So since i moved to Chicago, i make stopping here a priority when i travel back, well as they say, all good things must come to an end. I went to Rizzo's for a pre-Birthday celebration with my family! The food was delicious & the waitress was wonderful!

We brought our mother and father here for Mother's Day and their 35th Anniversary. We have been coming to Rizzo's our whole life but were very disappointed this time. We ordered Chicken Parm and Veal Parm. When they brought it, it no longer includes a side of pasta. Just the meat on the plate. I have never been to an Italian restaurant that your sides are charged separately. We had already ordered soup and salads that were all separate. I don't know if this is a change since Covid, but if you come here ask what comes with your entre. read more

Our visit to RIZZO's could not have been more perfect! Our waiter, Marcus, was exceptional! Our food was exquisite from the ante pasta through each of the dishes to follow. Linguini with clam sauce, chicken captavi, chicken Parmesan, and sirloin. All pasta was prepared perfectly, and each sauce -- full bodied and rich. We'll be returning very soon. I can't find a bad thing to say. Dom and his staff are wonderful. Rizzo's is a clean, friendly, responsible and well run Italian restaurant. There's no appetizer or entree that isn't perfectly thought out to assure you are satisfied with taste, texture value and portion size. There are no frozen chicken patties or canned alfredo sauce served here. I'm well familiar with the owner, staff and menu and have never have never had a complaint. The highest priority for the staff is your satisfaction. I highly recommend Rizzos for the best of home cooking and a relaxing dinner out. Don't be surprised if Dom personally checks to make sure you are satisfied with your meal. My favorite is breaded chicken parm with a side of alfredo noodles Gee, I made myself hungry for Rizzo's! Rizzo's is a place that I will pick time and time again! The service is fast and the wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections. You get a lot of food for the price and it's always delicious! The owner comes around table to table to check how your meal is which is a nice touch. They are an Italian restaurant that still use home made recipes which shows in the taste! We went for a family birthday and when the owner found out he came and personally wished them a happy birthday! What a great touch! I ordered the streak tips and was so excited to eat them I didn't get a picture! So good! read more

This has to be my favorite place for a steak dinner in town! I know they are known for Italian food, but honestly the steak is so good I've never tried anything else. We always order the petite filet 'Scotty B' style and it comes swimming in a delicious sauce. Add marinated sautéed mushrooms to compliment the steak, and you won't be disappointed. The meal also comes with delicious baked bread and a giant baked potato. The antipasto salad is awesome as well, and I just found out recently you can purchase the homemade salad dressing they use. If you are looking for a nice date night out, or even a nice family dinner, Rizzo's is definitely the place. Cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. Call ahead for reservations, they do tend to be very busy on the weekends. read more

Always the best. I eat here every time I am passing through. The Rigatoni is my favorite and the anti pasta is great. The wait staff is excellent and the owners always check on the customers to see if they are satisfied. Bar Tender is the best! Lots of parking and clean restrooms too! read more

In the small town of WINDBER sits this well established Italian restaurant that was recommended as the best restaurant in the area. A long hall way leads to the back dinning rooms,the service was quick and attentive on a Friday early evening. A couple of slices of regular white bread out of a bag were served with the somewhat greasy breaded and fried calamari for appetizer. I much prefer calamari to be whole and not only sliced rings. I had the spinach salad and it consisted of very few measley spinach leaves tomatoes, and mushrooms. I also ordered the hot bacon dressing for an additional .75 which was served in a large gravy server...way too much for this piddly salad and tasted surprisingly bland. Partner had the homemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta that he said was no better than Chef boyardee out of a can and came with only an anemic one 1/2 meatball to boot. My Chicken Parmigiana was perfectly fine and moist but both our diners came with a marinara sauce that was way too bitter and really needed a touch of sugar to lessen the acidic effects of the tomatoes. Homemade apple pie was uninspired and doughy. Sadly if this is the best Windber and Johnstown has to offer,it's better to go to a chain. read more

Do not eat here. High school cafeteria food taste better than the food here. The salad was just sad. 1 little slice of cucumber and 1 little slice of a tomato and the rest was just romaine lettuce. The eggplant parmigiana was disgusting. It even smelled bad. I could only handle 1 bite. My spouse had the chicken alfredo and was disappointed. Said it tasted like powder. Left with a full plate of food sitting on the table untouched because it was that bad. read more

The menu is incredible and suits me perfectly. I could easily order 95% of what's on the menu and know I'd be totally pleased. But, every time I sit down and think to myself "tonight is the night I try something new", I just can't stop myself from ordering the veal parmesan. It's a shame that I may never know the other many wonders of Rizzo's, but the veal parm is just too powerful to resist. And the dipping oil for the bread is a favorite of mine. So simple, but to me, it's what makes Rizzo's...Rizzo's. read more

Had my first experience with Rizzo's on a clinical rotation in Windber - strongly suggest the steak tips with the captiva sauce on the side! The eggplant parmesan is also delicious. For an appetizer, the antipasti salad is the best I've ever had. Great atmosphere. Good for a nice dinner out with friends or a date. read more

Rizzos serves good food but it's not great. Parking is across the street but dont worry it is not to far so you can handle it. It is all Italian food so do not expect to find thai food on the menu. They have an outstanding selection of sodas but go to eat and park if you want a cookie. read more

Quaint family owned Italian Restaurant. Italian Wedding soup was very good and is made on the premises. Great service and a family atmosphere. I also had eggplant Parmesan. It was pretty standard except for the sauce. The sauce was incredible! Is recommend it for casual & simple, but good Italian meals. read more

I havent been here for years because I moved out of the area but was surprised how great it still is. I ordered steamed clams as an appetizer which came in a tasty clam broth. Tasted every bit as good as the steamers I used to enjoy when I lived in Boston. Next was the prime rib. What can I say? Beyond expectation. Very tasty, medium rare with the au jus. We've been dining at Rizzo's for many years and have, up to our most recent visit, had a wonderful experience. This time however we were extremely disappointed with the level of service. We were seated promptly but left to sit in the corner without even so much as water. When the server finally arrived, she took the drink order of our group. Beers came out quickly but the cocktails lingered and when finally delivered were watered down by the melted ice. The food order suffered a similar problem, with half of the dishes coming out room temperature to cold. Granted we were a larger group (about 12), which can sometimes be tricky. But it was early evening (about 5:30) and the place was not that crowded. And, again, this has never seemed to be a problem in our past visits with big groups. I can't speculate what might have changed - new server, just an off night - who knows? Either way, we're going to take a break from Rizzo's for awhile and see if they can right the ship. It was a banquet, but had heard some good things but the service slow and spotty, drink orders mixed up, no bread with the antipasto salad, etc. The hot entrees were only warm- more of the service issues? Some folks who had been here before noted that many of the regular staff were not working tonight...but I would not go back as the food was ok-but not great. This is by far the best restaurant in Windber. The food is fresh and homemade. The portions are comfortable and not at all oversized. The appetizer special was unique and still felt very Italian. The sauce was a little too sweet. The marina sauce is especially flavorful. The captiva sauce is milder than it sounds and an excellent compliment to any entree. The desserts are excellent. We enjoyed the cheesecake and ice cream "sweet potato ". A great meal and we left satisfied but not stuffed. read more

Best Italian food in the area. I've been coming since I was little for my birthday, always getting spaghetti and meatballs. 30+ years later I returned for dinner and it was as great as I remember. Everyone in the area raves about Rizzo's and this was my first visit to see what the fuss is all about. We were going with a group of 6 for a birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. While they claim they take reservations, the only times they were willing to reserve were either a very early dinner around 4 pm or a late one at almost 8 pm. I've been to much nicer and better places in the large cities and you can get reservations at anytime on a weekend if made in advance. But apparently not here during their rush. Our server was average and not anything special. In fact as he was about to take our order he was paged for another tables food being ready so he left and came back 5-10 minutes later to take our order. The bread was nothing special and looked and tasted like it came from Walmart's Bakery Department. We got fried cheese which was better than average. The marinara dipping sauce was good and above average. Other members of our party got pasta salad and a regular salad to share. However there were no salad plates and they had to use the little snack plates. The salads did look good. Now for the main course. We all either got steaks filets or seafood so this review is based on that and not the Italian food or the Italian food prices. The steak we got was extremely good and was done in this special sauce they call Scotty B's. However the steak was not of the quality and taste of say a Ruth's Chris steak of the same cut but he price was. For this area this is one of the best steak I have had. Again for this area the steak was way over priced. In fact, all that came with the steak was a choice of one side. For this price in this area the steak should have came with a salad, a vegetable, and a potato or choice of pasta. I chose the rigatoni as my side. It would have been tasty had they used the dipping sauce that was provided with the cheese sticks. They didn't. It was rather bland and one step above Ragu from a jar. If this is their regular sauce then I really don't see what all the hype over Rizzo's is about. We had 2 beers & 2 vodka drinks. The bill came to almost $80 for 2 people. This is way too much money for a old coal mining town. I would go back again to try the different Italian dishes and to see what the value is there. Here is the problem with this area and the people there. Most never leave the area to try dining elsewhere so this gives Rizzo's a captive audience. If they were in a large city area with many Italian places to chose from they would be average or a hair above that. read more

I've heard about this iconic restaurant for years, and finally had my first dining experience last night. Amazing!! Located in a quaint former coal mining town is this GEM! It was a very refreshing change from your typical chain Italian restaurant. The warm family touch made me feel immediately welcome and at home. My husband and I shared the ABRUZZI Stack appetizer that was on special, as well as their antipasto salad and escargot. Mouth watering!! Hands down the most savory lineup of apps I've had in a long time! We are from the Pittsburgh area and I would put it against any mainstay restaurants in the city. For dinner, my husband had the marinated steak tips that our lovely server recommended. I went with chicken captiva, although I was tempted by the next table's shrimp scampi. Again, top notch!!! Our first two courses were so outstanding we had to squeeze in their homemade carrot cake and creme brûlée for dessert. Needless to say, I wish we had leftovers today! It was well worth our 2 hour drive and we are already planning on doing it again soon. Everything from the authentic atmosphere, to the excellent service, to the quality of food and pricing....they easily deserve 5 stars. Salute to the Rizzo family and staff. read more
