sushi platter + roasted sweet potatoes
Jennifer Z.

Came here for lunch; kind of a hidden spot at Irvine Spectrum if you are looking for sushi! Intimate/cozy atmosphere, perfect for a date spot or a nice lunch w/ friends + family. Excellent service, and I appreciate that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We were most impressed by the Wasa sushi platter and roasted sweet potatoes! The sushi is super fresh here with decent portions. The sushi platter set + another entree was very filling for two people. The roasted sweet potatoes had a nice fusion twist, topped with kimchi.

Loved everything we ordered at Robata Wasa! We started with the yellowtail serrano, which was incredibly fresh with just the right amount of heat from the serrano. The salmon skin tacos were another favorite, with crispy salmon skin, creamy avocado, fresh salmon, and pops of ikura creating the perfect mix of textures in every bite. The A5 steak toban arrived sizzling and was incredibly rich and full of flavor. The savory toban sauce paired so well with the buttery steak, and even the veggies on the side were so flavorful. We also ordered the bara chirashi don, which was loaded with fresh tuna, salmon, hamachi, tamago, and ikura over perfectly seasoned rice. Every bite tasted fresh and satisfying. The cocktails were also so delicious. We genuinely loved every dish we tried and can't wait to come back to Robata Wasa to explore more of the menu! What we ordered: -Yellowtail Serrano -Salmon Skin Tacos -A5 Steak Toban -Bara Chirashi Don -Heiwa Matcha Sour -Spicy Yuzu Margarita

We had such a great family lunch at Robata Wasa at Irvine Spectrum! Everything we tried was delicious, and we had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The fried gyozas were SO good. Super crunchy and fresh, with the most delicious dipping sauce. We also loved the shrimp tempura. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside, and so good with the dipping sauce. The Volcano Roll was probably the most fun! It comes out in this beautiful presentation bowl and is literally lit on fire at the table. It also has a little jalapeño kick that gives it such a delicious flavor without being overwhelming. We also tried the Surf & Turf Roll, which had this amazing smoky flavor and was another favorite at the table. And I have to mention the team because they were SO kind and helpful! The manager who took care of us was absolutely amazing and made our family lunch even more enjoyable. Delicious food, beautiful presentation, and genuinely wonderful service. Such a great spot for a family lunch at Irvine Spectrum. Highly recommend!

Made reservations for a Wednesday evening and we arrived a bit early so we decided to sit at the bar while we waited for our table. We started with drinks. I ordered a Vodka Sour and my friend ordered an old fashion. Both drinks were good. We ordered sushi and the calamari appetizer, and everything tasted fresh! The service was great from start to finish. The servers were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I plan to go back! Overall, we had a great meal and would definitely come back again.

Came here for Father's Day late lunch at 3pm. We walked in and got a table straight away. We ordered some apps like the shishito peppers, calamari and chicken gyoza. All were crispy and fresh. We ordered the bento box for the kids which was a great portion and good mix of items. Also ordered the miso cod which came with rice. It was lightly flavored and I would've liked more of the sauce. The sushi and sashimi was fresh and tasty. We also ordered fresh wasabi which was delish. Service was great. We had a lovely experience.

We came here on a weeknight to celebrate a birthday, and it did not disappoint. So glad we found this spot! Our favorite was the tuna crispy rice -- absolutely delicious. The tuna was finely minced and well seasoned, and the rice had the perfect thickness and crunch. We've had crispy rice that was too thin and practically jaw-breaking, but this one was just right. Since our family loves sashimi and sushi, we ordered a wide variety. The standouts for us were the salmon belly sashimi, salmon belly sushi, and the sea urchin -- all fresh and satisfying. We also ordered the mentaiko and shrimp cream pasta to honor the birthday "longevity noodles" tradition, which made the celebration feel extra special. Our server was friendly and attentive, and she gave a great recommendation. The gindara saikyo miso was good -- we've had better elsewhere -- but it definitely wasn't a deal breaker. Overall, we were very happy with our experience and would gladly come back again.

Superb Japanese restaurant that is set in a modern, elevated dining space. The quality of the food is great and very delicious. They have a large menu filled with classic sushi, sashimi, rolls, and other entrees. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This was the first time I have ever seen double sided chopsticks, which were very interesting and helpful.

Still a solid spot! Crispy Tuna Rice is a crowd pleaser and I feel like I could just eat order after order of this. The texture of the rice is crispy, crunchy, delightful and packed with flavor. Definitely a crowd pleaser of an appetizer! The RW Sushi Platter has nice presentation, and provides a good variety of fish, so it's a nice way to sample Robata Wasa's nigiri offerings if you don't want to order a la carte. Tiff was our waitress and she was very helpful, friendly, and took great care of our table. Ambiance is casual enough for every day, but still feels upscale and a nice place to celebrate special occasions too. We had two birthdays in our group and Tiff made it special with some mochi desserts! Thank you!

We had our dog with us, so wanted patio seating. We came on a Saturday, right when they opened at 11:30. I felt the service was really good, attentive but not hovering. The food was really nice: Sashimi, Sushi, salmon Tacos, 2 Rolls, miso soup and cucumber salad. All were great. Drinks were nice, but my husband loves espresso martinis and he thought it was made with a coffee liqueur, not espresso, which is not as good to him. The miso cod was delicious! We enjoyed the meal and will go back. They didn't offer water for our dog, but we didn't ask for it either. They didn't seem to mind him being there, though. The inside is cool; love the plates on the wall, and calm atmosphere. We'll be back!

Baked salmon roll

Came in for sushi on a Tuesday for date night, and we both agreed we found our new spot! We ordered the Baked Salmon Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail Tataki, and both were an easy 10/10. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We sat at the bar, and our bartender, Raul, took excellent care of us. The food, drinks, and service were all outstanding. We can't wait to come back!

Beef Don

Upscale Japanese restaurant at Irvine Spectrum! The Beef Don was super flavorful, lots of beef, borderline too much rice, and healthy greens on top! Service was nice, checking in on us often!

One of my favorite sushi spots in Irvine! The rolls at Robata Wasa are absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Honestly, some of the best rolls I've ever tried! Every bite was amazing, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The atmosphere is nice, the service is great, and the whole experience was wonderful. Definitely a must-try if you love sushi!

A hidden gem inside Irvine Spectrum for affordable yet upscale Japanese cuisine! Everything was super fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Among the appetizers & entrees, the real standouts were the salmon skin taco and the mentaiko & shrimp pasta. The taco was crispy, savory, and so addictive -- the guac inside added a nice kick. The pasta was rich, creamy, comforting, & not too heavy. With its modern low-lit ambiance, Robata Wasa is the perfect spot for date night or dinner with friends!

It was quick and the servers recommended a lot of great stuff. We order the flat burger with pulled pork, the trio noodles and we also got the cold chili noodles! Trio noodles: 5/5 I had this before and I didn't really like it much on my first visit but this time it was EXTRAAAAA good! Maybe because there was more tomatoes sauce on it. Noodles were big and it was very well seasoned! The burger: 5/5 wow! Very crispy and filled with LOTS of pork. I like this one compared to the one I had in NY because it didn't have other adds on in it, just straight up pulled pork Cold noodles: 4/5 it was good but I thought the pork skin was kind of odd? It wasn't crispy, it was like mushy and soft which I thought was unique but not my favorite. However, with the chili oils added in, it was perfect!

The rougamou was extremely greasy, like dripping into its own pool of oils. The cold noodles were mid but the texture definitely improved when I reheated them. I enjoyed the variety and the amount of rice noodle. The broth was salty and refreshing. They have some side sauces to adjust the flavor, but I found myself not needing it. I ordered their most popular dish, the A1 set, but honestly, it didn't really live up to the hype for me. The broth tasted pretty underseasoned overall. From what I understood, you're supposed to mix all the toppings into the soup with the noodles, but even after doing that, I still felt like the flavor was lacking. Yes, they provide seasoning on the side, but personally, I wish the broth already had enough flavor on its own without needing to adjust it myself. Would I come back? Probably not. Nothing really stood out to me enough to return, and it felt more like a one-time experience. Overall, everything was just okay.

Well, this sucks...and only partially because this place ended up closing just when I finally…read morefinished writing my review. While I never thought Capital Noodle Bar was the best noodle joint that you could find in/around Irvine, this place was always so tasty and convenient! Even though they weren't our favorite place, the times we stopped by Capital Noodle Bar was usually on our way to/from the airport for a quick bite. Not only was the restaurant large (snagging a table was never an issue), but our food (typically) came out relatively quick. In addition, their menu was stocked with so many delicious options. It felt a little more Malaysian than Chinese to me, but, regardless, their collection of appetizers, dim sum items, congee, noodle soups, stir fried noodles, entrees, fried rice, and rice plates was so enticing, we couldn't help but come back to try more and more! -- HOT SAUCE TRAY I know it's kind of weird to mention this, but I love their dish of hot sauces. In particular, their jalapenos and chili oil go well with everything we've had here. -- CRISPY TOFU This may not have looked quite like what I had expected, but this was pretty good! The tofu was pillowy soft and piping hot while the outside of it was surprisingly crispy, given how it's not really battered. -- WONTON NOODLE SOUP - Pork & Shrimp Wonton, Egg Noodles We got this as part of their weekday special ($12 all-day, dine-in only), so I'm not sure if the portion size is any different. Either way, this was great. The wonton skins were a little thin, but each piece was plump and juicy, the noodles had a nice bite, and the broth was solid. -- CHAR KWAY TEOW - Shrimp, Chinese Sausage, Bean Sprouts, Egg, and Large Rice Noodles I've been on a bit of a kick ordering this whenever I see it and this was one of the better ones. The noodles were cooked really well (very bouncy), the dish had a slight kick yet it wasn't overly salty/seasoned, and the dish wasn't overloaded with beansprouts. -- SPICY GARLIC CALAMARI Ehh...this wasn't "bad", but it was definitely underwhelming. Although these were seasoned well and had a nice crispiness, the calamari itself was chewy and reminded me of the generic type you get at most other Chinese restaurants. -- TRIO OF BEEF NOODLE SOUP - Sliced Tenderloin, Beef Ball, Beef Stew (Beef Shank, Tripe, Tendon, Carrot), and Egg Noodles I was super hopeful for this one, but it turned out to be just okay. For me, the ingredients tasted fine, but the portion seemed a little light on the beef shank and the broth needed a bit more body to it (felt a little thin). -- CRISPY HAINAN CHICKEN - Deep Fried Dark Meat, Pickled Vegetables, Ginger Rice, Soy Sauce, Ginger, and Chili Sauce Not very traditional, but no less delicious. Boneless Hainan Chicken is appealing enough, but fried, too? While I wish there had been more of it, each piece was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The ginger rice was quite tasty as well! -- WAGYU BEEF POSTICKERS Pretty standard, though, not necessarily in a bad way. Although there wasn't much of a browned bottom/crust on these, I love how big and plump these were and how the filling had a nice, beefy flavor to it. -- HONG KONG STYLE CHOW FUN WITH CHICKEN, Seasonal Greens, Carrot, Mushroom, Egg, Gravy Sauce, and Large Rice Noodles This was just okay for me. The dish had a good ratio of vegetables and meats to noodles, but the gravy didn't do much for me - there was so much of it, it felt more distracting than additive. -- MANGO GREEN TEA Surprisingly, this wasn't nearly as sweet as I feared it would be. The mango flavor in this wasn't super intense and went well with the green tea. Along with how satisfying most of Capital's dishes have been, the other thing that I liked about this place was the staff. Every time we came here, the workers were always friendly and really attentive, even despite how they usually only had one server working. That being said, it has never been all that busy either, which might help explain why their closure. As genuinely bummed as I am to learn that this place has closed, it should be said that it's not like Capital Noodle Bar is gone forever. If you missed your chance to try them, or just want to eat here again, they have another location in Costa Mesa that's still open and just a short drive away. And, as it turns out, it's even closer to the airport, so our pseudo-ritual of stopping off can continue to live on. Thanks for the memories, Irvine Capital Noodle Bar!

It packed a ton of good flavor and came with a very generous amount of toppings. The Salt and Pepper Fried Fish was lovely. The batter was wonderfully light, and I really enjoyed the distinct peppery punch it had. Overall, everything we tried was hit. It's a solid, clean spot with great execution on classic flavors.
