I've been a Road Runner Sports VIP member for nearly eight years and have always had excellent experiences at the Newbury Park location. I was excited when the Oxnard store opened since it's much closer to home, but unfortunately, I've now had three disappointing visits. On July 20 around 3:55 p.m., I waited about 7-9 minutes to be helped. While I was waiting, a family came in after me. Once the employee "ELLEY" finished at the register, she helped the family first without checking who had been waiting longer. When I was finally assisted, no one came back to see how the shoes fit or if I needed anything else. I came in ready to spend nearly $400, but the lack of customer service made me decide not to make a purchase. I'll continue driving to the Newbury Park location, where I've always received excellent service. I hope the Oxnard team receives additional customer service training, especially when it comes to acknowledging waiting customers and following up after bringing out shoes. read more

My wife and I went in to check out some running shoes and the fit expert I had was kind and welcoming but the other guy that my wife had was super condescending and rude. He asked "are you actually interested in buying shoes or are you just doing this for fun". What in the actual sales pitch is that? That was almost enough for us to walk right out of the store. (FYI we were very interested in buying multiple pairs but not after that comment we only bought one from my sales person). He started talking about the shoe inserts and my wife told him she already had custom ones from her podiatrist. That's when he acted EXTRA annoyed. My fit expert swore I needed to buy a size 9.5 even though I've always had a 10. Then my wife's insisted she also needed a 9.5 and she's always had an 8.5 or 9. They were both disagreeing on how much toe space we needed. One telling my wife she needed more and mine telling me I needed less. So against my better judgment I listened to my fit expert and got the 9.5 After I got home and started wearing the around and with a tiny bit of feet swelling and warmth my toes were jamming at the end of the shoe. I returned my pair and bought them at REI. This was the worst shopping experience I have ever had. Wow! This is a full service quality shoe store. Hubby was measured, videotaped, and his foot was assessed via machines. He needs the wide width. We knew that. I sold shoes for 12 years back in the day. I thought the concept of a full service shoe stores were long gone. I am so pleased that I was wrong. Bryan, is a wealth of knowledge!! Bryan spent time with us. Other people walked in and his focus remained on us. (yes...there were other employees.) His patience, calming presence, and sincerity were greatly appreciated. The machine recommended Brooks & Asics. Hubby also tried the Hoka shoes. Bryan explained that the support is located in different places on different brands. We ended up with the inserts & the Hokas. We also bought the VIP family membership for $20. The membership gets us free shipping, discounts, and extended returns. The company offers a 30 day guarantee if you have the membership. If you don't love the shoes, return them. Bryan said that many health insurance companies will reimburse the cost of inserts & shoes. My husband walks 19,000 steps a day for his job. He needs great shoes. Yes. The shoes here sell for over $100. His health & comfort are worth it. The inserts, which were made in the store, cost $108 after the discount. They will last 2 years. I am impressed with this company. My cousin only buys his shoes from Road Runner Sports. We are now huge fans as well. I have always gone to the one in Newbury Park but when I saw they had opened a closer location I stopped by to buy shoes for a loved one. I had great service by the salesperson. However the second time I went back for a return I did not receive stellar service like the first time around. It was not handled professionally and I had to make a formal complaint. The general manager then issued an apology for the behavior of the salesperson and promised they would speak with them. Overall, I did not receive the best experience each time due to that mishap which is why I cannot rate it 5 stars. They do have lots of options though and you can always check them out online as well! read more

Jesse was great! I picked out running shoes and shoes for the gym. I went through the scanning process and ended up going with his rec anyways. It's a great selection of running shoes and running needs. I will say there was another worker who tried to sneak in an upgrade on my VIP membership which I wasn't fond of. He phrased it as a "complimentary for the hassle" (I ended up exchanging the gym shoes). But didn't explain it would cost more annually. If I hadn't asked about any additional costs I wouldn't have known. Be weary of the membership and ask a lot of questions before you sign up! Went in for a foot analysis as a first time customer. The lady working seemed busy doing other things so I initiated asking about how the whole process works. She then asked if I was going to actually shop there or just get my results and shop else where... Either way, the analysis was done but the results were never received on my end. Walked in today pretty much ready to drop $175 in a pair of Hoka slip resistant shoes for work. A friend loves them so I came in ready. Miranda said they would have to put me through an assessment (I was fine with that). I asked if they had any other slip resistant shoes and she said no and "other people don't like the Hokas". I kind of got the impression she didn't want to help me so I walked out. I will get them elsewhere I guess. read more

Waited over 20 minutes to be helped because Josh the sales associate was flirting with a female shopper (the only shopper in the store at the time) then when another associate finally came out they told me I couldn't try on a shoe because I hadn't done the treadmill test.
