I live in the neighborhood and have eaten at Lucky Buns a few times now. I usually stick to the traditional burger but order it without the bun. This time, I switched it up and got the mambo chicken sandwich over a bed of lettuce so essentially, a salad. My dad ordered the Lucky Burger, and we shared an order of fries. And honestly... this reminded me why I'm a bit torn on Lucky Buns. The food itself is definitely delicious and well-seasoned, but as someone who's gluten-free, I really wish they offered a lettuce wrap to simulate a bun instead of just turning everything into a salad . Being gluten-free already limits options, and the lack of gluten-free buns here is a bit of a bummer. For drinks, we grabbed the canned Snoop Dogg beverages, which were fun and different. They also offer beer, soda, and water - all canned or bottled. As for the setup: since it's located in Union Market, it's more of a food hall experience than a traditional sit-down restaurant. That said, the service is always solid, the staff is kind, attentive, and I really appreciate that they don't charge extra for sauces (a rare win these days). My biggest gripe is the pricing. I'm very familiar with Union Market and dine here often, but $17 for a burger without fries feels steep especially considering this isn't a full-service restaurant with wait staff. Overall: tasty food, great service, but I'd love to see more gluten-free-friendly options and slightly more reasonable pricing. read more

I was extremely excited to try this spot out! First visit to union market I wanted to try multiple places & this was my 2nd stop. The energy was amazing so it drew me over to the counter to order my own "Mumbo chicken sandwich" but unfortunately I was unhappy with the flavors and overall price. $24 for a chicken thigh sandwich and fries which arent included seems excessive to me. I personally thought it would be a chicken break I'm not a fan of chicken thighs on sandwiches, and they put two on the bun in not sure if that's regular but it was too messy to even enjoy, the bread was extremely soggy. I honestly took one bit and tossed the rest. I was not impressed it doesn't compete with Hot Lola's or hot chicken kitchen. Friendly staff though read more

I ordered ahead on Toast and got the Dirty Bird Bun ($14) which comes with crispy fried chicken, sriracha, sauce, shrettuce, white onion, and pickles. It was only ok. At first, it seemed very large and impressive. But the chicken piece used had lots of small, thin bits; it was not a nice, thick, juicy piece. Then, it was hard to get all the toppings in the same bite because they we're well distributed across the sandwich. And the sandwich quickly fell apart. In my opinion, for the price of the burger the fries should come with it (I guess I feel a burger & fries shouldn't even cost $20). I guess have never reviewed the union market location - just as good as the others, with a slightly abridged menu (no bogan bun :/). But the lucky bun/belly bun will do (and the chicken sandos), love the thick cut fries and this location has "patatas bravas" aka their fries served with a side of romesco which are delicious. Unfortunately, my bun had mold. If I'm paying upwards of $16 for a meal, I want it to be satisfied. Customer service here is a hit or miss and so is the food. I've been times where my food was great and I've been separate times where the food wasn't the best. It's super convenient so I'll definitely continue to visit, it's just over all inconsistent. It's in the market so there's no place for you to sit directly like some other restaurant in union market but finding seating outside or somewhere else is easy. We've been huge fans of Lucky Buns for many years and when we're lazy and can't make it to the AdMo location, we go to the one in Union Market for ease. Once a place where we'd go monthly has become more of a yearly take-out instead. Last year, the burgers were undercooked and I decided to send a direct email to management about the food quality issue. Today, we made our order - and shrinkflation is REAL... these burger patties that used to be like 4oz or so have become more like 1oz each. They've changed their style into smash burgers which kind of threw me off since they used to make their burgers more "meaty." For $12 for a single 1oz patty, I wouldn't recommend coming here. You're better off going to shake shack or other burger joints around the city for quality and quantity. Until shrinkflation goes away, I don't know how this company is going to survive cutting corners that gets passed onto the consumer. I'll skip this location and try their AdMo location one more time before ruling a once-favorite-burger spot crossed off my list. read more

I came and visited Union Market recently, and Lucky Buns caught my eye the most out of all the food stalls. I got a Hot Tiger Bun, and was really happy with my choice! The chicken has a fantastic crisp, and is very well seasoned throughout. Super juicy as well! The chili oil they use actually takes like authentic Chinese chili oil, and it complements the chicken seasoning really well. The other toppings (pickles, ranch, etc.) help balance the sandwich. The bun was a bit sad; I wish they had used a brioche bun for a spongier, bouncier texture, but I'm sure it's just easier to reuse their burger buns. My only other complaint is that the portion size is actually pretty small considering the price. I had to go grab another snack after, while most chicken sandwiches fill me up! We were torn between the Mambo Bun and the Dirty Bird Bun and the person ringing us up recommended the Dirty Bird Bun so that's what we got. The Union Market is an awesome spot with various food options for any palate. We decided to make a stop here and try several different meals, one of which was Lucky Buns. I was really indecisive about what sandwich to eat and asked the staff about the options I was contemplating. I really love spicy food and decided to go with Hot Tiger Bun, their hottest sandwich! The sandwich as a whole was decent. It was very crispy, like chip your tooth kinda crispy (lol). The meat itself tasted like it was dark meat and was fried perfectly. It was tender, and the sandwich really absorbed the flavors. Now, the flavors itself - I didn't really enjoy. The mustard was overpowering, a little more mayo than I like and the "Hot" Tiger Bun wasn't as hot as advertised. There's something about the union market location that just draws me in. The staff are super helpful and the service is so speedy. I've come here a few times for their rum punch and it hits every time! For $10 you get a nice frozen rum punch, which can be enjoyed on the go. Their main location doesn't open until 5 on weekdays so this (Union Market) is the option for lunch and earlier. A small stand for take out or eat-in at the general in/outdoor dining area. Menu is simple with Burgers, Chicken, Sides and a breakfast burrito but all about the burgers here. We ordered the Lucky Bun (added bacon) and Hot Tiger Bun (Chicken). They cook all burgers medium rare but it's more like medium which is fine as most spots don't get this right. Two patties so this is a substantial burger (justifies the price point). Beef was fresh and tasty and played nicely with the Gouda/grilled onions. I'm a fan of spicy but the Hot Tiger was really hot! Although not a ghost pepper that Sichuan Chili starts out slow and finishes with some major heat! The ranch and pickles balance it out though-loved this Chicken Sammie! For sides, It was Patatas Bravas. They put the toppings in a separate container and that Garlic Aoili and Romesco sauce were well worth the extra 2 bucks. Not the Bravas I had in Spain but thick and crispy and so much better than everyday French Fries. Service was friendly. I was so excited for a good burger, which made this disappointment all the more bitter. The lucky bun burger was terrible, full stop. I asked for my burger medium rare, and it came without any kind of sear and so raw I could have turned the sad excuse for a burger patty back into ground beef. I'm not sure what fat mixture they used, but it was also inordinately greasy, with pools of fat puddling almost immediately - and not in the sinfully delicious way.
