Quaint restaurant overlooking the Wisconsin River. Perfect place to dine before or after your Frank Lloyd Wright tour. If I lived in the area I would dine here at least once a month.

    Beautiful views

We had lunch here before a noon Taliesen house tour. You order at the front counter, and food arrives quickly to your table. I tried the Uplands Cheese Puff salad and my dining partner had a Grilled Cheese with fries. The aioli served with fries alternates with what's fresh. Both dishes exceeded our expectations and the prices were very fair. Fresh cookies rounded out our meal (flavors vary). The soft classical music playing in the restaurant really makes the meal relaxing. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Definitely give this restaurant a try!

Locally grown food, seasonal menu. The food was amazing! Order at the counter and food is brought to your table quickly. Beautiful view of the Wisconsin river.

Grilled cheese with cherry & onion aioli. Delicious!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Riverview Terrace Cafe. We were headed to the House on the Rock and figured we would just end up getting a slice of pizza at the cafe, when I decided to check Yelp to see if anything good was nearby. This place was #1, and Yelp doesn't lie. It was about 5 minutes from the House on the Rock and view is phenomenal, a beautiful view of the Wisconsin river. But most importantly..... the food was EXCELLENT! I had a very light "cheese puff" salad. It was excellent with a very light lemon vinaigrette and some cute purple flowers. My mom had a grilled cheese that came with a onion cherry aIoli. The aioli was amazing and I am looking forward to trying to recreate it. The grilled cheese was also delicious and had burnt cheese on one side. To die for. Placing an order is very simple, you order at the counter when you're ready and the waitress will give you a number. She was very kind and offered a lot of good information about the food. Most everything on their menu is locally sourced and organic. :) So if you're looking for somewhere to eat in Spring Green, do yourself a favor and come here. You won't get food half this good anywhere else nearby.

I feel like this place would have to get good stars just based on the fact that there doesn't seem to be anyplace else to eat in the area, but the food was very good. Everything is grown locally and the food was more artisan that I would have expected for what is essentially a gift shop restaurant. I had initially thought about heading home from our trip and eating elsewhere, but I am very glad we stayed and I think you should too. :-)

I went to the restaurant at the Taliesin and had a fabulous grilled cheese sandwich with french fries. The grilled cheese sandwich actually had cheese melted on the outside of the bread in addition to the inside. The outside crust was fabulous! Would definitely ordered that again. My wife had the Uplands cheese puff salad which she enjoyed thoroughly. It was a very clean and elegant restaurant looking over the Wisconsin River. Would have never expected such a wonderful lunch here. They're starting a culinary school which they started last year and are trying again this year. They plan to roll it out fully next year. If you eat here you will not be disappointed.

You can eat lunch in a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. That alone is enough for 5 stars in my book. But on top of that, you get a lovely view of the Wisconsin River. And the food is good too. We had a salad with vegetables grown on the grounds, plus a very tasty pulled pork sandwich.

Grilled cheese and cup of soup - yummy and comforting on a rainy dreary day

We stopped in on a dreary, rainy day and decided we didn't have enough time to do one of the Taliesin tours but couldn't resist having lunch in the Frank Lloyd Wright designed cafe, which is open 10-4. It is operated by the eight members of the Food Artisan Program hosted by Taliesin Presevation. Small but innovative menu featuring local ingredients. You order at the counter, find a table (by the window if you can) and your food is brought to you. I had the soup of the day (coconut curry squash) and grilled cheese (local provolone cheese and seared apples on crusty multigrain bread with a simple side salad). The sandwich was almost too buttery rich for my taste but certainly not by Wisconsin standards but it was good! Soup was smooth and delicious. We found we wanted to linger to enjoy the ambiance but had to move on down the road. I recommend you get there before the tours end otherwise you will have a long line (and not get a window table).

Would definitely recommend. It's a nice place to unwind, cool off, and relax after one of the FLW tours. Plus, the food was well prepared and in medium-high price range. Not to mention an exquisite view of the Wisconsin River.

The house salad. Greens organically grown on Taiesin property.

It had a good amount of veggies, and overall felt healthy. I also went for a seasonal peach pecan pancake. That was good one as well. Hot cocoa was a nice drink.

What an awful, stupid experience…read more This all started because their lattes DO NOT COME WITH ESPRESSO. The staff acted like I was an idiot for asking if the iced lavender latte I ordered had espresso. I'm 40 and have never ordered an "iced latte" from a cafe just to be served cold milk, but that's exactly what I got. I asked if I could get it remade with coffee, and they again brought out just iced milk with syrup. This time I asked for just a couple shots of espresso on the side so I could add it to the drink. They eventually at the end of the meal brought out a mug full of lukewarm espresso - probably 4-6 shots! I added a splash to my drink, mixed, and it was (finally) really tasty! But then I got my bill and they had tacked an extra $5 ($2.95 for the espresso + another $2.00 for ???) On top of already paying $4.95 for just cold flavored milk, I guess? When I tried to explain what happened, the cashier, I assume Karin, got combative and that's when I learned this entire weird experience was because they simply don't include espresso in their lattes! At any point somebody could've cleared this up, the cashier knew exactly what the issue was as soon as I asked about the charges, and was ready to argue! I was told "that's just how they named it" and I should've "read the description". So I would've known they're the only place I've ever encountered that considers just flavored iced milk at $4.95 a "latte". She said "chai & matcha lattes don't have espresso" therefore it shouldn't be assumed a "latte" comes with espresso. Chai & matcha have their own caffeine! It's the caffeine that makes a latte, not milk. Why in the hell am I literally arguing the definition of a latte with this lady??? I was really chill up until this point. I was more incredulous than anything. Served just iced milk twice? Takes almost the whole meal to just get gross overload of espresso? Whatever. But to then be charged an extra $5 (making this drink almost $10!) and argued with by staff? That was a bridge too far. Went from just a weird, bad time to a positively nasty time. Top 3 worst dining experiences. Good job, Spring Green General Store, these out-of-towners definitely won't be back, which seemed to be the point. Hope the extra $5 you bullied out of us was worth it!

While we didn't try the BBQ we had such flavors like no other in the double smash burger and the smoked salmon (baked). The collard greens, grits, (best we have ever had!!) and french fries were all perfectly cooked, food was hot and our server, Rusty, was a pure delight! He was very knowledgeable and he had fantastic recommendations from the salmon to the delightful key lime pie we had for dessert! He was so attentive, but never intrusive. We saw on the sandwich board outside on the sidewalk, that the meats are wood smoked, and so we are already looking forward to trying those next time! We also noted they serve a weekend brunch on Saturday's and Sunday's until 2 pm... so that's also in our minds to check out and spread the word! Dairy free and gluten free items marked on their menu also.... very very highly recommended, they updated their menu about a year ago we were told... it's worth the drive!

There was even a children's section where kids could play around and be supervised by a parent with a drink or something. Great classic kids books in there too -- love the Busy World of Richard Scarry. I would have given this a 5star review because my food was overall 5star, but there were just too many issues in timing and service and such not to make note of. This was an event where all tables were sat at the same time. Tables were getting their first appetizer before we even got our drinks, and our drinks didn't come out together at all. One person in our party had Celiac but they forgot to bring out a gluten free appetizer, so the rest of us finished our appetizer before she even got hers. Probably not what staff was used to with everything at the same time, I get it, it just wasn't a very good start. It was also freezing to start inside and I kept my jacket on through the first course. Then it warmed up. Old building with radiators, also totally get that, but if the seating was staggered and that front door kept opening, it would have been miserable. After our drinks and appetizers, timing worked out on the rest of the meals. Everything was wonderful and the menu was so thoughtfully laid out. The only other snafu was our secondi course of pappardelle with wild mushrooms had no mushrooms in it, like zero. The gluten free dish had a ton of them and looked really good. It wasn't worth bringing up given the timing issues, and even without the mushrooms the pasta was absolutely delicious. Scallops were cooked to perfection, though if the risotto had saffron in it I couldn't tell at all. Still, I didn't leave one single scrap on ANY of my plates. Despite any issues, the staff was so kind throughout and they were all obviously rushing around trying to get everyone everything they needed. Great food, lovely staff, amazing ambiance -- yes, I'll definitely try to come back here if I'm ever out this way.
