I can't speak for other, be we would never recommend RJ Concrete. They broke up the existing front steps and landing. Then they formed and poured a larger entry including (2) wider sidewalk slabs, and a landing for a seating area where we will add railings and a gate so we can sit out front with our dog safely enclosed even when working in the front yard. They told us once they started that they needed to cut back some siding and j-channel and then we would need to find the material and a contractor to fix it. Also found out, after the fact, from another concrete contractor that they didn't need to remove any siding. They did not protect our sidewalk leading to the house from the city sidewalk. When they drove up the sidewalk with a piece of their equipment for pouring concrete, they cracked (2) slabs of the sidewalk. Their communication was terrible from Ruben the owner, and his crew. My last communication to Ruben in June resulted in my being ghosted. Potential customers beware. read more

Contacted RJ Concrete for swapping a portion of our driveway that was asphalt to concrete in Rolling Meadows. There price was great and they handled the permit. They were done in 2 days. The hardest part was waiting to drive on it. The job is exactly what we were looking for and we are very happy with the result. read more

Do not recommend working with RJ Concrete. I hired them for a stamped concrete patio project in the Spring of 2023. Concrete was not poured until early October. The stamped color on the concrete was very poorly done, over-washed in some areas, and clumped in others. After discussion with the owner, the finish and seal were power-washed off in early November. I was then told we'd need to wait for warmer weather to fix the color and seal the concrete. Ten months later and I was still waiting for the color to be fixed and the concrete sealed. Finally gave up and will have someone else correct the color and seal the concrete. read more

I would NOT recommend. Communication is terrible and leaves you hanging. Had signed contract in place but they were unable to come up with adequate insurance for county to secure permit for job. I kept asking for status and response was always "we're working on it" and then did not return calls. All I ask is if you can't do something just me know so I can move on. Another contractor was able to secure permit within 2 days and saved me money! If you want job done in timely manner I would run from this contractor. read more

The crews that came in for the demolition of the old and the installation of the new were very transparent and courteous. My project was replace the 2-car garage floor. RJ Concrete quoted 4-5 weeks to start my project but were able to accelerate the start of it by 3 weeks, fitting my project in their overall schedule. It took 3 days in total to complete, with one day set for inspection by the village. Not only RJ Concrete guys were fast. They worked with no breaks and, as far as I can tell, very professionally. Special kudos to Miguel (day one tasks - chopping/sawing/removal of old concrete floor and preparations for new concrete) and Jaime - sales and project management. Overall, my experience with RJ Concrete was 99% positive. The 1% that was not so positive was a minor issue that has been resolved promptly and to my full satisfaction, and is not even worth mentioning here. BTW, RJ Concrete did not take any deposit for this job, which I personally think they should have. read more

I had my driveway replaced and added some retaining walls. I have a drive that is sloped to the house so it requires a drain at the bottom. I requested a 3 foot drain but it wasn't able to be installed centered on the drive so RJ made it a 6 foot drain that was centered. They did not charge me any extra for the additional drain. They communicated what was going to happen and when. The new drive looks great!! read more

Definitely recommend this company! 1st job of replacing the front steps and landing turned out so beautiful that we had a 2nd larger job that included the driveway and side door steps and landing. The work is precise and done exceptionally well. Great customer service from the workers that did the job, to the office staff that you communicate with. Everyone was professional and knowledgeable. The pricing is really good for the work you need compared to others..... The only negative is permit delays but that is on counties, villages and towns. We randomly called Ruben on a Saturday morning to schedule a time for him to come by and give us an estimate on a patio. He came by within an hour and gave us a quote that was lower than the other 2 quotes we received. Ruben then acquired the city permit and started working immediately. After two days, we had a new patio! Ruben and his guys worked fast and did a great job. Went with RJ Concrete because they had the best price with mixed reviews. Estimator and Ruben were prompt showing up on the estimate. I had my entire concrete replaced-garage slab, driveway, apron, front and back sidewalk and front concrete porch. Lot of concrete and lot of money spent. I did request the fiberglass concrete additive to be added but I really don't know if it was. The workers were nice and hard working. I did suffer damage on my front picture window from chips and when they poured the front porch the second day they tried to blend it in with the driveway but it looks terrible. Different color on the concrete porch and when they trolled onto the driveway it looked worse. It rained after the final pour on second day and it got all spotted from the sealer being splattered. My complaint is I called Ruben 4 times and even sent in photos of a small hole in my apron maybe 2" deep 3/4" wide. Ruben told me 3 times he'd be out and never showed or called. I just went to Ace and spent $7 on some fast setting cement and patched it myself. Good luck if you pick them. I knew it was going to be "what it is it is" after it was done but 1 small request and no follow up! Skip paying for that extra lengthy warranty too. The basic 1 year is worthless. read more

Have been waiting months for RJ Concrete to make promised repair of sidewalk and joints which was installed in July 2013. Promised to repair the work by June 1st of 2014 and after missing that date I was promised numerous times to do it "next week". Ruben has stopped taking my calls and RJ Concrete has not responded to a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau. I used RJ Concrete for a large irregular shaped patio. He really seemed to know what he was doing. I had several other estimators visit my site. The patio had some specific requirements due to the grade of the area and needing to accommodate a swale. This was no problem for Ruben. His estimate was very fairly priced and I am very pleased with my new patio. It has only been about 2 months since it was put in. I will be sure to update this review if I have any problem, but I do not anticipate I will need to. read more

Ruben was very prompt when he came out to give us an estimate on our garage floor replacement, but was not available after that. I secured and paid for a building permit, and spoke to him the same day. Per our conversation, he was supposed to come out on 11/16/17 to remove the old garage floor, and pour the new cement on 11/17/17. He stated that he would contact the village on 11/15/17 to set up an inspection, as required, prior to pouring the new concrete floor. When I requested a written contract before the work started, he instructed me to send him my email address in order to send the contract to me. I texted my email information to him, but after a week had passed, I still had not received a contract . I texted a follow-up message to him the following week - no response. He never sent a contract, and he never came out to do the job. I was very disappointed with his lack of professionalism. I would not consider his company for future jobs, nor would I recommend him to others. read more

Unfortunately, I paid R J Concrete in full before job was finished. Although I think they did a nice job. They cemented over my water main at the end of my driveway. I have been trying to get him to come back and I kept getting next time I'm in town and so on. Now it has been a year and I am going to have to pay someone else to finish the job. God forbid something goes wrong and I need the water shut off. It is too bad because Ruben came across as a very nice guy but all I can say is BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE. I was in a home in Lombard where RJ Concrete (Ruben Valdez) was laying a new driveway last spring. While in the home a concrete buggy of his hit my car. Ruben did the correct thing as finding out who the owner of the car was. And, he apologized and stated he or his insurance would pay for the damages. Beyond that initial contact on the day of damaging my car he would not return my phone calls. At that point I was forced to call the police and get them involved. They were able to help me get his insurance companies name. His insurance company, Nationwide, has been trying to reach him and his wife for months and they would not return their call. Today I received a letter stating that since he was uncooperative in complying with them his insurance company cancelled his policy with them. As of 3/22/2016 there is no coverage for my loss. Monday morning I will be contacting the police again. Beware. read more
