options, Anthony's doesn't crack my personal top 15. Yet. I'm rooting for the comeback story.
