Place was clean came right before closing. Service was quick even though they gave someone order before mine who ordered after me. The patty melt was cooked a lil too long bread was burnt. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, short wait in line, maybe 10 people eating in. I imagine it's busier during the week, but took about 10 minutes to get my food. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Five Guys is always going to be a bit more expensive than McDonald's etc but I think it's worth it since the burgers are cooked to order and the fries are amazing. There are some reviews stating that this location skimps on the fries. I ordered a regular size and had the same overflowing the cup into the bag mountain of fries that I've gotten at other locations so I will disagree with the other reviewers on that point. The location itself is clean, wide open layout. If you want to sit along the windows you can get a view of Florida Ave and the train/Metro traffic on the overhead bridge if you're into that. It's a very short walk from the Noma-Gallaudet Metro stop across the street from the Courtyard Marriot. All in all it was a solid experience. I'd come back here with no hesitation. read more

They are pretty generous in regards to their portion size, as they give you TWO patties instead of one (at least when you order the cheeseburger). Plenty of free toppings to add to your burger, which I can always appreciate. Fries come out hot every time as they fry them in front of you! The only thing I would say about this place is the wait. Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott across the street and when we saw the Five Guys, we knew we had to come and try. Upon entering, you see a big box of unshelled peanuts on the counter (apparently they are free, but I didn't have any). The place is pretty big, but no one was really eating there. We actually took our food back to our hotel room to eat. My friend and I got the "little" bacon cheeseburger along with one order of large Cajun fries. The large order came with soooo many fries! We couldn't even finish half of it. The burger was also pretty good. The burger tasted yummy, above average. This is a good place to eat if you are staying at the hotel. Quick and easy. read more

Yum! Came here with a friend and saw bacon cheeseburgers on the menu and became excited and then saw cajun fries and became extremely excited! When they were filling our bag up with our order, I saw the guy take a big cup (for the large fries) stuck it in the bag and then shoveled up a huge heap of fries and just sort of dumped them into the bag and then proceeded to add a few more shovels full. We ended up eating just half the fries they gave (because they gave us enough for 5 people). I guess we should have read the reviews recommending that we order the regular sized fries. Whoops. The convenience of this location is cool because it's within walking distance of many government office buildings and other establishments. I had a very peculiar incident at this location earlier this week. I came in just to order some fries. I got a Little (small) because the amount I knew I would get was going to pair perfectly with my lunch. When I got my fries, I noticed the bag my fries came was unusually light. I looked inside of the bag and it was just the small cup of fries with a few loose pieces on the bottom. I was missing that second scoop of fries dumped in the bag. It's always been customary for Five Guys to dump the second scoop of fries inside of the bag. This is literally one of the many things why they became famous. I took the bag back to the counter and informed the staff that the amount of fries I received was unacceptable. This had marked the first time in Five Guys history that I received an order of fries without the second scoop. The young lady who assisted in preparing the orders looked inside of the bag and told me that amount of fries inside of the bag was the correct amount of fries I was supposed to receive. I asked to speak with the manager on duty and she informed me that she was a manager, but the other manager who was on duty would basically tell me the same thing. She proceeded to walk over to me holding a small metal container with a few additional fries that she offered to put in my bag. I declined and asked to speak with the other manager instead. If you're wondering why I didn't just accept the fries and keep it moving, the amount of fries she was attempting to give to me still didn't amount to the second scoop. When the manager walked to the counter, I showed him the bag and expressed my displeasure with the amount of fries I received. He offered to prepare me a fresh order of fries. Ironically, when I received the second order of fries, they had the second scoop of fries inside of the bag. I appreciate the manager taking the time to correct the issue, but I'm not sure if this was an issue with the staff messing up the order or if this was an issue where the manager might have instructed his staff to discontinue the second scoop. The prices are already sky high at this location, so I would hate to feel like I'm getting cheated out of something. Just check your order before you leave because many of these local food establishments have been known to skimp on the amount of food you're supposed to get just to stretch their profits and pay for that high rent. read more

Attention: This review is based solely on the fries. I haven't been to Five Guys in ages, since I don't eat burgers and have no desire to touch a hot dog, I would get fries every now and then. This was my first time at this location and it was clean, not busy at 3:00 on a weekday and everyone working there came off as nice. You have the option to eat free peanuts and stare out onto Florida Avenue or look at the many publications that have lauded Five Guys. The fries came and there were a lot of them. They were made to order so they weren't the heavy, regretable kind. They were superb. A perfect portion to share with one other person as a snack. My only issue and it is a minor one--the condiments. I am not the biggest fan of ketchup but I will do it if my only other option is vinegar. Thumbs way down to vinegar fries, even if I tried it wrong. Placed order on line, haven't been since pandemic. Little cheese burgers are NOT worth the almost $10 price, better bigger and less expensive burgers at other burger joints, even McDonalds. I really don't know what the hype is about 5 Guys. I ordered a little cheeseburger and regular fries during lunch and I was stuffed. I almost passed out from a food coma because that little cheeseburger is not little after all the stuffings. I don't know how I managed to concentrate at work because the meal was extremely heavy. The cheeseburger was good, but it wasn't oozing with beefy goodness that I throught it would be. The regular fries are plentiful and heaping with fat, so order with caution. They are soft and crispy at the same time. The wait for food can take about 10-15 minutes because they make everything fresh to order. It can get crowded here during the lunch rush hours, so tables can become scarce. This place is about a block away from the red line on the METRO, but I suggest walking it off after you just consumed about 2,000 calories. read more

This particular location made me believe that restaurants to deserve a second chance. The first time I ate at 5 Guys at another location, I was determined to never dine there again. I mean, really, who wants to dine with peanut shells all over the floor and a gallon of grease dripping outta their burger?!?!? This location was free of peanut discards. Ah...that means respectable people here...at last! 5 Guys now offer "little" burgers...which is just right for me. Plus, that means less grease...which is just the way I like it. The "boardwalk" fries are still hit or miss. Some fries are cooked to perfection and the others are flaccid...not that I expect them to be stiff. You know what I mean. Anyways...stick with the regular order of fries instead of large because these people like to overload. The fountain drinks were outta sync. I think the syrup was out. The staff were informed but they were unable to solve the problem the entire time my friends and I were lunching there. The location is perfect! It's Five Guys! Yay Burgers, Yay fries. Huge fries. Large amounts of fries. Salty fries. Juicy double patties of beef. Peanuts to snack on while waiting. Uncrowded because its out of the way and most people still haven't realized it's here! Seriously though. The food is good and it is uncrowded. It's on "2nd Street" but it really seems like an alley. Five Guys is in the lobby level of the ATF building (but the door is to the outside so no security check for customers), facing the empty hulk of a future Courtyard hotel. One block South is the (under construction) Justice/Harris Teeter/Hilton Garden Inn building and the NY Ave Metro entrance. I will have to say when you want a good burger this is the first place I will think about. They have a good quality burger at a good price. The fries are very good, and they make sure you have plenty of them to make sure you are not hungry when you are done. You get what you want on your burger, all you have to do is know exactly what you want when you are there. The staff is very friendly and they are smiling no matter what job they are doing, I have seen the staff member smiling while cleaning the tables, so that to me means they are at least enjoying their job. Visited this place a couple times when I use to work across the street at the DOJ building during the Spring of 2011. The burger tasted like something I could replicate at home and they over supply the fries. On a positive note, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. You get a lot of food for what you pay, but the food is "meh." I do like however, that they offer to put A1 on your burger and you can customize said burger sandwich to your heart's desire. What does not make up for this is the blandness of the food. Oh yeah, I haven't tried any of their hotdogs but my co-worker use to order them. What can I say about Five Guys that hasn't already been said. The burgers are delicious albeit INCREDIBLY unhealthy. But lets be real...we are not going to Five Guys expecting a healthy meal. They have a limited menu but what they do, they do really well. This location is always relatively empty so you are able to order and get your food very quickly. On this day, there was a fire alarm sort of system going off and that was not pleasant. I believe that is an issue due to the fact that they are located inside a government building. I'd heard a lot of positives about this place and being that it is only a block from my apartment I figured it was time to give it a shot. What a waste of 1,000 calories, all the guilt and none of the pleasure. The burger and the fries were sooooooo blah. They obviously believe that monstrous portions can make up for poor taste. Sure, they will give you a huge burger and a mountain (literally) of fries but both your wallet and your digestive system will pay too high a price for the product you receive. I had tried Five Guys a couple of ones back home in CA and concluded that the food couldn't compete with In-n-Out. Being in the other side of the country though and closer to Five Guys origins, I gave then another try. Surprisingly, they weren't even as good here as out in CA. Pros: 1. Lots of choices of toppings, all included 2. Spicy fries 3. Unlimited free peanuts, if that is your thing Cons: 1. The burger I practically cold when it comes out 2. I saw them put the bun on the grill and yet it defies heat and is soggy, limp, cold, and falls apart in your hands 3. This location is a little larger than the one that Obama ate at down by the Navy Yard, and has windows on two sides. For the uninitiated, Five Guys cooks up fresh burgers, not frozen. Their "Little Burger" (big enough for the average mortal) is really just a regular burger, while their "Famous Burger" is a double burger. Fixings (such as fried onions, mushrooms, etc) are free as are the peanuts, so you can munch while you wait (or you can take some to your table if you're eating in.) They also have kosher hot dogs for those that don't want a burger. When it comes to the potatoes, personally, I'm a fan of the Cajun fries. A small order will do because they always throw in a bunch of extras. Biggest drawbacks? Well, it is fast food after all, so you're not going to get your burger cooked the way you want. Five Guys makes a decent burger and fries with fresh ingredients. They have a good variety of burger toppings to choose from. Can't go wrong with them, but at the same time it's nothing to write home about. I come to this particular location once in a while. Two times they've gotten my order wrong, even though my orders are simple without any special requests, but they're always happy to fix it. I really need to stop going to this place! But its sooo tempting :( Its on my way home right after getting off the metro so I literally walk by it everyday on my way home. You see I hate cooking and its one of the closest fast food joints by my place so its just a case of being lazy. Some background info: I discovered Five guys, I want to say about 2 years ago, a buddy of mine(Mark) in Chicago introduced me to it. It was out of my way there so I went very rarely so its still relatively new to me. Now in DC it feels like you cant walk down the street without running into one! I don't know why people compare this place to In N Out. They're so different. I'd have to say it would depend on my mood for which place I'd go to. If you're into burgers, this is a place you must try out. Not this particular Five Guys, but the franchise in general. What makes this place great are the fresh ingredients, and how they cook everything in plain sight. The sacks of potatoes have the dates on them as well as what state they came from. It's a nice touch if you really want to know what you're eating. I've been to Five Guys on several trips out to the DC area. Surprisingly, I've never tried any of their hot dogs. I generally like Five Guys and would give their food 4 stars. However, I experienced this particular location a total of 2 times both a week apart and both times left me very displeased. About 2 weeks ago around 7pm I went to this location happily craving a classic burger and fries. Now I completely did away with McDonalds, Burger King, etc for obvious reasons. Any who... I ordered my usual: the little bacon cheeseburger w/ everything + bbq sauce and A1 sauce and small fries (which actually is the amount of a large..no complaints on that!). The staff that day were very friendly. My order number was called and because I feel you should receive what you PAY for I always ask "Is everything on it? Bbq, A1, etc?" I received a confident "Yes" with a smile and I in turn left with a smile. I arrived home and as I walked up the stairs, I had to rapidly run inside so my food wouldn't completely soak thru the bag because of the greasy fries falling out the damp bottom. I never understand why FG thought a little brown paper bag was efficient enough for their mega burgers x 5lb extra greasy fries?? Fast forward to being greeted by a bacon cheeseburger with NO bacon, NO bbq sauce, and NO A1 sauce. I still ate it bc papa didn't raise an ungrateful woman BUT w/o those things *to me* their burger has no umph!! Trip 2, Monday that just past around 8pm. Long story short. The staff that day was not that friendly except for the only sista there. The other 2 were of hispanic descent... I'm very friendly, a tipper, and very patient so to observe a very stoic staff was lackluster to say the least! ... I ordered the same as above except with an extra bacon cheeseburger. I personally told the sista if she could make sure everything was on both burgers as my last visit left me disappointed. She told the burger maker and he still did not comply! SHE had to step in and put the sauces on it herself! Im thankful for that but that's absurd!! ..My number gets called and the other young lady gives me a little brown paper bag (ugh) and I asked if I could have a bigger bag (remember my food fell thru the last time! Smh) and she looked at me like I was being a nuisance... After I gave her an assertive stare she brought that bag out..Hmph! Fast forward to getting home. Everything was on my burger! Woo! Yes!
