In a nutshell, Derrick is fantastic!!! Great communication, attention to detail, punctual, easy to work with and overall a great guy! I had several jobs for which I needed help. Derrick took care of most of them. Polk Audio surround sound speaker ceiling mounting, diagnosing an electrical issue, caulking bathroom, repairing mesh in patio entrance were some of the jobs that he worked on. For the ones he couldn't take care of he explained in detail 'why' he wasn't able to care for them and recommended alternatives. He was spot on with the estimates as well. Derrick is so great. He remodeled our three clothes cabinets and paint them, change the kitchen facet, replace and reposition the disposal, he will also paint the kitchen cabinets and change vanity. I found Derrick on Craigslist and emailed him. He responded quickly and he quoted me from some simple pictures. It was an informal quote and very reasonable in price. The work was to repair a 12x24 deck that had some wood rotted. It was impossible to tell the extent of rot without tearing some board up. He scheduled me in and when the day came, he discovered a substantial amount of rot. At this point, Derrick's consultation was pivotal in rolling with these extra punches. He made suggestions of replacing the foundation and I am glad to have taken them. The job did turn out to be larger but we negotiated the price and Derrick was very fair. The finished product is a partially replaced deck, the price was very reasonable, and the quality is high. Derrick is meticulous in the details and he was a real nice guy, fixing a couple other thinks wrong with my backyard without hesitation. Derrick came over to our house to look at about a half dozen issues that I was having. He was able to diagnose each of the issues and saved me a lot of money by explaining to me in detail what the problem was and how the problem could be fixed if I chose to do the fix myself. For example, we have a bathtub faucet that sprays water. Rather than propose taking apart the bathtub and charging me hundreds of dollars to diagnose and fix--like 2 other contractors told me--Derrick was able to recommend a commonly available cleaning solution that would remove the lime and calcium buildup he found on the faucet. Best of all he didn't charge me for the visit, but gave me reasonable quotes for work should I choose to have him do the fixes instead of me. He is also not going to try to do work that he isn't already an expert at, and will recommend others that he feels would do a good job. I'd recommend giving Derrick a call if you're in the East Bay and have some home repair issues that you can't quite figure out how to fix yourself. read more

Since the job I had was small, I was not sure if I'd find someone to take it.
