Robin's studio in Soho is a lovely retreat from the boisterous shopping below. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the smell of fresh flowers (such a nice touch)! Robin is the woman when it comes to perfectly shaped eyebrows (it's about $30 for a waxing / tweezing combo). I usually groom my own to save a little dough, but I stop in a few times a year to get perfectly-framed arches before a big event. Robin is also very personable and sweet, not to mention well-qualified (she studied with Dr. Murad, whose skin-saving products fly off the racks at Sephora). I hear she's even better with facials, and they also offer massages (I could go for either at the moment :-) and waxing almost anywhere you can imagine -- for men and women. It's all a pretty-penny, but this is one A-list experience worth the indulgence. I used to go to a threading place to have my brows shaped and tuned but I got lazy going every 3-4 weeks and so it's been a while since I've had my brows done. I do try to tweeze em myself but I felt it was time to have them professionally done. I searched on Citysearch to see who was voted the best 'brow shaper' for 2007 and voila! Robin Evans was the winner and so, I immediately called to make an appointment! I was able to book at appointment with Gina easily the day I called. It's in a non-descript building smack in Soho. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by a pleasant receptionist. I was about 10minutes early for my brow shaping appointment but Gina was able to see me right away. She walked me into a small room and asked me to hang up my coat and to lay down for her to look at my brows. Gina asked me to relax and asked me how I would like my brows done. She gave me her opinion which I went with. The wax didn't hurt as much as I expected and Gina followed up with some tweezing to shape and clean my brows. It was over in about 15 minutes and my brows look great! The walls are thin and so I could hear the conversation of a client having a facial done. It's not your usual hush-hush type of spa that has a Zen like feel and mood music playing in the background. FANTASTIC place and worth the investment every time. I have been going here for my brows for about 18 months. . . add it to your rolodex. You won't be disappointed, Aesthetic: Clean, bright, cozy but not cramped. The walls are thin but since the crew is knowledgeable and super-friendly, you don't really mind the convo. Love the international fashion magazines and flowers. It's true that you sometimes have to leave a message for appointments but they always call back within 24 hours and usually accommodate you fairly easily. Staff: I have been to both Robin and Jimena for my brows (tweeze only) but I favor Jimena. She's incredible - personable, professional and quick! She really studies the shape of your face to make sure your brows compliment your look properly. I have never left with "poor girl has a lazy eye" uneven brows or the "damn, will rogaine cause a rash on my face" uber-thin brows. Plus, she's by far one of the sweetest people ever, listens to your directions and she goes out of her way to know her clients. I'm willing to pay extra for the customer service. Pricing: Definitely not your nail salon wax/threading shop bargain. BUT for the precision, cleanliness and overall high-quality service, it's worth every penny. this is my place to go to pamper my facial hair. Done all my brow trimmings here because of convenience and robin's skills of course. very neatly and skillfully done. I try to go back once a month. Did eye lash tinting. Was educated about the ingredients and my lashed did looked longer after the treatment. like the first reviewer, i would agree that robin is very sweet and personable. one problem i had was making appointments. because it's a small place, you'll ocassionally be transferred to their voicemail if no one's there, which can make changing appointments a bit of a hassle. that's one star off. read more

Robin Evans Skincare is the best place to go for brow waxes in all of New York City. The women here are obsessed with brows, and with shaping and maintaining them in a way that makes you look your best. It's unbelievable how much a good brow wax can change your entire appearance! My boss took her 15 year old daughter here based on my recommendation, and not only did she look wonderful afterwards, but it was amazing to see how much more confident she was thanks to her new look! When I first became a client, I saw Robin, but then switched to Jimena purely by luck (Robin was totally booked). And now I won't trust anyone with my brows BUT Jimena. She's sweet, gorgeous, friendly. and has killer brows herself. She'll remember you (and details of your personal life!) no matter how infrequently you visit. Her waxes are impeccably done, and she always leaves my brows on the thick side--something we both prefer. I never worry about leaving with tiny, unnatural looking brows! Jimena also does makeup. $30 for a wax may seem like a lot, but trust me--it's worth it, even if you only go a few times a year before major events. I had an appointment with Robin for brow and lash tinting and a brow waxing. I am very picky about who does my eyebrows and I was impressed by Robin's reviews. I was highly disappointed though. Robin did the waxing first and the proceeded with my brow tinting. After she finished (I thought), she said that she actually had run out of the necessary product and would need to reschedule my brow and lash tint. There was no dye on my brows at all. Why she didn't call me before to tell me she was out of a product, I don't know. Then she charged me the absurd price of $67 for the eyebrow waxing and rescheduled my tintings. I called to confirm my later tinting appointment and she had me down for the wrong time, which I didn't make. After calling and leaving messages three times (there is not always someone at the desk, good luck getting someone to pick up when you call), she said that she bought a different product for the tinting and it went terribly with another client, so really I shouldn't come in that day. What if I had been that client who had to use the terrible product?! Why would you use a product on a client if you have no idea how it would work?! Robin apologized and assured me that she would call me when she got her regular product in and I could reschedule then. I never heard back from her, but after the experiences I had, I am okay with that. read more

Perfection! I had an eyebrow appointment with Robin this past Saturday while on a trip to NYC with my cousin. Backstory, I have terrible eyebrows. They are naturally two different shapes, and *always* uneven, no matter what I try. They never match. Well, not anymore! Somehow, Robin was able to not only get them to match, but look beautiful, like real eyebrows! My cousin asked me if somehow she added extra hair or something, haha! I was seriously blown away by her talent and my new brows. Robin herself was *incredibly* nice and very down to earth! Despite being a few minutes late, as we had a bit of trouble finding the location, she did not rush us and was just as nice as could be. We had great conversation and she recommended places that my cousin and I should check out in the city. I am sorry to say given the amazing reviews here, I had an awful experience. I was very clear that I wanted natural looking eyebrows that were not too thin. I got the opposite. I have never had such an awful eyebrow job. There is nothing about them that reflects the shape of my face, and the natural shape of my eyebrows. I discussed with Robin exactly what I wanted, and told her afterwards I did not like what she had done. She gave me $10 off. Wow. I won't be going there again. Most disappointed. Luckily eyebrows grow back, but it will take a few months to get a shape approximating my usual look. She has ruined my brows for the near future.. Not impressed. read more

I went to Robin Evans after reading the reviews on Yelp . . . and I'm so happy that I did! I've now been to see Gina three times - once for brows and twice for a facial. She's fantastic! I've never had anyone spend so much time on extractions. (Maybe that says something about the condition of my skin, but it also says something about the quality/care of her work.) Besides the work itself, what I loved most about Gina is that she didn't try to up-sell me anything. I don't like feeling pressured to buy products and appreciate that there was no hard sell here. In addition, I appreciated that Gina was very honest with me about what I needed to do with my skin and how often I should come in for a facial. I recently went to Robin Evans for the first time, and I wish I had discovered her sooner! The space is lovely, open and bright and very clean. The assistant had me fill out a form with my basic info, allergies, etc. and Robin came and picked me up shortly after. The bed was sooo comfortable, the music perfect, and Robin was very nice and shared her holistic approach. The facial was thoroughly cleansing but also pampering, and Robin uses a great selection of natural skincare. My skin feels great! As long as I'm in New York, I will never -- ever -- go anywhere else. What's really amazing is that all three women (Robin, Gina, Jimena) are more or less interchangeable in the sense that all three wax and very selective pluck to absolute perfection. Robin is a smidge more expensive, but, well, she's amazing -- and her own brows are, well, perfect. Really don't have enough good things to say about this place other than the fact that it's a tiny bit annoying they're not open on Sundays. That would be nitpicking though. read more

Robin is very sweet and talented. I had my eyebrows done and a facial. After years of going to random threading and waxing places, my brows had become a bit thinner than I'd like and the last person who did them messed them up royally. So I vowed not to touch them like the poster below. So i didn't for like 2-3 months. Robin fixed them as I told her I wanted them thicker and normal again. She advised me that it would probably take a few more months for them to really grow back in and I'd have to fill in a little with an eyebrow pencil, but that she would shape them now and once they filled it they'd look great. At first I was skeptical because I had to color in the spaces that needed to grow in that the other women had messed up, but a month later I can see the shape she made and they are growing in beautifully, I'm really happy with it. I'm going back for another touch up in a couple weeks and I can already tell that once they grow in a bit more they will be perfect. I'm really happy I went to her to fix them, even though it was a little on the expensive side. She does such a good job that you don't have to come back every week, though, which is good. I'd say for people who can't afford 60+ dollars a month on brows to come here to get a good shaping a couple times and then upkeep on your own, but you should come at least every three months to fix up the shape, and don't overtweeze in between. It takes like 6 months for over-tweezed brows to really grow back, so if that's what has happened to you in the past, don't expect Robin to make hair magically appear right away, but she will shape them properly and once they grow back you'll see what a good job she did. I'm very happy with her job, she knows what she's doing. I also have an eyebrow that grows kind of weird ( i call it my mister spock eyebrow) and she was good at dealing with that whereas other places just left me with half an eyebrow. As for the facial, it was pretty good. Also pricey so i probably wont come every month for that but if i could afford it i would as it was mostly relaxing, comfortable, and is good for your skin. At the very least though, if you can't afford the facials, come for the brow shaping. Your eyebrows will thank you and it's amazing what properly shaped brows can do for your eyes to open them up and make yoru face look balanced. It's a little difficult to get through to the office when you call , but she's a sole proprieter with an assistant so they aren't always there I guess. Leave them a message and they always call back within a day. If you need a last minute appointment that might be tricky, but she's called back within an hour before and sometimes they answer the phone, but don't always count on that. Still that doesn't bother me for the most part, but I think for someone who might need a last minute brow emergency if they're going out , they might have trouble getting in contact with her. For the very high cost of services and lack of prompt ability to contact I have to take off a star, but otherwise she is a very talented brow specialist and i highly reccomend for both brows and facials. read more

I decided to treat myself to an eyebrow shaping before my wedding. I had been growing out my eyebrows for about 6 months and was ready for awesome brows! The whole experience was just amazing. Robin greeted me as I walked in and right away was very welcoming and friendly. The space is very warm and clean. But the best part? This woman knows eyebrows. She did an amazing job. A very disappointing facial, the worst I have ever had. Never, ever have I had a facial where she would walk out of the room every time she "massaged" in a mask or a face wash to go type on her computer while I laid there with it on my face for 5-10 minutes. I paid extra for a facial that listed it came with a massage and glycolic peel, in which the massage was a five minute rub in of one of the products on my face, and the peel I didn't even feel a single tingle sensation on my skin. The chair was extremely uncomfortable and sitting almost upright, with metal bars rubbing into my back and pillows thrown over it, definitely not a professional esthetician bed. Even if there was some small neck and shoulder rub like I get with every facial I've ever had in the past, it would have been an uncomfortable experience sitting in the chair having her try and massage me through the pillows. Lights were fully on, no relaxing music, instead some fast pace piano music, and was thinking in my head what the heck was going on the whole time. 30 minutes out of the 60 minute facial she was out of the room on her computer, which I find completely rude and unprofessional. Even before extractions she left me with the steamer on my face for over ten minutes, and she didn't come back till it had already been off for about three minutes. By the time she did my extractions she barely cleared any of my pores or blackheads, and the two zits I had her extract, reappeared worse this morning and I had to do myself because they weren't popped or cleared correctly. As a working student I walked in ready to invest $140 on a relaxing facial that would refresh and clear my skin and release some tension in my shoulders and neck, as well as receive a glowing peel that was promised. Although she gave me the facial for $100 after I expressed a few complaints, and offered to massage me if I ever came in again, there is no way I would pay $100 for an experience that felt so unprofessional. I am not one to leave yelp reviews, in fact this is the first I have ever left, but I was so upset after I felt I had to express something for others looking for a nice facial. She sounds good at eyebrows, however the facial was a complete waste of money and left me unsatisfied with two bruised spots on my face. read more
