Monk's was the highlight of my first trip to Sioux Falls. It was really hot out and we were looking for a place to grab some food and get out of the sun with our dog. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Luckily, they allow dogs inside![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has great dive-bar vibes but the tap list and menu punch way above that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was fantastic with out server being really friendly and helpful. Even gave our dog a treat. The beer was great, as expected. Their tap list rotates quickly so looks like there's always something new to try. The food was excellent as well. We just split a casear salad and some fries and left full. The price is great for the quality and amount you get. If I'm every back in SF you know I'll be back to see what's on tap and try some more food. read more

We got there at 4:45pm on a Thursday night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor seating was already full so we chose to go inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]At this time the sign said to seat yourself so we found a comfortable booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was very friendly and attentive and gave great service. We had green bean fries as an appetizer. They were excellent. We ordered their Monk's Classic Double burger which was very juicy and amazing. I would definitely order this again. We also had the Alther pizza which was excellent too. The wait time for our food was pretty quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place has a fun atmosphere but not too loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have 50 beers on tap and you can just order by the number. I'm a dark beer lover so I ordered two different dark beers. The best one was the Drekker Smooth or Die Milk stout with peanut butter and chocolate flavors. It was so good that my wife ordered it for her second drink. They are willing to give you a sample if you aren't sure what to order. This place came highly recommended by our friends and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be going back. read more

We were walking around downtown and wanted a place with local beers and food. This place has good reviews so seemed like it would be a good bet. Originally we sat in a booth but no one came to us for awhile (it was seat yourself) so we moved to the bar to get faster service. They have a ton of beers so it was hard to decide. I got a small cream ale and then got a small strawberry blonde a little later. As for food, I ordered the pizza with pepperoni and banana peppers (forgot the name), one friend got the mashed potato pizza, and another got the fig pizza. The mashed potato and pepperoni/banana pepper pizza were really good. I highly recommend the mashed potato pizza if you want something a little different. I wasn't a huge fan of the fig pizza, mostly because of the onions on it, but that's personal preference. My friends really liked it. The pizzas are a good size and we all had leftovers. Service was friendly and the bartender gave some good recs for must visit breweries in town. Would definitely come back! read more

It's a really cute spot with a nice decor and ambiance. Kinda minimalist meets urban loft meets fancy cabin. There's outdoor seating, bar seating, high tops, and also comfy chairs and low coffee tables. And it's dog friendly. Great and extensive list of beers. Did not eat any food on this trip to Monks, the Ambiance is great, it's inviting, cool, just has a great vibe! A lot of beers on Tap...50 to be exact! The bar tenders were friendly, attentive & helpful! I tasted 2 different beers that I hadn't had & ended up getting one that I'm familiar with! The bathroom was clean and I just loved all the different type places to sit from "L" shaped tables to cumfy couches, to bar stols to booths to cushy chairs & hightop tables etc. The music was different, but okay, upbeat, some rap type some pop or new age, but I enjoyed my visit! A family friendly bar and restaurant. Lots of beers available. I tried the Ayinger (German pilsner) and the local beer Fernson Seed Series #151 (blonde ale). The Ayinger was probably my favorite of the two. Had a variety of pizzas. The mashed potato one was interesting. The place had a few arcade and pinball machines if your kids need something to do. When we first got there, there were plenty of tables available. We sat ourselves, and it took some time for a server to come by. When they eventually did, the service was good. These are the best nachos I think I've ever had- and I'm 60 years old so I've had a LOT of nachos! Perfect amount of chips, cheese to toppings ratio. And they had fresh jalapeños! When I lived in South Dakota between the years of 2011-2015, Monk's was one of my favorite spots to frequent. Now, returning almost 5 years later, I was happy to find Monk's just as delightful and delicious as ever! With over 40 craft beers and ciders on tap...this place is a paradise for us beer drinks! The tap list is from all over the United States and has a brew that will satisfy any unique craving/palate! Also, being the home of Gandydancer Brewery, they have some in-house beers as well that are legit! What more could you want? For thirsty beer drinkers, what I've stated alone would be enough to satisfy. But now, add in the fact that they have phenomenal food as well!! I've tried many different appetizers and pizzas over the years and loved them all! But the Muffuletta pizza is my absolute favorite! So flavorful and creative! Yum! On top of all of this, the building is spacious and cozy for friends/family to kick back and chat together, play some games in the back, or gather around the fireplace! The ambiance is fantastic and makes you want to stay for hours! The staff are always friendly/helpful, prices are solid, and everything is clean/fresh! For all of these reasons, I love Monk's! I just spent a nice long weekend in Sioux Falls. In my 2 afternoons and evenings there, I went to 4 breweries and felt that this place by far was the most enjoyable. A tap beer selection with a dozen or so of their in-house brewed under the name Gandy Dancer; and a score or so more of select, mostly regional beers, although a couple of Belgians also. I enjoyed a fine Gandy Dancer Kolsch, then switched to a Toppling Goliath IPA, since I can't get that in Kansas City. Extra Credit points for also having a Whiskey Barrel Stout from Boulevard Beer on tap - my hometown beer! I really love the lay-out of the space. A 10 seat bar, a game room, patio, and a large room divided up into small gathering areas. Lots of stuff to look at too. A very classy western feel. A friendly crowd and nice bartender added to the experience. I didn't order any food. read more

The beer was very good. We had 3 pizzas and they were all excellent. Easy 5 minute walk from our hotel.

We stopped here on our way out to Washington state from Chicago. It was a nice casual place to relax for a while before we got back in the car. We stopped in, in the afternoon and it was not busy at all. What I ordered: I tried a pear cider since I do not like beer that much and it was good! It was light and crisp. To eat I ordered the fried green beans. So yummy! The bartender was very nice and answered all of our questions! read more

Came here for a quick dinner and a drink. Had the Spicy Chicken Pizza and Bob's Popper Burger. The pizza was delicious and sizable, big enough for two to split. Good crust and healthy serving of cheese. The burger was delicious as well, cream cheese balanced out the jalapeños and the bun was perfectly buttered and toasted. Burger was perfectly filling, didn't leave me hungry but didn't leave me bending over in pain either. If you're a cider fan I'd recommend the Rekorderlig as well, sweat and smooth - can't even taste the alcohol. Service was good, nothing special but timely and accurate. This is one of the local breweries in the area. With a scrolling monitor at both bar locations "front, and back of house" these menus keep you informed of their ever changing beer selection. I had a cream ale, and YUM! With hints of what seemed to be cherry, and vanilla this silky beer tasted more like a desert. I didn't try any of the food, but it seemed most the dishes coming out were pizza. It was a very nice place, The outdoor seating was a change even though the only view you have is of a train station. The front bar was kinda small, and the back bar area was very large, and open. I'd say this place is more of a "hipster" hangout. read more

Pizza was fair. Seemed a bit over cooked. Beer was on point. 50 on tap with all different types and flavors. Service was kinda lack luster, not bad, just like it was the servers job and he wasn't enjoying it much. Went in about 4 pm and they weren't overly busy. The vibe is really cool, i've been here a few times in the past, it WAS a great place to sit and hang out at - but now the staff doesn't pay attention to anyone who isn't a regular. Sat at a table for a bit and realized we were being ignored so we went up to the bar to grab drinks (maybe that's where we needed to order now?) stood there for over 20 minutes with no one behind the bar, when the bartender (blonde) came, she served everyone at the bar (including her "regulars," who didn't even need to order for her to refill their beers) made eye contact multiple times without even a "i'll be with you in a moment!" she just kept serving everyone around us. After 45 minutes of being there we weren't served or greeted (they were NOT busy) went across the parking lot to Covert which had less staff and was significantly more busy and were greeted as soon as we opened the door and served in 5 minutes We work food & bev ourselves and know how this goes. we felt personally ignored because we aren't "regulars."
