I went to Spokeasy to buy an attachment for my bicycle pump, specifically for a dog stroller. Anson kindly offered to pump up the stroller tires for me. My dog was still in the stroller, and I asked multiple times whether I should remove her. I was concerned about the weight on the tires and bearings while he was servicing it, and my dog was visibly uncomfortable with him lifting the stroller while she was inside. He picked up the stroller several times by the front wheel, which seemed awkward at the time. As soon as I left, I realized the front swivel wheel was no longer functioning properly. It now defaults to facing backwards (180°), and the tire rubs against the swivel with every turn. This made it extremely difficult to get my dog home, especially because she has mobility issues. The stroller is not a luxury item for us -- it's something I rely on every single day for my dog, groceries, laundry, and basic errands. When I told my son what happened, he mentioned that he had a similar experience at the same shop a couple of weeks ago. He and a friend brought in a bike with a brake issue. The shop offered to help and didn't charge them, but whatever was done made the bike worse. Sending a kid out with a bike in worse condition than it came in is a safety issue, especially since my son recently had a serious fall due to a mechanical problem. I understand that Spokeasy didn't charge us for these services, but free work still needs to be safe and competent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. For these reasons, I can only give Spokeasy one star. read more

Inner Richmond- Small corner shop; sort of friendly; I was intimidated by the young tough guy crew, but left my wide 29" mtn bike wheels for a tire swap to road style- Got 6 bikes all hand-built but I'm old now, so fat and comfy and on a dedicated path for me- (too many distracted and raged people out there)- Well, the busy mechanic was good to stop and ask about the tubes, and I said replace them if needed- so came back in couple hours and job was done! The stem on the new tubes are aero 40 or 60mm, instead of 20mm, but that's just aesthetics, so anyway- Big Thank you for getting to it right away!... read more

Anson and the Spoke Easy crew do great work! They've done some amazing tune ups on my carbon and steel frames. I've had a few issues with some of my builds and Anson has always been able to sort it out. The brakes on my tarmac were never enjoyable and they were able to resolve it. They redid the cables and housing on my bike, and it has been subliming shifting and braking with it since. They've fixed a few wheels for me too, since I always seem to bugger my bearings. Overall, they always get my bikes back on the road better than I even knew they could potentially be. It's nice supporting local and hearing their opinions on the bike industry, they remind me why I got into the sport in the first place. It's fun to just hang out in a bike shop like Spoke Easy, some things should just never change, and that includes a bike shop that serves the local community of riders. read more

Okay place, people there don't seem to care you about getting the best bike for you. Just want to sell the bike. Also got the feeling they didn't want to help. I felt unwelcome in there. Also I ended up buying a bike & later found out that there were better bike for that same price. I was asking the people there I think the dude was name Ben if there was any better bike for the price & they said no. Ben in particular seemed uncomfortable with me being in there. So either he's just not knowledgeable or didn't want me getting a better bike? Not sure but it's weird. If you're not knowledgeable about bikes you shouldn't work at bike shop. There was another guy that was big he was cool honestly wish he was the one that helped me. But I'm just finding out about other bikes in the same price range & like I said I didn't feel to welcome there. read more

What a breath of fresh, presta valve pumped air! A FRIENDLY bike shop for a change, yeah, I said it, a bike shop that's actually free of the super snotty, holier-than-thou, what crawled up your a$$ and f**king died and is rotting away, a$$hats that are seemingly so endemic to most other bike shops (seriously, what is it with most bike shop staff??). But seriously, a helpful staff who were able to take in our son's bike for repair, and they got all of the parts ( upgraded no less!) comped, and half the install bill covered by the bike's manufacturer warranty! Say wut? Yeah, good on you Spoke Easy bike shop for a job well done, not just well done but I'd have to say, above and beyond with customer service (shout out to Luke in particular). Plus this bike shop services the neighborhoods past/west of Stanyan St. in SF. Only 11 blocks from our homebase. So quite convenient. This is the best LBS in the city, the staff is so so friendly and helpful. We were trying to get a tubeless tire installed on our bike ( trying/troubleshooting for hours lol) and the tire wouldn't seat, and went to buy some tape and perhaps ask them how much / if when they would be able to fix it. We had called around other bike shops and they quoted at least a week and $50 per tire. They asked us to see the tire and since they have an air compressor they were able to get enough air in it and it seated right away! They didn't charge us for that at all. I was shocked. We dropped off the other tire / wheel and they charged us less than half the price of the other place, and it was ready in less than 3 hours. We were able to ride the same day ! The staff is very competent, efficient, and the prices are great. I highly recommend coming here to purchase anything you need or to get any work done. I got a much needed brake upgrade from Anson. He's great - he gave me a bunch of options and found a set that worked for my electric cargo bike. The experience was friendly and professional and I'm very happy. When I was in the shop, there was a whole gamut of different cyclists getting service. There was an mtb guy, a roadie, a gravel biker who was covered in red headlands dust...and a guy with a cheap electric Costco bike. Now, I have been in shops (in SF) where they take one look at the Costco bike and refuse to work on it. Spoke Easy was not that shop. They got it up on the stand right away, tuned up the brakes, diagnosed some other issues, and ordered some parts for the other issues. I don't think the rider was even charged for the quick tune. Not only does Anson do excellent work, he treats EVERYONE with respect. It really doesn't get any better! read more

I posted a review of this place a few months ago. I just replaced my fork and installed new headset bearings. I had an issue with the steerer tube being loose, which I could not figure out. So I brought my e-bike in to see if I can be advised on what it may be and to see if I could fix it myself or leave it with them to fix it. They took a look at my issue and right there decided to take my front end somewhat apart. Discovered I was missing a compression washer on the top end and luckily he had one on hand to install and also discovered that I did not install the starnut deep enough. So he fixed He put the front end back together and my issue was fixed. All took about half an hour and I was expecting from the beginning I would have to check it in but he attended to it basically right when I walked in. I guess it was an easy enough fix to attend to it right away. Love the service shop provides and prices was acceptable. AGAIN would highly recommend for your bicycle repair needs and bike purchases. read more

I spoke with Anson at Spoke Easy SF bike store and he was really helpful and friendly. I had a flat tire on my E-Bike and needed it repaired. I went to another nearby Bike shop, but they were no help. I remembered Spoke Easy SF. They were closed, but were nside. They asked if I needed help. Not only did they take the time to talk to me, they gave me an inner free to fix my problem. They also work on E-Bikes. Nothing electrical, but everything mechanical. Super friendly staff! I've stopped by on more than one occasion needing a quick adjustment or help w/ my bike trailer, and the staff are always happy to help out (often at no charge). I used to always bring my bike to Sports Basement, but I'm happy to pay (maybe?) a tiny bit more to support a local business w/ far superior customer service and mechanical skills. Their "packages" are pretty pricey, so if you can install and do maintenance yourself ( or if you have a sweet bf who can do it!), I would do it. This is my neighborhood local bike shop and I've bought parts and one of my kid's bikes there over the years, but I thought I'd mention two occasions when I thought this shop went above and beyond. I'm a home bike mechanic and do most of my own repairs. I really don't mean to brag... I still have a lot of learning moments and hit a lot of snags along the way! A couple years ago, I noticed the dropout adjuster screws on my wife's Cross Check were bent from the force of the axle. I figured I needed to get those screws out before it became impossible, so I tried unscrewing them but they were already badly stuck. The screw heads started to strip and I decided I needed professional help. I took it in to Spoke Easy, thinking they might have to drill the screws out. Anson got out a proper JIS #2 screwdriver (I was using some random Philips) and started applying a lot of hand pressure on the screws, and slowly backed them out. It didn't look easy for him either! He advised not bothering to put new adjuster screws in. Then he charged me nothing. Last week, I was replacing the freehub body on an old Deore wheel. I disassembled the axle and found that the drive-side cone was badly pitted. I brought the cone to Spoke Easy and the guy I talked to spent a good 10 minutes rummaging through the parts bin in the back looking for something suitable. He came back with a slightly different Deore hub from the junk bin, and he actually took it apart right there to see if the cone was a match. Then when I offered to buy the hub, he said "it was in the junk bin for a reason" and gave it to me for free. The cone from that hub turned out to be a little pitted too, but less pitted. It's on my bike now. Nice folks, and I will try to give them continued business (and not just when it's free!) read more

I got great excellent service. The mechanic Mike found out by accident I had front and rear brake problems. oh GOSH I was lucky, he let me watch him do the quick repairs on the spot! Glad I stopped buy to buy a few things, now my bike is SAfe to ride! They really care about the community.. I told them by bother selling kids bike since there's no money in it. Brian and Bryce are the best! I'm super picky AND such a happy surprise when they called me and told me my new bike cranks were in!! Honestly, there was some miscommunication b/c it wasn't clear that my bike cranks were ordered (they were backordered) BUT it was such a pleasant surprise!! I couldn't even buy the cranks myself b/c they kept getting backordered lol...anyways!! I'm super fearful of covid and Bryce let me go straight up front so I didn't have to wait in the line to get my cranks installed. He finished the job in less than 1 hour on a beautiful Saturday 3:30-4:15pm. He even fixed my gears, now they're shifting as smooth as silk (almost lol). I first stumbled into Spoke Easy bike shop after i purchased a terrible e-bike online. I mean it was a total lemon. The front disc brake exploded and, in an act of desperation, i walked it down the street from my apartment to Spoke Easy and the guy in the shop was super nice. He disassembled the front brake assembly and told me it was a defective part....AND he didn't even charge me for his time! My second experience was when i came in after having a flat tire and they replaced my tube and tire right away in about 20min for less than 20 bucks. I can't say enough great things about these guys, especially when i feel like San Francisco customer service is getting to be so rare nowadays. read more
