This dinner was another thoughtful gift from one of our daughters that my husband and I somehow took months to finally use. Life simply kept getting busy, but eventually we made our way over to The Attic West on a Friday evening. Apparently, everyone else in Sioux Falls had the same idea. The place was absolutely packed and the wait was quite long. At one point, we honestly considered giving up and going elsewhere, but since this had been a gift and we'd heard many locals speak highly of the restaurant, we decided to stick it out. One thing we've definitely learned while living in the Midwest is that bar-and-grill style restaurants are deeply woven into the dining culture here. Sioux Falls has many places with this sort of atmosphere, and honestly, we've adapted fairly well to it even though it differs a lot from some of the larger-city dining scenes we were used to previously. Unfortunately, the food itself just didn't quite work for us. We ordered steak, jambalaya, and buffalo wings. The steak, despite being ordered medium rare, came out drier than we would have liked and lacked much distinctive flavor. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't memorable either. The jambalaya was probably the biggest disappointment of the evening. It was overwhelmingly salty to the point where it became difficult to really enjoy the dish underneath the seasoning. The buffalo wings were acceptable enough, but again, they also leaned dry. Service was understandably stretched because of how busy the restaurant was, though the staff themselves seemed to be working hard under the pressure. Overall, this simply wasn't quite our cup of tea in terms of either the food or the atmosphere. I can understand why it appeals to many locals looking for a lively Friday night gathering spot, but for us personally, it probably isn't somewhere we'd return to. A 2 out of 5 from us. read more

It was a great experience at The Attic West today! My brothers and I ordered the chislic appetizer with two separate sides. We did two baskets and tried both fry options - attic ranch fries and sidewinder fries. Both were delicious and the chislic was perfectly cooked to order and tender. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and a fast kitchen. They also offer a happy hour. I would highly recommend this bar and grill to anyone who hasn't tried it. Was a meal and a half for 2 people, would have been a great app for 4 even. The chips were thin and crispy, the onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños were fresh and juicy. The ground beef was well spiced and not too greasy. Black olives and manchego cheese were welcome additions. The order taker on the phone asked me how far away I was so they could delay starting it till I was close. It was 9:30 at night and I was pleasantly surprised how fresh everything was. The wonton crisps are perfect so flaky and crispy. The cabbage was so good. The sauce in the rice bowl. I personally would've like more rice but I took the left overs made extra rice and finished off the rest later. So freaking good. Got mine with shrimp. Our food equally amazing. I had the Asian chicken salad. It was really fresh with great flavors. My hubby had boneless wings and he really enjoyed them as well. I went to Attic West on June 1st for my sisters birthday (she choose it I didn't). We ordered a couple of beers then decided to get some appetizers. We ordered fried pickles and chislic. The fried pickles were good but the chislic was some of the worst I've had. We had a plate with 11 pieces on it for $12.00. I wouldn't complain but the pieces were small and chewy, totally not worth the money. At least the service was better than Attic East, witch isn't saying much because I was there 2 times (after the lunch rush) and the waitress forgot to put in my food order. Made a quick trip to Sioux Falls and stopped in for dinner before heading home. We enjoyed a great meal with great service. We had the fried Chislic for an appetizer with ranch and chipotle ranch dipping sauce. The steak had great flavor and was tender. I also just loved the (cute) tiny forks it was served with. You can also get them grilled if preferred. They seriously had a lot on the menu that sounded so good and it was hard to decide! Our waitress was very helpful in giving us recommendations based on our mood and what we liked. She mentioned they were kind of known for the Indian Taco so that's what I went with. It's not something I've had before and I really enjoyed it, especially with the addition of sour cream and queso. The taco meat had a slight spiciness, but it was not overpowering or too hot. The taco was huge and I couldn't finish it all even though I really wanted to. My husband went with the Drunken Wilbur burger with Attic ranch fries, cooked medium well per request. It was very good. Tons of flavor, cooked perfectly and the seasoned fries were also great. Overall, we had a very good meal and great service!
