I brought up some general questions about maintenance for small electric scooters, and they were surprisingly open to helping even though I didn't buy mine from them. They checked a few things, pointed out what to look for in future wear, and gave me honest advice instead of pushing products. One thing I forgot to ask -- do they work with other compact mobility scooter brands too? Mine is one of those lightweight, foldable 3-wheel models with a removable battery (similar style to TopMate scooters). If anyone has asked them about servicing that type of scooter or about getting compatible spare parts, I'd love to know your experience. Overall, solid customer service and friendly people. Just curious how flexible they are with brands outside their usual lineup.

I brought my old bike in for repair and was immediately told I should just get a new bike, and I felt like I had to pry a bit to understand why. Fortunately I was able to step outside and call my cyclist friend who confirmed that what they were saying made sense, but my initial conversation made me feel like I was being upsold.

My dog was still in the stroller, and I asked multiple times whether I should remove her. I was concerned about the weight on the tires and bearings while he was servicing it, and my dog was visibly uncomfortable with him lifting the stroller while she was inside. He picked up the stroller several times by the front wheel, which seemed awkward at the time. As soon as I left, I realized the front swivel wheel was no longer functioning properly. It now defaults to facing backwards (180°), and the tire rubs against the swivel with every turn. This made it extremely difficult to get my dog home, especially because she has mobility issues. The stroller is not a luxury item for us -- it's something I rely on every single day for my dog, groceries, laundry, and basic errands. When I told my son what happened, he mentioned that he had a similar experience at the same shop a couple of weeks ago. He and a friend brought in a bike with a brake issue. The shop offered to help and didn't charge them, but whatever was done made the bike worse. Sending a kid out with a bike in worse condition than it came in is a safety issue, especially since my son recently had a serious fall due to a mechanical problem. I understand that Spokeasy didn't charge us for these services, but free work still needs to be safe and competent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. For these reasons, I can only give Spokeasy one star.

The new refrigerant line install looks very clean and inconspicuous against the side of the house (I couldn't even tell it was there without Jose sending me photos later on of where it was placed). The response honestly felt dismissive, and almost as if they no longer wanted the job because I had not chosen their company first. What confused me most is that the room still clearly needed cleaning regardless. It also left me wondering whether they would have accepted the job normally if I had simply never mentioned that another cleaner had already been there. I understand businesses can choose what work they take on, but the interaction felt unprofessional and disappointing after already discussing pricing and the scope of the cleaning.

This is in response to Apollo K's review below. I am Chris, the owner of Roaring Mouse Cycles, and as there is no forum on this site to dispute reviews, I am adding my side of the story to Apollos review below. We are possibly the smallest bike shop in the Bay Area. 12' wide with just one full size work stand and one half size work stand. We are also very very popular and we get booked up. In the winter this is usually a week, and in the summer this can be two to three weeks. When Apollo quotes me as saying "we are booked up... for forever" I was not feeding him a line, I was telling the truth, although I am certain we gave him a specific period rather than a dismissive 'forever'. I believe Apollo came in right before or right after the Christmas/New Year break where we close for 10 days to allow Sarah and John our mechanics to travel home for the holidays, and if you add that time to our usual full schedule he could have very well been looking at three weeks. With the level of repair Apollo asked for we couldn't ingnore the schedule and make room for him. Apollo's phrase 'Just needed a new drive train' is misleading. A drive train replacement is a significant amount of work needing two to three solid hours of mechanic time and often involves ordering parts that involve delivery time. This is not a repair that could have been slipped in between other repairs. And lastly why would we be 'pompous' and off-hand reject a drive train switch on a Cooper? She's a high end bike with high end parts, the kind of bike that is a pleasure to work on and a significant potential source of income.. I'd refer you to Candy, my favorite customer, who wheels her own Cooper in here on a regular basis as evidence that you were not rejected because of the kind of bike you bought into our shop, but only because you were unwilling to wait for the repair to be done. We have addressed our busy schedule and lack of square footage as creatively as we can. We offer same-day repairs with appointment, cram in that second tiny workstation at the expense of space for customers and by run walk-in fixes on Sat for quick repairs. We are doing the best with what space we have and I am sorry Apollo mistook being booked as rejection. I think I am a 'cool guy' as Apollo described me, and since he seems to know me I just wish he'd bought his issues to me rather than venting in a foul mouthed and ill thought out way on a review web site. I was at the Ironman California 70.3 in Oceanside this spring where I met the Quintanaroo Rep. He went through the bikes and products with me during my search to upgrade my Tri Bike. After going home to NorCal and reviewing my options with all the costs and what would suit me the best and where I could get professional guidance with my choices, I decide to call the QR rep. He told me about the latest additions to the list of QR/Tri dealers in the bay area and I tried Roaring Mouse Cycles first. The resident Tri expert was Brianna Baird (ITU World Class Triathlete) who spent hours on the phone working with me and QR to get what I wanted and "needed". After a couple days we had everything worked and ordered. I hadn't even left the Central valley yet, where I reside. At that time we had to set up an appointment for a fitting to coincide with the delivery and build of the bike. The next step was actually going to the City and getting fitted and bringing home my new Tri Bike. Marrissa Axle spent 3 hours fitting me and working with the Service Dept making adjustments and such. She told me to get used to my bike and see how everything feels and come back after a couple weeks for a follow up visit for the final adjustments and fine tuning. I talked with Brianna again while she was having some components changed out to suit me and my fitting(Not to mention a bike tune-up). She gave me so much information and advice. Wow. Incredible. As two Brits with half a day to spare at the end of a work trip, we called in on Roaring Mouse and are still in shock at the incredible service. For just $50 apiece we took two great demo bikes - Chris set them up for us perfectly, lent us a bike rack for the rental car, lent me a helmet as I'd forgotten mine, and gave us a map of (and directions to) the Tamarancho Trail. Had a fantastic time, but me being za novice we were running late. Chris came out of the store to meet us so we could turn around rapidly and head to the airport. Only just made the flight and realised I'd forgotten to return the helmet. Emailed him apologising and inviting him to bill my card, he told me not to worry and to find a good home for it! It's gone to a friend who's just got into cycling and is on a budget. You don't get service like this in the UK. No wonder when Chris left these shores for California he never came back! I shall schedule some proper leisure time on next year's trip, and will definitely be paying Roaring Mouse a visit! read more

Roaring Mouse Cycles is the best bike shop I've found in all of my travels throughout various states in the U.S. I moved to San Fran 8 months ago and needed to find a new local bike shop that could fulfill all of my cycling needs. I have to say in all of my experience with bike shops over the years, I've never found another shop that is anywhere close to as accommodating or welcoming as Roaring Mouse. In fact, some bike shops are like cliques and you have to try your darndest to get in and get accepted into the group. Not at Roaring Mouse Cycles. Chris and the rest of the staff treated me like a regular the very first day I walked through their doors. Their customer service is impeccable, they're always friendly, and they go above and beyond (in my opinion) to set you up with the bike or equipment you're looking for. I just purchased a road bike from a manufacturer (Lynskey) through Roaring Mouse and Chris Lane. Chris and his dedicated staff of experts made feel like an old friend and that my purchase was in fact very important. Everyone there took time to give me explanations, information and let me make up my mind without any pressure. After my decision was made Chris went over and above to make sure that I got everything I wanted on the bike and gave me explanations, opinions and answered all my emails promply and honestly. When the bike was delivered they built it, tested it and had it ready the next day. They did a beautiful job and the extra value of purchasing from a local shop made me realize that not everything should be bought on line. I recently purchased a Litespeed Xicon at the Roaring Mouse, and I am happy to report that Chris and his staff delivered at every level. They happily gave me a test ride, and Chris patiently worked with me both on the equipment I wanted on the bike and making the deal fit my budget. At every step, my questions were expertly and honestly answered, my emails and phone calls were promptly returned, and I was made to feel that they were genuinely interested in my satisfaction (as opposed to just making a sale). There were a few glitches in the process (to be expected when building up a bike with specialized equipment), but these were dealt with quickly, professionally and pleasantly. Roaring Mouse Cycles went above, beyond, and deep to help me solve a very challenging bike repair issue. Fortunately, the repair was made quickly with skill and a commitment to uplifting customer service. Gratitude on my side. A cable on my Cervelo RS snapped mid roll in a century ride this last weekend. Brutal. Rode about 32 miles with two gears. Unfortunately, the end of the cable disappeared and jammed deep in the Shimano Dura Ace shifter unit. Serious concern. Projections from on-course techs were not good - looked like a replacement might be required. Chris and Derik at Roaring Mouse service found a way to take apart a portion of the system and retrieve the broken bits of cable. Then, they re-installed new cables and re-tuned the shifting. Up and rolling. Huge relief. It's great to trust a quality service team like the professionals at Roaring Mouse. read more

I called Roaring Mouse to inquire about headset parts and spoke to Shawn (forgive if I misspelled!) who invited me to come in to verify parts on the actual bike but didn't have that sales pitch tone in his voice. I decide to check them out and the first person to greet me was Shawn! I explained with details and he listened attentively and ask to look at my bike. After a few minutes, he returned, stating there were a few issues and made corrections that I missed. We chatted about his riding experiences on the same roads as he rang me up for a total of $12.50 for parts and labor. I thought this was reasonable considering he added a new spacer and showed me how to make adjustments to the wheel bearing, and it was a drop in visit! The five star average for Roaring Mouse is no surprise to me. I've been coming here for years. I've bought my last two bikes here and always bring them back for service. And talk about service. Everybody here is always friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I've never even had a so-so experience here. It's always great. When I ordered my first new bike here, I wasn't sure what size I needed. The owner, Chris, volunteered to switch out the frame for a larger size at no additional cost if I decided I needed a larger one. Their selection of bikes and accessories is surprisingly extensive for such a small shop space. If you're in the market for a good bike from friendly sales and service people, make this place the top spot on your list. read more

I've been going to Roaring Mouse for over ten years now, longer than they're been in the Presidio, longer than I've been in SF. I am one of the owners at a bike shop myself, and I gotta tell ya, when I can't fulfill a customers needs, the first place I recommend is always Roaring Mouse. It doesn't matter who you are, what sort of bike you ride, how silly the problem is, these folks go out of their way to take care of you. I have been a customer at Roaring Mouse for years. Their help prior to this year's Marin Century was outstanding. One week before the event a spoke broke on my older Velomax wheel. Chris gave me a loaner wheel to continue my riding. When logistics prevented the repair being ready by the Century date, Chris gave me an upgraded wheel, a Mavic R-Sys, with which to ride the event. Tandems, by their nature, are tricky to work on, and difficult to get right. Many shops don't want to deal with tandems because of their size and difficulty. I went in with my Ron Copper and I was met with a pompous attitude. Basically I got the " I am sorry we are booked till.... forever". I gotta say, I know bikes and I just needed a new drivetrain. I left feeling like I would drive 20 mile before buying a tube from them. I have to say, I know the owner and he is a cool guy, but the customer service is shit. DONT BOTHER. purchase my first city bike here for $1200. staff was extremely helpful and had all the answers to my questions. I have since sold my car since moving to the city since the parking and ticketing situation here is so dramatic. Also received a discount on my bike lock and accessories. Will be back to purchase new wheels when necessary. Very happy overall. read more

Staff was nice, service was excellent. Replaced my rear cassette and adjusted the rear derailleur in 15 minutes without an appointment, and the service + a tube only cost me $30! (I've been charged $40 for a poorly done derailleur adjustment alone). Friendly, helpful, fast and fair priced, what else can you ask for? Plenty of eye candy in there as well. read more

It honestly felt like one of those gimmick restaurants where people pay to be treated poorly! The final straw was when I went to pick up my bike. The employee was standing at the door vaping. When I told him why I was there, he crudely pointed for me to go inside. He eventually brought the bike out, put it in the middle of the store, and without saying a word essentially hinted for me to take it and leave. I asked, 'Oh, is this all? Thank you.' He just turned his back and didn't speak a single word to me the entire time. The hostility was so unwarranted it was almost comical. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere, and spare yourself the headache.

For clarity, I was quoted over $100 for a flat tire, not $30. I expressed that this seemed high, and in response, Brian explained that the shop primarily works on high-end bikes costing thousands of dollars. He also made comments about Burning Man and my bike that felt insulting and irrelevant. For contrast, I went to The Bike Hut the next day. The staff there were kind, helpful, and had my flat fixed, a new chain installed, and even gifted me a wrench...all for $40 and in under an hour. This confirmed my issue here was never about cost, but about how I was treated. The price wasn't the problem -- professionalism and respect were.

I walked in to find a gentleman responding to a 1 star review, and left wondering how someone had arrived at that conclusion. I normally don't leave reviews. But it bothered me so much to see that, so here I am. Reading that review now before I write this one, I don't see a trace of truth in what Nick noticed. Maybe Nick knows a competitor. Phillip felt genuine, knowledgeable, understated. He listened well, asked lots of questions to help diagnose the issue, and made me feel welcome. He also fixed my bike's creak on the spot. I've been to so many bike shops. Enough to know how common it is to deal with young kids (and sometimes even adults) who are still trying to figure out who they are. This is not one of those shops. Phillips not a bro. He's a great person, and an even better mechanic. I'm definitely coming back to Pink Puffin.

I started coming here earlier this year to get service for my road bike, and I've been really…read moreimpressed. Philip is an excellent mechanic, and he immediately tells you what your bike needs. Plus, he even helped me better understand the right tire pressure for racing. The online calculator I was using was off by about 10 PSI, but he explained the correct pressure based on my tire brand. I also brought in my commuter bike to replace the cables. Philip mentioned that new cables can stretch, so he told me to come back in a couple of weeks for a free tune-up, no appointment needed. Overall, I recommend Pink Puffin Bicycles to anyone who cares about proper bike maintenance.

"MERCH" Check out…read moretheir merchandise, they have the coolest cycle caps made for the local BayArea. Many of my friends have invested in $3k to $6k road bikes. We've always been into riding. You know me, into style regardless what set of wheels you rocking. Obviously, my friends are too. Discovered this place on a random whim but it was closed and then their online store was closed until end of November. The day they reopened their online store I purchased caps for gifts. The two favorites are the SF Giants (orange and black) and the Mash Transit with SF map printed on the side. THE ORDER. Delivery was quick! Unfortunately out of the 6 caps, 2 had to be returned and replaced. The caps get printed in Italy and it was not attractive to see San Francisco not fully spelled out or with missing letters. Been in contact with Mash Transit and they were very kind to get every replaced and fixed. Great service! Please design 49ers and Warrior caps as well. Until the next review...

MASH carries a very simple front rack that seemed like it would work with my bike. When I assembled…read moreit though, none of the supplied hardware was long enough for mounting on my bike, and there were other fit issues that suggested it just wasn't the right rack for my setup. I tried contacting the shop for help but got no response, so I asked to return it. At any other bike shop - and to be clear this place, in appearance and spirit, is arguably more of a bike-lifestyle shop - this would be a straight-forward matter. The unmasked kid working the door initially took the rack back, but then asked if it was missing hardware. I assured him it wasn't, all the original packaging was included. Then he said they couldn't accept it because it was "all chewed up." He pointed to tiny areas where the cheap finish came off as a result of assembly. He then offered me approximately half of what I paid for it just days earlier. This is cheap and disreputable, and for me, doesn't match my experience at any other shop; or any other business for that matter. I half-assembled the rack but it was never used because they didn't supply a bolt long enough to go through my brake hole. So MASH won't stand behind their products. And they won't stand behind their return policy, which states that an item must be in "sellable condition", in new, unused condition in its original packaging. You'd be better off going with any number of local bike shops, where they stand behind what they sell and the people they sell it to.
