We stopped by Robata Wasa for a quick bite after shopping since my wife was craving some Japanese food. We ordered the edamame, baked salmon roll, and the makunouchi bento to share. The interior of the restaurant was very nice. It was clean, spacious, well-decorated, and we were seated in a comfy booth. Service was friendly and attentive and the food arrived at a decent pace. Regrettably, the food itself was overpriced and very mediocre. The salmon roll came out so soggy that it fell apart when we tried to pick it up. The edamame was okay and the bento was passable but not memorable. To add to this, the restaurant also charges an extra 3% surcharge for using a credit card (I didn't even realize until the server starred it for me on my receipt). I could understand this at a small mom-and-pop shop or some place with a cheaper menu but at a restaurant of this size in a high-traffic area, it didn't feel right...especially with already high prices. Between the mediocre food, inflated pricing, and extra fees, I'd recommend skipping. read more

This hidden gem at Irvine Spectrum is worth a stop! The restaurant is clean and beautifully decorated. I started with the lychee martini -- so refreshing and easy to drink. We ordered the Uni meets Ikura, scallop crudo, miso cod, and chirashi bowl. Everything was fresh and flavorful, but the miso cod was the standout -- perfectly cooked and so delicious. The chirashi bowl was packed with fish and super satisfying. If you're shopping and craving Japanese food, this is the spot! read more

This place is one of the best sushi places in OC. I love that they haven't changed their menu in years and that they still have my favorite items on the menu. My personal favorite is the truffle salmon carpaccio, yellowtail jalapeno, rainbow roll, shitake salad (which you cant find anywhere and is out of this world) and the lobster roll. I wish they would add few other fresh rolls (non tempura or baked) without spicy tuna or crab to their menu. The shitake salad is a must have and they have good house sake and miso soup as well. I wanted to get sushi but also had my dog with me and they were able to seat us outside and were dog friendly. The outside area was very comfortable and even though it was hot outside it felt really nice to sit outdoors. Our waitress took our drink order immediately and was very attentive throughout the meal. She was very knowledgeable about the sashimi we ordered. I was very impressed with their sushi selection as i had never seen a lot of their menu items before. All the fish was melt in your mouth delicious and we just kept ordering more things. Again i was very impressed with the fish quality and was very happy with all the selection they had. The price for the food was definitely worth the money. I would definitely recommend this spot to everyone I know and will be coming back soon! read more

Tiffanie deserves 6 STARS and deserves recognition. However, that wireless register computer puck deserves NEGATIVE stars.... I had a very important business meeting with another doctor and wanted to really create a great job invitational ambiance which Tiffanie did very well in creating. Tiffanie was VERY ATTENTIVE and ACCOMMODATING to our wants- overriding our needs above and beyond. The purple flan dessert was the perfect touch and Tiffanie's suggestion. When it came to paying the check....the wireless payment puck CONKED OUT ERRORS & charged me $102.36 TWICE (two HOLDS per my bank app) on my bank statement and Tiffanie had to go manual/paper. Later on I had to call my bank to fix double charge. Out of frustration I purposely CROSSED A LINE for tip on paper - intending ZERO tip. As to how a $10 tip was automatically added BEWILDERS me. I leave it to management to rectify this matter... Again KUDOS to Tiffanie and her splendid service. but the computer puck is TRASH... Dr Tesla/Viet read more

The food taste good and both came with miso soup. Good portion and we shared each other's lunch. The eel is soft and melts in the mouth. The sushi bento box also has a good amount of sushi and sashimi. I think it is a bit too much for me but to share with my husband it is perfect. The price is alright because it is inside the Spectrum. We sat in the back corner which was a little dark. The outside seating is probably a better choice. I am not sure if I would come back just because there are so many options out there. read more

Service was very pleasant. We went when it was raining super hard that day so I figured So Cal residents wouldn't want to go to an outdoor mall that day. I've always wanted to try this restaurant and have seen their ads on IG. We were seating immediately and given a menu with an interesting selection of entrees and appetizers. I ordered primarily sushi this day - it's very good. Arguably some of the best I've had in Southern California. Shocking I know. You can't go wrong with their selection of both nigiri and rolls. Pricey but very good. Ambiance here - acceptable for date night. Wood and Zen feeling. read more

Our group of 7 really enjoyed our meal here, unfortunately I didn't take ANY pictures of our food because I was too busy getting drunk LOL but we got seated outdoors with lots of heat lamps so it was rly nice We ordered: Scallop carpaccio, grilled shishito peppers, salmon carpaccio, 5 different sushi rolls (all of them were amazing), deluxe chirashi bowl, unagi don, squid ink mentaiko pasta, bento box and tempura udon. Everything was FIRE. We did family style and shared everything and nobody had anything to say but good things! We also ordered a ton of beer and 2 bottles of Kikusui and ofc it only made our meal sexier Service was good! our server, GOD BLESS HER, was soooo sweet and funny. I forgot her name but she's Thai and she was teaching us some words in Thai. She was really attentive and super personable. Definitely am going to come back because this joint is great! One of the worst dining experiences I've had. We were seated and completely ignored for over 20 minutes with no water or service. After finally ordering, we waited about an hour for food, and one meal never arrived. No one checked on us at any point or gave any updates. We had to repeatedly ask for basic items like soy sauce. Eventually we canceled the missing dish, and there was no apology or explanation at all. I understand restaurants can be busy, but the lack of communication and basic customer care was unacceptable. We left frustrated and disappointed, and I will not be returning. read more

My husband and I had such a great experience here! The food was so yummy, especially the fried calamari, which was perfectly flakey. What really made our visit stand out was our waitress, Tif. My partner has a severe dairy allergy, and she went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and comfortable. Before we even ordered, she checked with the chef about ingredients and came back with helpful updates. She also made sure sauces could be served on the side and gave thoughtful recommendations on what would work best for us. Her service was great throughout the meal, very attentive, responsive, and incredibly kind. She kept our waters filled without us needing to ask and was so sweet the entire time. I mentioned that ginger is my favorite and asked for a little extra, and she came back with a huge serving! We loved our experience and will definitely be coming back and hope to see Tif again! read more

The food was wonderful but the service was terrible. Our server never gave us wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce which is SO strange. With a party of four who each needed some, the server only gave us ONE little tray for all of us to share?.. It was clearly meant for one person. She was nice but we were hardly given attention here. We got the gyoza, spicy garlic edamame, fishnet roll, spicy hamachi hataki roll, and albacore hataki- all delicious. HOWEVER- DO NOT GET THE ICED MATCHA GREEN TEA . It tasted exactly like BAD water. It was so diluted and whoever made it definitely got the measurements wrong. The cup with the YELLOW liquid is this drink. read more

Between the lighting and seating, the whole restaurant has such a nice mood and feels perfect for a dinner out. The menu is huge and there were so many things we wanted to try, but we eventually decided on the Omakase Bowl and Miso Crab Salmon. Our food came out pretty quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. The Miso Crab Salmon was the biggest surprise of the night. We normally don't gravitate toward crab dishes at sushi restaurants because they can sometimes be overly creamy, but we had seen so many good things about this one that we had to try it. No regrets! Everything was so well balanced, the salmon tasted incredibly fresh, and the truffle flavor brought it all together without making the dish feel too heavy. This ended up being much more memorable than we expected. The Omakase Bowl was our favorite, but we already had a feeling we were going to love it. Everything in the bowl tasted so fresh, and all the different components worked perfectly together. It was exactly the kind of dish we were hoping for. Parking is pretty convenient too. Normally that wouldn't be a huge issue if there was actually a way to add it through the DoorDash menu, but there isn't. I explained that I was trying to pay for it and simply wanted to know how to do so, yet the woman I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of trying to help find a solution, I was treated like I was inconveniencing them by asking a simple question. Good customer service is about helping customers (I've ordered there many times before and dined in person as well), especially when there's an issue with your online ordering setup. A small side of spicy mayo should not turn into an unpleasant interaction. The food may be decent, but customer service matters too. There are plenty of sushi restaurants that appreciate their customers and are willing to provide basic courtesy and assistance. Based on this experience, I won't be ordering from here again.

Had a 5pm res Sat night the 22nd and they continually want to seat us at the most tiniest tables when we order a ton of sushi so I asked for a larger table, which they accommodated so we appreciated that. But our food server had so much perfume on it ruined the entire dinner for me. Her perfume also gave me a migraine which I still have and it's Monday morning. Here's something I pulled off Google. Maybe share this with your employees: Perfume can ruin a restaurant dinner by overpowering the delicate aromas of food, essentially blocking your ability to fully taste the dish, especially when a strong scent is worn in a close dining environment; this can be particularly disruptive in fine dining experiences where subtle flavors are key, and can also be unpleasant for other diners at the table or nearby. Key points about how perfume can affect a meal: Sensory overload: A strong perfume can overwhelm your sense of smell, preventing you from properly perceiving the nuances of the food's aroma. Taste interference: Since smell plays a significant role in taste perception, a strong fragrance can alter how you experience the flavors on your palate. Distraction for others: Wearing excessive perfume can be disruptive to other diners at the table or nearby, ruining their dining experience as well. Why some restaurants might discourage strong scents: Focus on culinary experience: High-end restaurants prioritize the full sensory experience of food, and strong perfumes can detract from that. Hygiene concerns: In some cases, concerns about potential food contamination might also play a role, especially if a server is wearing a strong scent while handling food. read more

Had a great meal at Robata Wasa in Irvine Spectrum. The restaurant has a modern Japanese atmosphere that feels upscale without being overly formal, making it a great spot for lunch or dinner after shopping around the Spectrum. We tried a variety of dishes, including the yellowtail hand roll, bluefin tuna nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, wasabi calamari, tori karaage, Natsu Salmon Roll, and the new Wasa Bento offerings. Everything was fresh and well-prepared, especially the sushi and sashimi. My favorite dish was the Mentaiko & Shrimp Cream Pasta. It was rich, creamy, comforting, and packed with flavor. The wasabi calamari and tori karaage were also great starters to share. For drinks, we ordered the non-alcoholic Pink Lotus and Moscow Mule, both of which were refreshing and paired well with the meal. Overall, a solid addition to the Irvine Spectrum dining scene. I'd definitely come back to try more of their seasonal specials and new menu items. Highly recommend if you're looking for quality Japanese food in a relaxed and stylish setting. Robata Wasa delivered an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was elegant, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxing meal at Irvine Spectrum. A special thank you to Kaho, who provided exceptional service throughout our visit. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. My favorite dish of the night was the Volcano Roll. It was fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented, and packed with the perfect balance of textures and taste. I could easily order it again on my next visit. The Ube Mocktail was another standout. It was unique, refreshing, visually stunning, and unlike anything I've tried before. If you're visiting, it's definitely worth ordering. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared, and you can tell the restaurant takes pride in both quality and presentation. From the food to the service, everything exceeded expectations. If you're looking for a memorable sushi and Japanese dining experience in Irvine, Robata Wasa is absolutely worth a visit. We had such an amazing dining experience at Robata Wasa in the Irvine Spectrum! From the moment we sat down, everything--from the service to the presentation--was top notch. We started with a Lychee Martini, which was refreshing, light, and the perfect way to kick off the meal. For appetizers, the Yellowtail & Jalapeño was bright and flavorful, with the heirloom tomatoes and jalapeño dressing adding just the right amount of freshness and heat. The Albacore Tataki was another highlight--perfectly seared with a tangy ponzu and a pop of crunch from the fried onions. Moving on to rolls, the Spicy Yellowtail Tataki Roll delivered on flavor with just the right balance of spice and sweetness. But the star of the night had to be the Hokkaido Roll--the combination of shrimp tempura and creamy scallops on top with spicy mayo and eel sauce was absolutely decadent. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted incredibly fresh. Robata Wasa is definitely a standout sushi spot at the Spectrum, and we'll absolutely be back soon! read more

My boyfriend and I visited this sushi restaurant for the first time, and it was delicious! We'd been looking for a new sushi spot and, despite initial hesitation, were impressed by our friendly, attentive waiter. The ambience was pleasant, with background music at the perfect volume for conversation. I tried two drinks: a gin-based specialty cocktail that wasn't to my taste, and a margarita that was excellent. For appetizers, we shared the edamame, which was good but not exceptional--though I'd order it again. The jalapeño poppers, however, were disappointing and overpriced, with bland flavors that didn't justify the cost. The highlight was our shared spicy yellowtail roll, which delivered an immediate burst of delightful flavors. I would say this place is a great spot for casual dining. Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The service alone deserves a shoutout; our server Tiffany was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely taken care of the entire dining experience. Jose, the manager, was equally welcoming and professional checking up on us periodically. Now let's talk about the food because wow. The mentaiko pasta was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced comforting but still elevated. The salmon lemon pepper roll was bright and flavorful with just the right citrus kick, and the spicy yellowtail tataki roll was hands-down a standout. To top it all off, the Yudori Sour cocktail was smooth, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. Great food, great drinks, and even better people. This place nails it on all fronts, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend! read more

1 star This review is specifically regarding the host working at the time of my visit management, please address this directly. I waited at the front for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. When I was finally spoken to, I was told there would be a 10-minute wait. When I calmly mentioned that the tables were empty, the host immediately gave me an attitude. She rolled her eyes, stared at me, and said, "Would you like to put your number down again?" in a rude and condescending tone. I'm sure this interaction, including the eye roll, can be seen on camera. No greeting, no apology, and no professionalism. First impressions matter, and this experience made me leave instead of dining there. Please address this so future guests don't have the same experience. read more

Yet, when I arrive in person and request a to-go order after being seated, it seems more manageable for them. I've noticed this discrepancy a few times, discovering they weren't as busy as suggested, with some staff members on break. Additionally, I've been advised to call back a few hours later to place a pickup order. While I understand the restaurant can get quite busy, I have had similar experiences during quieter times when I was able to walk in or place an online order without issue. The consistency of service has varied; sometimes it is very attentive, while other times it seems to fall short, regardless of the restaurant's busyness. On a positive note, the food is quite enjoyable. I particularly appreciate their sesame sauce and ponzu, and I like that they offer extra greens like bok choy, kale, and cabbage for those who prefer more vegetables with their shabu. They also have a variety of additional toppings, such as fish balls and shrimp, which are quite tasty. Personally, I enjoy adding onions to my shabu, although they don't seem to offer that option here. The mushrooms are consistently fresh, which I appreciate. However, it would be helpful to have a way to order additional broth to go, as the containers provided are somewhat small for the amount needed for cooking. I choose this restaurant for its delicious food and convenient location, and while the prices are somewhat average, they fall in line with expectations for the area. I will continue to frequent this place, as I enjoy the offerings, though I am aware that I may occasionally encounter service-related challenges.

I love the chicken paitan DX as it comes with a grilled chicken leg which is also tasty, and it's a really good deal. Just gotta make sure to get there either for lunch or really early for dinner, as they tend to run out of the chicken legs by dinner time, especially on the weekend. The gyoza here is also decent. The only down side I have is that their bowls are good but not great. The servers here are usually pretty attentive and nice. Haven't had a bad experience so far (:

Dish is spicy by default, but honestly its pretty tame in terms of heat. Inside is colorful, clean, and air conditioned. Parking can be hectic on weekday lunch hour. Do expect to circle a bit. Servers are friendly and attentive.

The other members of my party didn't realize that and walked around to the other side to find the entrance. I had notified the other members of my party that there were discount gift cards available at Costco, but the Little Sister website did not dictate prices so we were not sure if we should have bought them. For a party of 3-4 people, I would say $100 of store credit would be used up in one visit. It was slow food. We sat down and ordered, and they brought out the food more or less at the same time for all of us. Some weirdo kept taking pictures next to us, so don't expect too much privacy. Either way, going here satisfied our curiosity, and the food was noteworthy. My friends had a better sense of taste than me and noticed the taste was different than what one could order the same thing at another restaurant was, but I didn't notice too much since my sense of taste is different than theirs.

We visited here for the first time and unfortunately this will be our last visit…read more Service was excellent - the first impression you get is that this is a fine dining restaurant....the tables and table settings look like the finest appointed restaurant we have seen. Also the service is very attentive and professional so again a "fine dining restaurant." We tried a number of things from the appetizer and main course menus so we could get an idea of the range....we had not hope of eating it so we simply grazed.... Everyone was well-prepared. I had an issue with the salmon filet but that is the hardest to prepare across the entire menu....I have had better prepared salmon but everything else was well-done. The ambiance is were the issue is....as I understand it the owner is the chef...TIN VUONG ... and he has a particular vision that includes the music that is playing as background....to us, it's a deal breaker....kind of a 60s RAP-sounding soundtrack that apparently is not subject to objection. I understand that Chef Vuong grew up in the local area and got his musical taste in southern California. This feature alone will be the reason we won't return.
