I love a good bookstore. And, the only thing better than a good bookstore is a good bookstore that has a good coffee shop. And, this has both. While the bookshop isn't huge, they have a good collection. We did manage to find a few to buy before leaving. And, their prices are reasonable. We really enjoyed the coffee shop. The coffee was good (I had an Americano). They also have a nice selection of pastries, and they have some that are both gluten and dairy free. That was a real plus. If we lived in the area, which we don't (we went up to see Taliesin), I would frequent Arcadia Books. read more

Arcadia Books is a phenomenal study spot. It's has a regular buzz of coffee-seekers and book-buyers that create a pleasant background chatter. Combined with its bright windows, low music, cozy wood aesthetic, and shelves of curated books; I could easily pass hours here. The coffee is pretty good too, and they have some bakery items and snacks if you get hungry. They have all the basics: lattes, chia, cocoa, etc. If anything, I think they could add a few specialty flavors or drink ideas to their list. Nevertheless, Arcadia is an outstanding coffeeshop, and I can't wait to come back again soon! read more

Adorable little bookstore for a small town. Broad selection of stuff, for adults and kids. Wifi is free and worked pretty well. A decent selection of food and a coffee counter so you can find a seat and do some reading (or work). The staff was friendly as well. I'm sure we will stop in again when we come through Spring Green. This is a charmer of a bookstore. It won't be the largest bookstore you'll ever visit, but it might be one of the most heart-warming. They do a great job of stocking a well-curated selection of hot-off-the-presses hardcover and paperback, and favorites that have been in print for longer. The food in the safe is amazing. Again, not a huge selection, but what's there made me wish that I lived in or at least near Spring Green so I could eat there every day. Healthy stuff too! read more

The cafe at Arcadia Books became my hangout when I visited Spring Green. What makes it so great is the lady who runs it, and her staff, are all dedicated to making the yummiest food and serving it up with love and care. The coffee was lovely, the baked goods were all delicious...and there is a small but tasty and healthy selection of sandwiches and other prepared foods to grab and go, or sit and eat. The menu changes often depending on the season and what's freshly available...the chili entree and the Korean japchae noodles I had were both delicious! Make sure you have their boba drinks...holy heck, they are fun and tasty. Unlike tapioca bubbles in bubble tea, these boba are pearls filled with liquid which burst in the mouth when chewed...absolutely a must-try! We love to visit Arcadia Books whenever we're in town. Not only do they have an incredible selection of books, ranging from indie to NYT best sellers, they also have an incredible kitchen menu. We love their salad and sandwiches, especially since they have vegetarian offerings. My husband said their egg sandwich had the best cheddar biscuit he's ever had. I was over the moon about the blueberry doughnuts they had when we were in. They also have a grab and go cooler and a small range of coffee/tea options, including Kickapoo coffee. They have a rewards program you can sign up for - $10 for every $100 of books you buy, which is pretty easy to accomplish. Lastly, I have to say how refreshing and delightful it was to see how busy it gets on a Saturday morning. It seems many people in town stop here for a bite while they read the paper or catch up with friends. I highly recommend stopping in! read more

This bright, friendly bookstore is a gem. There is just enough inventory here to likely allow you to find a good book for yourself or a gift for someone else, but not so much that you feel as though you missed out on seeing everything. Add to that a cafe with several enticing menu options and plates of homemade sweets and you can pretty much hang out here all day. Perfection is in the comfy couch near the kids section which my kids promptly curled into with their picks. You'll feel perfectly at home as you look around and see a vase of wildflowers by the sink, a sign for a poetry reading hanging on the wall, or the bottle opener on the counter to open your bottle of coke. Arcadia is a perfect example of what bookstores can be and why they should never go out of business; it's as much an experience as it is a place to go buy the latest bestseller. read more

This rating of 4 stars is for the books store portion only they have an excellent selection, beat sellers, new release and obscure literary treasures. Many titles are reduced to $7.00 can be found under their tables. The cafe on the other hand is 2 stars at most, the cafe is a squandered opportunity for the town of Spring green. They got rid of their espresso machine and they serve Kickapoo coffee which is incredible but they brew it very, very weak. Very disappointing. read more

Definitely a place to stop while you're in Spring Green! I usually just go in for a coffee and to read, but have started to get lunch or dinner (available for there or to go). Always delicious and fresh. The place is a little confusing to figure out (you can pick out food from a cooler, then bring it up to the counter to pay. The drinks are in a different cooler that's further back. You usually bus your own dishes). If you aren't a local or on a first name basis with the employees, you may feel a little out of place. The staff is very friendly to everyone, though. This is a great place to schedule a meeting to catch up with an old friend. There's wifi and great windows, or outdoor space! read more

This place is a pitch perfect bookstore/cafe. There service is personal and friendly. The food is amazing. And it fits perfectly in this small town hub. The kitchen at Arcadia turns out some excellent and creative lunchables. In the cooler there are fresh sandwiches, salads, and dips. Jacki, the chef, is amazing! She has a real passion for food. After Taliesin and lunch at Freddy's, walk down the street to this adorable independent bookstore. It is not that huge, but it has a wonderful hand-crafted selection, some nice options for seating, and a little cafe that other Yelpers have noted is really good. The food is no longer done by Enos Farm and instead is done by a different, excellent chef and staff. The egg sandwich on cheddar biscuit is particularly wonderful. The price range on Yelp is wrong, it isn't that expensive--I had a DELICIOUS $10 lamb burger there last weekend for lunch. I've taken family their from out of town, and they have all had positive things to say about it. I also enjoy how meals are paired with healthy options like a side salad rather than fries, though chips and other delicious desserts are available. They sometimes advertise gluten free bread as a substitute for the buns, and there usually/always is something vegetarian if not vegan on the (small) menu. This bookstore, coffee shop and café is a gem, worth the drive from Madison when touring the magic of The Spring Green area. For me, this represents the new-age community center, replacing what taverns have historically provided for bringing people together. The lunch selections are both tasty and nutritious. And the century-old ambiance punctuated by the creaky wood floors and pedestal tables connect nicely with WiFi and the barista skills. Enjoy! read more

What a disappointment! Previous reviews make it sound like a great place to eat and browse, so we made plans to eat there before attending a play at a nearby outdoor theater. The bookstore is great, but the food was almost nonexistent. We got there around 6:00 p.m. and this is what we found to eat: 2 plastic-wrapped fish salad sandwiches, four mostly-greens salads, a few cups of yogurt, five cookies, and one kind of soup. The sandwiches, salads, and yogurt (plus a small variety of bottled drinks) were in the refrigerated case; the soup (pork posole) could be ordered. I had called ahead the day before to ask two questions: Is it crowded before the plays at APT? (Answer -- Not too bad) Was there plenty of food that time of day? (Answer -- Sure) When we went in, we saw a sign explaining that the cook/baker is on maternity leave through the end of the year, so there might not be as much food as usual. This was an understatement. We saw others come in, look at the offerings, and leave. We settled for a sandwich (for my husband) and a bowl of soup (for me). I don't eat much, but the bowl was so small, I figure a "cup" would have been served in a shot glass. (For the record, it was clearly homemade, and pretty good.) It seems to me that the person I talked with the day before could have told me about the absence of the cook, and warned me there would not be as much food. In fact, the sign said things would be especially lacking on Mondays and Tuesdays. I called on Monday to go there on Tuesday! And also, wouldn't most places hire someone else to keep up the cafe while the cook was on leave? Having read the raves about the food and bakery items, we might go back, but not until a full-time cook returns. read more

Why YES! This is a bookstore with a cafe... the food is delicious. Squash Tamales, avocado sandwich, quinoa salad, soups (veggie and non-veggie) and plenty of food for meat-eaters too. A hidden gem. We were visiting from out of town and we're looking for a place to eat. The menu was so original and diverse. From ban-mi sandwiches to Indian soup. The staff is friendly and helpful and always is in tune with events and happenings in Spring Green. We stop there every time we're in Spring Green and always enjoy our time at Arcadia. Pizza Night is a favorite! Order inside and sit outside in warmer months. Dogs welcome on the sidewalk--the staff will even bring out a fresh bowl of water for your furry friend. If you are not local, don't expect to feel welcome here. My husband and I visited Spring Green and unfortunately decided to explore Arcadia Books on our way to dinner. We were followed around the store by the owner--to the point of nearly feeling chased--for the full 5 to 10 minutes we spent in the store before we took the hint and left. I don't know what his problem was (the only reason I can figure is that my husband is Asian and stood out, but I don't want to assume racism); whatever issue it was that he instantly took with us, he made us feel as though he thought we were going to steal all his books. A clean and bright small town bookstore. Some used books, but mostly new. There are tables, chairs, wifi, a full espresso bar, and light food menu. The kitchen recently (fall 2016?) changed hands. I really enjoyed the gourmet grilled cheese (homemade delicious bread). It came with lightly dressed mixed greens that were perfect. I snagged a WiscoPop ginger ale and it was a $10 lunch when all was said and done. It was more satisfying than it sounded on paper. Felt worth the $10. They have a small bakery case with homemade cookies, muffins and sometimes other special things like scones and chocolate brioche. You order at the bookstore register and they'll call your name when ready, so it's not a full service place. A great place to grab lunch or coffee with a friend, or to dine alone with a good read. read more

Erm...So, I'm not a local person, in any sense. My many visits to Arcadia spread over the last few years (mostly while decompressing by checking out their stock to get a start on birthday/holiday gift lists and find better-than-the-usual-suspect-booklist recommendations) were characterized by very personal attention (whether I needed / deserved it*) that far surpassed anything one would get in a chain like B&N, or even otherwise fairly worthwhile places like Tatnuck or the Harvie^2 COOP in MA, Joseph-Beth in Kentuckiana, or that one place I can never remember the name of in Columbus, Ohio. I guess attention might feel a little weird, if not for what I will describe in what should otherwise be considered a side note: a little perspective on what happens during Taliesin / HotR / APT off-season for local small business owners in what is otherwise a very, very small dot on any map, regardless of scale (and if I'm wrong, do feel free to tell me, don't blame this spot for my opinions / perspective)...Either they close for the off (snowy) season. Or they try to do all they can to help / personalize service / attend to foot traffic year round to maximize sales in order to stay open through the off season on bones and minimal staff... If a customer is not a known lookey-lou (i.e. pre-read cuddle-bug), or a local who staff tag as a "'self-serve' buyer," one should anticipate that staff wants to help out, to turn a "Well, I'll just order this thing I've just figured out is awesome thanks to your staff / customers, social media, etc., and wait a week (or much more) to get it, all for what will inevitably amount to not all that much of a total cost difference (except in terms of whether the profits go to a small business, with local staff)" into a "well, holy balls, I can actually purchase this/ese book/s here to effectively support small business and the folks who've just helped me find this/ese gem/s, to benefit the same people who just helped me and the community (especially since margins on books are what they are, fairly obviously), rather than be yet another ass who spends hours reading the stock, leaving coffee-finger stains and random smells imbedded, then puts items back on the shelf like they can be sold full price and just overall being a douche of a human being." The food...oh, the food, so yummy. Whether it's mac and 4 cheese (made with at least one local cheese, though, please expect a little onion powder burn on this one), really tasty soups, pre- and well-made (meaning, they're arranged to avoid the sad soggy) sandwiches on lovely bread, their selections are more than worth a glance. And they (at least, generally) don't suffer from Midwestern blah. The cafe staff don't treat mayonnaise like it's a flavor, but do have significant, diverse global influences. Consider it take away or carry out, and for either, it's still worth it. *Hey, anyone with a stack of merchandise or someone struggling with what they're carrying or otherwise easy movement-compromised (injured, assistive devices, with littles, expected littles, etc.) deserves an offer of help, right? One of the best cafes I have ever experienced. The food is all made from quality ingredients, most (if not all) from local farms. Amazing community engagement and events- book signings, etc. The coffee is excellent, as well as a small but nice wine and beer selection. Pizza night is not to be missed. Seating can sometimes be tricky, especially if you need to plug in your devices, but it's still worth it no matter what. Best food and coffee in the town by a landslide. Other full sized restaurants around town don't even compare. read more

You can get a coffee and a baked good treat, wander the stacks, sift through the wicker baskets of books on sale, sit and people watch, even buy some great Wisconsin cheese. If you're anywhere nearby, go here. Buy a couple of books. Get a cool 2017 calendar. Savor a mocha. A great place for soup, sandwhich and a cup of coffee.

We stopped by for pizza night and it was a great experience. The pizza had a nicely crisped, billowing crust topped with local ingredients piled high - really high. It was definitely not the thin crust minimalism that I tend to make, but this allowed me to eat the top layer with a fork before diving in to the more manageable slices underneath. It was tasty, fun, and so cozy to be eating in a bookstore at little cafe tables. We each picked out a local beer and we perused cookbooks (we bought a Mark Bittman book) while we waited for the pizza to be ready. We'll stop back for other pizza nights, I'm sure, if we're passing near Spring Green. The soups and sandwiches looked good too! read more
