Found this salon after moving to Tucson in the early 2000's, as I love Aveda products. Over the years, I had my hair done by a few talented stylists that have since moved on. I have followed one of them to a different salon, but this place has a special place in my heart since I used their services for my wedding 12 yrs ago. I got my haircut on a whim last week. I saw there was a first time client special and the reviews were great here. I should've been hesitant as there was immediate availability. I feel bad bc the hair dresser was really nice but I literally just found a few strands of hair that are much longer than the rest of my hair. Like 3 inches. Note: I asked for a trim and that I wanted to keep my length bc I'm trying to grow it. I also said that I am super busy and I need low maintenance. I'm have a toddler and am 9 months pregnant... and I work full time. My hair is extremely choppy and if I don't curl it it is pretty devastating to look at. This unfortunately does nothing to my confidence as I was looking for a nice fresh boost. I will not be returning. Rocio gave me 90"s STRIPS , couldn't convince myself to like it as much as I tried . I don't think she is up to date with new techniques and better placements , I shame the salon to not control the quality of work of their team, her technique is outdated , this could look much better if I would of done it myself and I'm an amateur student who graduated and never went to do hair, I believe she did everything right if we where in the 90"! I have lost trust in this salon and will be going to someone who keeps up with the modern trends styles and techniques , this place uses Aveda but definitely not up to Aveda standards with their stylist sorry ! I've never written a review in yelp but I was so disappointed with the results of my haircut today. I came in for a last minute impulsive haircut and was excited to find a place with such good reviews that had appointments so soon. I'm in college, and so $50 (plus tip and uber money) was a bit of a splurge for me to be disappointed. My experience at the salon was good, everyone was friendly and my hairdresser seemed to know what she was doing. She had cut and blow dried my hair and trimmed down the front when I had asked. I left the salon really happy with my new hair. After coming home and styling it as I typically do (lightly straightening it), I found that my hair had been cut messy and uneven. I could have done a better job myself. I wish I would have seen this before leaving the salon, but the lady who had cut my hair had hidden the messy job by blow drying the ends under. UPDATE: I called today to see if I could come back in and have someone with more experience fix my hair and they told me I could come back in but it would be an extra charge to have somebody else fix it. I understand that each individual stylist has their own price and needs to be paid, but I think that the salon should have enough confidence in the abilities of the people that they hire to be willing to cover the costs of their own employees mistakes. Front receptionist was fabulous and really friendly. My first appointment with the salon was with Janelle (sp?). When I made my appointment I requested a master stylist or a more senior/specialist stylist, as I've usually always had better experiences with what I like. Janelle seemed nice enough and seemed to know her color, which was great (I came from a salon in the Bay Area and my amazing stylist gave me the (non-Aveda) formula to share). The three stars comes from the lackluster haircut (no style provided, just a plain blow dry) and my hair wasn't even that soft or shiny after (I'm a pretty basic brunette and just have my roots touched up with a little gloss on my ends). The conversation was also kind of too loud and she was an over-sharer who didn't seem to catch on that I'm not a super chatty person. She did tint my brows nicely (although I had to ask her to take the dye off as it was getting too dark) and cleaned them up a bit after, which I appreciated. She also kept going on about her other job that's not hair-related, which, for me, is a little bit of a red flag on passion vs just another job to pay the bills (which I totally get, but I prefer someone who will work hard to be the BEST they can be at their craft). As a whole it was mostly a 'meh' experience, so I will need to keep hunting for a high-quality salon in Tucson. read more

Incredible salon! So much so that I come from either California or Florida for the service. I went from dark brown (level 3 or 4) to blonde and the tone they were able to get was exactly what I wanted - a warm blonde without the red or brash! I also have very curly hair and Mary Jo did a great job on my cut. Highly recommend Mary Jo, Rocio, or of course Robert for your service! I had my Aveda formal from my old Salon and a picture of what kind of cut I was looking for. I was at the salon yesterday for a cut and color. Everyone was so wonderful. Everyone wore masks which was a big concern of mine considering COVID-19. I felt very safe there. They distanced the stations that were in use so that everyone was as safe as possible. I applaud the owner and his staff. These are difficult times and COVID isn't easy. They made my experience very pleasant. All of the other customers were commenting about their experience as well. All of the employees wore masks, too, and washed their hands often. I got my first ever brow waxing here, and it was an amazing experence. They are Avada which means a little pricy, but high class, and well trained. Waxing wasn't too bad on my check book though about $18 (if I remember correctly), my sister in law had a brow wax the same day at Gadabout, and it was $21, and not as well done. I love that I got exactly what I asked for, and the waxer knew what I was talking about. I tend to like 50s glamour, so I wanted Sophia Lauren's brows from the 50s, the girl knew exactly what I was talking about, and pulled it off. She made me look 100X better, and I left full of confidence. read more

MaryJo is the consummate professional. She sat me down, combed my hair and asked how much I wanted off then asked if a razor cut was OK. I am SO GLAD I said yes. I had not been to a professional stylist for a haircut in two years, due to some bad cuts or colors/tints left in too long and the result was hair that left me feeling frustrated. It grows slow, so, I had to live with the results of bad-hairdressers for a long time. I felt a lot of anxiety, and thought twice about showing up for my scheduled appointment. I'm giving this business two stars because the owner, Robert, is extremely knowledgeable and skilled at cutting hair. (Pregnant pause...). However, I have now been to this salon not once but twice where I found the customer service abysmal. The staff is not very inviting and seems to make the customer feel like they're doing them a favor. That's the general complaint. The specifics are these: after my first cut, I contacted Robert directly to ask about future pricing. He did not call me back after the first short conversation and actually did not return my calls the next two tries. I still tried to give it another shot. But when I arrived to the salon the second time, I was met with grave faces, no smiles. The assistant, Aaron, actually held down my head while washing my hair, even though I tried to communicate multiple times that he wasn't reaching the lower back part of my head at all. Instead of listening and changing his style, he simply applied more pressure to my head holding. Then Robert began to cut my hair. The subject of the unanswered calls came up, and Robert suggested that I didn't need all the services this time and that the cost would be "much lower." The cut was fine but Robert ignored the one area I wanted him to cut especially. Then the brand new girl took a LONG time to color my hair, leaving the color on too long and leaving it dull and dry. She dried the hair too long as well, despite me saying multiple times that she was over drying it, so that I walked out with the top of my head frizzy, lifeless and dull. The final straw was when I went to the counter to check out and was told that not only was the cut and color not cheaper (as promised by the owner), it actually cost even more money. A quick check by the owner and I was told they "could discount me this time" by paying the same as my first visit. I walked out, utterly confused, frustrated and embarrassed that I looked more like a wind blown sheepdog than a satisfied customer with an expensive cut. Nope. I won't be returning to this place. Customer service is sorely lacking. read more

Groupon brought me into this Salon. As soon as I walked in Jacqueline helped check me in and offered water, coffee or tea. I opted for the tea. It was a great choice. I have to say I fell in love with their aveda facial today. Satya was a total sweetheart that genuinely made my appointment about me. This facial was extremely relaxing. I think I found a new addiction for pampering myself! This facial as others have mentioned is sooooo relaxing not the typical drown you with steam and extractions. Less clinical and more therapeutic is how I would describe it. She used many different brushes and massaging techniques. She even massaged my neck, shoulders, upper back and feet. They use great quality aveda products with real essential oils. Even though the salon is above us it didn't take away from the relaxing experience at all. The salon is very modern and chic. The restroom was clean and the temperature inside the building was perfect. I can't wait to come back again! Thank you for the amazing experience today! read more

"I'm going to get fou fou at Mr. Markley..." Okay. Those damned Aveda sales people. Where do they get them from? They always have nice skin, nice hair, and beautiful eyebrows. So when I decided to try eyebrow shaping I asked the Aveda lady who does hers, and she said "She does" That doesn't help. But she gave me the Aveda salon map. I figure it wouldn't kill me to go to any of these places as all of the Aveda sales people I've seen always look stunning. I chose the Robert Markley Salon Spa.... just because... I had really no reason... it was open on a Saturday about 5pm and I was passing it on my way home. The experience was nice... well not initially. The esthetician took off too much hair for my taste, but the shape was noteworthy. I made a repeat performance there just recently after growing out my brows for a year or more and a new esthetician took the reigns. She too gave me something complementary to my face and was pretty patient with my ongoing tale of eyebrow shaping fears. A brow shape is $20 and upkeep is $15. I like them... they're not too stuffy...and my first visit I did meet Mr. Markley. He just stared me down like one of those Queer Eye for the Straight Guy guys, as it was apparent he was thinking what kind of mess I was... but enough to think there was potential- at least that is what I hope he was thinking! I don't know if I want to get my hair done there... as most everyone's look was extremely highly structured architectural pieces on top of heads, but I do trust their eyebrow service! read more

Bottom line: I love Aveda salons, and this was the BEST Aveda salon I have ever been to. My haircut lays fantastically in all different kinds of styles! I will be back!! Tai was not only sweet and welcoming, but as she cut my hair she thought of everything! She asked me many questions about how I like to wear my hair, style it, if I put it behind my ears, etc., and gave me a cut that works in every situation! I have very thick and wavy hair, and she worked magic on it :) Additionally, I always give hairdressers a vague idea of what I want, and end with "but since you're the expert, you do what you think looks good." They are usually hesitant to follow-through with that last point, but Tai ran with it. She is truly an artist and gave me the best haircut of my life! She didn't go crazy, but she gave me a cut that I wouldn't have even known how to ask for! Nobie is a genius. I go into the salon in a sad pony tail with roots as outgrown for miles and Nobie whips up cups of goop and snips away and I walk away looking presentable. My grandmother was a cosmetology teacher, so I've been raised to believe that a bad hair cut is as worse a sin as one can commit. And as a blond (yes a real one)... good color really does matter. I have been going to this salon for 4 years and I highly recommend it due to the consistent high quality and professionalism of services provided at this salon. I have been very satisfied with many of their services, from haircuts (short-hair and long-hair), to full body massages, facials, products, etc. In general, I love Aveda salons for the overall higher quality of service and natural products (that includes a scalp massage with essential oils with every haircut!), but this Aveda Salon is a step above other Aveda salons. When I first moved to Tucson 5 years ago I tried out every Aveda Salon here. This one quickly became my favorite when I received my first haircut there with an amazing stylist who knew how to create excellent layers and texturing, and later I had some consistently amazing full body massages. I happily became hooked on the Robert Markley Aveda Salon ever since. In my 4 years of going to the salon, I've only had one haircut I did not like and when I let the salon know, they were immediately responsive and quick to give me exactly the haircut I was looking for. The scalp, neck, and hand massages are a treat, and of course the Aveda products are wonderful. Katie cut my hair, and did an excellent job. Results were 5 star in every way and spending time in her chair was a pleasure as we got to know each other. What a relief to have found a talented artist, who didn't oversell products and gave me a great cut/color. My dissapointment came as I was leaving. The 2 people at the desk had no interest in smiling or making me feel welcome on this first visit. I almost felt like I was intruding by checking out and handing over my money.
