Pros: I ordered the Nuggets and the Veggie Roo sandwich. Bot tasted great and had a nice crunchy texture on the outside, nice and tender on the inside. Con: I ordered a side of the Slaw and while it had good flavors, there was grit or sand throughout the salad--in some bites so large that I was worried it might have caused tooth damage. My best guess is that it was from inadequately washing the cilantro in the mix. In the end I didn't eat much of the slaw, and we had to remove it from the Veggie Roo to make the rest of the sandwich edible. Verdict: I hope this was an isolated issue that gets fixed in the future, but until I know better, I'll be avoiding any menu items that include the slaw if I order from here again. read more

Very nice place for chicken sandwiches. I was not disappointed. The sandwich was moist and they gave a generous amount of dipping sauce. There were also electrical outlets by the tables (a plus in my book). The people who were working here seem nice as well. If I crave a chicken sandwich, this will be the first place I will be going to fill that craving. I've picked up food from here twice and it does not disappoint. I got the honey butter sandwich the first time, and the club sandwich the second. Both were good, but the honey butter definitely wins! I got the mild spice level and thought it was perfect. It has a slight kick enough to satisfy. I have a lower spice tolerance than most, so I hesitate to try to the medium since my friend said it was spicy. I think I'll give it a go next time just to see. I have also got the fries as a side both times, and really enjoyed them. The sriracha mayo dipping sauce is great. I got the pickle add-on for 25 cents. It only comes with three pickles so if you are a pickle fiend like me, I would recommend getting two of them! On a Friday night, wait time after I online ordered was 30 minutes. On a Sunday afternoon, wait time was only 15 minutes. We had SUCH high hopes for Roaming Rooster but it just didn't "wow" us like I was expecting. Maybe it makes a difference to eat it right away - perhaps some of the sandwich joy got lost in travel from the restaurant to our home. In any case, these definitely are decent sandwiches. I had the honey butter and my husband and my husband had the club. I do appreciate that there is a tremendous amount of chicken packed into each sandwich - that was great. My chicken was on the dry side, though. And the fries were soggy and pretty tasteless. Maybe we got a bad bunch? The slaw was great. Upon arrival myself and friends were very excited to visit Roaming Rooster we had seen it on social media and also heard great things about it. However, on this past weekend as our mouths and taste buds were excited to try our eyes and brains wouldn't let us. We ordered our food and sat down to wait as we waited we witnessed a large rodent (RAT!) crawl on top on the soda machine and go do the side and disappear. Now we are very aware that DC has a terrible rodent problem but we believe that store especially food locations should take all preventative measures to ensure that don't encounters such as this one. I've ordered from here twice, to-go each time and there has been a line for both visits. That coupled with it being a new business made me a little worried about the quality and time but nope, I got my food pretty fast each time and they do a great job by taking your phone number down to alert you by text when your order is ready. After visiting Royal Rooster which takes a lot longer with less patronage, the speed is a plus. I've had the one on Bladensburg and even the food truck and was wowed by my first visits at each but underwhelmed for subsequent ones. What I've found is that I don't think the food travels all that well. Donc, I think it's best to consume as soon as possible. The other thing I would say is I love the sandwiches but I feel like this is another instance where the fries are a lost opportunity to elevate the whole experience. I would avoid them completely because I feel like they depreciate the meal. The dipping condiments/sauces are all that interesting (to me) and the fries don't have rock salt or an herb blend to heighten matters. They're just fries. I had never been hear before and it was overall pretty solid. I got the honey fried chicken sandwich and it smelled incredible, but for taste and price I'd probably go for Popeyes next time instead. This place has great fried chicken sandwiches. I never can remember to take a picture before I stuff my face. Favorites are the honey butter sandwich and the Nashville hot sandwich. My friend also really enjoyed the chicken/slaw salad meal as well. Only thing I don't like here are the fries. Both times I've gotten them they have left much to be desired and don't taste fresh. Wife got the OG nashville mild, which still had a slight kick. Dad got the OG nashville medium, said it was perfectly spicy. I got the honey butter chicken, medium ... wow, flavor bomb exploded in my mouth. What we all loved about the fried chicken was how crispy it was without being overly greasy. I didn't hate myself after eating my sandwich. Couldn't recommend it more. The fries are quite large, can easily split one between two people. I'd been hearing all the hype about this place (now forming into a local chain it seems), so I had to see what it was all about. I ordered a regular fried chicken sandwich, light heat. I usually go for moderate heat options, but lately "mild" has been more like nuclear. Almost like all the chicken joints are in a secret contest to see who can sucker punch customers the best. My friend, who usually gets less hot things, decided to go for the "mild" Honey Butter Fried Chicken Sandwich. This plays later. They didn't (don't?) have water cups at this location, so I had to cop a bottle for $1.50. The food took a bit longer to come out than I'd like for a chicken sandwich, but whatever. My light was the perfect spice. It was hot, but not so offensive as to where I couldn't enjoy it. My friend, on the other hand, was not having the best time. She was having to drink water every bite just to get the thing down, and ended up only eating maybe 1/3 and taking the rest home. I then waited the polite 48 hours before eating it myself (side note: she still hasn't noticed). I definitely see how the "mild" was anything but. Proceed with caution if you choose to go this route. Spice aside, the sandwich itself is quite tasty. The chicken is crispy outside, but a little tougher than I'd like on the inside. The vinaigrette slaw is ok too, but I'd ask for a light serving or just get it on the side, as it can be too much. The fries are your average fries, not much to say there. Roaming rooster was a nice experience, and a decent place to stop if on U St. But to cement itself as a top prospect on that strip, it's going to need to be perfect every time. I believe this is a pop up location so It didn't have the full menu. My friend told me we had to check this place out. I have definitely noticed the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich trend, as I see new ones open all the time now, so I was excited to try. You walk up to a tent outside and there's about a 20 minute line and then you'll wait another 20 for you food. I did see people order ahead, and was envious as they got their food so quickly, so definitely order ahead! I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich , level: spicy with spicy sriracha. OMG so good and worth the wait. The sandwich has two fried chicken breasts on it, perfectly crispy. I hate when chicken breast has a weird texture, but this was perfect. If you really like spicy like me, this spice level will be easy for you. My friends didn't like the fries, but I did! But I like soft fries so maybe that's why. Talk about flavor in a chicken sandwich! I got the OG Nashville at a medium spice. The chicken is nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The heat is complimented well with the coolness of the vinaigrette slaw and the acidity of the hand cut pickles. Not pictured, but this sandwich was paired with their doubled fried French fries. My friend and I went here just a few days ago. We ordered online and picked up our food at the takeout window, which was really easy and convenient. Would highly recommend doing the same. My sandwich cost $9. I was really excited for this, and I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich with no slaw. I was surprised by how crispy the sandwich stayed, considering we got our food to go and had a 20 minute drive home, but I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in the spice level. I had ordered it hot, but it definitely didn't live up to the spice level I had been hyped up to believe. I love spicy food and I tend to handle my spice super well, but before I had gone, a friend of mine warned me that the last time she went, it had been obscenely spicy even for the medium hot one. I still got the hot one, but it was a very mild heat -- like someone just sprinkled some black pepper on the fried chicken. Not sure if this is a one-off, since so many reviews can attest to the spice, but I was pretty disappointed. I got both in the Hot heat level and I found it perfect. I have a high spicy food tolerance and this get hotter as I ate but in the best way. I do not think it's painfully hot like other places I've been too. The chicken was crispy and juicy. The Nashville hot was delicious and it is what it is. It's just good. I thought I might find the honey butter too sweet but it was balanced very well, with a hint of honey, and not too greasy. I enjoyed the fries too and their sauces. I got the sriracha mayo and honey mustard. Parking was difficult in that area but they do have a small outdoor and a bigger indoor seating area if you can find parking. The cashier was nice and the place looked clean. The food was made very fast! I look forward to visiting again!
