Great down to earth vibes in this homey place! lots of beers on tap and delish hearty flat bread type pizzas with some unique flavors! (the pickle pizza is a must try!!) Staff is 'sit down w me ' friendly - cheers!

We were walking around downtown and wanted a place with local beers and food. This place has good reviews so seemed like it would be a good bet. Originally we sat in a booth but no one came to us for awhile (it was seat yourself) so we moved to the bar to get faster service. They have a ton of beers so it was hard to decide. I got a small cream ale and then got a small strawberry blonde a little later. As for food, I ordered the pizza with pepperoni and banana peppers (forgot the name), one friend got the mashed potato pizza, and another got the fig pizza. The mashed potato and pepperoni/banana pepper pizza were really good. I highly recommend the mashed potato pizza if you want something a little different. I wasn't a huge fan of the fig pizza, mostly because of the onions on it, but that's personal preference. My friends really liked it. The pizzas are a good size and we all had leftovers. Service was friendly and the bartender gave some good recs for must visit breweries in town. Would definitely come back!

The burger was amazing! Suggested by the server, and definitely does not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is typical of a bar and grill -- dark, but warm and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating, and a convenient location downtown just a short walk from Falls Park.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Get the mashed potato pizza! It's super yum. We came here during a weekend escape to Sioux Falls. Thanks to Yelp, we discovered this place and headed here for some beers and a pizza. It's a really cute spot with a nice decor and ambiance. Kinda minimalist meets urban loft meets fancy cabin. There's outdoor seating, bar seating, high tops, and also comfy chairs and low coffee tables. And it's dog friendly. Great and extensive list of beers. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders and staff. And delicious pizza! A great place for a low-key hang with great drinks and food.

Cool "L" shaped high tops to sit when forst walk in!

Did not eat any food on this trip to Monks, the Ambiance is great, it's inviting, cool, just has a great vibe! A lot of beers on Tap...50 to be exact! The bar tenders were friendly, attentive & helpful! I tasted 2 different beers that I hadn't had & ended up getting one that I'm familiar with! The bathroom was clean and I just loved all the different type places to sit from "L" shaped tables to cumfy couches, to bar stols to booths to cushy chairs & hightop tables etc. The music was different, but okay, upbeat, some rap type some pop or new age, but I enjoyed my visit! I'll have to come back anorher day for food!

Just one part of the large beer menu.

A family friendly bar and restaurant. Lots of beers available. I tried the Ayinger (German pilsner) and the local beer Fernson Seed Series #151 (blonde ale). The Ayinger was probably my favorite of the two. Had a variety of pizzas. The mashed potato one was interesting. The place had a few arcade and pinball machines if your kids need something to do. When we first got there, there were plenty of tables available. We sat ourselves, and it took some time for a server to come by. When they eventually did, the service was good. The place filled up while we were eating. Would recommend.

We went on a Wednesday night. The atmosphere was incredible and wasn't too loud so we were actually able to have a conversation. I got the Chicken Bacon Ranch and it was amazing. Half of it filled me up, so easily could have shared. Had a couple of beers as well.

When I lived in South Dakota between the years of 2011-2015, Monk's was one of my favorite spots to frequent. Now, returning almost 5 years later, I was happy to find Monk's just as delightful and delicious as ever! With over 40 craft beers and ciders on tap...this place is a paradise for us beer drinks! The tap list is from all over the United States and has a brew that will satisfy any unique craving/palate! Also, being the home of Gandydancer Brewery, they have some in-house beers as well that are legit! What more could you want? For thirsty beer drinkers, what I've stated alone would be enough to satisfy. But now, add in the fact that they have phenomenal food as well!! I've tried many different appetizers and pizzas over the years and loved them all! But the Muffuletta pizza is my absolute favorite! So flavorful and creative! Yum! On top of all of this, the building is spacious and cozy for friends/family to kick back and chat together, play some games in the back, or gather around the fireplace! The ambiance is fantastic and makes you want to stay for hours! The staff are always friendly/helpful, prices are solid, and everything is clean/fresh! For all of these reasons, I love Monk's! I look forward many future visits in years to come! Thanks for being a wonderful drinking and eating establishment!

I just spent a nice long weekend in Sioux Falls. In my 2 afternoons and evenings there, I went to 4 breweries and felt that this place by far was the most enjoyable. A tap beer selection with a dozen or so of their in-house brewed under the name Gandy Dancer; and a score or so more of select, mostly regional beers, although a couple of Belgians also. I enjoyed a fine Gandy Dancer Kolsch, then switched to a Toppling Goliath IPA, since I can't get that in Kansas City. Extra Credit points for also having a Whiskey Barrel Stout from Boulevard Beer on tap - my hometown beer! I really love the lay-out of the space. A 10 seat bar, a game room, patio, and a large room divided up into small gathering areas. Lots of stuff to look at too. A very classy western feel. A friendly crowd and nice bartender added to the experience. I didn't order any food.

We stopped here on our way out to Washington state from Chicago. It was a nice casual place to relax for a while before we got back in the car. We stopped in, in the afternoon and it was not busy at all. What I ordered: I tried a pear cider since I do not like beer that much and it was good! It was light and crisp. To eat I ordered the fried green beans. So yummy! The bartender was very nice and answered all of our questions!

One Sunday afternoon my husband and I found ourselves wandering around DTSF -- which, for…read morenon-locals, is the commonly used shorthand for Downtown Sioux Falls -- looking for a good burger place. And somehow we stumbled right into JL Beers. Or perhaps more accurately, the scent of burgers guided us there like a pair of hungry travelers following a greasy North Star. Either way, what a fantastic little find this turned out to be. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and properly satisfying in the way a good burger should be. Not overcomplicated. Not trying too hard. Just well-prepared comfort food done right. The fries were excellent too -- crisp, well-seasoned, and dangerously easy to keep eating long after I was already full. The service also impressed me quite a bit. Even on a busy Sunday afternoon, the staff remained attentive, friendly, and efficient without making us feel rushed. One unexpectedly fun part of the visit was trying non-alcoholic beer options for the first time. My husband and I are not really drinkers, so this was a little adventure for us. The sparkling hop water was surprisingly refreshing and delightful, while the Athletic non-alcoholic beer leaned a little more bitter than my personal preference. Still, I appreciated finally getting to try some of the newer NA options people have been talking about lately. And honestly, this place wound up becoming one of our gateway restaurants into exploring more of DTSF afterward. We have returned several times since, usually combining it with walks around downtown and trying other local spots nearby. Now, of course, every local already knows the true final boss battle of downtown Sioux Falls: Parking. At some point you simply accept that you are either going to circle the block repeatedly like a confused migrating bird or surrender gracefully and use one of the nearby parking garages. Which honestly is not the end of the world. The walk is good for us. At least until winter arrives and the sidewalks become an Olympic slipping event sponsored by snow, ice, and regret.

I was in FSD on a work trip and happened upon JL Beers while out walking around the city. I'm not a…read morebeer drinker, but decided to try lunch. I'm very glad I did. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and Loaded fries. The server was very attentive. I will try one of the burgers if I come back.
