I can't speak to any of the specialty drinks, because I only get plain black coffee or sometimes plain iced tea. These are always good, as are the prices & service. What I do have issue with is the inconsistency of the food. Last time I was in I got a bagel with cream cheese. It was superb - a soft, lightly toasted bagel topped with a generous spread of cream cheese. This morning I got another bagel - total 180 from the bagel I had last time. This bagel was tough & rubbery, to the point that I could not bite a chunk off. I'm guessing it was stale, maybe from the same batch I had 2 weeks ago. I've had similar experiences with other food items there. They can be excellent one day, & mediocre the next. This inconsistency is my only complaint. I will continue to come here for my drink cravings (& because it's very convenient to my neighborhood), but I don't think I'm as likely to order food. read more

Ordered a latte and avocado toast. Coffee was way too hot and it did not even cool down after an hour. It was acidic and I am not sure if it always tastes like that or if they burned it. The avocado toast alone was $4.50 and it was a single piece of bread with grocery store avocado spread. They also yelled across the entire coffee shop telling a group of teenagers to leave the outside food they brought, outside. There was a sign on the door that said no outside food/drink so they were not following the rules but you could easily go up to them and ask them instead of yelling in front of everyone inside. I've gotten a little tired of making my own coffee at home and Roadrunner hit the spot. I've gone back several times since just to try different things and they've got some of the best "frou frou" drinks as well as plain coffee. It's got to be the beans. My favorite is the white chocolate mocha if I'm not gonna get the regular coffee. They've also got a fantastic bakery selection. The bear claw is out of this world and I haven't had a bad muffin. Even the bagels taste fresh. If you're on the NW side of town, definitely check them out. So much better than those big brands that have slowly moved in on every corner. read more

At first glance, Roadrunner looks like your typical coffee shop but it offers lots more than what meets the eye. You're greeted with a wide variety of pastries including bear claws and cinnamon rolls and jalapeno, sesame, and everything bagels. They also have your standard mocha, latte, expresso, etc. They differ from most coffee shops because they offer 4 or 5 beers on tap and some other canned beers. In addition, they have a breakfast and lunch menu. You could easily pass a couple of hours by sipping and eating. I ordered a matcha latte with cashew milk. The cashew added creaminess and subtle hints of nut. It's nice that they offer almond and soy milk as nut and plant based milk alternatives. WiFi, board games, and a partially covered patio makes it a good hangout spot. Note, they still don't have Dragoon IPA on tap but it is available in a can. What a wonderful local coffee shop! I was looking for an espresso early on a Sunday morning and didn't want to stop at a chain store. The folks at Roadrunner were super friendly and the espresso was beautifully smooth and had a great flavor. You can tell that the employees know all of the regulars in the shop, and that attitude plus the music and the decor make for a very relaxing atmosphere to enjoy your coffee in the morning! Stopped here for the first time though we live nearby. Will have to come here more often. They have a very extensive menu - I had a mocha and my spouse a latte. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our beverages were excellent - mochas can be overly sweet, but mine was just right. We sat outside on the patio, thought the interior was also very inviting. They need to update their patio furniture a bit, my wife thought she might fall through the chair where the upholstery was giving way. The place can be a little tough to find - it's at the corner of Thornydale and Linda Vista in the Safeway plaza, but the store front faces away from the road so not easy to see. read more

I really want to love this coffee shop but unfortunately they can never get my order right. I've always ordered the same thing. 20oz iced jittery javelina with almond milk and 2 add shots. Nothing over the top or complicated. The handfuls of times I have come by I'm the only car in the drive thru and I still am handed the wrong drink. One time I received a dirty chai with regular milk that I couldn't drink. The next time I thought maybe the chai was a fluke so I went back and I got what tasted like drip coffee with 2% in it. The times I have had my correct order and the espresso shots weren't burnt, the coffee has been tasty and employees are friendly. I guess I need to get in the habit of not driving off assuming I have my coffee and not someone else's. I'll give it another shot here, the only shop on my way to work. read more

My favorite drink is their matcha mist and my favorite way to have it is blended--so delicious on a hot summer day! They also have food and my mom especially likes their smoothie options. This is very close to us and I felt bad that we had not been in a while, so we decided to go for our morning breakfast and coffee today (husband, 2.5 year old and our dog plus me) intending to support local business. I walked in with my mask on while the others waited outside since our dog was with us and we thought it fortunate the patio was empty so we would stay and eat versus walking the food and coffee back home. Once inside (again, mask on) I saw all of the tables setup just as close as always and not marked for social distancing, about 9 customers sitting inside and only 1 wearing a mask, but also all three employees without masks or gloves and less than 6 feet from customers when taking orders. I walked out and my family walked back home...not returning if they aren't taking the pandemic and customer health seriously. Very disappointed given the community spread of COVID we still see in the county. read more

It's literally been years since I was last here. I'm visiting family in the area, & knew I could count on this place for a great coffee & comfortable atmosphere. Their website changed over the years - still not the most compact, navigable, & user-friendly - but it has the info you need. I was so excited to see they've also expanded to include hard/spiked coffee, beer, and other alcoholic beverages, although I didn't partake this weekend. I walked up to find they had a board with seasonal specials not listed on the website. I've been searching since Dec 1st for a place offering an eggnog latte - & FINALLY! - I found one! & not only that - it was DELICIOUS! I appreciate that they had the shakers of cinnamon, etc on the bar. It was the perfect hot & cozy beverage to sip on & warm yourself from the inside-out. I also had to get a bear claw. I remember the pastries being large & fresh - but this was even more gigantic than I remember! The filling was so flavorful, & you were able to have some in every bite as opposed to just pastry with a tiny strip of paste. They have more tables than my last visit - maybe a little crowded, but the last 2 days there weren't too many people so it still felt comfortable. It was a little cold/windy to sit outside, but I'd love to use their patio again sometime! The spaces looked clean & accessible. Temperature inside was comfortable, lighting good. The digital menu board was nice, but a little cluttered by the bottom: the time-lapse carousel of specialty drinks could move a little faster. Lastly, the baristas were all very friendly. & they'll find the answers for you! - a couple of ladies came in & asked about the flavor profile of a listed tea. The gal at the counter wasn't sure, so she pulled the entire bag out & read off the labels. Sold! On top of that, the ladies had a small boy with them. When making the hot chocolate they also ordered, she asked if it was for him & if they'd like it made a little less hot so he could sip it comfortably. It's one of my favorite local shops in this area. The coffee is great, they have lots of options and gloves to choose from. My roommate is that girl that orders her coffee with 12 sets of instructions to go with it and they make hers great everytime. The breakfast foods are also delicious. The lotus fusions are good, but the wait times to get anything is way too long. I've been there 4 times and the wait times have been between 15 and 45 minutes! I went through the drive through each time. The speaker is way past the menu so if you forget what you want you have to have some flexibility and finesse to turn your head 180 degrees to somehow see the sign. read more

Great local coffee house in Northwest Tucson. Good coffee and friendly staff. The have indoor seating as well as an outdoor patio area with shading for the afternoon sun. I came in here a couple times over the past few days as I was in town for travel. Each time I tried something different on the menu and all the options were great, I loved their sandwiches and coffee. I stayed for their Saturday night live music and it was a lot of fun, perfect acoustic music and the singer was good. The place was busy, but we could still have a conversation. I love that they have beer options and I particularly enjoyed their newest frozen cocktail "the Haboob" which was perfect for the warm evening. Will come back any time I'm in the area! The coffee is good but got a breakfast bacon burrito on the way to work last week and it was the most disgusting burrito ever! Maybe they are frozen and they heat up but minced bacon, disgusting hard potato mixed in with what tasted like powdered eggs and velveeta cheese. Barf!!! Way over priced $6 burrito because it is also the size of the $1 frozen burritos you get at the grocery store. Next time I will drive a little further and get a fresh made much larger burrito at a fast food restaurant or the premade breakfast burritos at a gas station which would be far better than the garbage served. Maybe you can take burritos off the menu completely because its not your thing. read more

I ordered a latte and waited. I tried to get the attention of the baristas, who assiduously ignored me. This meant that I had to wait at the end of the line to ask where my coffee might be. I checked my payment confirmation email and saw that it had been 18 min. since I had ordered. I noted this to a certain barista. Rather than apologize, she asked me what drink it was and the size. I left a pregnant pause, to which she was either oblivious or which she dutifully ignored. She said that it would be a minute. Wait, what? I asked her why she wouldn't apologize. She ignored me. I posed the question at least three (3) more times, appealing to the values her parents and coaches might have taught her. She ignored me each time, but her friend chimed in and told me that the drink would be right up. I asked her what the source of her pride and arrogance was, and she ignored me, except to say that she'd already apologized (she hadn't). After I was seated, a man approached claiming to be the owner. He did not offer to shake my hand or offer his name. He did not sit at my table or ask to be seated. Rather, he hovered creepily and menacingly over me. He asked me what happened, and I quietly told him (I felt it was poor taste to hold the conversation publicly inside the café's lone room, within earshot of staff and other patrons). I kept looking outside, indicating with my body language that I would prefer to have this conversation privately on the patio, but he ignored me. Instead, he kept asking me whether I was upset about the wait. I told him no: I was prepared to overlook the wait provided I received an appropriate apology. He kept repeating his question, as if he had heard nothing I had just told him. I said that to err is human, but the common courtesy of an apology tends to smooth over many sins and omissions. After this, I thought that the incident had passed. I was wrong. Suddenly, he approached me with an angry and aggressive look on his face. He indicated that one girl was crying (I saw her, but saw no tears), and the other was very upset, even though I had spoken to only one woman, and that "I can't have that." I told him that sometimes people (such as my nieces) turn on the tears to get sympathy when they know that they are wrong. He ignored me and said that staff had described me as "aggressive." I told him that asking questions in a normal tone of voice is not aggressive. He got madder. I asked him what they said I had done, but he did not answer. I invited him to talk to the table of three old ladies seated directly behind (~ 2 meters) the counter where I had addressed staff earlier, who would attest if I had made a scene. He said that he wasn't interested in doing that, but that he would check the security tape. He raised his hand and disappeared into the kitchen. Later, I approach the counter to see whether he was finished with his security footage review, and he came out aggressively and angrily. I asked him what the video showed, but he wouldn't answer. I again invited him to talk to the table of three old ladies, but he refused. When I asked him what the tape showed, he said, "I don't need anything from you." He told me to find a new coffee shop. I told him that I am a lawyer in Minnesota, and he said snidely, "Good for you." I told him that he does not get to call me, a man of integrity, a liar, and that he was being manipulated, and he said, "yeah, by you." Aghast, I advised him to talk to the old ladies, but he refused, so I approached them myself, and they said that they had noticed nothing regarding my conversation earlier. While I spoke to the old ladies, the owner was leering aggressively from behind the counter, his face growing redder, and I invited him to ask the old ladies, and I asked the old ladies to talk to him and tell him that they had heard nothing out of the ordinary. He was infuriated and again refused, and I felt that he intimidated them with his demeanor. He pointed to the door and told me aggressively to leave, which I did. Bravo! You win the gaslighting villain of the week award. On 9/27/2021, Darren M. posted a comment suggesting that I find a coffee shop willing to put up with me. What he doesn't know is that I have visited coffee shops all around the world and have yet to find one as gross as his, and that I have regular coffee shops in more than one country. First off... this review is NOT about the attitude of the people that work at RoadRunner. I have been going to RR for several years, and the people have always been in good spirits and pleasant. So they would get 5 stars for how they interact with their customers! However, after repeated times visiting RR over the last couple of months... I have decided I will no longer be patronizing their establishment. Here is a laundry list of my reasons why: Five of the past six times we have ordered coffee they have not made at least one drink correctly. (Not adding the double shots, not making a decaf coffee - wife is highly sensitive, not adding vanilla to the latte, and EVERY time I brought these to their attention, they stated that they didn't see the requests on the order slip). Twice I have had 10 stars earning me a free coffee, only to not have them not honored being told they forgot to apply the reward to my order - I was told the first time that it was a mistake and that it should be applied to the most expensive drink AUTOMATICALLY, the second time I was told that I should have been given the option to select my free drink during the CC processing - WHAT? I've had several free drinks applied by RR over the past few years and never had to select that I wanted the free drink to be applied. I've called ahead and ordered 10 mins before arriving only to get there, pay for my order, then watch two to three orders placed by others after me get their coffees before mine call in order was even started. Additionally, we have called ahead and ordered our drinks and asked for a Blueberry muffin being told they were out, only to see them on the counter when I arrive to pick up the drinks. I asked if I could buy one, and I was told they were available. Again, the staff are pleasant and friendly, it is the quality of service that has completely gone off the rails. I hope they get things turned around... but guess I won't know. I've given them over three months since I raised my first concerns to them and all that happened there was I got a free drink. A free drink does not make up for the continual issues and problems with service. read more

Roadrunner Coffee was a pleasant surprise for us on a day that we had no plans to try anything new! We happened upon this shopping center, and from a distance, I saw a sign for a coffee shop. It's hard for me to pass up an opportunity to try some new coffee. This place is far from home for us, so we decided we had to go in while we were in the area. Upon walking in, you see a pretty large space with plenty of seating. It was very clean and colorful, and overall a welcoming space. The menu is presented right above the ordering counter, so it was easy to read. We were greeted right away by a friendly young man who took our order and answered our questions. He made our drinks right there in front of us while we waited. I had one of their "Signature Drinks", the "Jittery Javelina", which is espresso with caramel and vanilla flavoring in it. It was made really well. Not too sweet, but not so little flavored that you can't taste the "specialty" part of the drink. The coffee had a good depth of flavor and didn't taste watery at all. Overall, a really good drink that I would definitely get again. My husband had a strawberry Italian soda. Usually when he orders one of these, they're very lightly flavored and basically just a cup of ice. Roadrunner didn't skimp on the flavor or rip us off by giving us a cup full of ice. It was a nice surprise. And they'll put whipped cream on it if you want! If you don't want coffee, this is a good option. They also serve food, which we didn't try. But, they advertise that they use Boars Head meats for their sandwiches, so I can't imagine they'd be anything but decent at the very least! Their prices seemed ok, not too high but not a bargain, either. Overall, we will definitely return to Roadrunner Coffee, and it will be my first choice when I'm in the area! This place is the best kept secret in North Tucson/ Marana. I discovered this place 5 years ago and it is still my favorite tasting coffee. I order the iced vanilla toddy daily, but am a big fan of their Jittery Javelina. The owner himself serves coffee in the morning and the staff makes a point to know your name. They offer a lot of breakfast and lunch items that are all very yummy. I recommend this establishment to everyone, even kid friendly. read more
