I'm famous for fixing things myself, but I have this horrible habit of not reading directions -- I just plow ahead until I mess something up, and THEN that's when I read the directions, so I basically need to *fix* my fix. It's infuriating. I'm retiring my role with being the angry know-it-all, well ... in this instance. So searching Yelp around the Newark area to seek out a Rent-A-Husband -- I came across Robert. Boy, he is one stop shopping! He replaced a drip seal on the bottom of our shower doors, fixed our toilet, and cleared out a downspout that I was sure needed to be replaced. Soon I'm going to have him replace the weatherstripping, remove the popcorn from our ceilings, and install a new door lock. I was looking for a contractor with reasonable prices and who would do the job promised on time and do it well. Robert goes above and beyond with his integrity, kindness, and honesty. If he can't do something or doesn't think it's a good idea, he'll tell you, but there's not much he can't do! Robert and his guys worked at our house on various jobs for a little over a week. Hired Robert The handyman to fix up a lot of dents and dings on the house that we had been renting for about 6 years. We gave him a list of about a dozen items and received a quote of $800 for everything which was incredibly reasonable since it took a good eight hours 8 to 10 hours to complete the list. Robert was thorough, professional and very courteous. He completed each item on the list in and the work was flawless on each one. We even hired him to come back and take everything left over after the movie, pretty much a full garage and a bunch of pieces in the backyard. He hired a truck and another person to help and took everything to the dump. The price was $700 which again was very reasonable for the amount of work. He even emailed us pictures about the house and the backyard proving that everything had been cleared out. Our tenant moved out of our rental and I had Robert come over and repaint the place and fix the laundry area's bifold door. He installed a brand new track for it and now the doors finally can stay up and won't come off track. He also help us replaced some really old closet bi-folds with brand new sliding doors. 6 of our electric outlets in the kitchen went out 3 months ago, not tripped by the electric circuit. We had waited for our previous "trusted" electrician who installed our recess lights a few years ago that resulted in the no-call-no show and won't even answer his phone. My brother suggested Robert as he previously had done work at his house. After another month of unable to get an appointment from our previous electrician, I call Robert for a consultation. Over the phone, Robert went over some basic troubleshooting tips with me. Once all the due diligence was done, he determined he needed to assess the issue in person. Robert told me up front that he was fully booked up, but kindly dropped by to see what the problem was. And within 15 minutes, he determined that GFCI was the issues after assessing all the electric outlets. He exchanged an extra GFCI outlet that he had in his truck, and also switched out two of the new USB outlets that I purchased from Costco. Robert and his co-worker worked quickly and efficiently together, and what I appreciate the most is that Robert double-checked all his helper's work and he was very good in explaining the problem and future preventions, such as not overloading the GFCI circuit. I had a very negative experience with this handyman. I had him over to do repairs but all he wanted to do was TALK. He was very pushy with his religion which I do not think is appropriate in the workplace. He wanted to buy my husbands motorcycle and took it but did not pay till I tracked him down over a year later! I left a review about my experience to warn people and he was threatened and responded aggressively with a made-up story to try and discredit me. This is how a bully reacts to a woman he is afraid of, he attacks her for being "hysterical." He said I had "many emotional outbursts when he tried to work at my house" and that he "was not a counselor" What a joke. This is how he deals with an unhappy customer, NOT very professional. You don't deal with a business issue by threatening your clients and you don't deal with debt by running away. I would still warn any woman alone to be very careful around this guy. My landlord hired Robert to fix a door and fix my dryer. He did them both in a matter of an hour and did an awesome job! My landlord then hired him again to fix my upstairs tub because there was leakage into my downstairs TV room. Talk about a greedy person. I guess it wasn't enough to make $225/hr but Robert wanted to make $300/hr. Read on for what happened. I've used Yelped often but haven't written a review for a long time until I was compelled to again today. I contacted Robert last Saturday and he was kind enough to stop by apartment I had just rented out to fix a few things. He came by around 1PM on Saturday to take a look at the problems and while there fixed a deadbolt issue for us for free. I really thought I had found a great handyman who was responsive and easy to work with. Yesterday he calls me as I had forgotten to call him about coming to fix the issues which are cutting a total of 7 boards to size for the shelfs we had in the kitchen pantry and the bathroom mirror cabinet as well as fixing a stuck shower valve. All together he had quoted me $225 which I had thought was way too expensive but I wanted to get the issues resolved as my tenant was already in my unit. I knew this job wouldn't take more than an hour. Today he headed over to the apartment and addressed all the issues. After he was done he called me to tell me I needed to pay him an extra $75. He was at the apartment and I didn't want to have an argument in the presence of my tenant so we agreed that he would come to pick up his check from me. I called my tenant after a while to make sure Robert had left and asked my tenant how long he was there for. He was there for a little more than an hour and also was gone for 20 min to get something from the store. When he came to my office, I asked him why are you charging me $75 more and he said because he had fixed something that wasn't on the list of things to do which was aligning the cabinet doors below the bathroom sink and that he had bought some part. He claimed that my tenant had asked him to do that and my tenant told me he had pointed it out and fixed it for us. I didn't know handymen make over $200 an hour. This guy is a rip off artist and do not work with him. read more

I recently bought a home and wanted to get some work done. I looked up yelp and called Robert along with few other handymans. After interviewing several people I decided to go with Robert as i found him very honest, straightforward and reasonable. And after few weeks of getting work done i am glad and so pleased to have selected Robert for the work. Where do I even start? First of all the whole kitchen remodel was my wife's idea. The first guy that came flat out said it couldn't be done for various reasons and didn't seem to be too excited at the prospect of doing the job. My persistent wife contacted Robert to see if he might be able to do the job. Robert came by with a positive attitude, a great price and was hired. Robert and his crew would come over on the designated days and worked all day. They always cleaned up after themselves, showed respect to us and our property and were always concerned as to whether we thought things were progressing well. We had a lot of debris from the job and Robert even saw to it that it was all cleaned up and he hauled away. Our remodel took about two months but that was due to the fact we had to wait for our cabinets to arrive after being ordered from Home Depot.
