Steeze dog, Steeze burger, Nashville hot nugs, the Puebla
    Erienne T.

Our third time at Hill East burger for the Steeze pop up, and they crushed it once again! Get the Puebla burger, it's our favorite at Hill East so far. It's smoky and savory and flavorful, and the sauce has just the right level of tanginess. The Steeze Nashville hot nugs were properly hot, with a great batter and perfectly tender and juicy chicken. The Steeze burger was amazing as usual and we also enjoyed the curly fries and the Steeze dog. Chill vibes on a Friday night and great service. Love that they have a functional jukebox that fits the mood of the place. You can't beat the $2 Montucky Cold Snack and we also enjoyed the Baja Ranch Blast Water and the Orange Oregano soda, with tequila. Can't wait to come back!

One of the best burgers in the city, hands down. This spot isn't flashy and it's a true neighborhood bar! That's exactly what makes it such a gem. I stopped by on a quiet Friday evening. The place wasn't busy, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender gave me the menu, answered a quick question, and then let me take my time deciding. I went with the classic burger and added spicy mayo. It came out cooked perfectly, with a delicious bun that held everything together. I ordered the single, but honestly, I could see myself getting the double and being just as happy. It's less than 15 minutes from my home, so I'll definitely be back. Parking wasn't too bad either since the area is mostly apartments and houses, you don't have to fight through a crowded restaurant row. And one last note: as a self-proclaimed frosé connoisseur, theirs is spot on--strong enough, frozen just right, and perfectly balanced (not too sweet, not too bitter).

    Ok the 'OK' Burger

Hill East Burger serves up some solid comfort food with a twist. We ordered: Curly-ish Fries: Perfectly crispy with great seasoning--definitely a highlight! "Trademark" Sauce: Absolutely need, they do charge $1 for sauce The 'OK' Burger: Simple yet satisfying--a good classic burger option. I really liked how thin and "Lacey" the smash burger was. It was also not greasy at all which I loved! The Dodge City Burger: Packed with flavor and a step up from the 'OK' Burger. Elderflower Grapefruit Soda: Refreshing and unique, a great drink to balance the food. The overall vibe of the restaurant feels like a cozy cabin with friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. While the prices were a bit higher than expected for portion sizes, the quality and taste made it worthwhile. Would definitely come back for another round of fries and to explore more of their burger options!

Good burgers and fries. Can't go wrong. Expensive but I'd recommend to try out. They have several different types of burgers.

Great burger spot with a very friendly staff. This is probably a top 5 burger spot in DC for me. I love the pork burger and the OK burger. The chili cheese burger was good but maybe too meaty for me (good ole Texas chili) and the Lancaster bacon cheeseburger was really good with the arugulas and pickled onion. I love the Texas theme inside

Newest DC discovery & we already went twice in a week! It is super cozy in HEB, love the QR code ordering & the music playlist. The french fries are something we both dream about..just so good with an amazing array of sauce options! The Puebla burger & Tomball, TX were both amazing & we would order both (plus the chicken nugs) again in a heartbeat! Last night we went for Reuben night & YUM. The reuben sandwich & the pastrami sandwich were both amazing. Great, quick service all around as well! Our favorite place we've been to in a while!

I came here for the Capitol Jill Baking pop up called cake party! I looked at the menu before coming and it looked so good so I also got some snack with my cake. The chicken nugs were so delicious perfectly crisp and juicy. I wanted to try all the sauces so I got the flight. I do not regret this at all, I'm so glad I got them all, some I didn't think I'd like I liked a lot. I'd definitely get it again. Finally I also got the curly-ish fries and they were perfectly crisp and wonderful. I really wanna come back here and try their burgers. They looked sooooo good I just wasn't hungry enough at the time. I saw that Hill East is also doing a popup with Kevin Tien this week which is awesome. I love these local chef pop ups but their menu also stands strong on its own. The restaurant itself is cozy with some nice outdoor seating if the weather permits.

After leaving a meeting nearby, I decided to take my daughter out for a quick lunch date. She loves burgers so we decided to try out Hill East Burger. We were greeted right away and told we could sit anywhere and scan the QR code to order. I didn't mind that part because it made checkout much quicker. I ordered the single Lancaster burger, chicken nugs, and a kids burger and fries. The burger was smaller than I expected but I enjoyed it. I think all of the flavors worked well together. I also enjoyed the chicken nugs and the sweet chili dipping sauce on the side. My daughter ate all of her food, which is rare. There is a sign at the table that states there's a 20% service fee for all orders but I didn't notice until halfway through lunch. When it was time to pay, my $30 meal went up for $50 really quickly because of the fee and tip for the server. While the food was tasty, I don't feel like I got enough food or adequate service to justify the bill.

Catching up on Yelp reviews as I visited back in June. Hill East Burger was a cool place and it was small. I would recommend making a reservation during peak times. Once you are seated, you order through Toast and then they bring out the food to your table. Old fashioned was solid, but overly sweet. Fries were solid as they were super crispy. They had a great balance between crispy and potatoey. The sauces were good. Some were very vinegary tho. The Ok Burger is better than just ok (AT&T commercial). It's not a smash burger, which is a breathe of fresh air. Bun was a little tough and maybe a tad stale. This was the worst part of the burger, but it has potential. Though the rest of the burger made up for it. The patty had no seasoning besides salt n pepper on the patty, which is how you make a good burger. Toppings were insanely good. Pickle had a nice crunch. Cheese was off the charts. Sauce was very good. Service was solid and I didn't think price was overly expensive, especially since it's D.C. Overall, just a great burger and worth a stop if you are near the Capitol! Bun: 6 Burger Patty: 9 Toppings: 9 Overall: 8.0

This review is Saturday lunch at the bar for one in October. service: Ryan was awesome. Great hospitality professional. There were probably ten folks in the place and he made everyone feel welcome. bar: Handful of classic cocktails, some really interesting house cocktails, and well thought out range of beers - even Miller High Life. I drank the Other Half Green City IPA ($7 as of 10/2024). food: Fantastic smash burgers! Menu says burgers are cold smoked in house. Don't know about that, but my OK Burger was an awesome combo of caramelized onions, pickles, sauce and cheese ($12). Their curly-ish fries ($6) are not to be missed. details: Service fee of 20% added to checks. Sauces - of which there are a handful and they're all spectacular - are $1 each. Not a huge space, so reservations might be good idea during busy times. Check the hours, no lunch Monday through Friday. You could probably snag parking in the area but why bother? Potomac Avenue Metro station is one block away.

    OK burger (single patty)
    Melissa S.

This might just be my new favorite burger in DC. I had the OK Burger, and it's smash-burger style, a little on the salty side but much less greasy than my current favorite burgers (Salt Line or Le Dip). Super flavorful and the onion ring gives a good crunch. The bun is perfection, super soft but with a good toast so it holds up to the patty. And the curly fries were awesome- it's impressive to have that level of crispiness on a curly fry, I imagine they do a vinegar boil plus double fry. It's awesome. Plus the vibe in here is great, cozy and you don't feel rushed. They use Toast ordering which makes it great for groups as each person can order and pay for their own food. They also have a good Happy Hour and apparently they have a 'Family Hour' on the weekends too!

No tableside except via app + automatic 20% tip
    Doug B.

Decided not to eat here. They don't have tableside service, only pay and order on the app. They also charge an automatic 20% service fee. I don't feel like you can do both. So, I decided to go elsewhere. Fun vibe and good decor. This neighborhood can use some new choices. I like that, just not my cup of tea.

Trouble Bird was the answer to my prayers on a recent trip, where I was looking to have high quality drinks and a laid-back NON-commercial vibe with my team. We liked it so much, we came twice in one week, and I was impressed at their ability to handle and be comfortable for a large group in a space that can feel intimate. The lighting is nice and moody, the menu available via QR code, and the WiFi free and listed with password for patrons to use. We had excellent service both times, by the two folks working each night for a groups of 6-8 each time. There's an amazing happy hour deal, with discounts on drinks all Monday and reduced prices for a couple of hours on other weekdays; it almost felt criminal how generous the happy hour was when I've gotten used to paying $20 for a mediocre cocktail at other nearby establishments. And the cocktails here are really very good, probably the best in the area, except for their immediate next door neighbor. The group favorite cocktail was the Midori sour which was incredibly well balanced and refreshing, and the surprising crowd pleaser was the Hamilton Dry Float, which came in a creepy tiki mug presentation that we really loved. We had a couple of the bar bites - the spiced peanuts were well loved across the group but my person favorite food item was the blistered shishitos, which came with a great chipotle aioli. The bathrooms are extremely clean and overall this was a bar favorite for the group for our week of going out and socializing together.
