Sante of Mesa - nice area to hang clothes

    Sante of Mesa

    (72 reviews)

Santé of Mesa is probably the best rehabilitation center in the East Valley. In fact, it is the…read moreonly one I trust. I had visited a friend there several years ago and was impressed with the facility at that time. My mom fell in March, and after a week in the hospital, we had to go to a different rehab facility at first because Santé wasn't on her insurance. However, that place didn't take good care of her, and she ended up with a Stage 4 pressure sore and sepsis, resulting in another, much longer, hospital stay that included three weeks in intensive care. When she was ready for discharge to rehab that second time, Santé was covered by her insurance, so I insisted on going there. We were at Santé for about six weeks, beginning in June. Some have said in other reviews that the décor is "dated," but I disagree. The style is Southwestern, which is quite appropriate for Arizona, and it never goes out of style. The photographs on the walls are of beautiful Arizona scenery, and the rooms are set up like hotel rooms. Santé also has a Starbuck's café and some beautiful outdoor patios where guests can get some fresh air. The food here is much better than most hospitals and rehab facilities provide, and guests can order just about anything they can think of, even if it's not on the regular menu. Each room has its own refrigerator and microwave. Most of the rooms are private, so most guests don't have roommates, but the shared rooms are really semi-private, with each guest in his or her own separate space, and the kitchenette being the only shared area. The physical therapy gym is wonderful, with many different types of equipment for different needs, and the therapists encourage family to get involved in the therapy, which takes place six days per week -- far more and far better than the first place my mom stayed. The wound care nurses took excellent care of my mom's pressure sore. By the time we left, it had filled in far more than I had been told to expect, all thanks to their superior wound care. Everyone was happy to answer questions and help however they could. My mom's case manager, Angie, was very kind and patient, and she gave me lots of information about post-rehab care possibilities. With her help, we were able to get post-rehab assistance that worked best for our situation. I would also like to give special thanks to Nurse May, Physical and Occupational Therapists Cisco and the two Lisas, and especially Speech Therapist Aaron, who went above and beyond for us. I was happy to take my mom home when she was discharged, but I was also sad to leave because the staff all seemed like friends. Most of my mom's allotted rehab time had passed before she was really able to start getting back on her feet, but I'm happy to say that, in continuing at home what I learned while participating in therapy with her at Santé, she's now improved by leaps and bounds and is well on her way to resuming the activities she enjoyed prior to this misadventure. I look forward to bringing her back to see everyone after her recovery is complete. I can't say that there weren't ANY problems, however. One female CNA was changing my mom's brief one morning, and some fecal matter had gotten into her wound. I asked the CNA to make sure she cleaned it out thoroughly, and she tried to tell me that the fecal matter had originated IN the wound, which was impossible in this case. When she finally left the room, I finished cleaning out the wound and asked the wound nurse to double-check that it was clean. This same CNA also used my mom's phone charger to charge her phone without asking, which I found rather presumptuous. The only other problem I experienced was that I always took my mom's laundry home to wash, but I was gone for one full day and night, and during that time, they managed to lose one of her nightgowns. I provided the price of a comparable nightgown for reimbursement, but to date, we have received nothing. Those minor problems aside, the gist of the matter is this: if you or a loved one needs to stay at a rehab facility for physical therapy, I cannot recommend any facility higher than Santé of Mesa.

I felt safe and cared for. Daily physical therapy was instrumental in my 'at home' recovery. I had several nurse visits and physical therapy sessions in my home, which was another layer of recovery care! I'm grateful to be able to do the activities I enjoyed before Osteoarthritis affected my knee and have lost twenty pounds by resuming my activities! Thank you Sante' Mesa!

Background This is a New Hospital for HonorHealth having purchased it from its previous owner's out of bankruptcy. This purchase and their buying Cigna's East valley EverNorth Care locations allowed them to expand their operations from the West Valley and Scottsdale into the East valley. For me as a Cigna patient for four decades it has turned out to be a great healthcare benefit. Facility 5/5 HonorHealth has made some branding changes since my last visit a few years ago but my exposure to the hospital has been limited to the ER during this visit. Office5/5+ The ER was well staffed during the day shift and my wait time was significantly less that the Banner Baywood I normally utilized. Service 5/5+ After intake Triage, I was moved to an individual room within the ER department. Typical as shown in the picture. After pulling my records directly from my HonorHealth superstition springs PCPs office, the ER Physician ordered a number of tests both labs and CT. A team of ER technicians and nurses came in to do their part of my care. I was extremely impressed with their bedside manner and professionalism. I was regularly updated on status and provided hydration throughout. Overall experience 5/5++ I was extremely impressed with how HonorHealth's ER managed my treatment and visit. Based in my records and care management transition from Cigna to HonorHealth and the MyChart app has translated to better outcomes for my health care needs. Be well my friends-SYOY!

My issue is that we were move to multiple different chairs in different room. Initially in our own room, then to another private room with a chair, then to a lobby area with other patients where we all sat in a row with arms touching, then back to a private room with a chair, then discharged. My son was hurting and so sick. The lady next to us was puking from the methadone she received. She was in the ER the night before and back. They were working on checking her in for surgery. I know because I was sitting by here. No privacy of medical information. I also got her pile splatter on my arm. My son had managed to fall asleep in the chair. He has leaned over his arm that had an IV with fluids dripping and started bleeding. When they pulled us back to the last room we were told he had influenza B. I said, so the lady going into surgery was just exposed? And he is hurting. Exposure and health info privacy act violation. The hospital said that all Honor Health hospitals are this way.

The nurse I worked with was VERY unprofessional in his remarks, attitude, & tone toward me. This nurse did not help me with fulfilling patient needs when I specifically ask him. This nurse made a point to tell me 2 times that "ya know, I am a good nurse". Never asked him if he was, this came as responses to asking him for help by grabbing more bleach wipes when I was in full PPE in a room assisting a resident. He never helped me once. This nurse created issues between a patient & myself that did not exist. He would not let me speak. He believed his conclusion. The resident corrected the nurse in his wrongful accusations toward me. Another incident while making rounds, I knocked on a residents door to check on her again. This nurse was angry with me because he was in the room I "disrupted him while talking to the resident". This nurse was very egotistical. I didn't understand why he was so upset with me. I had not done anything wrong. This nurse scolded me again & told me to stay out of this particular patients room that the issue was with. That I'm never to go back in there. I didn't understand why or what happened. A couple minutes later this nurse completely flips out & starts talking VERY loud in the common area where all the residents & their families could hear & see him and loudly said that "he doesn't trust me with any of these residents!" Then this nurse, not a manager, not HR, but this LPN nurse tells me to just leave now & go home that he doesn't trust me, to stay away from all the patients!! Of course it's nearing the end of the 12 hour shift &another CNA had showed up. But everything was ok until he knew he had to cover his lies & get rid of me so the truth wldnt be exposed. He wldnt let me speak or listen to me. He would talk over me or cut me off. I was absolutely shell shocked. This was my1st time working at this facility & I did a stellar job, especially having the limitations of it being a busy holiday shift & many families were visiting. I did my job & I ALWAYS assisted & cared for the residents as if they were my own family. The issue was a nurse that needed to cover himself & the mess he alone created & wasn't going to hear about anything else. He could have simply said he was wrong about what he thought had happened & I would have said it's ok, no big deal, water under the bridge. Now, I am happy to write this truth on the staff & the lies they will create to shift the blame &create scenarios that never happened. The Nursa app has evolved & now we can see the reviews left on our performances. Wellsprings of Gilbert has even left me a negative review about my quality of work. I was very angry at how I was talked to & treated by this nurse during my shift & I expressed that to Wellspring HR. I told them to watch their cameras! The resident did correct the nurse of what he thought happened or said but he didn't want me to speak to that resident again. That's when he flipped out. I am absolutely shocked that their management believe lies over truth. There were so many other incidents that happened with this nurse during my shift I would just shake my head in disbelief & continue doing my job. One that I will note is one resident was new to Wellsprings from the hospital. This resident had a couple incidents that pointed toward having C-Diff. I made the nurse aware & suggested to put a contact precaution on the patient's door so if in-fact she was positive for C-Diff, anyone who entered would know to take the proper precaution & prevent spread as it is highly contagious. I ask the nurse 2 times about doing this. He was angry at my suggestion &said he didn't like me telling him what to do. I told HR about this also. I explained to the nurse and HR I'm only reporting from previous experiences I have had with patients & hoping for protection by taking an extra precaution. This nurse never took a test to send off to see if the resident was positive nor did he put up a contact precaution sign at least until a test could be done to be determined. The resident did have several episodes & symptoms that pointed to C-Diff. I just report what I see. I was met with being scolded with egotistical remarks. Shame on you Wellsprings for turning on me. I brought this to your attention! I am a good, honest, hard working CNA. Yes, I was very angry & said colorful words as adjectives of behaviors I experienced, never direct name calling. I shared my experience with other healthcare management & they all agreed that I should have reported Wellsprings & that nurse to the AZ Board Of Nursing. I regret not doing that. I'm not perfect but I know God saw ALL of it and I can stand before Him blameless in your accusations.

My brother is autistic and requires clear verbal guidance and assistance with paperwork. He went to this facility for an outpatient therapy program but was mistakenly processed into inpatient care. He clearly told the front desk he was there for outpatient therapy and even asked them to confirm. Despite this, staff instructed him to continue filling it out without clarification. What's even more concerning is that his therapist, Eddie who has seen him before continued the intake process without recognizing or correcting the mistake. Meanwhile, staff called my mother saying my brother never showed up for outpatient therapy, causing panic when he wasn't answering his phone. An hour later, they called back to say he had been admitted as an inpatient. My mother asked for an explanation, Eddie eventually said that if my brother is checked out, he would call the police and that he could be placed somewhere worse where we wouldn't be able to find him. That kind of response is completely inappropriate and unacceptable, especially given my brother's condition. We went to the facility in person and asked for a supervisor. He was the only staff member who showed any compassion, but ultimately said there was little he could do beyond reporting the situation. When my mother spoke with the director, she saw nothing wrong with what had happened. There was no accountability, no resolution, and no corrective action. This experience was deeply upsetting and handled with a complete lack of care, communication, and professionalism.
