Every one knows that while in KC, stopping by a BBQ place is a must! This place is a local favorite, the place was packed when we arrived, but it wasn't too long before we were seated. Their menu had a variety of options, but we opted for the pulled pork nachos (after seeing how huge it was from another table) and a Burnt Ends Brisket Sandwich with Cajun fries. Also ordered fresh raspberry donuts for dessert, the owner's creation. The nachos were a huge serving indeed, good for 3-4 people; brisket was delicious; donuts were warm and fresh. We stayed in Ottawa and this restaurant was highly recommended. We were sat immediately and our server was very attentive. She explained the specials and other questions we had on the menu. Started w beer and appetizer - Mac and cheese bites. Beer was cold and Mac and cheese bites were ok. I only tried one and the others w me had the rest. I saved room for the special and glad i did as ir was massive. It was a burger with brisket and i asked for the hot bbq sauce which complemented it well. The baked potato salad was really good and i took it to go and finished it later. We had a luncheon the same day and used them to cater it and the baked beans were probably the best i have ever had. Our 20th 'cue stop in Kansas, and the 393rd in a 35 state BBQ Odyssey, brought us here. The restaurant is well off the interstate, but accessible from three different off ramps. We started out with an order of house made onion rings, which proved top notch. We followed with burnt ends and Cajun fries, as well as a 3 rib (St. Louis style) plate with a side of mac 'n cheese, and a second side of broccoli. A refillable diet coke brought the order to $44.11. The ribs are very good-- lightly smoked with a tasty rub, adhering to the bone but separating cleanly at the bite. They came sauced, but didn't need it. In contrast, the burnt ends were not end cuts but cubes taken from the fatty end; until sauced, they were completely lacking in flavor. The mac 'n cheese and broccoli were unremarkable, but the Cajun fries drowning in salt. We sent them back to the kitchen to kick up to the deluxe version, using melted cheese and sour cream to neutralize the saltiness as best we could. In sum, if you choose to dine here, we recommend that you go with the onion rings and ribs, and whatever side you prefer. read more

Once you are within a few blocks your sense of smell will pick it up... That wonderful aroma wafting through the air... like a sirens song... calling you... beckoning you. Then as you turn into the lot you will be hammered by a full on assault of your nose by the most beautiful smell of meat smoking to perfection. The smoker is right in the parking lot so the second you get out of your car the heavenly sent makes certain you are going in... there is no way you are going anywhere else. There just is not a more fantastic aroma then that of smoking meat. They need to bottle it and sell it like cologne! What man wouldn't want to wear Eau De Parfum "smoked brisket"? The building is an old two story wooden building that just screams get your bbq here! I mean it just looks like a down home old timey local joint where everyone who has lived there knows you go to get the best bbq, a beer, and local charm. I stopped in here for lunch... the inside was pretty full already but no fear they have a pretty large outside deck area as well. But don't get here late as I sat and watched even this spacious area filled up quickly. Once seated outside I was once again delightfully overcome by the intoxicating smell of the delectable meat smoking just below me in the lot... man I was salivating and just couldn't wait to get a hold of some of that meat! They were busy and the waitress was stretched to her limit... lots of tables even on the deck. It was obvious I was in the right place. The service was a bit slow but you could see why. I ordered the longhorn.. a sandwich loaded with brisket, applewood bacon, pepper jack cheese, pickles, bistro sauce and bbq sauce topped with 2 onion rings all on telera bread. To say it is a plate full is an enormous understatement! This thing is monstrous. A complete bbq extravaganza! Tip: you have to try the chipotle bbq sauce!! It is so on point it could be used as a prison shank. Ohhh my Goddie, with this bottle of liquid gold, this sandwich was wayyyyy to hottie!! It was like discovering a Leonardo da Vinci hidden under a Micheal Angelo painting. Both were classic works of art but together they were an unexpected invaluable treasure! I ate every morsel. I would have licked the plate if I wouldn't have felt like everyone might stare a bit. The bbq was outstanding! The food was smoked meat artistry! Like sitting in a museum and admiring your favorite art work... this spot just would never get old. On a side note while I was here I had to use the restroom... it is a one person spot... and needs work! With this many people in here they really need to improve this situation! I got the rib plate which came with 3 ribs and a side. Very decent deal for around $12. Ribs were very tender and not overcooked. I really liked the classic bbq sauce they have. If you are a fan of sweeter bbq sauce you'll love it. They also have other bbq sauce options for those who prefer spicier. It was advertised as 3 ribs but I got a couple more which was nice. My side I picked was Cajun fries which were pretty average. I'd prolly pick something different next time like beans. However I got a huge portion of fries so that was nice! Final Verdict Great bbq spot a bit outside the KC metro. If you are ever driving south from KC, or are in town in Ottawa it's definitely worth a stop. Stopped for Saturday lunch while traveling through town. The smell of bbq lured us in and we were not disappointed. Father in law had a large brisket sandwich that was piled high with tender meat. Not fatty and beautiful smoke ring. Husband had a Cuban that was plentiful with ham and pork. And with the Cajun fries, it was fantastic. I had the PigOut and sweet potato tots. It's been a minute since our crew has had BBQ so on a random Tuesday night we placed a pick up order which consisted of A large brisket Sandwich (boyfriend) A combo platter with pulled pork and Baked beans (mine) A Mac n cheese burger ( 14 yr old kiddo) A side of hand cut fries (kiddos) A side of Cajun fries (BF & I shared) A sprite (kiddo) A unsweet tea (me) And a chocolate lava cake (split) I had originally wanted burnt ends (my fave bbq) but they only have those on Friday and Saturday nights. First things first since I live close to this place I will say it seems like they are always packed and busy. I actually heard about Smoked creations when I was in Emporia , some friends of mine had brought down a pig out sandwich and I was impressed by the way it looked and smelled . ( I wasn't offered any so I cannot comment on the taste). Back to our order the gal who answer the phone was prompt and polite. After placing my order I was given the total and told it would be ready if 15 minutes. I was impressing the order would be ready so quickly. We drove over I went in and first they had to find the right waitress which didn't take to long. She came over, rung me up and asked if I needed anything else and then she went to go get the drinks. After looking in the bags I noticed there was no bbq sauce so I did have to request 4 of those. Got home and the food was fresh and hot. The boyfriend had commented that he wasn't impressed with the presentation of his brisket sandwich. (Sliced brisket slices placed on white bread). He added some of the bbq sauce to it and said it was okay but not great. The kiddo had her Mac n cheese burger. She commented on how strange it looked with the triangles of fried Mac and cheese. I did like that they kept the cold accoutrements on the side. She said it tasted okay but not what she was expecting . She did say that the fries were floppy, not crisp like a fry should be. And that they were very oil and salty. I personally could not tell the difference between the hand cut fries and Cajun fries. The boyfriend loves them tho' Now for the pulled pork obviously this is something they do a lot of and they do it very well, it was very tender. Had a nice Smokey flavor without being over powering and was no way shape or form dried out. I did add a touch of bbq sauce because I prefer wet sammiches. It came with 2 pieces of white bread. They baked beans were also very good and worth trying when your there. Last but not lease the lava cake. It was a little on the small size for our liking we should have gotten 2. It was on point and everything you except a chocolate lava cake to be rich, moist and decadent with in smooth and rich fudge filling.... Over impression, the staff is courteous and polite, food comes out in a timely quick even manner. The house sauce is pretty good definitely try it . The pricing was over all pretty fair. I think that some items like the fries were over priced for what you got next time we will try some different. All in all I think that smoked creations is a place that serve quality bbq. Ordered a brisket sandwich & mashed potatoes for takeout. The sandwich was a soggy, dripping mess. Couldn't even pick it up to eat it as it all fell apart because the bun was wet and gross. The mashed potatoes was about 80% gravy, 20% potatoes. Very disappointing. Can't recommend. read more
