Knocked off stars due to VIP Family Rewards signup.. -Black Friday deal in store: spend a certain amount and you get $20 off with VIP Family Rewards membership. -I signed up for VIP membership in store at $19.99 -I went on the website later and saw the the first year is actually supposed to be free and you get 20% off your first purchase.. so I would probably have saved more doing it online because of how much I bought -I called customer service and they said they can't refund the $19.99 If you want to sign up for VIP Family Rewards, I highly suggest doing it online first or maybe mentioning it to the staff before purchasing it in store. Now for the in-store experience: -Service was great! -They measure everything about your feet using this special program -They are able to find shoes that work with your feet measurements and needs -They make custom insoles in house and save a record of it so you can reorder I will be back! Working from home during this pandemic has definitely pushed me to get my running shoes out to get the blood flow going. I've been using the same running shoes since 2017 that has lasted me 2 half marathons so I figured it's about time for a new pair of shoes. Upon arrival there is a sign outside the door since they were at capacity and you had to sign in and wait for an employee to let you in. I didn't want too long, probably about 5-10 minutes. I was greeted by an extremely friendly and energetic employee named Robby. I just said I wanted to be evaluated for new running shoes and he knew exactly what I wanted to do and was very knowledgable. First they have you go on a treadmill with socks on and they evaluate your feet and ankles, it's recorded on an iPad to later show you on tv. Then you step onto a scanner so they evaluate your shoe size, arches, how wide your feet are, etc. I always thought I was on the wider side but I guess I'm not! Then they give you the option for insoles which shape into your feet on another machine that heats it up. Robby made great recommendations and asked good questions about injuries and your preferences. After the evaluation, he came out with about 5 different brands and kinds of shoes that best matched my feet. I never felt rushed but it does take some time to find the right fit. They don't have the prices of the shoe while you're trying them on I guess which is a good things so you aren't too focused on the price. I was previously an Aesic and Nike user but I was recommended Brooks, New Balance (more right fit), Mizuno, and Hoka. I think after about an hour is trying all of them on and walking around in the store I finally chose the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 which is what many people in the store recommended. A tip another customer gave me was to look on their online site to check for shoes on clearance or the year before's version. I walked away with new shoes, insoles, and a VIP membership which pays for itself. I have 90 days to test it all out including insoles and shoes if I'd like to return or trade it in. Let's see how this all goes and would def recommend coming back here for those that want to take care of their running health! read more

Honestly was oblivious to what this store is. I thought I would be in and out in less than 20 minutes. When I walked onto the sales floor to see the specialized shoe section, I was a little overwhelmed. I ran into Izzy who walked me through everything from custom shoe inserts to a variety of different shoes. She was super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Izzy was able to help myself and my fiancee find the perfect match of shoes for our specific foot needs. She was even super sweet to our daughter. This store has great customer service. Everytime someone walks in the door the associates say welcome in without fail. We spent two hours with Izzy and she was amazing! Parking lot is kinda small. Many retail store on the lot. So if you've been following my reviews you know I had a major health issue last year and it's been a bit of a struggle to come back from it and physically get to where I was before. Well, Road Runner Sports has definitely helped me on my path. I've worn Addiction or Ariel Brooks for about 15 years, but found the Addiction 15 to have a manufacturing defect which caused bruising and pain in the right shoe. I knew I wanted to start walking a lot again, so I came in to have my tootsies scanned so I could get an idea of what other types of shoes would work for me. The service was fantastic and incredibly helpful. They taped me walking on the treadmill, then scanned me, and told me that I had incredibly high arches (neat, I didn't know) and that my real foot size was 8 wide. Since I'd been wearing 8.5 regular that was pretty interesting. They then heated up the orthotics, and I stood on them like I was skiing to have them get a good fit with my foot. From there I tried on about 4-5 different types of shoes with the orthotics inside - New Balance, Asics and Brooks and it came as no surprise to me that I liked the Brooks Adrenaline the best. But for the first time I went with a 8 wide, instead of my usual size. I also joined the membership (at no real cost to me since the discount covers the fee) to take advantage of the 90 day return policy and later brought in my husband to run the footie scanning gamut and additionally take advantage of the $30 credit from my purchase. With our second purchase of his shoes (also Brooks) and orthotics we were bumped up to the VIP membership at no cost. While my husband hasn't been walking as much as I have, of my 5-10 miles a day he does about 4-5 with me. And wearing these new shoes is like walking on a cloud. I had no idea that having orthotics and a wide shoes would make such a difference, but they really really do. And they've been especially helpful now that we walk everywhere after getting rid of our vehicle. So a big thank you to Road Runner Sports, who helped get me back out on the road again. Came here based on the yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Tasha helped me find my first pair of running shoes and she was so helpful and professional. She took the time to explain everything and answer my questions. I appreciated her sense of humor! She provided excellent customer service. As a non-traditional runner, she made me feel comfortable and the process fun. I was dreading going in to look for running shoes but thanks to Tasha, we got all the measurements and try-ons done in a straightforward and non-judgmental way. I appreciated her care, candor, and understanding of where I am and when I go back for my next pair I'll be asking for her and seeking her advice. I would have never signed up for the membership if she hadn't sold it. Note for non-traditional runners: they don't have gear options for larger folks, but if they want to leave billions on the table, well that's their loss. 5 stars for Tasha! 3 stars for selection. read more

Bridgette from the Berkeley location is really the best! I've stopped by the store a few times to get fitted for some shoes that would be good for walking/running on a daily basis. the first time i went in, i went in for a fitting but ended up not liking the pair of shoes i picked out. the 2nd time i went in i met bridgette, who is the manager i believe. she was SO friendly, patient and helpful with getting me re-fitted with better shoes and insoles that best fit my needs. she is so thorough and explains the whole process. i loveee the shoes she recommended and use them every day (asics gel nimbus 26). i recommend calling the store to see if she's working that day so she can take care of you!! read more

I came in to this store as a personal recommendation from a friend of mine, but I was very disappointed with the service here. I watched as multiple people around me who haven't been helped were not acknowledged for at least 10 mins of waiting, I understand it was a little bit busy at the time I was there. Josh came to help me and asked if I would like to try the foot scan experience and I said yes. I was asked to take off my shoes and put on these socks that he described as "hella tight", went through the experience of trying on the shoes he recommended but the size of the shoes were all too tight/small on me but he went to go help other people instead of noticing this so after trying on the recommended shoes, I put my shoes back on and left the store without saying a word. The employees working the sales floor here didn't seem or sound like they wanted to be here. It's a shame because I wanted to walk out with a new pair of shoes but I didn't want to support a business that treated me like that. read more

This was my first time visiting Road Runner Sports Store in Berkeley and I was so pleased I had. I was in the market for some shoes for my new nursing job and Mahari was so helpful. He is really informed on each shoe and understood what brand would be great for a long shift on my feet. I later returned a few days later to exchange the size I purchased as a VIP member where I was helped by Jennifer. She was also knowledgeable and provided great customer service. She was very attentive on the sizing issue by correcting it with a new shoe suggestion. I have a love/hate relationship with this store because I love the customized personal service but I usually end up spending an arm and a leg here. In the end, I'm grateful for my new paraphernalia and tell myself I only come here rarely. I was looking for new running shoes to support my collapsing arches and my desire to get back into running. Robby was an excellent "shoedog" (CSR) and thoroughly helped me find the right shoes to go home with. After completing the assessment and by the end of my stay, he must have brought out the whole back room inventory for me to try on due to my indecisive nature. He gave me enough time to try on the shoes, walk around the store, ask questions, and let me know all of the details that come with buying shoes. I finally rung up items. The best customer experience. It was a no-hassle, no pressure evaluation of my daughter's feet. My daughter is in track season at school and she recently suffered from injury. I wanted to make sure she was wearing the right equipment. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the team, esp. Mahkari. He was amazing! He was informative, attentive and professional. He evaluated my daughter's foot during an assessment machine, then pulled the appropriate customized shoes, inserts and socks. It was really valued service. I even had a chance to evaluate my feet and he sent a customized program for me. The shoes were all so comfortable with brands that I would not have realized were so comfortable. But the best thing was the customer service, so informative, everyone so friendly and Mahkari just so helpful and making our experience so great! We will definitely come back. I needed to exchange a pair of shoes that were too small. I waited a long time to do this, many days after the original purchase, because this store is out of the way for me. Tasha was incredible in making this exchange so easy for me. The store didn't have my size available and she arranged very quickly to have it mailed to me a few days later, free shipping. Also, I chose a different color combination, which was an additional $18.00, but because Paulo had entered me in the VIP program at the time of my original purchase, I had a credit which applied to this purchase (and also the ability to exchange shoes during the first 90 days after purchase). Came to this place after needing some new shoes specifically for running. When you walk in, they make sure you are seen and that someone will be with you in a few minutes. I've been in stores where I was waiting for assistance and never received it. Not this place. What I really like is that they can have you run on a treadmill while recording you run to see your "style" of running. Based off that information they can then pair you with shoes that fit your running style. I love the person who worked with me, but unfortunately I do not remember his name. I liked that he was really easy to talk to, I could be honest with him about the color of shoes I prefer, and I was able to just talk to him about life while trying on shoes. I recommend this place for anyone who is new to running or even fitness. They have a great variety of shoes in terms of colors and brands along with having great staff. read more

I went here to get my feet fitted for a pair of running shoes. The staff who helped me, Mahari, was so kind and attentive. The wait was short, and the fitting process was insightful and taught me a lot about things like how I walk, what kind of shoes I need to support my feet, etc. if you get a membership here, you get great benefits and discounts on their items, and so I would say it's so worth it. I signed up for my first half marathon and decided I wanted to start my training off on the right foot by getting fitted for a good pair of shoes. I searched for local running stores and came across Road Runner. After reading reviews, I made an appointment for a weekday at 11:30. My boyfriend and I arrived about 20 minutes early, and were happy to look around the store since we were early. They have a lot of running equipment/apparel and it all seems organized. As we walked around, the store wasn't busy, but we weren't acknowledged by any of the employees. Since it wasn't busy, at 11:25, I let them know that I was there for an 11:30 appt. The employee I spoke to, turned to a female employee standing next to him and said, "she is here for an 11:30". The female employee, right in front of me said, "She's already checking in for a 1:30 appointment?" We clarified that I was there for an 11:30 appointment and the female employee was asked to assist me. The employee walked us over to a bench area and asked us to sit down as she grabbed a tablet. When she came over, she kept glancing over at a hallway and said to a coworker, "He has been in there for 30 minutes." She seemed annoyed. At this point, we were still excited about the fitting, but then she said to us, "I guess I'm helping you because (another employee's name) is pooping." That seemed like a strange way to speak to a customer and, after this, the experience continued to go downhill. She then had me jog on a treadmill and in a very rushed manner went over my results. She never asked if I had any questions and, honestly, just seemed irritated that she had to help me. After fitting me for insoles, she walked me over to the shoe area where she had laid out 3 pairs of shoes. She didn't explain why she chose those 3 and told me to put them on and try them out on the treadmill. Then she walked away. She very briefly came back twice to help me remove the insoles (which was nice) and then immediately left. After trying on the 3rd pair, we didn't see her again. I was hoping to try on a couple other shoes, since I didn't love any of them, but she made herself very unavailable. After awhile, the man I initially checked in with asked if we needed help. We asked what we should do with the insoles (since we weren't going to be buying anything after this less than desirable experience) and he said we could just leave them on the bench. As we walked out, we saw the employee who did my fitting at the cash register. Honestly, I don't even remember if she was helping someone or just hanging out. Tasha was absolutely the best I went to the store about two or three days ago and I needed to find a pair of sneakers because I've had five surgeries on my foot and my physical therapist told me I need to get me another good pair of shoes well, Tasha was extremely knowledgeable, extremely kind and gracious with her service and help Even how she managed the other customers coming into the store by greeting them constantly even while she was helping me she was just extremely polite and nice. She also explained to me the 90 day return policy which I'm a VIP member and I didn't even realize because I bought my first pair of shoes from that exact store about a year ago and they're kind of worn down now so when I got my first pair of clouds the other day I wore them more than a physical therapy. My therapist told me nope you need a different shoe so I went back to see Tasha the next day. I was so glad she was there. She really really helped me find another pair of clouds, which with the chunky heel that I was so against but Tasha was right that chunky heel gave me all the extra support I needed for my arch that I just had rebuilt and I'm even going back for another pair of clouds from from Tasha because she was amazing. The store itself is great for trying a variety of shoes and getting custom insoles, but I had a negative experience with the salesperson, Samuel. They gave false information about VIP membership perks and the delivery date of my order was way off: 1) Samuel lied about VIP membership and said VIPs could return used gear within 90 days for a refund. I wasn't sure I heard correctly so I asked him again to double check if we can RETURN used gear within 90 days if the fit was incorrect, and he confirmed that yes, a return is possible. After reviewing the receipt and website when I got home, I learned you can EXCHANGE used gear within 90 days, not return for a refund. This should've been made clear. 2) Samuel confirmed that the shoes I ordered from them in store on 8/23/22 would be shipped to my home either later that same day or the next day, 8/24/22. He said the shoes were coming from their Campbell store so delivery would be fast. I was really looking forward to this new pair since my current shoes are giving me issues. I called Road Runner's customer line (800.551.5558 ) regarding my order status, and they said my order is not scheduled to ship until next Monday, 8/29/22. Waiting 6+ days instead of 2 makes a huge difference when you're training and cannot take this many days off running. Had I known it would take over a week to get the shoes, I would have chosen another pair in store. I am so disappointed with this shady sales experience, I'm not sure I would recommend shopping at Road Runner to anyone I know. The false information about VIP membership is one thing, but the false delivery promise for my order is quite another since it negatively affects my training. read more

I'm writing a Road Runner review mostly because of Mahari, who is one of the staff. Mahari is incredibly attentive, friendly, kind, and good-natured with a great heart. Mahari helped me try on three sizes of the same shoe and helped my wife with two pairs of shoes, even though he knew Road Runner didn't have the colors we wanted, we wouldn't buy the shoes at store, and he wouldn't get a commission. After getting Mahari's great help, we ordered our shoes on the Road Runner website. As for the Road Runner store itself, this is the second time I've been there. They have many brands of shoes for all kinds of running needs. And they have some shoes for walking. Their prices seem to be competitive. The main thing I like is Road Runner's VIP rewards program. If you join VIP, you and your family get 10% off everything (including future purchases), you get 5% rewards "cash" on what you buy that can be used for future purchases (although there's some sort of expiration date), and you can return or exchange your shoes and other purchases within 90 days -- even if you run in them! (It's 60 days even if you don't join their VIP program. Personally, I don't see any downside to joining their VIP program. You don't have to opt into getting emails or snail mail promotions from them. Of course, Road Runner's VIP program helps them out because it's an incentive for you to come back. The main thing I don't like is that they have high-tech machines that scan your feet to determine your foot size(s) and your arch height. Then the machine spits out recommendations of shoes for you. To me, the scan was absolutely useless. In particular, I didn't like the shoes it recommended. read more
