Recently, two of my friends found out that I wanted to learn, so we all went out on a Sunday evening. Sundays, Skateworld closes at 8:30. We arrived at 6:30 which gave us plenty of time. Open skate and skate rental costs $25 per person. It felt a bit steep to me, but I realize that they don't make money on much else so it's really not bad. They offer lockers at a price. There is free filtered water. It was a bit odd when my friends brought me a gift bag with knee pads, that they said no gift bags of any kind were allowed. It seemed odd as I thought children had roller skating birthday parties at places like this. At least they let us take out the knee pads and carry in the empty bag. Anyway, the space wasn't too crowded on Sunday, so it was easy to practice. I also rented one of those little wheeled walkers so I didn't fall all over the place. I was a bit bummed to learn that they didn't offer lessons, outside of their monthly "academy". I would have loved to drop in for a single session. All in all, it was a pretty good time. I would return to skate again.

I reported it immediately to Gena Trepte, who was and is the manager of Skateworld and was on site the entire night. Owner Brett Stang did not permanently ban that person. The only action described to me was that we were told not to interact. I spoke with Gena Trepte (manager) twice that night, including a second conversation of about 10 minutes while the same person stood behind her mocking the situation. There is absolutely no security guard or security representative at Skateworld at any session, including adult skate nights Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Fountain Valley, Holiday Skate Center, and Cal Skate GT all have security inside and outside. A San Diego Police incident was created (26029566). I stopped going. Skateworld is NOT in the safe location and all patrons should be very cautious about attending.

I understand that working with large groups of kids can be frustrating, but their attitude was noticeable. At one point, I even stepped in to help distribute skates because the situation felt a bit overwhelming due to their frustration. Overall, the experience was okay, but improved customer service would make a big difference.

They have their own parking lot so should be easy to locat and park. The staff at the front desk is awesome and knowledgeable. The private coaches are well trained and super knowledgeable. We work with miss Collene and I can't say enough good things about here. CHECK THE SCHEDULE BEFORE YOU GO! They only have free skate for a few hours a day so do make sure to check the schedule before you go. This location also runs camps and other child friendly activities. So definitely something to look into. The facilities are always clean and well taken care of. Their are many bathrooms and even a warm room. Basically, ice Town is where its at! They have daily open skating sessions, as well as skating lessons and Ice hockey practices and games. General Admission with skate rentals is $30 per skater, but an annual pass for open skating (with skate rentals) can be had for $349. UTC Ice skaters can receive parking validation for a total of four hours of free parking. I skated on some the best ice rinks in the New Jersey and New York when I was younger, as well as on ponds and lakes in the winter. From what I have observed, UTC Ice is a very nice facility.
