Kid's bbq ribs meal
Susan S.

This is a review primarily for the kid's menu--Roadside bbq is a convenient and kid-friendly option id you're in the Northgate area. I was looking for somewhere to get my daughter dinner to pass the time while my younger daughter was in gymnastics at Flying Dutchman in Northgate mall. We had planned to go to ounces outdoors, but it was closed for a private event. Two of the three other options are Mexican restaurants and my spice-averse kid won't try Mexican food. So we gave Roadside bbq a try. I was particularly pleased that the kid's menu offered some alternatives to the standard chicken nuggets. She chose the kid's bbq ribs, which came in a just-right portion and was not spicy. I had a chicken sandwich, which was also portioned just right (not the usual huge fast casual portions) and was also mild (I wouldn't mind a little more seasoning, but it was fine). Prices were reasonable. Inside, there's a soft serve machine with a sign that says "free soft serve--ask for a cup." So we did after we ate and were given small cups for just right portions of soft serve. We had our dog with us, so were happy with the outdoor tables.

What a beautiful building! I ordered a half rack of ribs, 3 cheese Mac n cheese and side salad. Then I saw the mini pecan pie - couldn't pass that up! Only one diner in the restaurant, so I was taken care of right away. I thought I would eat in the way home, but the aroma from the smoked ribs had me chowing down before driving away. The salad was fresh and complicated - with a couple kinds of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn and I don't know what else. Really good! The Mac n cheese had a great flavor and texture - simple, just the way I like it. The ribs were super tender and had a nice char or bark. Maybe they were just barbecued, if there was smoke flavor, it was delicate. Mildly spiced as well. The pecan pie was very dense. What is usually a kind of soft custard, has a more dense consistency and almost a brown sugar flavor. Also very rich, as most pecan pies are. The dining areas inside and outside are inviting. All very clean. A lot of decor on the walls. I rarely work in this area, but Katie is from San Rafael, so we may be back!

Service was very good great family ambience. As you walk in it smells delicious. Food tasted amazing.

Spicy Texas Cheesesteak (chicken)

Have seen this place hundreds of times over 15 years but never tried it. Decided to today, Sunday, for lunch. I thought my sandwich was solid. Nice toasted roll, and a decent serving of chicken veggies and cheese. I typically like cole slaw and theirs is very ginger forward which I didn't mind, not creamy like other places. The order was out in a very reasonable amount of time and over half the tables were full. I'd come here again for this sandwich. Nothing was over the top amazing, but very solid.

Fried chicken pre fried and held warm and cooked in oil dirty oil

Wow- the manager / crew leader was very nice and that the star for the visit. I tasted the bbq sauce and it was good. I was told the fried chicken was a go to item and very good. I should have asked if it was deep fried to order. It was not. It was luke warm, dry and flavorless. The oil it was cooked in a few hours ago was old and the chicken was dark in color and tasted burnt. It was pre fried and held hot in a drawer in my guess. The bbq pork ribs - huge disappointment. Smoked ok but held warm and the tossed on the grill for maybe two minutes and the bbq sauce was poured on top. They didn't even bother to caramelize the sauce on the ribs. Ribs were not competition grade as they were way too 'fall of the bone' and lacked structure to them. Just mushy, and not real flavor. Not enough bbq sauce. Again, just poured on top. Bbq sauce should accentuate the flavor of the protein a touch. This was poor execution on various levels, and many of them. Salad are served cold and should not be served with hot sides I t the same plate. Disappointing. Nice counter person/ Manager. Poor food execution.

Tender baby back ribs but not much smoke flavor. BBQ sauce had little depth, more like a good bottled. Garlic fries were delicious!

What didn't I consume? Chicken, which was offered as an alternative to the ribs. Also, beans. Despite signage that seemed to indicate that your choice of protein would be accompanied by the 3 side dishes (beans, mac & cheese, and cole slaw) someone was concerned that they might run out of food. The result? Guests were instead offered beans or mac & cheese, but not both. Bummer. I really wanted to try everything they had. If you hire these folks, make sure that you've ordered enough food for all of your guests to sample the full array lest they leave marginally dissatisfied. Not dissatisfied with anything they had, mind you, only with what they didn't have. If I were looking to hire someone to cater an event I'd certainly consider Forrest Fire BBQ. If I were attending an event and saw that Forrest Fire BBQ was being served up, even better.

A couple of outdoor areas, some under shade with picnic tables. Located in Marin County, California, The Lodge in Fairfax is an iconic, historic establishment built in 1908 by the Arbini and Segale families as The Old Timer's Saloon, serving as the town's very first bar. After years of being utilized differently, the building underwent an extensive two-year restoration. The owners of the San Francisco bike shop Big Swingin' Cycles purchased the property, upgrading its infrastructure, adding a kitchen, and building a large, dog-friendly outdoor beer garden. You get that feeling that you really are at a lodge at the lake in Wisconsin. At least for a minute, it brings back memories. However, in place of the white and red pine trees are the gorgeous redwoods providing shade. Nice tap beer list with healthy portions served. I had the mushroom tacos, vegetarian style with a little salad and chips $10 and a half a beer. My lunch mate had the summer salad with chicken added $25 bucks which is a little steep, but certainly enough for two people. Served in a very large bowl. It's quite impressive. I would forgo the protein and save the six bucks extra. Great spot, great service, great ambience, great food, and beer. Walk, drive your car, or bicycle in. There are a bike racks and some parking on site.

Terra Linda/San Rafael the MONK'S KETTLE:…read more The Monk's Kettle is a renowned craft beer bar and gastropub that originally opened in San Francisco's Mission District in December 2007- The name pays tribute to Belgian Trappist monks, who historically brewed beer in kettles centuries before modern craft brewing. I've known about this old school strip mall neighborhood spot for a long time. It just never grabbed me as I kept conjuring up that "Looney Tunes" cartoon imagery from my childhood. The "cannibal cauldron" trope where the lost tourist, or would be colonizer ends up boiling with carrots and onions in a life size cauldron stirred by a local native with a bone through his nose sporting a grin from ear to ear! That racist old school imagery meant to be humorous. I passed by several times over the years, and I kept seeing in my rather twisted mind, the Dalai Lama boiling in a kettle. After all, it is called the "MONK'S KETTLE". However, lately I've been reading a lot about this place and the good reviews, on " NEXT-DOOR" and on "YELP" and on "INSTAGRAM". So today I found myself checking it out and so happy that I did. A very interesting and diverse menu to include a few items for vegetarians. I decided on this nice selection: saag paneer wrap, garam masala spinach & onions, coconut curry red lentil spread melty cheese, pressed spinach tortilla, side of cucumber yogurt sauce (v) $18. served with house pickles and chips ~ what a perfectly delicious well presented unique meal. Also, the portion was massive and enough for two people so I'm bringing the other half home. As my beverage, I chose this in a beautiful Pilsner glass rather refreshing: Reality Czeck * Moonlight * Czech-Style Pilsner * Santa Rosa, CA * 4.9% ABV .. 14oz Draft $8.5 Well, I'm glad I stumbled in and I'll be back frequently. Great selections excellent service, calming nice atmosphere.

It's a large space with indoor and some outdoor seating. We ordered two smash burgers: one with the included house-made chips and the other with a side of fries. I opted to skip the "special sauce" because I'm not a fan of Thousand Island dressing. The included pickles were also a little too sour for my taste. The burgers were delicious! The potato buns were soft, toppings were plentiful, and the 3-ounce size was perfect for lunch. Service was fast, and everyone was very helpful and friendly. I will definitely return!
