Hubby & I called in to make a reservation & was told they are not taking any more reservations & there is a 15 - 25 minute wait. We assumed the restaurant was busy. We arrived in 10 minutes & waited maybe 5 minutes. The restaurant was dead but appeared to be short on servers. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. We sat down & waited over 10 minutes for our waitress. We placed our cornbread appetizer, Ribeye meals and salad order right away when she came over to greet us. Our waitress returned about 5 minutes later & informed us they are out of Ribeye. I asked our waitress for her opinion between the walleye meal & brisket mac & cheese. She recommended the mac & cheese. It was very salty & a fair amount of fatty brisket. I also ordered a house salad with blue cheese dressing on the side. The dressing was very good. The croutons were fairly soft & tasted like cornbread. Hubby ordered the baby back ribs & waitress returned to advise they are out of the ribs.. her excuse was it was Sunday.. He ordered the Cheddar bacon burger rare & it was cooked medium, no pink. Fries were super salty. We ordered cornbread skillet for an appetizer. Not impressed. It was cooked in another skillet, cut & served in a small skillet with a mound of cinnamon butter on top. We were very disappointed in our meal. We went from 2 Ribeye steaks to a hamburger & mac & cheese. We expected the manager would come by since they were not busy & apparently he was too busy to check on his customers. read more

I ordered Bourbon Glazed Salmon. It had one of the most impressive golden brown sears I have ever seen on salmon. Despite that, the inside of the fish was perfectly moist, an impressive accomplishment. The salmon was served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, rustically blended and placed on a bed of thinly julienned, multi-colored bell peppers and lemon sauce. As a carb watcher, I endeavored to eat only a bite or two of the potatoes and sauce, but like a culinary slippery slope, one bite led to another and soon it was all gone. Roam has a lot of square footage with high ceilings, a huge bar, and party rooms, all of which provide a relaxed ambiance and plenty of room, even on a busy night. There's a pleasing mash-up of rustic charm, and elegant presentation which should make everyone comfortable. Our waiter was personable and efficient, calling to mind The Social Network actor Jesse Eisenberg. Many dishes, including the amazing looking pizza, come from the massive wood-fired oven. The huge rotisserie chicken contraption caught my eye as our party of four was seated. Upon my next visit, I have my mind set on one of those rotating rotisserie chickens. I ordered takeout for my friend who had just lost her baby. When I got to the hospital and took her food out, I had the wrong order. I called Roam and told them what happened and they said they would get making the right order and it would be ready when I got there to pick it up. When I got there to pick it up, they hadn't even started making the food AND they didn't offer me a discount or anything. We arrived on a Tuesday evening around 5:15 PM. It was just starting to pick up for the dinner crowd. The atmosphere is very inviting and unpretentious. There is a cool waiting area with a comfy couch and fireplace, strategically located right next to the rotisserie chickens. There was no wait when we arrived. We were promptly sat in a comfy booth. I ordered an unsweet tea and a medium rare ribeye with broccolini and macaroni and cheese. The food arrived quickly and perfectly prepared. I will definitely order the ribeye again. It was served with a red wine reduction, which brought an aromatic earthiness. The macaroni and cheese was deceptively delicious. It looked like an average run-of-the-mill mac & cheese. But, the cheese sauce was quite good. I added a little black pepper for a kick. I couldn't quite finished my meal, but I packed up that mac & cheese. It will make for an excellent midnight snack. This is covid dining review - all staff was wearing masks and tables were spaced out. They have outdoor seating and allow dogs on the patio. The deviled eggs were good but more mustardy flavor than I like, thankfully that was counteracted and well complimented by a thick chunk of smoky bacon on top. This is the first time I've had a potato crusted anything, and I have to say it was tasty, lightly crunchy and with a nice aioli sauce on top. The fish was under salted, but it didn't matter when dipped in the sauce. The bartenders were very attentive and everyone that walked by checked to see how everything was and if I needed anything. I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Entree and it was the best chicken I have had. Very good flavor and very juicy. After dinner I tried their Maple Bacon Manhattan. Always on the lookout for new dining in SF SD. Not sure if this is a chain or not. I've not seen another location, but the Empire Mall location is usually pretty chain-y. Anyways, I sat at the bar as I was traveling alone for work. There was a short wait if you wanted a table. I'd take that as a good sign though. The place is in demand. The tap list and bourbon selection are both deep and well rounded. It was late September on this visit and they had 3 different Oktoberfest beers. I opted for Summit. It's a great choice if they still have it when you visit. For my entree I went with the braised beef short rib. Pretty cool delivery in that it's bone in and comes on this sizzling skillet. I usually see this type of entree served as like a pot roast without the bone. There was a decent amount of mashed potatoes underneath and carrots (minus one star for not being cooked enough). There was also almost like a mixed greens salad spread about on top. Balanced the slight saltiness of the meat well. Overall, I'd put this place on your radar.
