As a returning customer, I love this place. This is a good go-to sushi joint with both indoor and patio dining. Located inside Irvine Spectrum Shopping Center, this well decorated dining spot provides a comfortable and intimate dining experience. I have nothing bad to say about the service and quality. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Came in for a business lunch meeting on a Tuesday afternoon. My coworkers and I ordered a few simple sushi dishes like California roll and sushi platter, and it took over an hour to arrived??? Not sure if they were out there fishing for fresh crabs or what? Never have I been to a Japanese restaurant that took that that long (over an hour wait) on a weekday. The waitress was apologetic, I understand they may be understaffed however it's unacceptable it took this long for simple sushi dishes. The quality of the sushi wasn't amazing... don't think I will return. read more

Conveniently located in the spectrum, Robata Wasa covers the sushi craving for the party if your business needs crave it. However be prepared to be extremely put down. We got here around 6pm and got a seat, however our waiter took 40 mins before finally coming to ask us for our orders. Multiple attempts to flag someone down went to no avail and we were told to just wait. We were just about ready to leave and try somewhere else until someone finally came to take our orders. We ordered our sushi and I really wish we were ghosted and had just left. The orders are quite small for their price point and extremely un-extravagant. The sushi pieces we got just tasted like standard AYCE quality sushi. The portions for menus are extremely small and while presentation is good, the quality of good is abysmal. While I agree this location is convenient because it's in the spectrum, please avoid here at all costs if you actually want good sushi. read more

Would be 5/5 but the natsu salmon sushi roll I got was just ok. A little too oily for me. The garlic edamame was great and same with the two piece scallop sushi. Our waitress was truly the sweetest and made my experience the 5/5, thank you Tiff! read more

Robata Wasa - Kuro Kohi and Suntory Blossom - Sushi Bars Near Me - Irvine, California

First time trying out Robata Wasa. This place is more suited as a fusion Japanese restaurant as showmanship was there but a lot of the flavors of the dishes are not too authentic. The sashimi, carpaccio and nigiri were all super fresh. But the baked salmon roll, volcano roll, and the natsu salmon roll basically all tasted the same. Although the ingredients were different, the added ingredients could not over power the taste of the base California roll. The spicy tuna crispy rice was tasty but for 14 dollars for 3 pcs, is on the pricier side. Service was also on the poor side. Seems like the restaurant is understaffed as we only saw our waiter 3 times throughout the meal (ordering, asking for the check, and returning the paid check to us). Lack of attention to customer's needs was also apparent (need of extra napkins, cleaning the empty dishes and glasses from the table, refill on water, etc.) Overall: 6/10 read more

Decided to give this place a try since it was close and we were feeling sushi. Sushi was great but other items weren't as good. Service was terrible. At one point had to waive someone down like I was in school with my hand in the air cause no one was attentive to us. They brought out the food and never came back. Had to do this for a refill and again for the check. Food 5, service zero, I expected better. read more

Excellent sushi in a super convenient location. The service is always top notch and the quality of their fish is excellent.

I've come to this restaurant a few times with my friends. The tempura udon is alright (not as flavorful as I'd prefer) but I highly recommend the volcano roll since it comes out on fire and tastes great. This restaurant is conveniently located in Irvine Spectrum, so there's lots of parking and places to hang out like stores, movie theater, etc. Robata Wasa takes reservations, which is very useful on weekends when the Spectrum gets busy. Even so, this restaurant offers a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating with good service and ambiance. read more

Super yummy and reasonably priced for the quality. Our server was really sweet. She gave us our space but still made sure we were well taken care of. We went around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday so it was pretty quiet. But great quality food, big menu. The ambiance was stunning also. A beautiful display of glass plates decorated one wall and a glass bottle light fixture decorated the other. It's located near the parking structure close to Target, so easy to find and walk to. read more

Robata Wasa - Chicken karaage - Sushi Bars Near Me - Irvine, California

Met up with high school friend here at Robata Wasa and we had a pleasant experience. Upon entering, you can see there are various traditional Japanese bowls and plates all over to symbolize a Japanese restaurant. You can also see an open kitchen near the back with chefs preparing the different dishes. We were seated right away but it did take some time for our server to come by and take our orders. Once she did take our order, it was pretty quick from there. We did have to ask for water refills several times throughout the meals because there weren't a lot of servers. I have been to several sushi restaurant and despite this one being at Irvine Spectrum and fancy looking, the food was mediocre. There weren't a lot of fish in the rolls and there was a lot of rice, specifically the baked salmon. The sashimi roll was great but there were too much green and not enough sushi pieces, especially being over $20. The karaage was delicious though. It was crunchy and light, the homemade sauce was quite good and the added lemon adds a nice tangy kick. Overall, I enjoyed my meal but I don't think it's a place I would revisit again on my own. I would only come back if it was a similar occasion where we meet up with friends and need to have a quick meal. read more

Food were good . Good portions as well and fast service. Ambience is ok nothing special.

It's alright... I guess. The food is alright but I felt kinda discouraged by the type of service they provide. This place is supposed to be feel more high-end but it ended up feeling like that run down mom and pop shop where the owner is rude and tells you to just eat and get the hell out. I wanted to order more food and tried to look for servers but they were nowhere to be found and when I locked eyes with an employee for couple of seconds (mind you, she was looking at me for good 5 seconds and I also had my hands raised) she just avoided me and looked away. Now that screams quality service! Amirite? read more

Great food and very great service! Garlic edamame was a new dish that I hadn't had before. Strongly recommend read more

A decent Japanese restaurant in a respectable location shouldn't be using imitation crab that contains colorings, preservatives, and other additives. For an authentic Japanese restaurant, we expect higher quality ingredients that align with authentic Japanese cuisine standards. I had to PAY extra to use real crab. read more

love this place and hot helped by Viviane! quick service and very nice staff! Always happy to come back here!

They are our local go to for sushi and date night. We absolutely love the staff, the quality of food, and great selection. We never feel pressured into making a huge purchase and sometimes just come for appetizers - it's a great place no matter what! Highly recommend trying the shishito peppers, and ANY roll is amazing. read more

The look of this restaurant did a good job of rasing the expectation of its foods. But a great fall waits ahead. Service-wise: 1. We booked for 16 chairs, but somehow after we sit in, one is taken away. So one of us has to stand for minutes. 2. We asked for hot water, but what came were merely warn. 3. We waited for a entire hour before we see our food coming. 4. No one come to refill water. Even when we asked. Food-wise: 1. Tempura is not authentic. Don't order it otherwise you will be fairly disappointed by its look and taste. 2. Sashimi (Raw fish slices) on top of Chirashi bowl is quite thin and less in quantity. 4/5 of the bowl is made of white rice. You will definitely enjoy it. 3. Rice in Bento box is tooped with color dyed sugar, took 1/4 of box. Not sure if this new style they are trying, but this definitely failed. While given lots of rice, another item given is inarisishi -- a type of sushi full of rice. So basically what you eat is mostly rice. read more

We were craving Japanese and something light, fresh and healthy for lunch, when we strolled past here and thought we'd give it a go. Sometimes that's how you find the best places. This was no exception. The food here was delicious and so incredibly heavenly and perfect. We ordered a few of our own dishes and a few to share and everything was really good. They were accomodating with substitutions and modifications and so we added avocado to our Philadelphia rolls and it was no problem. My salmon and avocado rolls I asked for no seeds and it came perfect. The salmon carpaccio was delectable and soft and sliced so delicately. You didn't even need to chew. The marinade was delicious. The only minor irritation was our waitress. She was A LOT! She kept saying "What can I get us?" (Who is us? Her too?) and "I'll be taking care of us today." It doesn't sound so bad, but she was overpowering, fake and too much. With that said, I would ABSOLUTELY come back here again. It wasn't too pricey, the food was incredible and I love that they could accomodate special requests. Run, don't walk, here!!! read more

My boyfriend and I came here for date night and we're both sooo disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant we both immediately noticed it smelled DISGUSTING inside. It literally smelled like wet cardboard and rotting fish. Definitely not an appealing first impression. Neither of us really like seafood and we ended up getting beef sukiyaki udon and a mixed bento box. Now I know you can't always expect non-seafood at a seafood-specific restaurant to be great, but I was not expecting it to be this bad. The soup for the udon was heavy and disgusting. It tasted like dirty water. The fish in the bento box was overcooked and unappetizing. To top it all off, the coke we ordered was so watered down that we might as well have just had water. So disappointing. read more

I visited irvine spectrum in late 2022 and picked up some sushi for dinner. Overall I had a great experience. I thought the decor was hospitable and elegant, unique but similar in quality to some of the other fine places in spectrum. Irvine spectrum can be crowded at night. I was only picking up so it wasn't an issue but you'll likely need reservations for dinner, especially on weekends. The food was delicious. I don't have the most sophisticated palette when it comes to asian cuisine, but i've had sushi on occasion before. I was impressed with the taste and quality relative to what i've had elsewhere. The presentation was good too, even for take home. I tried to ask for fresh wasabi and they didn't have any. The food was good, but it was pretty expensive though. That is common in irvine. read more

Everything is on the menu is very good. However, the "Uni meets Ikura" is advertised as sea urchin on a bed of salmon roe with sushi rice at the bottom. Be aware that the salmon roe is not real salmon roe. It is artificial salmon roe which is oil and vinegar in a very fragile casing. Do not expect real roe.
