    Turkey Dinner
    Kathy S.

We were passing through town, so figured we would try a local place. The server was good. When I first got there I went directly to the restroom, only to find no hand soap in the women's bathroom. I notified a young lady picking up dishes, but she wasn't our waitress. She informed me it would be taken care of, so I proceed to the men's bathroom to wash my hands and everything was well stocked there. As I got ready to leave I went to the bathroom again only to find no hand soap. I notified my waitress this time. I went to wash my hands at a hand sink behind the counter, but no soap was available. I went to the other end of the restaurant and finally found a hand-sink with soap! I ordered the turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy dinner. It came with a salad, biscuit, and fruit. Mashed potatoes were good, but the gravy needed improvement. The turkey was tender, but extremely salty. The fruit and salad were good. The other person in my party ordered the roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy. It came with the same things as above. The roast beef was extremely tough! Gravy was nasty. Salad and fruit were good. We both ordered pie for dessert. The pies were average in quality. Pumpkin and cherry pie is what we ordered. The restaurant has an extra room for visitors to view. The extra room is decorated in Christmas with Santa Claus as the main theme.

Fantastic family Diner. You can't go wrong stopping here for breakfast/ Brunch. We stumbled across the small family owned restaurant on our way through Kansas. Generous servings, excellent attentive customer service. Food was extra good.

The warm welcome I received within moments of walking in the door was more than enough to set the stage for an enjoyable experience. But then the patty melt and chicken and vegetable soup fully affirmed my choice was a good one to eat brunch here today!

Cool little place, good food and friendly wait staff. Check on their customers on a regular basis...not too expensive. Daily specials. Will return again . Food was on point .

Great service. We held a small meeting there and they stopped by with free grilled cinnamon toast. Amazing. They were very kind.

Had breakfast one morning and it was classic bacon and eggs. The facility is being remodeled so is a bit on the rough side.

My wife and I stopped by The Roost for breakfast, and it definitely lived up to its reputation…read more I ordered the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. The corned beef hash was outstanding, crispy where it should be, tender where it counts, and clearly made by someone who actually cares. You can taste the effort. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked too. Now, about that "sourdough." I have to confess I'm a bit of a sourdough snob after spending time eating the real deal in San Francisco. This wasn't sourdough. It was good white bread wearing a fake mustache. That said, it was fresh, buttery, and the marmalade was absolutely delicious, so I still happily cleaned my plate. The coffee is self-serve and bottomless, which I actually like. If you're the type who enjoys topping off your own cup whenever you want, it's perfect. If getting up to refill your coffee feels like an Olympic event, you may disagree. Service was friendly, fast, and exactly what you hope for at a breakfast spot, attentive without hovering. We visited around 8:30 on a Saturday morning. Since it's a college town and summer break was in full swing, it wasn't busy at all. I'd expect it to be a much different story once students are back. Overall, I'd absolutely come back. Just one request for The Roost: either upgrade to real sourdough... or call it white bread. My inner bread critic will thank you.

Of course, the food is nothing to write home about, but it's served hot and generally delivered with a friendly face. Payden was a great server and made sure that we had plenty of fresh coffee and checked on us frequently at this visit. IHOP doesn't do all the fancy breakfasts, but if you ask for some modifications or maybe even something off-menu, I bet they'll accommodate you. They do have an avocado toast option for the healthy types, but for those of us just there to eat more than 1000 cal in a breakfast setting, eggs, bacon, and whatever high-carb side you add goes down right. Prices have definitely gone up, as is the case pretty much everywhere. A full-on diner breakfast runs you about $14 now, which is still within range of the value. You're getting a nice comfortable setting, great service, and decent food. Put all those things together and that's probably why their successful brand has been around for as long as it has.
