My daughter called me to tell me that she was going to see a car at Auto Star Motors and her appointment was with Steve. My "Spidey Sense" was tingling and I was on a Star Trek "Red Alert". I did a Google search, followed by some review of the model and make on Kelly Blue Book, then to Car Fax. I was prepared for the showdown. We arrived on time and let Steve finish with his previous appointment. The office is clean, neat, professional looking. We didn't get that sleazy used car dealer feeling which was a positive first impression. The car, a Subaru Crosstrek looked good and we took it for a drive in the chilly December evening. I talked to my daughter and asked what type of down payment was she going to propose. She had a plan but I was still on the defense. So many stories of customers getting screwed from used cars dealers and I have had my own personal experiences with my brother in law right here in Boise. We get back and it's time for 'Let's make a deal' The good news is that the car looked and performed well. The car fax info matched what I saw online earlier and the price was good. My daughter's trade in was on its last two wheels but Steve wanted to check it out and after his test drive, I was thankful he was still alive. He was more than up front and generous with trade in value of her car and she had some cash to put down. While I was feeling a little better about Auto Star Motors and Steve, I wasn't completely convinced. I showed Steve some of the Yelp reviews and I wanted him to provide some context. He was very transparent throughout which I appreciated. It was at that point that I told my daughter that even though I was feeling better about this whole process that she would wait until she had some more money for a down payment. I explained to Steve why I felt that and my overall concern for my daughter. It was at this point that we talked like two Dads sitting at a coffee shop. He was open, genuine and reassuring. Not once did I feel that we were getting bamboozled. I relayed my concerns and trepidations and Steve was receptive and made the efforts to understand my concerns and assured me that my daughter would be taken care of. I went home to get to the title for her jalopy aka death trip and returned back at the office. The financing was done through Capital One and my daughter knows that if she has any issues she can bring the car back to Steve and his team at Auto Star I purposely waiting to do this review almost 30 days to see how the car performs and to make sure that there weren't any issues. I'm glad to report that there hasn't been a single issue with the car or with Auto Star Motors. The experience with Steve was not a battle that I prepared for but instead was two guys who had a common goal of making sure that my daughter was safe and not getting a bad deal. Thanks Steve for making my daughter's first car shopping experience a positive one. You earned the 5 Stars.

This fellow is the stereotype of junkyard employee. If he would slow down to listen and actually communicate, and also actually be honest, he wouldn't have any problems. If you go there and Alec is at the desk or on the phone go somewhere else, but if you must have a part, then it would be worth it to just wait until you can talk to someone else.

I took an older Toyota with transmission issues in to Darin to figure out what it would take to fix it. He quoted me $60 to do that. He checked it out, burped it, added fluid and it ran like new. Then he only charged me $30! He also noted the u joints were going bad. He replaced them, and they're still working well. When the clutch went out on my 2011 Nissan Frontier, the dealer wanted over $2500 for parts and labor. Darin got it done for $1900, and it's working great. The one problem I had with it (idiot light wouldn't go out) was sorted out by Darin and crew a month later at no charge. They do good work, and they aren't trying to take you for a ride. He could have told me the tranny was bad on the Toyota, and needed replaced for all I knew. I really appreciate being able to trust them.

Darren brought my truck in and looked it over for a transmission leak in the front differential. When Darren explain what the problem was he advised that it may still be under warranty. So instead of charging me for something that he could've made money on he went the extra mile and made sure that it was still under warranty, which it was. Darren called the Chevy dealership for me and verified that this was a warranty issue. I must say that in this day and age it was very refreshing to have a honest dhop like this one highly recommend if I ever have any transmission work I will definitely come here.

Then next the check engine light came on, mass air flow sensor. Reached out to them to see if they would fix it. Mind you the way these men spoke to me as a female was absolutely horrible. I was extremely uncomfortable. Then left me without a vehicle stranded in boise for almost 6 hours with 2 children while they "fixed" the seat belt and checked the check engine light. Then when I went to pick it up nobody even spoke to me or told me what they did or were going to do about the other issue. They didnt even put my back seats back together and I had to try and figure that out while wrestling 2 kids. They never reached back out. Now only 2 months after getting the vehicle and having it ran through by mechanics there seems to be way more that was wrong with it that is going to cost me thousands more dollars to fix. I dont understand why people wont just do the right thing and take care of the situation. Clearly these little boys do not know how to do business or treat a woman. My wife and I both have Toyotas; me, a 2018 RAV4 and her, a recently purchased 2023 4Runner. Edmark is the closest Toyota dealership to our home in Star. We brought my wife's vehicle in for an oil change. According to our purchase agreement, we have five free oil changes. Using the VIN, the dealership can verify this. I had verified this with someone over the phone, but upon arrival, I had to mention it to the service agent. Apparently, there are no notes kept in their customer data files. We left the car and returned home. We did not say whether we planned to wait for it to be finished. While another gentleman handled us when we arrived, our actual service agent was Mark. After we dropped the vehicle off, I received a text from Mark, creating a method for me to stay in contact with him during the time the 4Runner was being serviced. I was told by the other gentleman that checked us in that we would receive a call or text, letting us know when the car would be done. I never received any communication. Having dropped the car at 8:15 am, I contacted Mark about 12:30 to inquire whether the vehicle was ready. He apologized and texted that he was told that we would return shortly to pick up the car, which I guess means we don't receive communicaiton about the status? We picked up the vehicle in the afternoon. Mark was nice enough. I asked what our timeframe was for our free oil changes and it took him a while to look it up. He did provide that information to me. He called for a porter to bring our car around. He then pointed us across the service area to where our car would be. We saw a blue 4Runner that looked like ours parked and ready to leave the bay. Unfortunately, that was not our vehicle, which was already pointed at an angle within the bay. So, I'm pretty sure Mark had the young man bring the wrong car around for us. Overall, my first experience did not wow me, or leave me feeling confident in the Edmark Toyota service department. Since I'm going to be in the market for a certified pre-owned Highlander or RAV4 next year, I'm wondering if Edmark is where I should do my shopping. I haven't had any experience with the sales department yet.
