Another awesome experience with the team at Roaring Mouse. I'm preparing for a bike trip through the Baltics from Vilnius to Tallinn. Picked up a used Bike Friday All Packa (folding bike) and brought in into the shop for an evaluation. The team was totally engaged in helping me assess the bike's fitness for the trip and made recommendations regarding repairs/improvements for my consideration. The benefit/costs of the repairs/improvements were explained clearly and in some cases the team provided a range of alternatives. Very thorough. The cost was communicated to me before work started and very transparent. I felt it was a good value for the work done. The cycling community needs more people like Brendan. I stopped by a couple of weeks ago because I felt something off on the tires. He was super nice and approachable since the beginning, I explained that I had recently got into cycling and upgraded to a nicer bike; but that there were still a lot of things that I didn't know/needed to learn. Sometimes I've been to bike shops, and it's been intimidating and I've left feeling dumb. Brendan made sure to explain me how I needed to pump the tires and how to take care of them since they're tubeless. Overall a great experience, and I'm really happy I stopped by. read more

The service RM gave me was much more than what I asked for. I asked for a tuneup and was given a$500 overhaul. Again I did not ask for an overhaul nor did the person on the phone or when I dropped it off say that they would remove all the cogs and chains and charge $500. I called a couple of SF bike shops and they charge $150 to $175 for an advanced tune up that includes: * Brake adjustments * Shifter adjustments * Chain lubrication * Frame wipe down * Wheel truing * Headset adjustments * Hub adjustments * Bottom bracket adjustments. Also the two bike shops charge $45-50 for brake bleeds and RM charged $75. The brakes were not adjusted correctly and RM blew me off when I mentioned that. So not only do they up the services without asking but they are VERY expensive. I spoke with Brendan about this and he was unapologetic and went on about how busy and popular they are. He offered me $75 off but he did it in a condescending way and I refused. RM used to be a good shop but not anymore. read more

Great customer service. The person who helped us was Day and he was great. We came in to pick up the new bike we had bought our son and throughout the process Day was teaching my son how to add air in his new tires, installing his new water bottle cage and his head and rear lights. These guys are about about awesome service! Its the second time I walked in my Vado 4. The first time was a couple months ago a flashing red-light on the power button which Rowan quickly replaced the battery on the spot. Today, I needed them to assess my failing/noisy brakes. Rowan again took a look and gave me options of what he could do today, replace the worn pads and what would need an appointment ie bleed the brakes. We opted for replacing the pads which he did while I waited. 20 minutes later it was done and he concluded i didn't need to bleed the brakes. He also assessed the wear/tear on the current chain/shifter/gears and gave me options which I appreciated. Super great about answering my questions. While I was waiting his colleague was working on another Vado which the owner had walked in. He was great in trouble shooting her bike and fixing on the spot. Both these guys were great listeners and explained what they saw and what they could/should do. I think they also had opportunity to "upsell" service but neither thought it necessary at this time and were straight forward BUT they did give options to think about and built expectation of what could happen down the road. Great team! I'll bring my bike(s) back regularly. read more

Roaring mouse is my favorite shop. The only issue I have is that it isn't closer to where I live. I've bought 2 bikes and a boat load of components through the shop. Both bikes were assembled well with absolutely zero issues. 1. Pivot Mach 4 SL - Bought this bike right when it came out. Demoed the bike through the shop then ordered it via Pivot's wait list. The bike came in earlier than expected. Roaring Mouse was quick to get the bike beautifully assembled and got me on the trail with haste. 2. Pivot Mach 5.5 - bought this bike for my wife off the floor after she demoed a Pivot Switchblade that same day. I also buy a LOT of parts because we ride tandem mountain bike which has a tendency to break something (on a weekly basis). Everyone at the shop has been super helpful when identifying parts and getting them ordered. There have been a few occasions where we had issues (manufacture issue, not the shop) and Chris has taken care of us to make sure we're satisfied with the outcome. Another thought about Pivot - if you're a rider with a low standover height, you should definitely look at Pivot. My wife needed an abnormally low standover height and we found the options very limited. Pivot has multiple options for people who usually can't ride brands like Specialized and Santa Cruz/Julian due to higher standover heights. read more

Just wanted to update my review to say Chris and his team built me one hell of a bike. As a member of what I will call the three burrito club (Clydesdales are too damn dainty), Chris went out of his way to build my Pivot to be bulletproof. So far all that has been needed since 2016 is a few new chains, tires and to have the Chris King hub adjusted ever couple of years. Solid shop that does great work at a fair price. I thought it would be good to follow up this with an update. To summarize, we spent $4,500 on a brand new gravel bike for my wife. The bike immediately needed a warranty repair and the repair work was sloppy. I redid the repair correctly myself and we have seen zero issues since. I posted a Yelp review saying the purchase process was great, but the warranty work was crap. The owner who says he knows who we are decides that reaching out and trying to make things right is not worth the effort. Instead he posts lame excuses on Yelp as if this was a $200 Walmart bike we had purchased. Shocking. When you spend thousands of dollars on something, you expect decent customer service after the fact. That is not what you will get at Roaring Mouse. Instead expect half-ass repairs and an attitude that says we have your money and don't care if you come back. My suggestion is stay away from this shop. There are plenty of others out there who will do a great job because they want your repeat business. read more

This review is long overdue. Roaring Mouse is my favorite shop in SF. I've been going there for a while, and consistently have found the staff in both sales and service to be excellent -- helpful, straightforward, hitting just the right balance of happy-to-explain-things and listening-before-assuming. I've followed their advice over the years on tires, saddles, minor bike upgrades, random accessories, you name it. But these are all intangibles. One concrete testimonial: they FIXED THE THING THAT NO ONE COULD FIX! The front brake on my road bike had been giving me trouble since I bought it: quick to develop that annoying your-brake-pads-are-rubbing sound. I would re-align the calipers, reset the pistons, etc., but never got more than a month of quiet before the noise returned. The shop where I originally bought the bike tried to fix it -- no luck. I lived with it and spent a lot of time adjusting brakes. Finally I took the bike to RMC, and, many months on, the brake remains quiet. Roaring Mouse was purchased late 2021 by Specialized -- but many of the same staff members remain, and, most importantly, the vibe is the same. I live on the opposite end of the city from the shop -- but it's still the place I want to go. read more

I bought a Specialized Roubaix from Chris and Arthur 5 months ago knowing I was looking for a road bike that could handle AIDS Life Cycle, and they were incredibly patient and knowledgeable. They even had a bike in my price range at the height of stay-at-home orders when I couldn't even find road pedals at the 4 other bike shops I stopped at. I recently had to get some parts changed and a tune up (they have unlimited free tune-ups for a year if you purchase a new bike from them). Brendan checked me in and expertly answered some general questions I had, and Derek was efficient and warm when I checked out. They also have a great selection of gear, including womens' bike clothes (which can be hard to find at a bike shop). Everyone so friendly and just seemed like a great environment to work in. The shop is clean and well organized. Brendan's customer service was superior from first contact via email to meeting in person for my Specialized Retül fitting. No pressure sales and great advice and recommendations. I walked in with the goal of setting up a new wheelset and tires for my bike, but little idea how to make it work. Even worse, I showed up with incompatible parts, after trying to research and buy parts on my own. Arthur quickly spotted that error and went above and beyond to help formulate a custom plan with available parts and figure out all the necessary component changes (e.g. cassette, brake rotor, etc) within budget. He even helped track down an obscure part and connect me with the bike shop that carried it. We were able to accomplish the entire upgrade within the day. I was assaulted in SF last week on my bicycle so I stopped by to see if there was an easy access way to carry pepper spray on my bike frame while cycling in case this ever happens again. Alex helped me - they didn't have this specific product but he suggested I attach a pepper spray can to my bike using a mini-pump bracket that attaches to the water bottle screws. He then got out two sizes of such brackets that they had lying around and gave them to me - he refused to let me pay. I thought that was super nice - he was really concerned after I told him what had happened (I'm fine but it was scary and could have easily been really bad). Bought a bike from these guys about a year or so ago. One of the screws that holds in various accessories - water bottle holder, rack, etc- came loose and I was left with just one. Went back in recently and they hooked me up with two matching ones from their collection of odds and ends - all gratis. An ill-fated ride last Fall featured 25 miles with lots of gears, and 25 with only one. Ironically, I usually love riding a single speed- but that day it was not by choice. RIP my vintage Campy front derailleur, but thank the Bike Gods for Roaring Mouse! They helped me locate an exact replacement in Belgium and when it turned out the broken derailleur took a shifter out with it, one of the mechanics stepped up and sold me one from his collection. These guys have been working on my bikes for about a thousand years (I don't know how time works anymore so I'm pretty sure that's accurate). I am meticulous about how I like my bikes set up, and eternally grateful to have such reliable, competent professionals who aren't going to argue or condescend about my choices. That's not always the case in many of the local shops so I'm more than happy to go a little out of way to bring them my business. read more

Everyone's so friendly here. I needed tune up with my bike and my friend recommended RMC. I called another bike shop and RMC, and RMC really stood out as they were so nice over the phone. I'm not an avid biker. When I dropped off my bike, Derek took the time to explain to me on what they will be doing with my bike and what I can expect with their $99 basic service. Chris helped me when I picked up my bike, and he also walked me through what's been done with the bike. The shop always have some people waiting outside to be helped. Both Chris and Derek took the time to answer my questions despite that they are busy. I'm definitely making RMC my go-to bike shop. I trust them with any bike issues I may have! read more

Years ago I bought some puncture-resistant tires and managed to pop one within a mile of leaving the store. I emailed to ask if the manufacturer had a warranty for them, and they wrote back "Specialized doesn't, but I will. Come on back." So when I was in the market for a new bike last month, I was sure to reach out for a quote. They got back to me very quickly with an excellent offer, and when I went in to test it, there was no pressure to sell at all. They were just friendly, relaxed, attentive, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I wound up buying the bike, which comes with a year of free basic maintenance, and a free limited bike fit set up. Everything is all done now, I love my bike, it's perfectly set up for me, and I feel very well taken care of. read more
