All around amazing place to go right after a long day of hiking. My boyfriend and I came here because they offered massages hot tub pool and steam room before our massage and it was everything I needed. The massage was just by far the best. We went for a couples massage and spa day. Sadly not worth the money. Stuffy warm massage room, no where to put your robe or belongings. My Masseuse did a strange hair massage / not a scalp massage but hair. Not sure what that was about, I almost laughed. I asked for a gentle massage and not deep tissue. I'm so sore today I can barely move. For the hand massage the guy jerked on my fingers and toes hard. I have arthritis and he put me through the roof. This was anything but relaxing. When I was changing afterwards the cleaner kept coming in the change room and making me move my belongings. I felt like I was inconveniencing her. She did it several times. That area is small to begin with. Not what I had expected. Very disappointed Palliser. read more

Treated myself to a wonderful 60 minute lavender massage. I love lavender so this was an easy choice for me from their menu. My RMT was Yuni and she was wonderful! I really liked that this massage included a hot towel and scalp massage to end it off, really warmed up my muscles and encouraged an even deeper relaxation. I was gifted exfoliation gloves to bring home which was a nice touch. The spa itself is located in the basement of the Fairmont Palliser. It's certainly a dated facility but I kind of feel like that about most Fairmont properties. The waiting rooms were small but they did provide optional snacks, tea, water, etc. The pool and hot tub area were a decent size, but I noticed kids were in and out so I'm assuming the general hotel guest uses this pool too. Nothing wrong with it but most spa facilities are quiet and with kids jumping in and out, it gives off a different vibe. We used the steam room for a few minutes which was super hot. read more

My husband surprised me with a 90 minute Peaceful Warrior Massage. From the moment I entered the spa I felt that I was a valued guest. The receptionist was lovely and attentive. My masseuse gave me a memorable massage that was AMAZING from start to finish. She was attentive and worked hard to get all of the tension out of my body. I consider myself to be a bit of a massage snob and this massage exceeded my expectations from every aspect. Will definitely visit again when I'm back in town and looking for an excellent pampering experience. read more

My wife and I booked couples facials here for Mother's Day as we were staying in the Fairmont hotel over the weekend. The arm and shoulder massage portion of the facial was nice, but the facial routine itself seemed to only consist of lotion, hot towel, lotion, hot towel, lotion, hot towel. Where's the exfoliation!? Though the real kicker was that our 60 minute 1:45 appointment didn't start until 2:05, and by the time it was finished we were out of the room at 2:45. Somehow our 60 min facial got cut to only 40 minutes. When the ladies said "ok we're all done", I responded quickly with, "wow has it been an hour already, what time is it?" Lol, there was no response back, the ladies just got up and walked out of the room. I mentioned it to the person at the desk while we were paying, and they offered us 10% off (should have been 33%), but at that point when you've booked a short time away from your kids to relax, its not really about saving $20, you just want to get the full 60 minutes you booked, and a full facial routine as well. First time trying this place because the picture on google looked beautiful. However it's shared by the hotel so the pools are very busy when we went there were families and many kids around 8:00pm so we didn't enjoy the pool at all as it many kids were screaming splashing and we just wanted to relax. The steam room is small but coed which is hard to find as Im sure people would like to steam with their spouses so this was nice. Their tea room is small but with a good choice of snacks like fresh fruit and biscuits and almonds unlike oasis spa which only gives you fruit. However, the massage was great but will still be searching for the best day spa this was definitely not it. read more

*BEWARE if you need to claim your massages through insurance here* What a difference several months makes. Use the same massage therapist for 3 years and then all of a sudden the masseuse either does not have her required 2200 massage hours or she has not updated her license. Sunlife does NOT recognize certain staff members here at this spa as they said they were starting to become way more strict about checking the requirements each January. Which leaves me having had a $130 message with no insurance coverage and I am out of pocket.. Plus a nice tip. GRRR! We made darn sure over the phone before the massage as always that this particular person was recognized by Sunlife but after-the-fact we were told it was not the case and now we are shafted that $130.If the Spa is hiring or retaining people unrecognized by the insurance companies,we should be reimbursed by the spa! All they want to do is send a gift card to us for a fraction of the massage price and all will be ok again! Even the director of the spa told us there was nothing she could do. Very sad, we would come here all the time but R&R, your attitude of saying SOL to us and other customers going through this right now is not right. We had been loyal to you for 3 years and your people need to make sure they are up to par for medical coverage! read more

I decided to treat myself to a day at the spa and try somewhere new. I've been to and stayed at Palliser hotels before, so had somewhat good expectations. I'm an occasional spa user who likes to go to spas for the full relaxation experience and take advantage of all amenities. I decided to go with a facial which was on special for the month of March. Overall I had a nice experience and would go back again. Here's a summary of the experience.... Parking: free parking (up to 3 hrs) with a full service visit. Valet or self-park. I self-parked, and the walk to the spa takes about 5min (indoor). The change room: is small, not really a relaxing layout, but does the job. More that 3 people in there and it feels crowded. There are 3 small seating areas: to wait before and after your treatment. They are nice and simple. Yes, the whole layout is awkward and sort of feels like you are in the middle of a walkway, but there is nothing happening there, really no people traffic. The reason I chose this spa is the access to the hotel pool and spa. It's a nice extra. Yes, it is the hotel pool so there's are other guests there and can be children. Probably best to go during the day during the week if you want to avoid more people. The facial: was nice, nothing amazing, but nice. I would say overall good value given I had access to everything else at the spa. The best part of the facial was not getting the up-sell on the products. Bonus points for that!! I want the spa experience, that's what I pay for, I don't want to buy the products to take home! If I was staying at the hotel it would be a really nice spa experience, but having to use that tiny change room is the downside to this spa for sure. read more

I booked a day at the spa my services were from 12:30 PM until 3:30 PM. I showed up at 11:30 AM I could take vantage of the spa and sauna. I sat outside the room at 12:25 PM to receive my treatment at 12:30 PM. But they didn't show up until 12:50Pm. I would have never expected a full service spa to not have any food. All I got was apple slices and yogurt. I'm glad I brought my own protein bar. My facial was very nice... But my eyebrows she totally messed up.When I was finished with With my facial I was dehydrated and wanted some water, when I got the lounge there was no water to be found so I had to go get it myself. onto the pedicure... It was the worst pedicure I've ever had! 5 hours later I got a chip... and more than 24 hours later it completely smudged. And on too of that!!! They charged me $60 over and I had to call the spa to refund. It wasn't a horrible experience. But I certainly would've not paid $300 for it! read more

I visited RnR Wellness Spa for the first (and last) time today. I am a loyal client of Sante Spa, and decided to try RnR after being given a discount coupon (which I discovered after booking that the coupon could only be used on weekdays). The pedicure wasn't bad, but the atmosphere was less than relaxing. The spa is in the basement of the Fairmont Palliser, and I found the set-up to be quite congested. The reception area is small, and hard to get through between the main entrance and treatment rooms if others are checking in or out. The waiting room is also quite small and cramped - dark furniture, walls and lighting - it felt like a cave, and I could barely see the registration form. The treatment room for the manicures and pedicures is also very small. When I started my pedicure, there was a group of 3 girls already having treatments. It was very uncomfortable being in a small room and feeling like I was intruding on their conversation. Throughout my pedi, the aestheticians had to crawl over one another, as there is limited room to walk between the pedicure chairs and manicure tables. There is also a sink in the treatment room, so there was a lot of noise with the staff cleaning up. For a hotel the calibre of the Fairmont, I had higher expectations. This spa needs a MAJOR overhaul, and not a place I would recommend to friends or family. I'll be sticking to Sante Spa! read more

The staff is amazing and Mallory, my RMT, gave me the best massage ever! I can't say enough about her. I felt so relaxed yet my muscles also got what they needed with enough pressure. The steam room is great. The atmosphere, overall, is wonderful. I would absolutely recommend R and R to everyone - and I would especially recommend Mallory as your RMT. The whole staff is just wonderful and totally worth the drive. One thing I would say is that the valet was confusing (just because I had never used it before) and then I ended up having to pay for parking ($30 for TWO HOURS - yes, Calgary has expensive parking!) So make sure you use the valet even if you have to drive around the block a couple of times. The staff was awesome though and took $10 off of my services to make up for the mistake I made. I attended this spa earlier today because I have been to a another Fairmont Hotel Spa's in the past. This one although in the hotel is not run by the hotel, it's a separate business within the hotel. But not matter I was treated just a great as I had been at the other spa's and the location was clean with a lot of amenities. There is free valet parking for 3 hours and if you pay for a treatment you gain access to the steam room, hot tub and pool. It's a small spa located in the basement of the hotel but it was nice. i had a 90 minutes massage that was so heavy. My masseuse Kelly was punctual, extremely professional and friendly. She is a great masseuse! I got a head to toe massage and left there feeling like a million bucks! The only downside would be that the other Fairmont Spa's I had been to featured their spa products which I like and there was the Fairmont Tea's (which I love). This Spa had some trail mix, fruit, tea and fancy fruit water as well as the others but I was really hoping for the Fairmont Branded products as I really like them. I would definitely go back. I was able to put my massage through my benefits plan because I made sure that I was given a Register Massage Therapist (RMT) and the front desk were very accommodating with this request. The massages are not inexpensive but I feel I got my money's worth for sure. I also booked at the last minute and they got me in. Will definitely be back! read more

I read some of the previously posted reviews of RnR Wellness spa after already booking my spa & lunch package and almost got cold-feet. Instead of cancelling my appointment, I thought I'd go see for myself if the spa was really as disappointing as some other reviewers would lead one to believe. Good thing I didn't cancel my appointment. Turns out, RnR Wellness Spa is a great place to de-stress and relax. While true that the spa is located on the basement level of the hotel, it does not feel like it was absent-mindedly thrown into the middle of a hallway. The stairway from the main lobby opens onto the reception area and check-in desk. I was warmly greeted by Teresa upon my arrival. She gave me the lunch card I was to take upstairs to The Oak Room for my meal and said she would give me a tour of the spa and have me fill out my first-time guest paper work when I returned from lunch. After a lovely meal, true to her word, Teresa showed me the relaxation area and took me back to the women's locker room (accessible via a key card issued to each spa guest along with an assigned locker key). I wasn't sure what to expect and a bit apprehensive as one prior reviewer commented that it was "exactly like the change room at a city pool or high school locker room." I needn't have worried. That reviewer must have attended the most luxurious high-end high school that's never existed.I would describe the lockers in the changing room as being laminate-coated wooden ones which each contain a big, soft brown robe and plastic sandals. The countertops are all marble and host all your basic beauty products (spray deodorant, lotion, hairspray, cotton swabs, razors, shaving cream, hairdryers). The showers have your basic shampoo/conditioner/body wash. As a spa guest, you have access to the hotel pool and hot tub along with the steam room and fitness center.Maybe I lucked out, but there weren't any rowdy kids in the pool when I was there, just a few other hotel/spa guests. While not large, the gym has a few Precor treadmills and ellipticals with tvs along with free weights and a weight machine -- pretty much your standard hotel gym - good if you need a little post-lunch extra calorie-burn. The relaxation area is rather serene with calming spa music. Cucumber and orange infused waters and hot tea are available along with little granola/trail mix cups, cookies and biscotti. Gana, my massage therapist, did a great job of massaging away the tightness in my shoulder and neck muscles. While working away muscle tension isn't necessarily pain-free, the experience was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. Key takeaway -- the RNR Wellness Spa is a great escape for a little pampering and much needed "me" time. read more

Meh! The full body massage was pretty good. Then the same massage therapist did the scalp massage:in which she was clearly disinterested. Didn't use enough warm oil and kept pulling my hair. The pedicure was with a different woman, who did a great job. But then - didn't want to put on my boots/pants because it would mess the pedi. Asked if I could wear robe up to my hotel room. Receptionist said flat no... I'll shorten the story to say it took forever to problem solve, get a proper Fairmont robe I could wear... And by the time I got to the room I had utterly lost my zen, was fuming, and was regretting every dollar of the tip I'd already paid. Grrrr!! Suggest they improve customer service! read more

Swore I wouldn't go back to RnR two years ago because of the poor customer service. Heard there had been changes made so I fell for one of their "specials" and booked in. Now I'm again swearing I'll never go back for the same reason. Massage therapists are fine but management of this place is awful. Without writing a novel, every time I've been my appointment gets messed up somehow which always results in a higher bill at the end. Be aware that monthly specials are only valid if you attend during that month. If you book two days into another month, the special is over and you're now paying full price. Employees never mention this while booking strangely enough. This time my bill was over $300 for two services and they haggled with me over another $20. Tl;dr Bad, bad customer service. read more

My wife ( 30 ) and I ( 38 ) live in a luxury hotel residence next door to the Fairmont with a fairly exclusive and top rated spa a few floors down from our apartment ( and also receive a residents discount ) and we still choose to go to R & R Wellness - this is probably the highest compliment I can pay but we'll share some more honest feedback below. Now first, we've read the previous reviews, and some of the criticisms are justified. It is rather small, does not have all the amenities that some other spa's have and it does share a pool/steam/hottub with the Fairmont - and therefore Fairmont guests - which means that when you want to relax in the hot tub before your treatment, there is a risk of some family acting oblivious to the fact there are others around and letting their 3 kids run rampant. This is not the fault of the Spa and only once ( out of at least 25 visits ) has it bothered me and I know for a fact, the staff are just as annoyed by it as the spa guests. That said, I'll start with me. I travel 3 weeks a month, work on computers, and when I look for a massage, I want someone who knows what what muscle they are working, why and how exactly - and for how long - to work it out. I've had hundreds of massages that are indeed relaxing, but they mostly just do a "circuit" and I don't feel like I've had "therapy". And R&R wellness has somehow landed a therapist named Clay ( and they better not lose him, or I'm going wherever he ends up ). I go once a week, tell him what hurts and let him go to work. The rest is great too though, the girls at the front are awesome, and I also get waxed/manicured/pedicured before my trips to Mexico ( a requirement from my wife ) so I would go back for the rest of it, but if you are anything like me, trust me and ask for Clay. Now my wife is more of a Spa connoisseur and I convinced her once to come with me and give it a try because I didn't want to pick her up at another place because it was inconvenient. This will sound like an embellishment, but when we got home, she phoned the spa back and told the front desk that she just had to say something because her nail's were perfect and the best she's had in Calgary - so there you have it. I hope this helped you as I don't read/write reviews often, but when I think it will help others, and/or recognize the people that inspire it in the first place, I'll make the effort. The place is great, the people are skilled and Clay puts the rest of Calgary massage therapy to shame! read more

Small rooms, no background music playing (in the massage room) very uncomfortable when you can hear the masseuse breathing and dry mouth sounds (gross) He had the oil on the other side of the room for whatever reason, so every few minutes had to walk across the room to get more oil. Massage was awful! Grabbed at my skin and just seemed like he had no idea. I've had better at the massage college from students. Absolutely not worth $130. Receptionist had a bit of an attitude, nothing major but I expected so much better service for the Palliser. So many better Day Spas in Calgary for a lot less $$ read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my massage at RNR Spa located in the Fairmont Hotel. The receptionist was a delight and she walked me through everything!!!! The change rooms were beautiful and fully stocked with whatever you needed. Big brown lovely robes and sandals were provided. The guest waiting area was fabulous!!!! They had different types of water, tea's and snacks, nice music was playing and there was a gas fireplace. Guests had access to a pool and hot tub and they have valet parking. My massage therapist Anne was Awesome I was so relaxed and felt like a dream after. I highly recommend this establishment it is worthy!!!!!! read more

I had a last minute stay scheduled at the Fairmount Palliser on Friday Feb 13th. I decided to try out the RNR Spa located in the Hotel, and called to schedule a massage and facial. Unfortunately they were only able to fit me in for a 30 min express massage service because of the holiday weekend being so busy. Considering the mixed reviews I thought this would be a good test of the spa and went through with the booking. No details were given to me on the phone as to any specific limitations of the express service. Given my massage was at 2:45 I checked out of my hotel at noon and went shopping for a short while to wait for my spa time. I returned to the spa at 2pm to check in and sit in the steam room before my service. I asked the ladies at the front desk of the spa if I could be let into the steam room as I had stayed at the hotel but wasn't sure if my hotel key would still be active? Immediately the answer was No and they had nothing to do with the hotel. They didn't bother to ask questions or say sure since you stayed here we can let you sneak in. So I walked upstairs to the hotel front desk and asked for my key to be re-activated, they obliged with no issue. I returned to the spa and sat to complete my check-in paperwork and the front desk lady came over and said sorry but we just can't give you a key because we only have enough for our customers. I responded saying I had already taken care of it with the hotel. I finished my paperwork and took it to the front desk and again the same lady started to tell me how they couldn't do anything because they only had so many keys. I responded by saying they could have been courteous and just walked me to the door and let me in, I didn't need a key of my own. That being said I asked if we could finish the check-in so I could go enjoy a steam. She walked me into the spa waiting area and said this is where my therapist would meet me for my massage and went to walk away. I stopped her and asked where my robe, towel and sandals were. She proceeded to tell me that "you are only having an express service, we don't provide any change room facilities or spa robes for you unless you have a more expensive treatment." Her attitude was so demeaning, I immediately stopped everything right there. Regardless of what services I was having I would expect at a minimum a warm and friendly staff to check me in and get me comfortable and ready to enjoy my experience with them, this was so far from the case here. I said I would not be continuing with the service as there was no chance of having an enjoyable time after her rude treatment. I also told her that maybe they should inform people of these details when they book their services so one could be more prepared. She said they didn't think it was that important to tell everyone as all I had to do was change in the treatment room. Just to be completely clear here, this means that before and after your treatment you are not given access to any kind of change room, it's just in and out no frills. After making sure I would not be charged for my service I decided to go into the steam room for some relaxation anyways even though I was not going through with my massage. As I was about to walk into the steam room one of the Spa therapists, whispered to me that the lady I was dealing with was named Kelly and was the manager. They also mentioned that she always had that type of attitude, so I shouldn't feel bad for standing up to her. During my time in the steam room, not one other person came in from the spa so the excuse of not having enough keys didn't seem valid. Long story short, they can choose any process they want and provide amenities based on services as they see fit. However if they had informed me of this when I booked my appointment I would have been able to plan for my visit better. Even had they given this information on the phone they should still be cordial should any misunderstanding arise. As far as the facilities go, the waiting room consists of a tiny room off of the hotel pool area with a few chairs and some refreshments. Since I did not go through with my massage I cannot comment on the treatment rooms. The changing facilities were nothing special, just a plain locker room nothing spa-like. The steam room was sterile white tile and very brightly lit, not very relaxing at all. As you could guess I will not be returning to this spa again. read more

Seeing that it is attached to The Palliser you would think it would have more class. It's like a day spa that is training staff and has no personality . Checking in was long as I waited in a line and had many staff walk by me while I was waiting. Facial was pointless. I let the facial it's know my concerns but they were not addressed. It was the first facial I could say my skin was the same as when I went in. Totally a waste of time. I also stayed for a pedicure. Not bad but heels were still pretty rough. Color was done right but again what's the point if feet were the same as when I came in!? Lastly when I was getting dressed a man came in the change room and used the toilet. I let the girl know at the front desk and she barley even grunted at the issue!!!! Can you imagine being half naked and a guy come in and they don't care?? This is the way all staff behave...just a job not a destination or experience. Next time I'm walking down the street..not worth my time or money. read more

I took my best friend for a massage on her birthday. I think it would have been more special if they had a birthday pampering package or at least a card. The massages were good. The change room is small and congested. It needs some renovations. There should be a dry sauna room too in addition to the pool, hot tub and steam room . Some clients cannot go into the steam room which I might add was not working. Overall it was a good relaxing experience. The staff was friendly. It took a long time to get my car from the free valet parking and we were rushed to get changed and go out for dinner. It is an real asset to have free valet parking as it is a problem to find parking downtown. The facilities were clean and restful though very small. read more

Without a doubt the worst spa I've ever been to. You ask for a deep tissue and they massage your back the way you would stroke a cat. The facial was something you would expect from an inexperienced student, even my 2-year old daughter would have done a better job, and it would probably have been more effective and pleasing. I felt more stressed out and disappointed when I left the spa than I did when I got there, and considering the prices they have, you would expect some kind of standard of service. Not only is the staff rude, but they don't even give you value for your money. The 90-minute treatment only lasted 70 minutes. I usually time it when I go to spas and massages so I know if they cheat with the time. My partner was even more disappointed than me, and we won't be going back. It's such a shame cause you expect a great service with the nice facilities, but you get nothing of that kind. It was our anniversary and we wanted to make it memorable and relaxing, but it was the opposite, to say the least. We left extremely despondent. read more
