He stayed an hour after closing and managed to sell me the most perfect car ever. The entire selection looks like it is well maintained and well taken care of by Cal West. Used car sales is not an easy business. I have been in the car business for over 40 years so I…read moreknow just a little bit. First I will start with Matt. He was a total pro. Reviewed the total price for the sale, the doc and selling fees added to the deal were fair and reasonable. The paper work was a breeze, although I was a cash buyer, so I cannot speak to the finance options. He did make me aware of the warranty options a few times but understood my desire not to purchase. In the end he helped with my two car logistics so I could get my new car were it needed to be. The thing that stood out the most about Cal West was their cars. My car was exceptional, low mileage, one owner, dealer serviced its entire life. As I looked at their inventory I saw the care they took in selecting their inventory. I did not see any cars on the lot that would be an automatic not buy. Quite the opposite everything I saw had strong consumer ratings no matter how old. Your mileage may vary but as someone in the business I would rate this independent used car business as way better than average. The fact that they have been in business for 45 years certainly says something about their ethics and business practices.

Within the week I had to take the car in to the shop for rattling when the AC was on. Turns out something was installed backwards. Within the second week the Apple Car Play started failing. I took it to the dealership, one of the gentleman came out and did a quick troubleshooting (deleted devices and added back). Fast forward to March 2026, Car play has FAILED. I take the vehicle for an oil change and find that the engine is failing, including an engine oil leak, coolant system failing. While trying to establish the validity of the warranty and find a good shop for the repairs the car has shut off in traffic twice, continues to run hot and the breaks are going out already. I have spent $600 on a rental car. I have reached out to San Leandro several times and spoke with Boris. The last of which he offered a discount on the rental which still totaled $600 for how long I will need the rental. I asked explicitly to speak with a Regional Manager about surrendering the vehicle and submitted an online complaint more than three weeks ago and no one is responding. I have also filed a complaint with BBB. And by the list of other complaints I'm not the first person sold a vehicle that they claim has been through a rigorous "certification" and inspection and the ENGINE is failing months later.

The best car buying experience I have ever had by far! Entire process from initial contact to…read morereceiving my car was frictionless and effortless. Excellent communication, service, and timely replies. I received a significant discount on the OTD price, even when including the BuySide Auto fee. On top of that, I NEVER had to step into a dealership, talk to a salesperson directly, spend hours playing the "let me ask my manager" game, or have to talk to a Finance manager and repeatedly say NO to unnecessary options. All communication was easily done through email and text, although phone and in-person contact was also available. Process starts with completing a convenient online request. From there, Kim contacted me to fully understand my wishlist, range of optional requirements, and any non-negotiables. After reaching out to their dealer network, within a day she provided a list of potential matches with estimated OTD prices, which included some in SoCal available for transfer to the Bay Area and cars still in production with estimated availability dates. I had a lot of questions and some requests and Kim was very responsive and instrumental in relaying them to the dealer and advocating for me. Even my request to remove all dealer installed options was negotiated by Kim and granted by the dealer with no hassle on my end. I paid the BuySide Auto fee to reserve the car for purchase and when the car was available I opted to pickup at their office in SF. Home delivery to SF is also currently no charge, while delivery outside of the city is available with a modest fee. Upon first contact, I asked if weekend pickup or delivery was available, since their normal hours are on weekdays. Kim made note of it and remembered my preference even after the sale was completed. Chris was able to make himself available for Saturday pickup! We took a walk around the car took a look inside. We spent no more than 10 minutes reviewing and signing paperwork, received my keys, and I was off with my brand new car! Both Kim and Chris were great to work with and I have no hesitation in working with them again for future car purchases.
