Skating with the $10 assist
Teressa W.

A year round ice skating rink where anyone - at any skill level - can skate? This is the place!!!! I can't tell you how many times my kids have asked me to go ice skating.... And I kept telling them that ice skating was a "holiday event." Finally got called on my **** and Google came to the rescue. We have now gone 3 weekends in a row! $20 to skate. $10 for the thing that they lean on to skate... $5 for skates. Be warned: it's cold! Wear pants, long sleeve, a hoodie..,, bring a beanie and gloves. Place is fricken awesome... and you get to watch the ZAMBONI (one of my favorite words) in action after the skate session.

Kids using the walker
Noel R.

Good prices, vending machine and coffee machine. Wish there was some hot food for the waiting adults, that would make it sooooo much better. Also, the walkers are only for little kids. They need some tall ones for teens and adults who have never ice skated before.

Glass is very scratched but viewable

Bad service! The manager and front are just down right unfriendly. I would suggest trying another center even if it's a drive.

Hi, Im active Duty in CPen, I want to propose to my command to play Broomball as a team building event. Do you guys offer that option with your rink?

Is this just for lessons or anyone can go ice skating for fun for the day?

Recently, two of my friends found out that I wanted to learn, so we all went out on a Sunday evening. Sundays, Skateworld closes at 8:30. We arrived at 6:30 which gave us plenty of time. Open skate and skate rental costs $25 per person. It felt a bit steep to me, but I realize that they don't make money on much else so it's really not bad. They offer lockers at a price. There is free filtered water. It was a bit odd when my friends brought me a gift bag with knee pads, that they said no gift bags of any kind were allowed. It seemed odd as I thought children had roller skating birthday parties at places like this. At least they let us take out the knee pads and carry in the empty bag. Anyway, the space wasn't too crowded on Sunday, so it was easy to practice. I also rented one of those little wheeled walkers so I didn't fall all over the place. I was a bit bummed to learn that they didn't offer lessons, outside of their monthly "academy". I would have loved to drop in for a single session. All in all, it was a pretty good time. I would return to skate again.

I reported it immediately to Gena Trepte, who was and is the manager of Skateworld and was on site the entire night. Owner Brett Stang did not permanently ban that person. The only action described to me was that we were told not to interact. I spoke with Gena Trepte (manager) twice that night, including a second conversation of about 10 minutes while the same person stood behind her mocking the situation. There is absolutely no security guard or security representative at Skateworld at any session, including adult skate nights Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Fountain Valley, Holiday Skate Center, and Cal Skate GT all have security inside and outside. A San Diego Police incident was created (26029566). I stopped going. Skateworld is NOT in the safe location and all patrons should be very cautious about attending.

I appreciated that the two rinks are open and included in admission, and that you're able to hit the quieter smaller rink to smooth out hiccups before hitting the bigger crowded rink. The concrete is a great floor to skate on - very smooth and slick. The staff are friendly and helpful. Everything is very affordable and I'd even say it's on the cheaper side, budget wise. The viberant colors and fun retro disco theme of the entire place set a great scene for some old school skating. The sunset over the rink was worth the wait and even at night with all the fun lights - it was a great time had by all! I selected maybe recommend company because they were playing explicit music for it not being an adult skate night. There were actually two kids birthday parties going on. Also, somebody was vaping on the rink, which just seems inappropriate to me for where the person was smoking; on the floor with lots of children and everyone's exercising. It was disappointing to see staff members not asking the individual to step off the floor and away from people to do that sort of thing. Other than that, this place was great. Also, careful which location you go to; both have the same entrance fee ($18) but seaport is only good for 1 hr and federal blvd is good till closing. I recommend this rink overall tho - it was a unique experience and blast. If I lived in the area, I would consider a membership even.

They also usually host "Sunday Roll-Outs" every Sunday morning down at the Oceanside Strand, meeting up under the pier, near and/or at the amphitheater, from around 10am - 2pm. Then, at some point during that time, they all roller skate together down the entire south end of the Strand, which is seriously EPIC! That's also advertised on their Instagram page, so double check that before heading out. They always play great music and everyone is so welcoming even to the newest skaters. There weren't a lot of folks out there but as the day went on, the rink began to fill up. I imagine people preferred to skate when it gets darker but for the kids in our group who were under 8, daytime was perfect. My husband brought his own skates so we thought it would be quick to get him out there but the lines took almost 15-20 min to get through. There weren't long lines or anything but just took a long time for the one person working to get people through. At least they were nice. The cost was $14 for adults and $12 for children. There wasn't a different cost for skate rental vs. bringing your own so it's just a preference if you have your own. The rink is a pretty decent size for an outdoor rink and is very intimate. It's not huge so you won't see kids speed skating and making it dangerous for little ones. Don't expect the ice to be NHL quality but it's what you'll expect with an outdoor rink...in San Diego! ; ) We'll be back for sure in the future with our little peanut. We had a blast!
