I have to leave a warning about Jody. He knows his stuff but make sure to pay only half upfront. He was completing a shock replacement job on my car in the heat and could only complete half on the first day. Never heard from him again. I hate to do this but my last encounter with Jody was not what I experienced when I wrote my first review. I was having problems with my car losing power and stalling for just a split second. I originally met Jody through my uncle who had used him to do some brake work. I'm not sure if his rates were different because a MAN worked out my prior deal or what. I called him and explained the problem and he said, "Well it could be a lot of things." Since my engine light wasn't on it would be harder to diagnose. Ok, I get that. I thought I trusted him so I took his word for it and made an appointment. He wanted $70 just to come LOOK at my car. So he gets to my house and starts looking at the engine. Then he asks me to get on my laptop and look up any parts recalled for my make and model of vehicle. I did that and it led us to the problem; the ignition switch. Thus far, he hadn't really done anything to the car. He was making phone calls and smoking and just looking around, nothing taxing or helpful really. He says he's going to take apart the plastic part around the ignition to figure out exactly what part we needed. Meanwhile, just to double check, I called my dad. My dad then informs me that if I call a Honda dealership they might to do the work for free (including labor and part, the part was $200 itself.) I call the dealership and indeed, they will do it for free. Surely a MECHANIC knew this. He thought because I was a WOMAN that I was a dumbass and could rip me off. I go out and told him that I was taking it to the dealership because they would do it for free. He sort of sulked and tried to make me feel guilty about it. DUDE. You almost ripped me off for hundreds of dollars. YOU should feel guilty. Then he has the nerve to say, "Well because I took the part off around the ignition can you give me 20 more dollars??" Wow. He had only even been there for about 45 minutes and did almost nothing. Even if he was doing work, I wouldn't have paid him $70/hr. Needless to say I don't trust him anymore and won't be calling for his services again. If I had let him do the job it would have cost at least $400 on top of the $70. BEWARE. read more

I really lucked out with Jody. He was able to come and see me within three hours of me calling him (it wasn't an emergency) and helped me replace my radiator. I didn't have any problems with him like other people have. I rather enjoyed him as a mechanic. He was very nice, knowledgeable and a lot better than last mobile mechanic that I called. What a life saver. I was able to diagnose the offending car part but couldn't remove it from the car. Searching the interwebs was offering suggestions like "solder it off" and "nut smasher" and, um, yeah... I called Jody around 8:30, he answered his phone on the first ring. Professional and polite on the phone. Was able to schedule me the next day in the afternoon. Then called me in the morning to see if it was okay if he came by a couple hours earlier. Um, yes, yes it is okay if you fix my car early. Would absolutely recommend Jody to anyone, he's forgotten more about cars than most of us will ever know. read more

Firstly, I am grateful Jody came to my aid with gas after I ran out on MoPac this morning (lesson learned, horrible traffic and 1/4 tank don't mix well with rain and accidents). But, when you pay for a service it isn't a friendly pat-on-the-back thank you, it's a business transaction. When a business can professionally combine the two that is golden. However, my experience this morning was less than satisfactory. I contacted Jody at 8:21 from MoPac and the south entrance ramp (just past the 290 on-ramp). Jody told me he was at William Cannon and Manchaca (7 minutes away according to GPS). He told me the charge would be $57.50. Jody called me at 8:52am and said he was at Brodie and William Cannon, had just purchased my gas and was en route. Jody arrived with a 5 gallon gas can and we had a nice friendly chat. After topping off the gas he said it would be $60 for the call, another $12 for the gas and if I wanted to tip him he would appreciate it. I responded saying when we talked at 8:21 we agreed on a price he quoted me, which was $57.50, and I explained to him I had planned on paying him an even $60.00. We agreed and he followed me to a bank nearby, When I came to pay him he said the total would be $70 and asked if I wanted a receipt. I politely declined. He retorted saying, you have my card if you want to recommend me to anyone. Jody, I don't think I will be doing that anytime soon, but thanks for the roller-coaster ride of pricing for your services. read more

This man is incompetent for anything more than an oil change or a jump start. Over 2&1/2 months, $600 in labor, and over $800 in parts, he still tells me he needs more parts. (This after telling me he watched a you tube video to install a timing belt. ) THEN, he tells me I owe him another $45 part and for 5 gallons of oil! ??The original quote didn't include oil??? Two texts with "I promise tomorrow", still not fixed. Unprofessional and unacceptable. read more

He's a good man with good service. My car was stuck in a hospital parking lot after the battery died from me leaving the lights on (a friend had just been rushed there by ambulance, I was understandably distracted) and when I called him a few days later he worked me into his schedule right away. Within 2 hours I met him there and he was quick, friendly, and cheap - only $40 for a basic jump start. He stayed while the car ran and then had me turn it off & back on again to make sure I was good to go. The picture needs to be updated, now he has a Suburban, not a van. read more

I've had Jody come out twice, the first time I needed a valve replacement that lambs was going to charge me almost $800 for Jody did it for closer to $200! I then had him come out to take care of my brakes. He does a good job and cleans up after himself. The only complaint I have is that he isn't very punctual, he was late both times but well worth the wait. I will be using his services again. read more

Now I take full responsibility for not asking for a price up front, but I did tell Jodi that I heard of him on Yelp, so here goes. First thing Monday morning heading out to work, my car wouldn't start. New place and no other resources, instead of having it towed to my mechanic, I called Road Runner to come help. I needed a battery for my 2008 Honda Accord. He stayed in touch with me, bought the battery and showed up when he said he would. I've had car work done, bought many car batteries before, so I figured I knew what this would cost me. I paid $329.00 to have him replace my battery. $169.00 for a battery that shouldn't have cost him no more than $75.00 and $159.00 to show up and install in less than 20 minutes. I was floored. I called my mechanic who would have done an electrical system diagnostic etc. new battery installed $129.00. I finally got royally screwed by a mechanic. Yes he came to me, but $200.00 more than a garage mechanic, that is unethical. So, think long and hard before you call a 'Mobile Mechanic'. How much is it worth to you. I have no ill will towards this guy other than warning others to ask up front for a price before you have him come out. There is no way he would have quoted me over $300.00 for this. I would have hung up on him. read more

Suoer Service! I was referred to Jody with Road Runner by O'Reily's Auto Parts. It was Labor Day and Jody was there within two hours of my call to replace my alternator and battery on my Suburu Forester. Jody had to work in the hot sun for about an hour and 30 minutes in 100 degre weather, had reasonable rates and didn't charge extra for it being a holiday! My trusted mechanic of 15 years is in Buda, (Moonlight Automotive) and I'm a loyal customer, but when I can't get my car to Buda, which can be often with an older car, i am thrilled to have Road Runner Mobile Mechanic to call on. Had a problem with my vechicle not turning on. My dashboard never indicated that something was wrong. Got worried there for a while because I didn't have a mechanic. Got online and searched for a mobile mechanic and found roadrunner. Gave the place a call it was late at night person who answered was polite took my information and told me when I was ready for him the next day to see my vechicle to give him a call. He actually gave me a courtesy call and confirmed that he was on his way. Pouring rain he went above and beyond to fix it. Very courteous mechanic. Now I could say I have someone to call for help when I have car troubles. Really appreciate an honest mechanic in this town. read more

I was stranded with a bad alternator and Jodi got there to help me out in 30 minutes. A couple hours later I had a new alternator for less than I would have paid in a shop and I didn't have to wait or pay for towing. I don't see how it gets any better than that. read more

My experience was Jody was very negative. He overcharged me and refused to take responsibility for an incomplete job, and I had to pay another mechanic to fix his mistakes. When I called Jody a couple nights ago about replacing my car's starter, I asked him if I could save money by buying the starter myself. He told me that not only would I save some money, but it would also make his job faster, because he wouldn't then need to go to the auto parts store. I bought the starter that night, and the next morning he came and inspected the car. After some negotiation on the price, which included him going back on what he'd told me on the phone, we agreed on $200. Once he finished the installation, I went outside and started the car. When I turned it over, there was a loud screeching noise that was never there before. Incredibly, he blamed the screech on me, because I'd bought the part at what he'd considered to be a bad parts store. I stood there in shock, because it was so obvious that he hadn't completed the install! I then learned that Jody only takes responsibility for installing starters from X parts store, and not from Y. He told me that I would need to buy a new starter, and that he would then reinstall it - and I would pay for labor twice! After speaking at length with the people at the auto parts store, I had 3 other mechanics inspect the car. They all agreed that Jody hadn't shimmed the starter, which is part of completing a basic install. When I told him that I'd like him to shim it for free, he continued to tell me that all of this was my fault because I'd bought the wrong starter. If I wanted, he would shim it for $90 more. In the next phone call, he agreed to replace it for $50 (plus the price of the "good" starter from his good auto parts shop). At that point, I didn't feel like I could trust him any more. So I had another mechanic shim it for $40. Of course, the problem was solved. The conversation where I spoke to him about receiving a $40 reimbursement from the $200 he'd charged me was too unpleasant to write about here. I recommend finding another mechanic. read more

The first job that Jody did for me went well because it was a simple switch out of a dead battery when my wife was stranded at the mall. THe second time we called him it ended up costing us $450 dollars after he failed to fix our car. He also never bothered to clean the oil off of his clothes when he sat in the car and stained our upholstery. Never again!!!!!! read more

Avoid this man. Called him for a non-starting car. He said "90% sure" the problem was the crank shaft position sensor. He needed a check for $237 up front to get the part. End of the day, he said the problem "has to be" the PCM, which required another $400 check. He would not take a VISA card, which seems odd considering the VISA sticker on his van. Next day, he didn't yet have the PCM. Next day after that, he said that didn't fix it and he needed to do more troubleshooting. Next day, he said he had to deal personal issues. Next day, he had to fix his own truck. Next day, I fired him and had the car towed elsewhere. Out an entire paycheck and the car still doesn't start. BTW his card lists no email nor web site nor physical address. Just a cell phone. read more

Jody did a great job for me. Came out even though it was Sunday and even though he had another job on his plate today. He was very thorough and efficient, and stuck around to make sure the repair would hold and that the car would restart. He was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable. Beware!! Jody had done a couple of small jobs for us so we decided to trust him when he said he could do a major AC job on our Jeep for $600. The day he came to start he said the part would be extra and he needed all the money up front for various reasons. The job was to take 2 days. Our Jeep sat disassembled in our driveway for "2 weeks"!! Jody made all kinds of excuses including needing to do several smaller jobs during that time,etc etc. After 2 weeks he finally put the dash back in but still did not charge it with freon. He said this would be an additional charge and then when we asked for a receipt he said no, that was it, he wasn't going to do any more work on our Jeep. He said his lawyer said we were asking for too many receipts! (2 -one for the repair and one for the freon) We took it to Firestone the next morning to have it charged with freon for $120. Whey they looked at the Jeep they discovered that Jody had made major errors and just left the AC lines completely unhooked. They explained that this causes moisture to get in the lines and said it would cost "another $600" to fix the damage this caused and recharge the system. We just met with a lawyer about suing Road Runner Mobile Mechanic in small claims court. We were told there was no question we would win the case but that it would be nearly impossible to make Road Runner pay. Don't make our mistake! read more

I had used road runner thru 2010-2012 when I had my ford focus. He kept my car running another 2 years and never had a problem with his service or the vehicle. Because he is a traveling mechanic I always expected a week before he could finish the job but he had it done with in days. I have recomended him to my roomies and they also had a great experience. My roommate still has her car and it's still running. I do not trust chain mechanic shops, I have been screwed over to many times. Plus Road Runner is always cheaper! read more

Well was stranded with a bad alternator at believe it or not at a parts store, they recommended this guy and he was great, it took 4 hours to replace the alternator because it was in a almost unreachable place of course, and he did it in the parking lot of the parts store but he never griped and the car runs great. read more

Jody is the best. He has come to my rescue many times. My car was broken down on the side of the highway I gave him a call and he was there within 20 minutes. That's the first time i met him. The next time he worked on my car right in my drive way plus he gave me a ride to work. He kept in touch with me letting me know what was wrong with the vehicle and how much it would cost each step of the way. He fixed my car and it ran perfectly I would not trust any other mechanic. I was recommended by a friend to give them a call. Well we are no longer friends. This was a $400 dollar lesson I learned on how calling the wrong person can reslly f*@k up your car. Jody messed my car up too just like the previous reviewer. Its too bad that there is not a way to take stars away, because I would give a negative 5 star rating. I had a coolant leak where I needed a part to order. I made the mistake of trusting him and paid him before the job was done. Once the part came in for him to install he did come back to install it, but he installed it wrong!!! So, I gave him another chance to install it right and that when he told me that he got pulled over and he cannot come back out. He asked, "drop off your car at the orielly's". I can keep ranting, but the whole point of a mobile mechanic is MOBILITY!!! I was real lucky to find a REAL mechanic. Do yourself a favor, and call another mechanic or push your car off a cliff because both of those options are cheaper and safer. One star is too good of a rating, should be minus 5 stars, I will be sure to recommend to some people I hate. read more

I received Jodie's business card from another business in town and am quite disappointed. I called him this morning and it was difficult for him to hear me (and me him), probably because the television or something was blaring, I couldn't tell what it was, but I suppose it was too important to turn off. He said he was leaving right away and would be at my apartment within the hour. I gave him almost insultingly specific directions to my home, including where to park, landmarks, numbers, buildings, etc. but be still managed to be unsuccessful. All I needed was my spare tire to be put on. An hour and a half later he shows up, looks at my tire, has trouble removing the spare, and says he need to take it to get aired up. In the amount of time it takes me to cook a full meal from scratch, he returns with the spare and charges me $60 for that one singular service and the time/gas it took to drive there (to be fair, he does live a whopping 3.5 miles away). I thought it was kind of high considering I probably could've gotten a maintenance person to do it for free, but didn't want to impose. He asked me to call around and ask for prices from others and to call him back with the results. So I did and he screamed at me, said very unprofessional things, and hung up on me without letting me get a full sentence in. When I called him back hoping he had calmed down, it was much much worse with the same end result. I seriously think he may be mentally unstable. Additionally, his business card says that he accepts credit cards but he actually doesn't because he "just got out of the hospital," whatever that connection might be. I think the whole morning could've been forgiven if he hadn't yelled at me, called me names, etc. when I later did exactly what he told me to do. So to sum up, I wanted to give this guy my business, was extremely sorry I did, won't in the future, and discourage others from doing so as well. read more

I was in Austin visiting my daughter, and got ready to come home on a Sunday afternoon late. My old truck wouldn't start! Found Jody through google. He came straight to me even on a Sunday. It only took him a few minutes to (correctly) diagnose that my fuel pump had failed. My truck was in a condo so working at night would not have been good, but he took me to O'Reilly's to buy a new pump and filter. He returned the next morning at the agreed time and got the job done. It runs like a top again. Jody has some health problems which are financially difficult for him to bear, so he is not flush with cash but he is upbeat and has a sense of humor. He said he has a square credit card processor but it isn't working, and asked me to pay cash which I was happy to do. He is experienced, his mobile shop is well organized, and he knows auto mechanics very well (I used to work on cars in my teens and can tell the difference between novices and seasoned.) I have since recommended him to my daughter and will not hesitate to recommend him to friends. I have (subsequently) read the reviews and am surprised to see the negative ones. Jody has a hard life, and lives on a shoestring, so maybe it isn't like going to the car dealership. But my experience was good. read more
